Cheney is praising Obama's new national security team.
Cheney is praising Obama's new national security team.

(CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama's national security team got an endorsement from an unlikely source Monday: Vice President Dick Cheney.

In an interview with ABC News, Cheney called the team - to be headed by Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton, National Security adviser Gen. Jim Jones, and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates - "pretty good."

"I must say, I think it's a pretty good team," Cheney said in an interview that aired Tuesday morning. "I think the idea of keeping Gates at Defense is excellent. I think Jim Jones will be very, very effective as the national security adviser."

"While I would not have hired Sen. Clinton, I think she's tough," he also said of Obama's choice for secretary of state. "She's smart, she works very hard and she may turn out to be just what President Obama needs."

The comments come a day after Arizona Sen. John McCain also offered kind words for Obama's national security team, saying it was a group of people he may have chosen himself.

But the seeming praise from high-profile Republicans over Obama's national security team could further rile members of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party - the demographic that strongly supported Obama's candidacy throughout the prolonged Democratic primaries.

"Some on the left say, 'Wait a minute - we voted for change,'" CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider said.

Well, I wouldn't pick Hillary as Secretary of State because she is a 'war hawk'. She better be careful what she says to the world. Heck, if he wants to give her a post, how about something related to the 'economy'. Things go well under the Clintons as they said. But it's just one poor pick among the many good picks. I would say she is tough, but she is not diplomatic. For this position, you need someone w/ good diplomatic skills. I just pray she doesn't mess things up for Obama.

David   December 16th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

THANK GOD FOR THIS ENDORSEMENT. I WAS SO TOTALLY ON THE FENCE ABOUT CLINTON. SO, THE APPROVAL OF A MAN WITH SUCH STELLAR JUDGEMENT & CHARACTER CINCHES IT FOR ME.

Old Man   December 16th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

If anyone is surprised – read up on the history and development of the science of Public Relations. We ("the public") are just under new management. Obama is a Trojan Horse made of hope.

@ sunshine

Actually, he looks pretty stupid at this point no matter what he says.

Bill   December 16th, 2008 11:59 am ET

And this is newsworthy why? I really think CNN should follow the Detroit newspaper's lead and cut back its news coverage if non-stories like this is all they have to report on. I'm getting kind of tired of hearing what every little person thinks of Obama and his team. Let the man go in and do his job, and report on that, because, unlike this stuff, it will actually be newsworthy.

Phoenix   December 16th, 2008 11:58 am ET

I'm sorry, I'm so sick of the media pretending like Obama is so liberal. He is a black man. Despite popular opinion, most blacks are very conservative. Listen to Obama's statements, and his policy issues. He successfully ran on a traditional Republican platform, that is why he was able to run as a moderate candidate. If Liberals are looking for their usual handout they should have stayed with a more "traditional candidate."

liz   December 16th, 2008 11:58 am ET

Who cares what this EVIL man thinks? He has destroyed the country while lining the pockets of his friends and coincidentally his own pension, at the expense of millions of lives ruined here and in Iraq.

This man should be in JAIL, not being interviewed by CNN.

Please Cheney, let the door hit you on the way out.

CHENEY NEEDS TO LOSE THAT PERMANENT SNEER HE WEARS.

WORST VICE-PRESIDENT EVER!

Where are my shoes?

Lock Cheney Up?   December 16th, 2008 11:58 am ET

If you far-left liberals put Dubya and Cheney in jail for trying (and failing) to run this country well, you will start a war. I am a moderate democrat and I think that it is absolute nonsense to think that Bush or Cheney did this crap for their own benefit. Who would WANT to have 80% of the country hate them. Not even evil Nancy Pelosi WANTS to be hated.
Anyway, I will take up arms if the over-the-top liberals try to put them in jail for "trying" to run the country.
Nancy, you have been so devoted to your party these last 6 years that you forgot about your country. We need new democratic leadership more like Obama and less like evil Nancy.
Obama isn't God, but he's so level headed. He knows how to work with people unlike Nancy.

dave   December 16th, 2008 11:57 am ET

adam:

I can understand if Congress isn't your favorite organization, but to say it is "the most corrupt, useless organization in existence" is a bit extreme. That's the kind of hyperbolae laden, extreme thinking that is not productive to rational discourse.

