Illinois lawmakers are set to convene over stripping Blagojevich the privilege of appointing the next senator .

(CNN) - Illinois lawmakers were quickly moving to take the decision of who will replace President-elect Barack Obama in the Senate out of the hands of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The 17th Amendment to the Constitution allows governors to fill vacant Senate seats, but politicians from both sides of the aisle have said it would be unacceptable for Blagojevich to choose Obama's successor.

"No appointment by this governor under these circumstances could produce a credible replacement," said Sen. Dick Durbin, Illinois' sole senator at the moment. Blagojevich was arrested Tuesday on federal conspiracy charges.

They need to strip him of his seat FAST and hurry. There was no need for this kinda of behavior and only shows the greed of some lawmakers. Wow! I wonder who else he has or tried to shakedown.

Lawmakerts moving to strip Blagojevich of Senate choice? After the amount of evidence we have on this issue, they should just impeach him. Done. It's another example of how politicians are NOT doing the right thing. Impeach him now!

If Gov. Blagojevich were in jail, he would certainly be under a suicide watch. He is a sick man. Does the Illinois constitution have a provision for someone to take over the responsibilities of an incapacitated governor?

Blagojevich (democrat) and any republican should be accountable and if they break the law they should be sent to jail. Of course we have the biggest crook in the White House at this time and Cheney and on and on but of course they are not accountable. Instead Bush sends the items that he wants to be said about him when the people know that he is the worst president in History.

They should strip him of a lot more than the ability to make that decision. He should be impeached now before he can do more harm.
IL should probably scrap all their politicians and just start over. The greed and corruption goes so deep there and is so easily accepted as part of doing business there is no hope of repairing the current administrations.
Fire them all and start over. Even the politicians that did not participate in the their pay to play government knew it existed.

They should have a special election to decide who gets it, especially under the circumstances.

They should enact an emergency provision that strips the authority away from him right now. At this point, they should just let P.E. Obama name Tammy Duckworth his successor for two years and pick back up at the next election.

That's a shot of the old state capitol building in Springfield. Illinois lawmakers haven't gathered there in more than 100 years. The state capitol building where lawmakers meet is located on 2nd Street. Try a search for images.

The impeachment and removal process is rather lengthy under any circumstances, particularly since not all of the evidence has been unsealed by the prosecutors. Stripping the Governor of his power to do more damage is a quick and reasonable measure to take.

This guy shouldn't have a choice of paper or plastic, much less the ability to choose a Senator.

Impeach him, put him on trial, and put him in jail where he belongs.

I understand they have a special "Governor's Wing" at the Illinois Federal Penitentiary...
