CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama has tapped Lisa Jackson, former head of New Jersey's environmental agency, to serve as his Environmental Protection Agency administrator.
He also picked Nancy Sutley, the Los Angeles deputy mayor for energy and environment, to lead the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
Sutley, a prominent supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, is the first high-ranking gay appointee to the Obama administration.
Come January, will we finally be rid of the anti-science, dogma-driven neo-tards that were appointed into office by the current idiot-in-charge who was elected into office through two profoundly tragic public mistakes?
Why do we need to know that Sutley is gay? Who really cares? That is not news. In fact, it is her private business and should not be advertised. That is offensive to advertise her private sexual selections, it should not be an issue at all. We do NOT want to know!!!
Ken,
Apparently, yes, and not a moment too soon.
Jody,
I for one am happy to know, as it is a sign of Obama's policy of inclusion. If he made it a requisite for hiring her, then that would be a problem.
Being an LA native and in my field of work being heavily involved with energy and the environment, I couldn't be happier that he chose Nancy Sutley. She is qualified by virtue of her actions in Los Angeles, and will turn solutions she found to deal with the country's most easily polluted city into solutions that will work for the entire country.
The fact that she is gay is a matter of factual trivia, but a fact that I'm glad to know and have known about Ms. Sutley.
The fact that she is gay is NO ONE'S BUSINESS. If Mr Obama, doesn't have a problem with it within his administration; then neither should anyone else. There are FAR more pressing issues that Americans are concerned with.
More progress. the clock is ticking – got to get to business soon! Glad Obama is quickly making some excellent choices I am looking forward to see how this Administration works – and how our Federal Government changes to a more progressive and transparent entity.
The 'Man-made' global warming hype is the pinnacle of 'anti-science'.
690 world renowned scientist can't all be wrong. I'll take their word over a "money hungry politician turned movie maker" anyday.
the rich get richer and the poor get poorer oh yeah i'm also a single white male with no dependants and i wish to stay that way but because i'm that way i have to pay more in taxes more for car ins. etc. i'm trying to be part of the solution dont we already have enough of our children out there having children oh and then since they cant take care of them I have to pay MORE taxes to make up for it and i can't even afford to rent a 1bed. apt.without having a roomate but the mexicans can come up here and take all the jobs for less $$ and live 6families to a 2 bed. house
Thank God we will have someone who actually cares about the environment in the EPA. Bush has tried to gut the agency.
I know Obama and his teams are doing an exceptionally thorough job in selecting appointees. I'm just surprised CNN didn't have more information about the qualifications of the appointees.
Jody, my guess is that Nancy Sutley is comfortable with who she is and that her sexual orientation is part of her public information. And my guess is that CNN felt it showed Obama's committment to unity and working together with the best and the brightest.

Why do we need to know that Sutley is gay? Who really cares? .... it should not be an issue at all.

You are correct that it shouldn't matter – and in the end, it doesn't. I think it is news because it matters to the gay community to know that they are not being overlooked simply due to sexual orientation.
Mark James Farmer: What?????
Sutley, a prominent supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, is the first high-ranking gay appointee to the Obama administration.
Sutley is the only one that has come out of the closet at this point, all of the others on the team haven't wanted us to know everything about the change that is coming after 1/20/08.
How is this relevant to being on the environmental TEAM ???
MAYBE WE NEED TO ELIMINATE SOME CABINET POSITIONS TO SAVE TAXPAYERS MONEY. YOU KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE FAVORITISM IN THIS ECONOMIC CLIMATE CAN BE. HOW MANY CZARS DOES IT TAKE TO RUN AN ANARCHIST REGIME. DIDNT KNOW THE CHOSEDED ONE NEEDED SO MUCH INPUT FOR ALL THAT PROPHESIED OUTPUT. MUST BE A UNION THANG. GUESS ROGER RIBBITT WILL BE CARTOON CZAR. PPPPPPLEEEEEASE!!
Jody, there will come a day when sexual orientation is no one's business. however, we are not there yet. mark, i agreed with everything you said until you started talking about mexicans. please don't stereotype. you're showing your ignorance.
@ KEN....... couldn't have said it better. Thanks!
HOPE TRUMPS LIES, HATE, FEAR AND DIVISION!
Young Mr Farmer.......you seem to have anger management issues, from my point of view.....
Correction: She's the first high-ranking "Openly" gay official. Check your sources, but I believe Cabinent positions are higher than the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
if sutley didn't say " I accept and I'm gay", it shouldn't be news. Give us all a break.

Just stick your head a little deeper in the sand or where ever you have it stuck because when the real change starts to hit you will be doing every thing in your power to hide from it, but you asked for it, now suffer.
This is why Obama needed to be president
If you're qualified turn your resume in to Obama, until then shut up.
Actually, Kona they do say "in the Obama administration", not the first of all time. If you are referring to J. Edgar, I'm not certain who is a higher ranking appointee.
Please explain what this person's sexual orientation has to do with ANYTHING? That last sentence only feeds the perception that it is a meaningful criteria for judging this person's qualification and appropriateness for the position. Until we learn to focus on content to the exclusion of all else...race, color, religion, sexual orientation...we're just fooling ourselves that we've made progress. DON'T FEED THE USE OF MEANINGLESS DISTINCTIONS BY PRETENDING THEY'RE IMPORTANT. It should be entirely outside the discussion.
itsonnow... and what are YOU on now?!~
Oh, come on.... do we really have to know the sexual preferences of all our politicians? Or is it only the Gays? I'm confused.... What about cross dressers, bisexuals.... what what... are you going to label everyone by their sexual preferences.... *heavy sigh*
