Obama says his office had no role in governor scandal

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested on federal conspiracy charges Tuesday.
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested on federal conspiracy charges Tuesday.

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama Thursday said no one in his office engaged in dealmaking with Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich over who would succeed him in the Senate.

FBI agents arrested Blagojevich on Tuesday on federal corruption charges related in part to the selection of Obama's successor as a U.S. senator. Federal officials said Blagojevich was looking to sell or trade the position.

Obama said the vacant Senate seat is not for "any politician to trade," and he said he had never spoken to the governor on the subject.

He said he was confident that "no representatives of mine would have any part of any deals related to this seat." The Senate seat "belongs to the people of Illinois and they deserve the best possible representation," he said.

Actually a national survey on corruption in state gov'ts, Illinois was 18th on the list with Alaska, Texas and South Dakota right up there.

On an International survey of western democracies concerning corruption in business, America ranks 9th out of 22 tied with France.

...and Americans think other countries look up to them for thier democracy and values??

Keep in mind, Blago got elected on the premise that he was going to clean up after the extreme level of corruption of the Ryan (R) administration. Let's hope this really breaks the circle in Illinois politics and corrupt Democrats and Republicans spend a lot of time in jail – in general population.

It is clear from the anti-Obama mindless blather in these comments that there are a lot of Neocon Fascists who are terribly distressed that the Greatest President of All Time, George W. Bush, is running out of time. These people make it obvious that they are terrified President-Elect Obama may stop the destruction of the USA which the Neocons have worked so hard toward these past years.

To all those who are trying to tie the Illinois governor to Barack Obama, where is the connection? They are not allies as evidenced by the fact that Mr. Obama would not allow the governor to speak at the Democratic Convention or on election night at Grant Park. Listen to the tapes to see if there is any criminal or even unethical connection. You will hear the governor using just about every work George Carlin said could not be used on television to describe Mr. Obama and as the U.S. Attorney has stated there is no link between the two in this matter. As a major league would say to a new rookie pitcher, "Show me your stuff." Unfortunately for the Obama haters they have nothing to offer except a lot of hot air.

How can Obama be connected to every unsavory character in Illinois and not be apart of the corruption?

Hey Ana B. You said in defense of BHO:

"And no matter what he says, those who hate him will continue to try and pin anything and everything on him."

Richard E. you really should try proof reading your comment prior to clicking on the submit button. I have an 11 year old granddaughter that could put together a better paragraph. As for the smoking incident, is that the best you can come up with? Really weak.

Think this is just the beginning. Why do the Leftist have such a hard time realizing the truth. Are you that dumb?? I can betcha Obama had some contact with this man and Axelrod was telling the truth. All I can say is Obama must have been the lonliest man in Chicago because according to him, he never was friends with anyone. Ayers, Wright, Retzko. Strange!

I agree with you Tom. Obama is way too smart for this. Of course the people who hate Obama are gonna try their best to tie him to this scandal and anything else they can try and tie him to. It's not going to work though. It didn't work with Rev. Wright, it didn't work with Bill Ayers, it didn't work with Rezko and it won't work with Gov. Blago. It's not funny, but on the other hand it is kind of funny.

Obama is a Harvard Grad. and intelligent enough to overcome all odds to win primary and presidental elections over the most power policticians of the day.Anyone who's stupid enough to think he has involvement in this is just that stupid. The chief investigator already told you he has no involvement. So get over it the GOP lost ,you should be glad after dealing with a fake Yale Grad.(GWB) and a fake Top Gun McBrainless mister crash and burn.
