Blagojevich was arrested earlier this week.

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) – Embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Friday he will wait to speak to the Illinois people at the "appropriate time."

Asked whether he had anything to say to Illinoisans, the governor, who was leaving his attorney's office, told CNN, "I will at the appropriate time."

The governor also did not answer a question on whether he is going to resign, saying only, "I'll have a lot to say at the appropriate time."

I think i can say for most of Illinois, that the only thing we want to hear from Rod Blagojevich is......I RESIGN!!!!

Jeff   December 12th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

If you know anything about San Pedro, Calif, you will know why we so relish what has just happened!

Eloise from Lufkin TX   December 12th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

I really believe the governor knows a lot and is getting ready to sing...enough to make people really lawyer up right now....interesting...

jack   December 12th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

This guy said that he "just wants to make money". After this scandal (and some Federal prison time) he'll be lucky to get a job a McDonalds cleaning the bathrooms.

Carla, MN   December 12th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

When is the appropriate time–when he's in the BIG HOUSE. LOL

He'd better not mess things up for Obama. His mother raised him right. Blagos' mom apparently didn't.

purple mountains   December 12th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

today would be an appropriate time to step down mr. blagojevich.

DE   December 12th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

Any guesses who will be Obama's first pardon?

Jayson   December 12th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

If you are guilty, then step aside and let the courts deal with you. There is no time to waste on junk like this anymore. Thanks a lot for chalking up another one for us Democrats, jerk.

Kitten Cat   December 12th, 2008 9:08 pm ET

What an idiot. How in the world did this man get elected?

Soccer Nana   December 12th, 2008 9:06 pm ET

It will be interesting to see who he will TRY to bring down with him.

He has known for quite some time his number was up.

J.C.   December 12th, 2008 9:01 pm ET

He is innocent till proven guilty, but the taping of his unbelievable confession is pretty strong evidence.
He should be suspended from his job on paid leave and wait for his trial.

California Gold   December 12th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

Once this corrupt guy starts singing you'll have to slap him to shut him up.

Dennis from Millbrae, CA   December 12th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

"Appropriate time" being at the sentencing hearing?

A Canuck   December 12th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

What's under all that hair ??? It isn't brains !!!!

Independent voter   December 12th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

the man is nuts!!

Darth Vadik, CA   December 12th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

You know what Blagojevich...

...pack your bags and go to jail.

I always spoke out when Republicans turned out to be crooks, but one thing that turns my stomach more than a crooked Republican, is a crook that is a Democrat.

...and good ridance to you.

tricia   December 12th, 2008 8:42 pm ET

Well, well Mr. Blagovich; it is time you resign. I really think you have a compulsive mental disorder seriously. There is a definite sign of consistency of lying, swindling and not even caring about the decisions you make.

How can you even think that this type of behavior is attractive to the citizens of Illinois?

YOU NEED TO RESIGN!

bill for barack   December 12th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

The time is now.
And the announcement should be "I resign.".

Steve in Las Vegas,NV   December 12th, 2008 8:40 pm ET

Just GO AWAY! He represents no one but himself and other crooks.
He is the face of crooked politics everywhere. Rod, visit your barber, SOON!

CNN has a "hit list," way back to the primaries - anyone who did NOT support Obama - even way back then - may "occasionally" get their comment posted - but GENERALLY NO, NO, NO! - quite unlike the idiots who post SLIME, pure and simple - and get posted MULTIPLE times !!!!!

CNN, your time is starting to to be UP!!!!!!!!!! Count on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to get back to your hole, Mole

arc, Lugano CH   December 12th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

If all that is being said is true about Governor Blagojevich, I hope that President-Elect Obama and the Democratic Leadership will support his prosecution and sentencing. It would be unfortunate if Governor Blagojevich is given the same escape from any punishment that Bush granted to Scooter Libby. Someone needs to set an example for those who abuse their power, no matter what party they are from.

Larry   December 12th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

If he knows what's good for him,he'll keep his mouth shut.

