Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in.

CHICAGO (CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

I wonder if any of the visiting dignitaries staying in the Blair House are scheduled to meet with the President-Elect as part of the transition. Perhaps kicking them out to make way for the Obamas wouldn't be such a bright idea.

Gotta play by the rules. And by those, blair house is the presidents until the 15th. If they want to get their girls settled into school, (an admirable thing that any good parents would want) I am sure safe and secure accomadation can be found in the area (arlington or alexandria) prior to the 15th. What is so special about blair house anyway. Just rent a house in georgetown for a month at taxpayer expense. It is going to cost a wad of money for security and communications , where ever they stay, like for all presidential families. I hardly think a months rent, even ot 20k, is going to make a difference in the budget at this point. Why so pickey.

If you look at Blair House history, only GWB moved into the house 5 days before Inauguration. In recent history, both Reagan and Clinton were given access to the building as a residence during the transition for the entire month of January. So the Bush sycophant spouting that's "tradition" is bullshi%$#^ you, people, and most of you just lapped it up. No wonder the press can take us to Iraq without a WMD in sight. We don't even fact check the simple stuff.

What the hell is Bush celebrating and who is he inviting to celebrate with him? This has been one of the worst Presidencies in modern American history.

Furthermore, if this is a public tax-payer funded building, why can't we know whose on the guest list? Funny, how we are seeing alot of snark on this blog about Obama's arrogance for making a request that is traditionally granted to the President-elect and his family, but nary a word about the sheer sense of entitlement of the Bushes.

Hate to say it, but perhaps many are perturbed by the idea of black Americans getting access to the Presidential privileges. Hey, no one complained when Ronnie and Nance moved in the Blair House January 1 to manage the redecoration of the WH. Obama wants to move into the guest house across the street to minimize the moving around for his young daughters and the cost to tax payers (it is a more affordable option for President-elects as well by the way compared to the local luxury hotels, which is why it is usually the first choice for PEs). But somehow Obama is being arrogant and has to wait his turn. hmmm...

A responsible President would have moved his guests around to accommodate the President the American people had elected, but Bush has never been responsible with anything, least of all the Presidency.

Here, in these comments, lies he truth. If you are conservative you believe in the Constitution and the rule of law. If you are not, then you believe the democrats can do no wrong because they care so much about the "little man". Please show me one instance where they have done anything for the "little man". I have no problem with a black president, however, I do have big problems with his socialist politics but I hope this election will prove once and for all the fallacy of the racial victim mentality. They (democrats) should be given special consideration, after all they never, never lie, cheat or do wrong. We may find out in a short while that he is neck deep in the scandal unfolding in Illinois. Won't that be interesting? And, OMG, are you comparing Obama to " the son of God". President Bush did not take this country into an illegal war, period!!! Congress approved the action based on the same intelligence reports provided to President Bush. And, if you are looking for the absolute WORST president, look no further than Carter. What an intrusive, arrogant,....!!! I was serving in the Navy under Carter so I do have some perspective as well as some experience in the matter. Clinton was impeached! And lied under oath! Oh, the vast majority of those civilians killed in Iraq were not killed by Americans or our allies, they were killed by the insergent fanatics we are there to fight, you remember them. You know, the ones who hijacked commercial airliners and flew into the towers in New York and the Pentagon. Don't you ever tell anyone in this country they do not have the right to vote!!!! It is our Constitutional right even if you are liberal, at least for now!
