Obama calls on Blagojevich to resign

Obama is now calling on Blagojevich to step down.

(CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama Wednesday joined calls for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to resign.

"The president-elect agrees with [Illinois] Lt. Governor Quinn and many others that under the current circumstances it is difficult for the governor to effectively do his job and serve the people of Illinois," Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

On Tuesday Blagojevich was arrested on federal conspiracy charges. Prosecutors alleged in their complaint that Blagojevich pressured candidates to replace Obama in the Senate for campaign contributions and other benefits.

Gibbs said Obama also supported legislation that will be considered by Illinois lawmakers on Monday to authorize a special election to choose his successor.

Obama believes Illinois lawmakers should "put in place a process to select a new senator that will have the trust and confidence of the the people of Illinois," Gibbs said.

    The Governor should resign immediately.

There are some who believe that he has certain rights; to be innocent before being found guilty is a right but to serve is a privilege.

Obama is right to speak out now for Blago's resignation.

I think it is funny that the Republicans who lost and are very angry about that fact are still going around spewing hatred and accusations about Obama still. You need to get on with your lives. Living with such anger is only going to hurt yourselves.
Corruption isn't a Republican or Democratic issue! It has happened about equally on BOTH sides. Morality or lack of it is a personality trait depending on the person not according to what party they are in!
The FBI has been taping Blagojevich for years. The taped evidence shows that Obama did not participate in this corruption in any way. It came straight from the horse's mouth. Sorry Republicans, I know how much you wish it but wishing something doesn't make it fact!

Ed did you hear the Governor say he had something on Obama in the tapes from the FBI or just in the wishful thinking-figment of your tainted imagination. Flush out the baggage Ed.

Alan Green, first of all, nobody believes that you voted for Barack Obama.
Second, he HAS personally commented on the situation.
Start telling the truth and try to keep up.

The people here who actually think Pres. Elect Obama and Gov. Rod are friends obviously don't live in Illinois and don't have a clue. They are not close, there are no ties, Obama blocked him from speaking at the convention, did not campaign, and the hopefully soon to be ex-gov. did nothing to get Obama elected because Obama didn't want anything to do with him. Please quit trying to come up with make believe ties to people that don't exist, or at least do a little homework first.

Reps and conservatives are salivating on that, lol. They really needed a bone lately, poor guys. And like hungry dogs they are going to nimble on that for a while. By the way, it was not a convicted Rep felon disputing the seat for Alaska without even a whimp from them?
Their high values are only valid against democrats, now I remember why I left the right for good. hypocrisy.
From my side, I find wonderful this guy is being busted now and I hope even more the house gets clean as soon as possible. Better yet if it was Obama people that ousted the pariah.

To Bhupendra – that dislike Obama – you cannot judge the president elect Obama relate to this scandal. Youneed to read about "who is" Gov. Rod Blagojevich in Wikipedia and you will know why he did this corruption. You cannot judge someone because he is from Chicago and relate them to this corruption. Gov. Blagojevich did this on his own because his greed and abuse power.
So, think before you judge someone.

Democratic or Republican there are BAD politicians.....don't blame the party, blame the person. You 'partisan pounders' make me laugh, do you want to dump your whole football team when the QB has dog fights too??

But, if all this is true, the Gov should step down.....btw.....just like Sarah Palin SHOULD have stepped down after she was found guilty of abuse of power by a NON_PARTISAN panel in AK. Oh I forgot, she created another panel to exonerate her......how much does THAT smell?? Don't criticize when your own closet is full of skeletons.

I dare any self-righteous moron to try and scold and shame people like me that refuse to vote. I don't trust anyone in life. That is what I've learned in my 45 years. I don't trust business. I don't trust the government. I don't trust any of the institutions including The Church. I don't trust people in general. As far as not voting is concerned, it is NOT apathy. It is contempt.

This is not a shocker by any stretch of the imagination. Corruption is all over Washington, Illinois, NY and yes Alaska. In a world where anything seems to go you can only be responsible for yourself and your own actions. You can't make grown people behave in an ethical way if they wish not to and unfortunately sometimes we have to work with crooks and people we don't like very much. The people of these states are the ones electing their officials and turning a blind eye to what they know is corruption.

Is Obama going to call on Rahm to resign?

According to paragraphs 100-107, Blagojevich states on tape that the advisor from the 5th CD (congressional district) preferred giving Blagojevich the 'change to win' position. Rahm holds the 5th CD currently. Duh.

There times when politicians make dumb decisons that have nothing at all to do with being republican or democrat...the decisions really have a lot to do with being just plain DUMB. I'm praying for Rod and others. A priceless piece of advice, Submit yourself to God, then you'll have the capacity to resist the devil (& his temptations). Peace out.

The repub posters here seem to think Obama was the one doing the extorting. He was the one who did not want to play that game, so whatever you think happened has not been disclosed. Since the phone calls were wiretapped, if PE Obama said/did anything wrong, THAT would be a bigger story than gov blago.

Frank, did you post your repuke talking point on the wrong blog?