Omidal   December 12th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

'm am really disgusted by the way Politicians and government officials behave in America. If it was in Europe you will see the person mentioned in a scandal dutifully remove himself from public service. Once the public does not have confidence in you in many countries, it is time to go. Nobody had to tell Tony Blair he had to go, he just did. Even in Canada you see government officials resigned. Not least, even in India after the Mumbai attack you see the highest public safety official resigned from his post. Why the hell the US elected officials or appointees cannot give up their power when they go rogue?

cile/fairhiope, al   December 12th, 2008 7:59 pm ET

I find it impossible to believe that we the people elect these idiots. But then I look at George Bush and I am reminded of just how stupid the American people can be. We must do better.

R Milam   December 12th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Wright, Ayers, ACORN,and now Blagojevich. All the scumbags that surround Obama. Doesn't matter just as long as the rest of the world likes us right? Is it 2012 yet?

Yeah Right   December 12th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Response to the comment from alreadytiredofit:
"Uhm Rod, RESIGN! (then get a haircut for your trial)"
Let him keep his "hair"...we already know he's gonna be Bubbas' "lady-friend" once he arrives in jail

whitey   December 12th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

the time is now, before BO gets in the White House and makes it even more stinky.

Chi town politicians are filthy and and BO has it all over him....just a matter of time before the stinch is undeniable.

John Galt in Colorado   December 12th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

This is so much fun watching Obama squirm away from the scum who he helped to get elected and who helped him get elected. Get ready for a lot more of this over the next 4 years. Very much like the Clinton administration only worse.

WHO IS JOHN GALT?

sandee in Portland   December 12th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

I wouldn't believe one thing this guy said, included anyone he names as being involved, although I'm sure the Feds will check out everybody he names.

iyapo kontar   December 12th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

There is nothing more to say its time to go.

Joe Fattal   December 12th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

If that man is going down, he going to spill the beans. And I bet our president elect will be the first one on the list.

Dexter Skagway   December 12th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

Vince -- Northern California   December 12th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

I wonder how many "bleeps" will be in whatever he has to say.

Gary of El Centro, Ca   December 12th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

The only things he will have to say are "not guilty" at the start of his trial, and then "oh crap" when the verdict comes in.

John   December 12th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

one blessing from this At least Palin is off the news great!!!

Franky   December 12th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

That's it!! I want him out!! Or in the words of "Al Capone" played by Robert De Niro in "The Untouchables"..."I want his family dead , I want his house burn to the ground, etc..." Not literally, you know, but metaphorically(did I spell that, right? LOL!).

He should go, he's not giving us a good rep over here...too much attention!!

Robbin   December 12th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

is it me or does this Governor have the worse hair you have ever seen? LOL

mike   December 12th, 2008 6:54 pm ET

I hope lou dobbs and Co. are not gonna use this for the next 5months to smear Obama!

Luigi ina California   December 12th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

Once he flees beyond extradition, perhaps?

Toby in Illinois   December 12th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Frankly, if I never hear from him again, that will be all right. In 2006, I abandoned the Democrats and voted a straight Green Party ticket for state-wide offices. So did 11% of the voters overall, mainly out of disgust with both major parties. Now we'll be the only state with both a Republican and a Democratic governor in prison at the same time.

Ernie in LA   December 12th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Maybe he is going to mention Obama.

Juan Grain   December 12th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Greed will get you every time!

Repubs = evil   December 12th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

It's absolutely ridiculous that this is gotten this far. There is no way Blagojevich is guilty of all this. He's a Democrat, not a Republican. It's the Republicans that got Bush elected, lied to us, took us to war, and got our sons and daughters killed. Let Blagojevich go. He's innocent.

PL   December 12th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

How about you and your wife do it from prison??? Idiots

Evelyn   December 12th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

It never ceases to amaze me that even when evidence is piled at his feet, he can not do the right thing by the State of Illinois and just step aside gracefully. Why does it always have to be about you, Rod and not our people in Illinois-especially those of us in "downstate" . He spoke clearly from day one that those of us outside of greater Chicagoland were of no importance to him just by not being willing to have his family mingle with us as fellow residents. Shame on you Rod! You need to go find a new rock to crawl under. Illinois needs a reformer who knows what that means.

