Obama calls on Blagojevich to resign

Obama is now calling on Blagojevich to step down.
Obama is now calling on Blagojevich to step down.

(CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama Wednesday joined calls for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to resign.

"The president-elect agrees with [Illinois] Lt. Governor Quinn and many others that under the current circumstances it is difficult for the governor to effectively do his job and serve the people of Illinois," Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

On Tuesday Blagojevich was arrested on federal conspiracy charges. Prosecutors alleged in their complaint that Blagojevich pressured candidates to replace Obama in the Senate for campaign contributions and other benefits.

Gibbs said Obama also supported legislation that will be considered by Illinois lawmakers on Monday to authorize a special election to choose his successor.

Obama believes Illinois lawmakers should "put in place a process to select a new senator that will have the trust and confidence of the the people of Illinois," Gibbs said.

I think the proof is in the pudding.

Blagojevich hates Obama. He even said that the Obama people were honest and he couldn't get anything out of them. This he said on tape! Yet and still people are trying to link Obama to this?

    Can you say huh?

"How do you think Barack Obama was elected to his Senate seat?"
He was elected by the voters, fair and square. The right way. Sorry your candidate lost, but get over it.
I love the people who are so quick to judge Barack Obama.
It wouldn't surprise me if these were the same people who supported/voted for people like George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Sarah Palin, and Ted Stevens!
Good riddance to Blagojevich. That guy is a total nutcase thinking he can get away with something like that.

Yo' dittoheads put down the binky and try and educate yourselves.

There are NO charges against Blago at this point ONLY allegations.

If he is indicted he is still considered innocent until his trial(I personally think Fitzgerald is screwed, since there is no PROOF of a crime only chatter about it)

Most people are reluctant to call for someone to resign just on allegations even with tapes. Even you dttoheads can lodge a complaint against oh say, Obama about a silly issue like oh say a birth certificate.

you may resume sucking the binky or whatever

Marc: The governor said Obama wants “Senate Candidate 1″ for the seat but complains “they’re not willing to give me anything except appreciation.” You are ashamed of Obama because he won't offer a bribe?

Rick, call names on anyone that disagrees with you is not the way to make a point. Show facts, true ones and not those that are smears or empty accusations, FACTS. Expose them in a respectful way, after all you are either defending your position or rebuking one that you believe/think that is wrong, and a 'I'm smarter than you all' attitude is not appreciated.
Finally, if proven wrong or mistaken, admit it (at least in private), don't keep repeating what anyone who decides to check on your facts can easily find out that they are wrong or false, it will only discredit you.
This said, read the pdf file on this site with all the 76 pages of accusation against Blagojevich. It proves that he did tried to sell it (the seat at the Senate) to the Obama staff, but they didn't wanted to buy it, so he ended up calling them names and saying what he tought that they should do...

How is it that every time someone in Chicago gets into trouble, Obama had a part in it? Was it just me who heard what Blajoavich said about Obama? He hates Obama! How can people glean corruption on Obama's part to this?

Some of you need to go and post on Politico where the rest of the GOP nuts are.

Gee and I thought the Dems were fight the culture of corruption, silly me. Obama has not even been sworn in yet and they prove the same as they painted the Republicans as being. So much for Obama and the Democrats being the hope for America. The gov of his own state even, ha! Let hope it's not one of those, "the apple dosen't fall too far from the tree" deals." The only thing that makes this better is that a Dem was on here the other day talking about how the gentleman who won Jeffersons seat in La. better change parties if he want to get re-elected. News flash; He got elected because they found $90,000 in FBI sting money in Jeffersons democratic freezer! That is why they lost the seat to a Republican. Many more to follow, mark my words. You thought the Republicans were bad, just wait until you see the rest this dog and pony show has to offer.

Republicans wanna make up any excuse to not follow a new direction. After 8 years of the worst President in history and an economy that is becoming more and more like the 1930's , these ReThuglicans still seem to have the audacity to throw firebombs. I just hope that they go further so that we can have our civil war and let those dumb conservatives secede from the Union like they intended to do so long ago. And as an answer to the question above. A conservative is far more likely to burn the flag. Never mind which side you were on Democrat or Republican. During the civil war conservatives seceded from the Union and liberals fought to free the slaves and against secession. And during the civil rights movement conservatives did burn the American flag this time as Republicans and not Democrats. I just hope these Republicans try to get violent it's high time we got rid of Hitler's 4th Reich.

Wow John Galt 1:36PM, you really need to do some research before you speak. Gov Blagojevich supported the opposing candidate for the democratic senate primary in 2004 when Obama made his initial run, and he was a no show for the DNC when Obama accepted the nomination. You would have known this if you read the basic articles on this topic before typing.

Between this and Rezko coming up, Obama will be lucky to make it to inauguration day without being indicted.

Rick you are an idiot. Statements like that is exactly why you republicans didn't get office. Making up stuff is the exact reason. Stupid redneck!

    atlas,

Everyone knows he's a democrat. What's the point in keeping score, both sides have corrupt politicians and both sides need to clean house.

Mike here are some facts: Obama has had a relationship with Mr. Blagojevich, having not only endorsed Blagojevich in 2002 and 2006, but having served as a top adviser to the Illinois governor in his first 2002 run for the state house. To say "They have never been friends" is just a lie. Maybe you should of learned about Obama's background be for you voted.

OK all you Obama maniacs - Blagojevich is just the tip of the iceberg. Thanks for electing another corrupt idiot from the Chicago politcal sewers and putting him in the White House. Just what the rest of us in the US needed. Thanks a lot. You think this is an isolated incident? Chicago and the entire state of Illinois is full of corrupt jerks like them.

    I wonder?

I wonder if there is "any" American politcian that did not do a favour or pay somebody to get elected – hummmmm!

    What is very news worthy!

Is that some Americans think this case is extra ordinary!

Obama – you need to clean house – regardless of party!

The Amercian people can't do it – they keep voting the same guys in!

This is a no-brainer. This guy needs to go to jail for 20 years just like the last Illinois governor. I don't think Obama deserves accolades for a simple call like this but at least he didn't do the wrong thing. Check out gloomboom.com

This incident is not near as bad as Bush and Cheney taking us to war and getting over 4,000 boys killed. If anyone goes to prison, it should be these two. At least Belgo didn't get anyone killed and didn't lie to the American people about a WM. Put him in prison but leave Obama alone so he can clean up some of the mess the past administration as made for the last eight years.

I'm no big Obama fan and I wouldn't put it past him to have shady dealings in the past with this man. That said, even the audio recordings indicate that Obama refused to offer anything more than "appreciation" for a good appointment. So, in this instance at least -case closed.

American politicians are involved in many scandals. This is a test for PE Obama to cleanse the political machinary in USA.

President Reagan admitted his DRUG dealings and never resigned but simply apologised. His CIA boss Bush Sr. just escaped without any charges. We must keep these matters of history in mind before shouting at others!

When we compare Reagan's DRUG deals, Gov. of Chicagos case is a peanut! Get over it!
