Obama to announce energy posts as Blagojevich questions linger

President-elect Barack Obama will meet Monday with his national security team.
President-elect Barack Obama will meet Monday with his national security team.

(CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama is expected to announce key members of his energy team Monday as questions linger and media attention remains on the scandal involving Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Obama likely is to name Steven Chu, a physicist who runs the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, as his energy secretary, three Democratic officials close to the transition team said last week.

Chu won the 1997 Nobel Prize in physics and is highly respected in energy circles.

This is a disgrace. We need to drop everything as a nation and address this issue at once. We need to stop the drafting of a new economic plan, put a hold on any further action in Iraq and Afghanistan, stop putting together an aid package for Americans who have lost their homes, stop the auto bailout, stop drafting an energy plan and put everything on hold while we take the time to find out which one of Obama's administration may have known someone who knew someone who knew someone's cousin who may have known what Blagojevich was up to. We cannot allow our nation to move forward until we know for sure that Obama did not know someone who knew someone who knew someone's cousin that might have stood in the same room with someone who had something to do with this scandal. The very life of the nation depends on this. No other priority is worth addressing right now. I recommend a 40 million dollar Congressional investigation be put into action immediately and that no less than 2 years be used to investigate this disgrace, which is undoubtedly worse than 9/11, Watergate, Iran Contra, and the Teapot Dome scandal combined. Please save our desperate land!

it's interesting how, just like Clinton, any utterance against a Democratic president is a "right-wing conspiracy", yet it's been an hourly barrage against the current president using anything and everything in a negative light towards him. I'm not defending the current admin, but you also can't turn a blind eye to possible nefarious connections...maybe not directly to Obama but to people close to him. This stuff does matter; this guy is not Jesus, he's a politician and as such should be trusted just as much as the next one.

Your headline is midleading but the text in the first paragraph is basically correct: "as questions linger and media attention remains on the scandal involving Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich." It's is the media - not the American people, aside from a few hardline republicans - for whom any questions linger. It's the media whose attention is glued to Blagojevich and CNN who tries to suggest a nefarious connection between Blago and Obama.

Hey, Bush & Company are refusing to give Obama information regarding torture among other things. What are they hiding??? They lied us into a war & it barely gets mentioned??? Why isn't the media concerned about things that actually matter??? Like the economy???

The only question that lingers is why wasn't the press and media half this dogged in answering lingering questions of the Bush administration of which we are still waiting for answers after eight very long years?

Move on media! Give Obama a chance to be sworn into office in January. If this corrupt Governor is such a problem in Illinois, then GET RID OF HIM! This country has far more important issues to be concerned with at present.

Obama is not know for waiting for the facts, he is known for not making a decision until the public polls are out and he can make the most popular one or none at all, not the best decision. Just look at his voting record for "present".

I doubt Obama is in any way involved in anything underhanded as he is sure to be properly insulated from the mess now. It could be some of the staffers or advisors have some dirty hands right now.

"Questions linger"? Only because the scandal-hungry media and the sore-loser Republicans are desperate to find something - anything, no matter how farfetched - to tarnish Obama with.

It must be frustrating, you haters and muckrakers, to be faced with a man of principle who doesn't give you anything to work with, eh?

CNN is not becoming faux news – CNN IS faux news. You have become little more than a sensationalist news magazine show, but the all time worst is the poor excuse for a "truth" reporter you have in Campbell Brown. What a joke!

THE ONLY QUESTION THAT LINGERS IN OUR MIND

IS HOW IS OUR NEW PRESIDENT GOING TO FIND A

WAY TO FEED OUR CHILDREN. WE COULDN'T CARE LESS

ABOUT SOME MENTALLY ILL GOVERNOR & HIS SCUMBAGS.

Thank you President Elect Obama! Your cabinet choices have been beyond reproach as evidenced by the lack of media coverage. Of course since your choices are so on point the news day is kind of slow so we have to contend with the Blagojevich mess. Which should not have even made front page news. Regardless, keep making the moves you are making and eventually the idiots that be will come to understand that this Democracy will be better off than it is now.

OK. I'll say it one more time. OBAMA IS NOT IMPLICATED IN THE BLAGOJEVICH CASE! Aren't reporters supposed to report the news, instead of just making it up? What happened to journalistic integrity?

This is a case of "guilt by being from the same state" and nothing more.

To tell you the truth, I live accross the country from Illinois and could care less about Blagojevich. I do, however, care about Obama's appointment to the national health posts (which was completely ignored by the media last week) and the national energy posts (which will be ignored this week).

Our country is in trouble. Stop trying to out-sensationalize the tabloids and start reporting the news, please.

I can still remember the good old days when cnn reported the news. Now we are forced to listen to opinions of Lou Dobbs & Campbell Brown and the like as they create the news.

".....as questions linger and media attention remains on the scandal involving Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich."

Here's the crux of it folks, the MEDIA is driving this story into the ground.

Shame on you, CNN! You are "creating" a situation that doesn't exist, trying to drag Obama and his camp into the Blagojevich situation.

Why do you do this? You are stirring a pot of discontent that has nothing in it to stir.

The media is responsible for alot of the problems we have "brought to our attention," but they usually aren't problems. They BECOME problems.

CNN won't publish this, you can be sure.......

I voted for Reagan but suck it up right-wing/religious/gun-clinging losers!

Proper legal investigation takes time. When you ask anyone to comment or provide details (that you have no clues of its existence) on something that is under investigation reveals your stupidity! And you know what they say about dumb people...

"The problem with dumb people is that they don't know they are dumb!"

At least Obama doesn't give stupid excuses like "Due to national security, we can't..."

Religious/gun-clinging losers, keep clinging & touching yourselves! You'll feel better the next 8 years!

The Republicants are at it again! Anything negative under the sun that happens is somehow tied to Obama. They need to get over themselves & leave Obama alone. These people are so full of hate for anything & anyone who is not white, old, a man and a Republicant. They hate to lose! They show everyday just how much they are a bunch of idiots!

I am more interested in the Energy dept head for Obama then hearing anymore about the Gov of ILL.

He needs to step down and face the judge etc.

Lets deal with Obama's transition team CNN enough.
Their is alot of other non-reported news you can talk about.
