WOW appointing a climate czar, someone who can actually work to make policy to fix the climate mess we are in (hey folks sorry to burst your bubble but global warming isnt a lie time to take your head from the sand and fact reality!)

While I would have preferred someone with more of a scientific background I understand the need to have someone with governmental experiance in the position also since there will still be many nay sayers who are trying to make everyone believe that if we jsut DRILLDRILL DRILL everything will be alright!
This is the change we believed in! real action on a real problem!

You know.... a lot of very well qualified people were part of the Clinton administration... perhaps that is a good reason why Bill Clinton left a country in relative good condition... far better than he got it! I don't blame Obama one bit for choosing those of that group he feels is most qualified to be part of his administration!

Hide and watch.... or else buckle your seat belts! We are in for good ride... unlike the nightmare rollercoaster of the Bush Administration! We will very well see this country returned to its old glory! :)

Scott: Interesting how you people criticizing PE Obama's team always overlook the picks like Dr. Chu who were not part of the Clinton administration.

Pretty hard to pick a Republican for any of the positions announced today as so few of them believe in Science or global warming.

Why do we need these czars when every czar Obama has named already has a cabinet position responsible for the same area? Oh, I forgot, Democrat. Never have one government person do what two can.

Nice way to balance a Nobel Prize winning Energy secretary with a climate czar that is more experienced in policy making in Washington. i appreciate that balance that he is putting in play. As much as I would like to see more new people, the economy and climate situation is so bad we need more expreience to get to work right away instead a bunch of people trying to learn on the job while things fall apart.

if our pollution is causing all this change in our world, then what caused it before we invented all this stuff, there's always been change in the world, mountains come and go.

As usual Obama is thinking his way through the appointments using balance and intelligence and experience – great work President – Elect!! Thanks to all commenters who are showing their support – from all backgrounds and political views – that is what this country needs right now – not to mention the world for that matter!

For everyone who keeps whining about change? Please take two quarters and call someone who cares!

The earth has warmed in the last decade. It's not the first time it's happened and it won't be the last. We didn't cause it then and we aren't causing it now. We couldn't control it then and we can't control it now.

Funny that this being the coldest year this decade coincided with nearly an entire of year of minimal solar activity. We haven't seen this little activity in almost a decade. Amazing, right?

The number of dissenting scientist of 'man made' global warming nearly doubled last year. Actual "Scientists", not "Ex-politician turned movie maker."

Hold on a minute.... you mean to tell me that Browner is NOT a soccer mom? She is not a Cheerleader or Miss Something or Other beauty Queen? She does not judge horse shows or even dog shows? My goodness, what is Obama thinking? *LOL* Obviously, way more than Bush did! :)

After seeing Browner speak during a national youth conference called National Power Shift I was very pleased with her enthusiasm and experience. After heading the EPA and working with Al Gore she is an excellent pick to address the drastic issues of climate change and awry environmental policy that we face today. Keep up the great work President-Elect Obama!

Nice to see that the usual cast of whiners are still doing their job here..

For you guys, check out the next two posts on energy and environment and on the breaking news on education–no Clinton people. See, we now have a nice balance of experience and new ideas. So, take some time, and find the next thing you want to complain about.

Sorry, Mike, two positions is needed to fix the mess. The head of the EPA will be working full time for months just to put back the protections that Bush is getting ready to remove as a reward to his friends.

I am finding it very funny that after all these picks, that there are still Republicans out there that think Obama is the most liberal politician in recent times. He has so far proven to be a Centrist, yet the right still wants to bring the man down.

Can't we all just get along for once? give the man a chance... can't be any worse than the last 8 years...At least nobody is throwing shoes at him yet.

Wait a minute, Carol Browner wasn't Obama's college pal. How dare he appoint a qualified person instead of a crony to a important post?

(for you that don't get it, AKA Republicans, I was being ironic)

You need to do a reality check by actually looking up what the truth is,not what your hero Gore, and now Clinton and Obama is telling you.Just for starters find out what produces 18-20% of the methane gas that causes global warming ; COWS BELCHING-So what ya gonna do slaughter all cud chewing animals? How about the 500 ACTIVE VOLCANOES -what ya do ? pluggem? On and on and on

All the Republican whack-jobs out there making comments here are just too ignorant to understand scientific methods of study and drawing conclusions. No Republican theo-psycho will ever get a Science-based position in Obama's cabinet.

None of you gun-hugging bible-thumpers believe in principles like habitat carrying capacity, finite resource management, or the second law of thermodynamics. All you think you need to know is in the bible, and since the second coming is at hand there's no need to protect the environment.

    You are all quite mad.

It is good to hear Obama state that he will use the best available science on which to base his decisions. I hope he does.

Bet the Republicans won't like Chu, he probably doesn't believe the earth is only 6,000 years old. Maybe he's seen some scientific evidence? Oh yeah, science is a sham, I fogot.

He needs to make drilling in ANWAR a top priority, also build some nuclear Plants, for our energy needs.
Also we need to drill on the PACIFIC Side, and the Atlantic Side, not just in the Gulf....