Ourania   December 12th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

He is a scum and he is going down!!!! I hope they put him together in the same cell with OJ and Ted Stevens!!!!! What a team that will be!!!!!!!

John   December 12th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Those of us who are from the Chicago area are not in the least bit surprised by the arrest of the Governor. Chicago/Illinois politcs is and always has been dirty.

steve campbell   December 12th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

perfect timing! they are only scum when they get caught.

alreadytiredofit   December 12th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Uhm Rod, RESIGN! (then get a haircut for your trial)

Larry   December 12th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

I don't think he will take anybody down with him,the mayor of Chicago has already told him to "do the right thing"(keep your mouth shut)

PJP   December 12th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Yea, he and all involved have got to get together to get all their stories straight so everyone will sound crediable.

Greg Hodges   December 12th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

For everything there is a season; even for this idiot! The time to address the people is at your resignation signing.

yellow dog democrat   December 12th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

I don't care if its Republican or Democrat – its sad to see when politics come to this – such a waste of time and focus! We the voters need to see that when we elect/support our representatives that they do their job with integrity – times will change – the information age is upon us – and the doors are always open.......

David Goldman   December 12th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

WHAT CONSTITUENTS ??

AL 7 ARE IN PRISON !!!

libbssuck1   December 12th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

The appropriate time is now! say " I quit" then you will do us all a favor.

sean burns   December 12th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

Seems like RIGHT NOW is the appropriate time.

setys   December 12th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

I am definitely sure that Governor Blagojevich did what he did intentionally. He knew that he was under investigation and decided to commit another corruption, I believe the reason was to cloud president elect Obama victory due to the tension between the two and for not giving a spot in the convention.

With his nonchalant attitude, you can tell he did it purposely.

Shane   December 12th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

HE SHOULD OF RESIGNED 4 DAYS AGO. 4 DAYS AGO WAS THE APPROPIATE TIME

Don of Fairfax   December 12th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

Blago just has to figure out how much he can get for the Governors seat?

Mary Joe Jane (a DC respected contract attorney that happens to be a republican)   December 12th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

He is innocent
Give him a break
God sent him to govern Illinois to save the people

umu ule   December 12th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Is Chicago a state i Russia. What a heck Blagojevich doing there?. Democracy is force, the people put you there and they people don't want you any more. The most honable thing to do is to resign and stop acting Russian.

Chi Town   December 12th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Robin...
You got that right... and I'm betting there are a lot of nervous people right now.

Just warms your heart

Milhouse van Houten   December 12th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

And just what, pray tell,is the appropriate time?

Bobbie in Maryland   December 12th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Hurry & get him out of the picture so that we can get on with THE BIG CHANGE!

Roy - Chicago Il   December 12th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

Perhapsd the appropriate time is when he wins the $200 million in the mega millions game!! Are those balls drawn in Illinois (gulp!)

Coultergeist   December 12th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

He needs to resign and salvage at least a speck of his dignity. But it appears as if he'll just go down in flame and take whomever he can with him. Loser!

Barack   December 12th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

He should just walk himself to jail instead of spending all his loot with lawyers

Gallimimus   December 12th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Lowest form of scum there is!!!

PDX Gal   December 12th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Blagojevich's first mistake: Not being a Republican. He could have been cheered and defended by his own instead of facing impeachment by the hands of his own party.

Next time- Blagojevich: Side with the party that cares nothing about policing itself!!!

Alex   December 12th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

This guy is a stain on the face of the Earth, the worst kind of scum, and since he doesn't have the dignity to resign from office he should be removed from office.

Dana   December 12th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

Why not talk now, TRY to talk your way out of the mess you created!!

Steve   December 12th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Appropriate time? He'd better use that one phone call to get himself a good lawyer, instead of talk to the people of Illinois.

Proud to be American   December 12th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Say I quit Rod that is all the folks want to hear from you.... you did not do the right thing and now you will pay for your sins.... jail is appropriate for you....

Robin   December 12th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

He is going down, he knows it. It will be interesting to see who he takes with him.

No Hillary = No Obama   December 12th, 2008 5:33 pm ET
