All the more reason to pay attention to what is going on in the environment. There are factors we cannot control which is why it is vitally important to address the factors that we have some control over.

    To Mike in Syracuse:
It's going to take hundreds of people working for a long time to undo what "W" has done to the environment. You Hooverites are a joke.

You didn't really try to insinuate that the we live in a world free of man made pollution...now did you?

Listen, I can accept that some people don't believe that 'global warming' is man made (I disagree with them, but there is merit to the idea that it's simply a cycle the earth goes through)...but NOBODY doubts that pollution is infinitely the bi-product of humans.

If you truly believe that "we didn't cause this stuff", then I do wonder if you would be willing to drink the water flowing into multiple rivers across the usa, and drink it from the source where the pollutants are flowing into it...because obviously we didn't cause it!! Or hey, maybe you can go grab some water in Zimbabwe and take a big huge gulp and tell us all how 'we didn't cause this".

PS: As you look down upon Los Angeles, under a haze of brown...I could tell you as I stand next to you: "That was not here before...as such, nobody ever caused it, until we were here"

    Just thinking here...

We bail out GM and the price of gas stays below $2.

They go back to making SUVs and Pickup trucks and are "doing well"

THEN... in 2012 or so, the CHINESE and INDIA start importing $5000 cars into America.

GM goes to Congress and asks for a bailout again......

    Rinse and Repeat.

Republicans know and believe that there " is" global warming contrary to what the liberal, idealistic,Democrats understand .The differences between our thinking,is, that Republicans know the reality,MOTHER NATURE RULES. Idealistic Democrats think and believe if you throw enough of the tax payers money at something it can be fixed. You need to try and think rationally, global warming started at the same time the last ice age ended. Just think about what you just read for a minute,it should make since to you.

A "climate czar". I thought we didn't endorse state sponsored religion. I am all for alternate forms of energy, but not for the same reasons as the "cough" climate czar "cough". How lame. I, along with many other notable scientists who are being smothered because of group think, wait patiently for the unsubstantiated climate hysteria to subside and will point fingers at the loons who swoon at the impending climate doom...which will never materialize. This is by far the greatest case of herd mentality ever.

    Real science about global warming:
    1. There have been 75 major temp. shifts in the last 4500 years.
    2. The earth was warmer in 1100 BC and 1300 AD (must be those chariot SUV's)
    3. The hottest period in human history was 7500-4000 years ago.
    4. Ice core samples show CO2 follows temp, not the other way around.
    5. From 1870-1990 temperature variations tracked solar wind variations. What a thought, temperature is related to the sun!
    6. All human activity accounts for .28% of the 'greenhouse' effect. 98.72% is natural.
    7. In the 1970's scientists blamed world cooling on pollution. In the 2000s scientists are blaming warming on pollution. Thems science guys is smart ain't they?
Yes, global warming is real. Yes, man makes it imperceptibly worse.

    @ sunshine

I hope you don't plan on enjoying much sunhine for very much longer if the hole in the ozone layer gets much bigger. we'll all be traipsing around in MOPP suits if we espouse the position that this is just a natural climatic cycle rather than tae a proactive role based on scientific evidence to curtail our abuse of the space in which we live and share with nature. Think of it this way: Whether you want to accept that we're at fault or not, you can still safely accept that we can do more to slow the process and help shepherd rather than abuse the planet we were given...no matter who or what power you think gave it to us.

Wait! Didn't the Clinton administration refuse to submit the Kyoto Protocol to the Senate for ratification? You know the Kyoto Protocol? That little world-wide treaty on environmental protection and climate change. And, now Obama puts Clinton's Environmental Protection Agency administrator in as our "climate czar?" Is that change? Does anyone else find this as laughable as I do?

  18. The Climate Meme

I do "believe" the earth is warming but I am not convinced by the "evidence" that it is primarily caused by man and that it is not just part of a cycle that is beyond our limited scientific understanding. I don't have qualms with paying attention to global warming but we should try and decisively conclude the actual cause and degree of seriousness before we jump on the bandwagon of what appears to be more of a trendy and fashionable yet ultimately hollow meme (Like bell bottoms), as apposed to actual defensible science (as in openess to all data and being proven wrong, etc.) I love science, but scientists and definately the general public can fall for sexy ideas that are based on biased quantitative seduction as apposed to good honest science.

I will now sit back and wait for those who are threatened by independent viewpoints to attack (who, consequently, are usually the same people who claim to be so "progressive" which is another meme for another day).

Browner is a perfect name for this lady. Since the Clinton Administration (along with Ms Browner) refused to submit to the Kyoto Protocol and begin trying to help actually clean up the environment, what happened to the skies over our cities? You guessed it, they got "Browner."

(I know, I know, bad joke, but I couldn't help myself).
