Obama announced his energy team Monday.

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama has selected physicist Steven Chu for the position of energy secretary.

Obama made the announcement at a news conference in Chicago Monday, calling Chu "uniquely suited to be our next secretary of energy" for his work on new and cleaner forms of energy.

Chu, who runs the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory in California, won the 1997 Nobel Prize in physics and is highly respected in energy circles.

A Mastercard or Visa can buy you a Governorship or a Senate seat... but an Energy Secretary like Chu is priceless - there are some things you can't buy with money. Like the commercial says....

It is such a tetsament to PE Obama that so many high calibre people are willing to leave their successful careers to want to be part of his team.

This is especially amazing when you read the blog comments and realize that they do so knowing the illinformed, slanderous abuse they will have to withstand!!

Congratulations Mr. Chu. Please save us from ourselves now.

Seriously, we need some bigtime help and bigtime honest, scientific answers to problems that could sink this planet for good unless we act.

You sir, are the reason I put my life on hold for the last year and a half and worked tirelessly to elect Barack Obama.

There is nothing more urgent that we could be worrying about other than the future of this fragile planet we've been entrusted with.

I'm so, so very glad that the age of unreason is ending and being replaced by the light of science and knowledge.

Take some of that 200 billion dollar budget you'll be looking after that is going toward R and D for nuclear weapons and put it into saving this planet.

I and a lot of others will continue to work with that goal in mind.

But how does picking Steven Chu affect Sara Palin's run for the presidency? Obama's palling around with Blagoveyich (or however you spell that name)? What about Joe the Plumber?

Oh No CNN, we Americans may just get too intelligent for your tabloid articles! You may have to resort to writing responsible well-thought-out articles. Are you up to it?

Has Obama ever thought about picking Dr Lee Wen Ho as his energy secretary instead of Steven Chu?

Ain't the FBI worry that an energy secretary of Chinese ancestry might sell nuclear secrets to China?

Yet another excellent Obama pick. Let the Republicans gripe about Blogojevich and trying to pin Obama to that nonsense. The rest of the country wil spend our time helping Obama and his new capable administration fix the mess this country's been in for the past 8 years.

Obama's pick for secretary of energy was just last year the co-chairman of an international panel of top energy experts, which recognized the potential for nuclear power to help solve the world's energy problems. This among many other reasons is why he is a top pick for this position. Steven Chu is a Nobel Prize-winning physicist and director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. I believe he is likely to bring a clear-eyed commitment to reducing America's dependence on foreign oil. Chu is all about and gun-ho about alternative energy. What is even better is that he has a scientfiic background and access to realistically put his and his parties ideas into practice.

All the Obama haters on this blog just don't like Obama so just say it.Civil minded people don't have to agree with his choices but they aren't ignorant about expressing it.God help you if all you have to beleive in is hate and not faith.Just remember every night when you close your eyes that everything you see in your sleep is the image of the devil. You don;t dream you only have nightmares because of all the hate you have in you,Just think if you express these thing about Obama how are you raising your children?..probably.with the same kind of hate and if so God help you.My guess is that most of the hate mongers are republicans or racist .But eat your hearts out because he will be your president on Jan.20th and there is not a d**n thing you can do about it.One thing for sure I'll bet when he visit Iraq he will not have shoes thrown at him because the people and JOURNALIST will welcome him as well as many of our foriegn countries and those who think that journalist was wrong I couldn't agree with you more but just take a moment and think about how many Iraqi men, women and children that have lost their lives in this war not to mention over 4,000 americans and almost as many wounded of course he is outraged

Here come first glimpses of our recovery. It just may be that scientists, inventors and writers/philosophers will be again higher in our society than sportsmen, models, preachers and walking money bags.

I hope Dr. Chu's DOE will align missions with NASA and DOD and go for a space-based solar power (SBSP) program for the benefit of humankind. The agencies have reviewed SBSP independently and have basically favored it. Converging vectors in technologies, costs, environment, and security have brought it closer to a business case. SBSP can align President Obama's polices in six key areas: energy, space, security, commerce, environment, and education.

Obama has done a great job of surrounding himself with scientist, they should be able to get involved in a lot of different areas, including the black hole theory, which all of them probably have an opinion,I'm sure we would like know the answers to that !!
