Obama, Gore talk climate change

President-elect Barack Obama and former Vice President Al Gore met to discuss environmental policy and job creation.
President-elect Barack Obama and former Vice President Al Gore met to discuss environmental policy and job creation.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - With former Vice President Al Gore at his side, President-elect Barack Obama said Tuesday it's time the issue of climate change is dealt with in a "serious way."

"The time for delay is over, the time for denial is over," the president-elect told reporters after the private meeting with Gore and Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

Obama did not specifically say what role Gore would play on the issue of Climate change, though he pledged to work with "a whole host of stakeholders on this issues, including Vice President Gore."

Shortly before the scheduled meeting, a spokeswoman for Al Gore said the former vice president, who reportedly sought the sit down with Obama, was not seeking an official position in the new administration.

But he meeting's announcement on Monday immediately unleashed speculation about what Gore's exact role in an Obama White House could be.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Obama said the purpose of the meeting was hear Gore's positions on a host of environmental issues and his ideas for how new environmental polices can spur job creation and jumpstart the economy.

"We have the opportunity now to create jobs all across this country, to re-power America, to redesign how we use energy, to think about how we are increasing efficiency, to make our economy stronger, make us more safe, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and make us competitive for decades to come, even as we are saving the planet," Obama said.

Heres a President who is looking out for the entire country's future and health. This should have been done years ago with the environmental impact global warming has had on our planet. Once Obama's environmental plans has been inacted, other countries around the world will follow his examples.

Two very intelligent men, talking seriously about an issue that effects every single American. I didn't know that was possible in government!

Yet another sign that this administration will be drastically, significantly, blessedly differently from the current one.

After reading Al Gores Book, I waited two years for a Home
built with Green Technology to be completed.
Since, living within this structure, I have been healthier,
my asthma and medical bills have reduced by 80%.
I have safed on energy, and ultimately everything about the home
    improved the environment.

I am one person, if I can make these changes and be a active participant in renewable resources, imagine what could happen if we all did this..

It took Al Gore to change my mind. Listen, and you will Learn,
I know Obama, has asked him to help guide us through the
    process.

one that we all need to take to heart.

For every scientist that says global warming is true there is one to say it isn't. Someone will make a lot of money off the hoax- can you say Al Gore?

hahaha... Gore as Enviroment Czar. We would all be on mopeds and have about a teaspoon of water in our toilets. I love Gore's message, but the drastic change he wants is unrealistic.

A President that actually recognizes that we're borrowing the planet from our children and NOT inheriting it from our parents. OMG, what a concept!

Bush still doesn't get it though... nor drill baby drill and cut education spending followers. (but boost military spending)

whether or not Gore is appointed doesn't really matter. the fact that his knowledge is being used and thrust forward is immense. i agree its time to push the denial and stupidity of the bush regime out the way and I remember one of the speakers from the convention saying we needed an admin that believes in science. bush and his whole team played with and believed what they wanted. time for recognition and im glad the two are going over how to deal with GW.

The only thing these people are worried about is pushing through legislation before Gore's hoax is realized! They gotta make the big $$$$ before the opportunity is taken away!!

FYI Big Al, most intelligent people know it's WEATHER and it fluctuates! (I'm not talking about scientists who are getting grants and cashing in on Al's flawed bogus science.)

CFLs are a great example of a replacement that's more harmful than the original. People should be thrilled to know they can have a mercury exposure problem should they break one. Has anyone given any thought to what the exposure levels are to landfill employees?

Yes, by all means more "Global Warming Reefer Madness". Al's next clue will be his first one. Is the planet getting warmer..yes...has been since the last Ice Age ~ 40,000 years. Does man have anything to do with it.....NO.

What's even more laughable are the hypocritcal environuts who are trying to "save" the planet by keeping it "the same" when keeping it "the same" goes completely against evolution.

Thank God common sense is returning to government.

We're facing the most monumental task in history, to save the planet itself.

With true leaders like Obama and Gore, we can do it, but only with the people of this country and this world stand up with them and actually participate in fixing the problems that climate change represents.

We can put 5 million people to work and save ourselves at the same time.

Pay close attention and ignore the corporate media spin. WE'VE GOT WORK TO DO!!!

Who cares? Gore the bore had is day in the sun already! Go ahead and take advice from him Obama, since he is the "expert" in the field, what with his nice huge mansion that consumes many more times the amount of energy as the average American home.

Oops sorry Al, looks like you were caught using the environment to get press and money. Now you are just Gore the hypocritical bore.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, keep him away from Washington!

Two enviromental wackos who are more interested in their special interest groups than the economy. How many Americans can afford $35,000.00 additional expense for solar panels on their homes? How many Americans have $10,000.00 to convert a vehicle to natural gas? How many Americans have the money to be able to afoord an electric car to commute with and a gas burning car so they can drive any distance from their home without have to spend several nights in hotels while their $40,000.00 Volt recharges. Also alot of these so called Green Jobs require high tech skills that your average inner city high school graduate or most other public school system graduates do not have. A degree in business or socialogy will not teach you to install and align these alternative power systems.

Gore please go home and shut up. you know nothing about global warming.

since when does a nobel peace prize winner who knows nothing about the warming trend take the throphy away from a 85 year old lady who has done more for humanity than you ever did or will ever do...of course you did a fifteen minute slide show about ice....

next question. when the big quack hit the scientists claim that the true magnetic noth was knocked of kelter by 4 degrees.....if this is so that would explain why the ice caps are melting.....lets see if you will step up to the plate now... do your investigating MR GORE AND BE QUIET

just goes to show you how politics works....if you are known and get into the limelight you will walk away with the prize

    SHAME ON YOU GORE!!!!!

Where is the scientific proof of man-induced global warming? During the past 2.8 million years there have been 8 cycles of global cooling and warming, which excludes humans from culpability. Examine the science-based record before wasting $1.37 trillion per year on a faith-based greenhouse phenomenon.
