CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - Hours after federal investigators announced they had arrested Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff on corruption charges, U.S. attorney Patrick Fitzgerald declared Tuesday a "sad day for government."
"Gov. Blagojevich has taken us to a new low," he said. "This conduct would make Lincoln roll over in his grave."
Fitzgerald said the government had bugged the governor's campaign office and placed a tap on his home phone.
Sounds like this guy has been corrupt for a really long time. How long has he been in office and why is this the first we're hearing of it?
Illinois governors don't seem to have a very moral reputation, do they?
It doesn't matter if they're democrat or republican – most politicians are corrupt in one way or another. The list of pols being incriminated in illegal activities goes on and on and on....
What's the surprise here? I am originally from Illinois. It is well known that Illinois has the very best government that money can buy.
"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." This is why people in positions of authority need to be closely scrutinized by the public whether they represent government, business, or any other organization affecting the lives of individuals.
Liberals doing what they do best.
Hey KM put him in with OJ!!!
Power corrupts, nothing is new, just wait a little longer. Obama is no angel either.
KM- LOL- I AGREE
Rod should be impeached for being even worse than Palin.
Political corruption, pay to play politics, and blind allegiance to labor unions is a NEW low for Illinois? Okay.
"We were in the middle "of a corruption crime scene and we wanted to stop it," Fitzgerald said."
Give me a break!! Why STOP the investigation???
Who else is involved.
Is this part of a cover up ????
The sad irony is that he did these things knowing that it was wrong.
Its funny how Rod Blagojevich, real estate developer Rezko (charged with fraud as well) and Obama's name keep coming up in the same scenario….should tell you democrats something about your shady Senator, yes he is Junior Senator Obama, thats it.
It is interesting that the US attorney that couldn't competently track down and prosecute the treasonous behavior in the Bush administration is now calling the typical slimey corruption we unfortunately see all-to-often in politicians a "new low". Oh really? Trying to sell-off a senate seat is indeed pretty pathetic, but is it lower than endangering the lives of our CIA agents by outing them? At the very least, where was all this accusatory and disdainful rhetoric when he was pursuing the criminals in the white house?
I smell a [R] turd.
Chicago = Obama = Shady Governor – Shady Campaign Contributor Rezko.......funny how all these things match up somehow

Shouldn't Fitz say instead that "this _alleged_ conduct would make Lincoln roll over in his grave"? Even for the rather obviously guilty in Chiacgo, there are ethical limits on pretrial prosecutorial statements.
KM- That's pretty deep lol. But I feel you.
What party is this governor from? Is that not important to this story?
How funny Fitzgerald says that. Isn't he the same one who tried Libby for the leak of Valerie Plame.
Old State Tourism Campaign Motto for Illinois was:
Illinois You've Put Me in a Happy State.
New Motto for Illinois:
Illinois You've Put Me in a Corrupt State. (proposed by M Mason 12/2008)
3 previous Illinois Governors did prison time... THAT BRINGS A WHOLE NEW MEANING TO SERVED as Governor!
(Plus Breaking NEWS, Rod Blagojevich has authorized me to sell Barrack Obama's old Senate Seat, so send me a Bid along with a Sway Check!!)
I've changed my mind.
Life in prison is too easy. And death doesn't inflict enough pain.
Cover him with a bucket of fire ants and burying him alive in a casket.
He's a democrat. But in Chicago, it really doesn't matter. The republican he replaced is in jail for corruption charges too.
It's too bad the dysfunctional and illegitimate Republican party in Illinois doesn't even have a viable candidate to put foward for Governor or U.S. Senator.
