Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in.

CHICAGO (CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

Not at all surprised the Bush administration is delaying availability of the Blair house to the Obama's. Typical Bush last straw just as he keeps sabotaging the environment as he continues to help his buddies in the oil, lumber and construction industry. That man has done more damage to the earth and all of us in eight years than any other president before. He will go down in history as the rogue, fool and ill informed Texan. Very sad indeed to witness such behavior in a high office. The people who voted for him should all be fined.

Rebekah, the definition of a fool is one who doesn't know they don't know.

The degree of foolery can very, but when one has the information readily available and still denies its existence, they are at the very least a blind fool.

You Rebekah, are at the very least, a blind fool. But more likely you are a hateful Un-American.

It is hard to comprehend the hatred, ignorance, lack of intelligence and bad manners of most of Mr. Obama's "supporters" on this blog.
    Incredible!

Boy, the sour grapes of the recent election is still puckering a lot of mouths out there. I don't ever remember the losers being so mean and even vicious, and that includes 2000, when Democrats had a right to be, with the runner up in 2004.

Perhaps Obama wants to move in early so he can further distance himself from the corrupt Chicago political machine that helped get him where he is. This man has more drama than anyone and he has not even taken office yet. Are we going to have to deal with this crap for 4 years.

And one other thing, why can't the Obama supporters make a comment without without calling someone names. Are you in the fourth grade or what?

It shouldn't be a surprise. The Obamas want to get their girls in school but we know how much value Bush has placed on education.

I'm an Obama supporter and I don't see anything wrong here. Judging by the way Obama's spokesman reiterated that Bush has been extremely accommodating, it doesn't sound like Obama's upset by it either.

It's a non-story. Obama asked to move in early, they told him it was already booked, end of story. No mention of anyone being outraged or hurt. Just business as usual – by which I mean, CNN inventing conflict where there isn't any just to tantalize the audience.

obama shoudn't get in to big of a hurry to move. he should pack light because it will not take to long after he takes office and most of this country will want to run him out of town after they see the REAL OBAMA in action!

  14. Give me a break!

Idiots on here...does this article say ANYWHERE that the Obamas were offended that they could not move in early? No. I repeat since your intelligence is so limited...NO! They only asked for their daughters' sake. Wouldn't you do the same as a parent? Oh, I forgot...you're perfect so you'd never ask any favors for your children. You're probably the type that calls the coach at night and threatens him if your "beloved" doesn't get to play in the game...MORONS!

It is nauseating to think that this an issue, let alone worthy to be covered by CNN. This is just insight into how the next four years will be. Every time something happens it will be met with an excuse by the Obamanites blaming it on Bush/Cheney. You might as well just slap an asterisk next to Obama's name in the history books with the footnote "not his fault, it was Bush/Cheney!".

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case". Why is this even a news story?
Can all of you read or are you just looking for controversy?
As for who the current President has accupying the house,
    THAT'S COMPLETELY HIS BUSINESS.

You know what? I know what Obama will say. He will say, 'Cool, I will look for an alternative way out of this whole thing for peace to reign' The press should stop generating ill feelings especially on issues concerning the president-elect. You will be surprised how Obama will work out this problem peacefully and amicably.

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

The Obama's get the 5 days that is standard by past protocol. The Bushes, by Obama's own admission, have been very friendly and accomodating. So this is a non-issue.

If we want to see why this country is where it is, we just need to look in the mirror and listen to the lack of civility on BOTH sides. It's sad that we can't focus on all that we agree on instead of our differences.

It is true the Bushes do not schedule the Blair house. In most cases it is booked months in advance (6+) and there is no way of knowing Obama was going to win nor he would require early access. I'm sure if it was available he would have been granted his request. The Washington Marriot is a block away and they have a presidental suite I'm sure he can use some of that left over $$$$ from the campain to cover the extra days until the 15th.

Obama was not my guy in the election, but he is my upcoming president. Isn't it time to stop the hate and let things take shape? What are you haters going to do when Bush leaves, who will you focus on then?

I am hoping Obama is sucessful, because as a country we can not afford failure. Just wish the US could be as united as we were on 9/11, where did the unity go????

Cindy and Kitty, you two really need to take your meds and calm down. There is no link between Obama and the Gov. There is no smoking gun so just get over it. We (the majority) elected Barack Hussien Obama to be OUR President and I am sick of you bitter Rethuglicans trying every dirty trick in the book to make him look bad.Your guy lost!
Nowhere does it say Obama was upset about this news. So stpo trying to make something out of nothing. OUR PE will move into the Bliar House on Jan 15 and them to the White House for the next 8 years.
Get a grip on reality. The stink bombs you are throwing at Obama only make you smell bad.

You people need to chill the hell out!!! Obama can occupy the house on the 15th as scheduled!!! Sure he wanted to just get in there so the kids can start school on time, but I am sure they will not be scarred if they have to pay for a hotel for a few weeks. I am the biggest Obama supporter I know...and I don't see what all the fuss is about!!!!

I don't understand why this is so upsetting? The house is going to be available to the Obamas on the 15th, which is the same date that it has been historically available to other PE's. Why should this PE be treated any differently? I'm as anxious as anyone to get Dubya out of the White House, but to cast blame on him for following historic protocol is simply ridiculous. Get a grip and a life!!!

If the Obamas are that adamant about having their girls start at their new school on time, can't they just get a hotel room for a few weeks? They're not exactly living paycheck to paycheck.

I'LL tell you who the morons are, you morons. The morons are anyone who thinks the Bushes aren't milking the last few weeks they have living off the fat of America. I'd like to see this list of "visiting dignitaries" ... probably Scooter Libby.

Good riddance to George W. Bush and his pathetic cronies and govenment... the worst in American history.
