Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in.
The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in.

CHICAGO (CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

Obama was not my guy in the election, but he is my upcoming president. Isn't it time to stop the hate and let things take shape? What are you haters going to do when Bush leaves, who will you focus on then?

I am hoping Obama is sucessful, because as a country we can not afford failure. Just wish the US could be as united as we were on 9/11, where did the unity go????

And here, gentle citizens, is a wonderful sampling of the American electorate. Unable to read, much less comprehend, the simplest of concepts without perceiving some non-existent conspiracy. Unwilling to conceded that maybe, just maybe, BOTH parties have let the American people down to an incalculable degree. Speculative criticisms about Bush 'looting' the White House are fascinating given the previous occupants tried to take everything that wasn't nailed down (a specific example regarding the presidential yacht comes to mind). Unfounded accusations of the Obama's behaving in an 'elitist' fashion are equally misguided. Here's an analogy: You have reservations at a hotel. As the date approaches, you call ahead and ask if they can accomodate you earlier than your reservation. Unfortunately, the hotel is booked solid and they cannot. You graciously say you understand and will make other arrangements until the date of your prearranged reservation. Are you 'elitist' for asking if it would be possible to arrive early? Is the hotel conspiring against you because they simply do not have the room to accomodate you? If you are a guest at that hotel and they asked you to LEAVE (regardless of your own reservation) because someone else decided to show up early, would that be OK with you? More than one person has suggested that 'remedy' – and I suspect they'd be the first to point out the indignity of such treatment. I did not vote for Obama. He will be the President of the United States however, and for his sake and the sake of our country, I wish him nothing but the best of luck. I hope he's up to the formidable challenges ahead. Move on people – both parties. The answers for our country do not lie in justifying the misguided status quo of our respective ideologies. The answers will come from innovative ideas on both sides of 'the aisle'.

Blair House is booked by Bush, for his guests??? As a president elect, Obama is doing more of a positive nature in transition than Bush has done in his lifetime! If the Obama family need the Blair House now they should get it NOW!

This is a big deal, because starting a new school mid year is hard for any young girls. It is a shame that those in control did not do a better job of anticipating this. It makes the folks in the White House appear as if they are acting like they are being polite and congenially to the camera’s but behind the scene that are a bunch and angry whiny cry babies evoking petty revenge on Obama for their own failings.

Impeach Obama now. Just because he hasn't done anything illegal yet doesn't mean he won't in the future. Impeach him before he takes office even if this is a legal impossibility. I voted for Palin and I'm bitter because she won't be president now. We need Obama to confess to crimes he might have committed in the past and might commit in the future. He needs to prove beyond all doubt that he is innocent of all possible charges and then we won't believe him. I'm not paranoid, just ignorant and slightly drunk.

Please checkout the excerpts from Fareed Zakaria's interview with Gen. Powell. Most importantly, his comments about Rush...:)

I still can't seen how "well" educated people still listen to Rush still. It just beats me.

Obama is not any different or special than any other president elect. He is being given the same treatment as any incoming president. Ernie, love the sarcasm. :O))

If the obamas can afford the sixty thousand dollar tuition for their daughters fancy private school, they can certainly afford a hotel for a couple of weeks.

"The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."" That says it all. The outgoing republican administration is performing their constitutional duties for their incoming counterparts and acting like adults. This is in sharp contrast to the child-like behaviour of outgoing Clinton regime back in 2000. The Clintonistas went out of their way to create havoc and were plain rude to the incoming Bush administration. Everyone seems to have forgotten that.

If Obama and his family were white, from Texas and involved in the Energy Industry, they'd have had a chance.

    The way I see it....

    *Ringing*

Blair House – "Blair House, can I help you?"

Obama's team – "Blair House? Can the Obama's move in any earlier than January 15th so their kids can start school on time?"

Blair House- "Oh I'm sorry...it's booked, and it doesn't appear we'll be able to change that. We were expecting the Obamas on the 15th. So sorry."

Obama's team- "Oh that's quite alright, it's no problem, we were just wondering. It's late notice we realize. Don't worry. Thank you anyway."

    End of story....thanks for sharing.

For all you crybabies that keep insisting that Obama is not the President yet and he's arrogant, blah, blah, blah: I've got news for you idiots, we don't have a president and haven't had one in eight years! All we've had is an ignoramus that can't even tie his shoes who surrounded himself with a bunch of Nazi, corrupt, thugs who only cared about enriching themselves at the expense of every American. If there was one iota of honor in Bush the Bumbler, he would wait until after dark, pack his bags and slink out of town, hopefully, never to be seen again!!!

What is the problem? He asked and was told it was not possible. End of story.
The Blair House will be available on 1/15/09. Five days before inauguration. The same as it has been for the President Elects before him.
