Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in.
The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in.

CHICAGO (CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

Who will the haters focus in after Jan.20? Well, I will still be focused on Bush and getting justice for this nation by indicting him, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, and anyone who lied to us (guess Perino can be included too.)
And I don't hate anyone. I am just disgusted at the way Bush lies and smirks and shrugs and does his "oh gosh" bit like he never had a thing to do with torture, illegal wires, imprisoning innocent people without representation for YEARS, the thousands of deaths in Iraq...no, no, not his fault...bad intelligence. Yup, HIS! Maybe some of you "non-haters" will see the light eventually and realized you were duped, but maybe not. Just because the man says he's against abortion and believes in smaller government does not make him a President. He does not practice what he preaches, or we would not be in this catastrophe with the country falling apart in front of our eyes. Keep smirking, GW, right into the big house.

  2. Trash journalism!

Shame on you CNN. This is no news. Stop manufacturing BS to fuel people's emotions. Incase you haven't noticed, many nutwings just wait for this kind of fuel to get their fire going. Do you realize the serious issues facing this country? We realize there are many adults stuck in juvenile and 2 yr old brains, and/or arrested emotional development. These folks don't need your help!!

CNN, you are on a fastrack lane to trash journalism!

Good grief. CNN decided this was news, and many people decided that there was something negative about it! Two wrongs don't make a right, and sure don't make an article worth reading. I wouldn't normally comment on such non-news, but some of the posters here are amazing me with their ability to make something out of nothing. Of course he would ask, and I'm sure he accepted the answer, so where is a story here? For various conveniences, my husband and I asked to move things into a house a few days before the closing, and we could – no big deal. If we couldn't have, then that would be no big deal also.....nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The Blair House is by invitation only for Foreign Heads of State, So my question would be, What Foreign Heads of State are there by invitation so close to the Inaguration. And why invite Foreign Heads of State so close to the end of his term in office, seems fishy to me.

Do you people even bother to read...This is stupid and just another tabloid story on the ticker...Obama isn't intitled to Blair House and its booked...so move on. He will still have it 5 days, as normal and he even says that the White House has been more than cordial in this transition. Give Bush some credit. I am a die-hard democrat and I can see this is a non-issue and really am tired of people over-reacting. Obama will never be successful with people out there that blog crap like we see on here. Plus, the Obama's can afford a place to stay if they need to get the girls into school early..plenty of foreclosed houses in DC.

Can everyone here just take a deep breath and stop being such jerks?

There's no conflict. Obama made a request beyond tradition. Tradition seldom includes school age children, but it's still tradition. Bush denied it. I could speculate snidely about why, but I won't.

There are no hard feelings of any kind stated in the story. The comments section, OTOH, is full of hard feelings from both sides. Pretty much all are undeserved. The wingnuts are reading in content that's not there; my fellow moonbats are not reading the content that is there.

Donald – It's your fellow REpublican senators that want to stick it to the Union workers(who are as american as apple pie). That's why this bailout fell through. It's disgusting b/c everyone fell in line to bailout wallstreet, but when company's close to main st need help, this is what happens. Also those that opposed the bailout, have foreign auto companies in their home states. W/o unions! this is what it all comes down to. Stipulations on workers, not on tycoons.

Bushes has no guesses staying at Blair House. Every government in the world cannot wait for Bush and Cheney to move on to the next life. I still think Obama should wait until the 15th Jan., get a hotel to live in.

Would you people PLEASE read the article again? It didn't say he wasn't being allowed to stay in the Blair House. It said that he wasn't being granted access EARLIER than the 15th! He is being treated as every President-Elect before him has, as the article states! As it should be! Why should he get special accomodations? I guess this is just him trying to prove what he stands for – trying to give AND GET a bunch of free hand-me-outs!

President Bush had already scheduled the Blair House for the early part of January because it still BELONGS TO HIM UNTIL JANUARY 20TH! He has done nothing wrong. Leave the poor man alone and let him leave with what little dignity the American public has left him with!

Have all the hotels in the DC area suddenly exploded in flames? Obama is being afforded the same courtesy given to every President-elect before him. If he wants to move his family to DC early, that's a personal decision. Until noon on Jan. 20th, Bush is POTUS, NOT OBAMA. Bush has guests and that's the end of it. You liberal whiners and your sense of entitlement disgust me. Bush has done more to aid the transition than Clinton ever did. Are we going to hear for the next 4 years why Obama always deserves a better deal than everyone before him?

There is no hotel, motel, or Holiday Inn that doesn't have a stash of rooms for VIP guests. Since the Blair House is certainly used to last minute changes, they are certainly no exception.

Come on, Blair House, this is the PEOTUS! Since children haven't been in the W.H. for ages, it is your civic duty to try to accommodate the Obamas or at least find another housing solution that will. The historic significance of this moment will not look kindly on this incident.

Who are the Bush's trying to entertain that is above the President-Elect?
Another way of milk it to the last drop. I appreciate First Lady Laura Bush, but this time, she failed the test.

who could be more important then the President. That a bunch of bunk. Had McCain won the election, they would have made the necessary adjustments. Knowing all along that this is an option for every newly elected president, shows decrimination on their behalf. The entire world knew this was an election year for anew US president. Their website specifically states that they are the guest house for the president of the united states. It should be held accountable

The village idiot and his cronies need to leave asap and let the new president get to work on straightening out this mess of a country that the current village idiot in the white house has created. Oh darn let the whole country crumble into a depression and maybe that will wake up some Americans it sure won't bother me as we never invested in the markets just real estate where you are your own CEO, board of directors, and the list goes on and on, and occasionally you have to use a toilet plunger but in the end you answer to yourself and you own it. It took Americans almost 78 years since the last great depression to realize that history always repeats it's self let it repeat it's self. Jim Hall Kansas City Missouri.

    It's Protocol.

    Traditionally...

    Historically...

Blair House is available Jan 15th for an incoming president...
previous incoming presidents, this incoming president and future incoming presidents. End of story.

And for those who are concerned for his children... a few more days in their current schools is a non-issue.

  21. Big Banks Love Rushpublicans

2 per cent of TARP is enough to bail out the auto industry and prevent a great depression, but the Rushpublicans in the Senate would rather bust the unions.
Bet you can't wait until you're paid the same as workers in Mexico and China.

Rushpublicans love banks, but hate American workers.

My husband, myself and our two kids (dog and cat also) live in an 1100sf house and yet no one can find a room in either of those two huge houses (White & Blair) for this family to stay in for a few days so the girls can start school on a reasonable schedule?

    Bush should resign now.
Then Dick Cheney becomes President (that would really tick off the liberals)

Then Cheney appoints Condoleeza Rice as VP.
