Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in.
The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in.

CHICAGO (CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

Did any of you Bush haters actually read the entire article? It clearly states in the article that the Blair house will be available on the 15th, as is the tradition. It will not be made available earlier than that date as requested by President-elect Obama. I also point to the final line of the article:

The only people that have a problem with this article is those of you who do not understand history, tradition, and protocol. Your man won. On the 21st of January he will become President and he will move into the White House. Then he can control the schedule of the Blair house until 15 Jan 2013.

What dignitaries? GW is busy going around the country making a fool of himself, more than usual. What was up with him holding hands with a bunch of kindergardeners and dancing? He looked really silly. Then he went on the football field and kicked the ball he wasn't supposed to. He just is a moron. It even got better when he tried to take a picture with some soldiers and they kept shoving him out of their way. They clearly did NOT want him in the picture.

Dignitaries... Right... Who could be still visiting GW? No one. Just let the Obamas move in and let the girls start school. We know they can go to a hotel, but what's the big deal? GW just wants to hold on to the Presidency as hard as he can. Everyone knows he is not doing anything. Obama, on the other hand, is already taking care of business and making changes!

Most of you idiots are missing the point. It's about allowing the kids to start school on time.

I guess bush & co. (his fellow republicans) don't want Obama watching too closely as they further ruin the country in those last days.

Not a surprise. Bush and his KLAN who support him are haters and will do anything possible to act like a–holes. Nothing new. We are used to it. But your days are numbered. Enjoy it while you can. The change in the economy is just a precursor to the change that is taking place in power from those on top, to the less fortunate.

The strongest people in the world aren't those most protected; they are the ones that must struggle against adversity and obstacles and surmount them to survive.

    Mack – READ THE ARTICLE.

He can get in on January 15. He wanted to get in earlier. He is getting the same treatment every other President-elect got.

Did any of you ripping Bush for this actually read the article. Obama can move in on the 15th, just like EVERY OTHER PRESIDENT ELECT has been able to. Obama wanted special treatment...he wanted the house before the 15th. And did you miss the last sentence here?

    Hey Mack
Inaugration is January 20th – not January 15th. So the only problem is Obama wanting to break protocol and occupy Blair House early. That's his fault/problem – not Bush's

Libs, libs, libs, I dont see the problem? They're allowed to move in WHEN THEY NORMALLY ARE ALLOWED. He's not any different then anyone else and I don't care about his daughters.

IT WAS FOR THE SAKE OF THE KIDS! Obama is a parent, and he seems to be a good one. Who wouldn't want to get their kids settled in as the new semester starts? It's nothing to bash anyone about. They tried to move in early, it didn't work out.

Big deal, the possibility was explored, it was not possible, end of story. I'm an Obama supporter and I don't see any slight here and I doubt the Obama family feels there was one.

They should let the Barack Obama move in ASAP and put the other occupants in a hotel or something like that. I also think the Obama the President elect should have been sworn in immediately and have Bush out of office once Obama was elected instead of waiting for over two months. There has not been much of anything happening with President Bush since Obamas election. Obama could have gotten going on things rather than have this stupid waiting period of over two months to get sworn in. President Bush is the absolute worst president and seems like he just can't wait to get out of office and go back to his stupid home in Texas. Bush is the most idiot president and Obama will get this economy back on track and start to rebuild the U.S. and jobs will finally smooth out. We just needed Obama to start sooner than waiting two months after him being elected!!

Absolutely rude and unacceptable. It should be MADE available immediately, and whoever in the White House staff who booked it prior to checking with the President-elect's staff should be fired!! Protocol is protocol! For shame! There is NOTHING that cannot be changed - so change it and allow the Obama family to stay there as has been the tradition!

You didn't read the article properly either. He CAN get in on the 15th. He wanted to get in earlier.

Many of you need remedial reading lessons.

This is crazy. Not the story but everyone who is taking it as a sign of something one way or the other. Obama made a request and if it was available I'm sure it would have been fine. Stop acting like this is a heinous offense by either side.
