Obama calls on Blagojevich to resign

Obama is now calling on Blagojevich to step down.

(CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama Wednesday joined calls for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to resign.

"The president-elect agrees with [Illinois] Lt. Governor Quinn and many others that under the current circumstances it is difficult for the governor to effectively do his job and serve the people of Illinois," Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

On Tuesday Blagojevich was arrested on federal conspiracy charges. Prosecutors alleged in their complaint that Blagojevich pressured candidates to replace Obama in the Senate for campaign contributions and other benefits.

Gibbs said Obama also supported legislation that will be considered by Illinois lawmakers on Monday to authorize a special election to choose his successor.

Obama believes Illinois lawmakers should "put in place a process to select a new senator that will have the trust and confidence of the the people of Illinois," Gibbs said.

People who try to link Obama to this man are idiots. The only thing they have in common is their party affilation. Blagojevich had in the past even refered to Obama in a deragatory term and then mention that "Obama will be a problem for us". This statement was in regards to the scandal he was trying to pull off. To any detractors do us all a favor READ and educate yourself first then comment.

Most politicians are pretty corrupt. What really makes me wonder about Illinois is how they could elect such an idiot. Are their brains frozen?

obama is quick to tell other people what to do and yet he refuses to show a vault birth certificate. One that would prove once and for all he is qualified to be president.

But what with employing 3 law firms and spending almost a million dollars to keep from showing it, it leaves those citizens of this country that love the Constitution wondering...WHAT HAS HE GOT TO HIDE.

I just want to add to my post and clarify that I am not an "Obama hater". I'm just saying that I'm hoping and praying that our wonderful Illinois political corruption hasn't found it's way to a national level. I hope he can do all the great things he promises, and still protect us from all the evil in the world that wants nothing less than all of us dead.

Would CNN please look into business dealings in the past involving Gov. Blagojevich, Obama and Tony "the fixer" Rezko. There seems to be some shady dealings there – Rezko has extensive Mid-East ties and was convicted in 2008 for some complex political/financial maneuvering.

Isn't this going to be so much fun….Watching Obama try to distance himself from yet another scumbag which helped to get him elected.

Matt-my-buddy. Obama's people likely did not know what Blago's people were doing anymore than I know what you're doing right now. Drop the paranoia and the extreme suspicion and try a dose of objectivity. What is the origin of your profound pessimism towards the Obamians? Tis the season to do some soul searching. Peace to you and yours.

The corruption of Illinois' government is not new, nor is it isolated. It trickles down to the lowest levels.I grew up in Chester, IL, the location of Menard State Pententiary. Growing up, it was well understood that if you wanted a job working at the Prison you had to "know" somebody and/or pay somebody to get a job there. It didn't matter who was most qualified for the job, it was who you knew or how much you paid.

For that matter, what makes government jobs so appealing...the fact that you get paid very well for a job that doesn't really require any WORK!!! So, the taxpayers are getting ripped off on many levels.

I live in South Carolina now, but I can almost guarantee that if you took a poll, you'd find that 75% of the employees in state/policital positions got that job through connections, not be being most qualified.

    Brain:

They were wire tapping him because one of his circle informed the FBI that he was engaging in illegal activities, namely, trying to blackmail people into contributing money to him. The FBI got a warrant and here we are today.

Read the criminal complaint. it should spell it all out for you.

    Dear Illinois,

We like Barack a lot, and we know he's your favorite son. We would like you to send him to the White House. As far as your other son, Blagojevich, send him to the Big House or the outhouse for all we care.

    Thank you,

    America

"It wasn't rove who outed Plame, it was the democratic favorite Anthony Zinni. But you wouldn't know that because once your media found out it was Zinni and not Rove, they lost interest. But nice try.
And the media has been against Bush from day 1, there is no Republican Media, only the liberal media"

Frank, I think you on another planet. It was Dick Armitage that outed Plame. Grant you that may or may not be true based on the administration we are dealing with. But apparently you get your news through conservative circles that send out factually incorrect emails that create a sub culture of distrust in America. While I applaud your effort to not believe everything your told, your clearly out of touch with reality. You may want to go back to posting on the Fox News site. They love your kind!!!

Can someone with resources please look into the meetings/dealings between Obama, Gov. Blago and Tony Rezko (a Syrian-born Chicagoian convicted in 2008 of political/financial maneuvering)? There seems to be some shadiness there, but I can't get enough info. Note- Obama bought/sold property to/from Rezko.

    Oh Please!

Obama and the gov were not friends. Obama kept his distance from the gov for several years because the gov character was suspect for a while. So, Oh Please, please get your facts together before you run off at the mouth.

    Effective immediately:

Blago Boy must go. He must go now. He must not stop and go straight to jail, or as they say the Big House. Do not stop to let him pack because where he's going there's only one uniform.

I am hoping that the Governor will make a plea bargain and to spill the beans on other corruption going on in the windy city.

I would also like to hear more about how Obama was doing during his time in the IL government?

What about the tie between Rezko, the governor and Obama?

I love how when you read blogs during the election on CNN website 95% of them were pro Oboma. Now after the election the majority are against him. Hmmmmm....think people were paid to do nothing but blog away about how great Oboma was? With his campaign budget I bet they were.

All of my friends in Chicago are good people and I hold nothing against them, however the political machine that is Chicago is nothing but trouble. Hmmm...didn't Akorn start in this same city? This plays no connection with Oboma? Give me a break people!!! Look at the connections and if you can't find them on CNN website (aka the left stream media) check out Fox News. They actually tell you about the scary connections of people.

Love to see the true people can actually get a chance to speak their peace on CNN blogs now.