And the trite comment "So hate the American invasion all you want, but now you can throw shoes," is childish beyond belief. I seriously doubt you or anyone you care about would consider throwing shoes much compensation for living in an occupied war torn country where every day people fear they might face random death. Choosing shoe throwing over basic security for your life is insane, and you make it clear which side of the line you stand on when you say such an insipid thing, whether you realize it or not.

Alan   December 16th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Yep, this some change we voted for. I for one am very disappointed in all of the Clinton officials and other insiders. This is not what we were led to believe during the election.

You would think that out of 300 million people we could have found at least one honest candidate. But we now have just another liar.

Corey Simmonds   December 16th, 2008 11:52 am ET

I question the notion that an endorsement from high profile Republicans would make liberals angry. We voted for change, yes, but that doesn't mean we want Obama to change the policy of executives picking those they deem most qualified for a given position within their administration. Obama has done nothing more than that, and the endorsements from the other side not only help reinforce the idea that these individuals will do a good job but may also help to fulfill another promise Obama made, and that's to take steps to close the monumental rift that has formed between the left and the right.

Brian, NJ   December 16th, 2008 11:52 am ET

I'm on the left… and I'm not saying anything. This is what separates progressives from conservatives – we care about results first and foremost. As long as it's good for the country, it doesn't have to follow any left-wing ideological template. We trust Obama to do the right thing, and make corrections if his initial decisions go wrong. That's leadership.

I think some of Cheney's remarks are good for the Republicans to see they shouldn't be so divided.

Obama IS change...intelligent people on his staff for a change.

I am very happy with Obama's choices. No one he has picked are "yes men"...all are strong personalities and quite qualified...that's the most important thing and wise.

I'm excited about the new administration. People who will work hard to get things done instead of letting all the lobbyists and die-hard Republican ideologies act stupid.

adam   December 16th, 2008 11:30 am ET

Okay, enough. If you didn't like Cheney or Bush, you don't have to worry about it anymore.

It's madness to think, though, that ANY President can affect real change with Congress standing in the way. No matter what his/her political leanings, the President will always be hampered by the most corrupt, useless organization in existence. It doesn't even matter that it's a Democrat controlled Congress. They don't represent the people or their best interests. They represent SPECIAL interests...each and everyone of them.

Oh, and by the way, sympathy for the shoe-thrower's arrest aside, what would have happened to that guy if he had thrown a shoe at Hussein? So hate the American invasion all you want, but now you can throw shoes.

Let's get this straight. The way a president operates and conducts his administration is the change I voted for. And so far Obama is putting together a top-notch team; people who are intelligent, people who believe in science, people who will stand there and say "Wait a minute – let's think about this before we react blindly." CHANGE IS ON THE WAY, SO THE EXTREME LIBERAL LEFT NEEDS TO PIPE DOWN AND SHUT UP!

From the very beginning Obama was something different. Initially, I had no plans to vote for him. But as time past and as we watched Obama and his campaign team successfully & effortlessly hurdle "multiple campaign-ending obstacles"; we Independents, Moderates, and GOP-skewed Progressives made the switch to Obama-Biden for CHANGE and ONE AMERICA. So the extreme-liberal Left needs to understand Obama-Biden are in the White House but not strictly from the support of the Left. Obama-Biden received significant support from Independents and GOP -Progressives scared out of their wits of Sarah Palin being a heartbeat away from POTUS.

Just keep moving into the poor urban areas so you can feel good about yourself and get robbed. Too all of those who wasted 600 million to bring BHO into the white house... you wasted your money. You get nothing you want. Just Obama leading moderates...no liberals. Hahaha you guys lose

Jayson   December 16th, 2008 11:23 am ET

For crying out loud, smarten up people! The "change" that Obama advocates is a change in the *way* things are done, which is determined by the President who sets the agenda. Achieving that "change" does not require that smart, talented people who are good at what they do be discarded in favor of newbies, simply because they've been around Washington for a while.

PE Obama never ran as a left leaning Democrat...that was the Koolaide the Republicans were trying to sell.

From his speech at the 2004 convention to his final ones in his SUCCESSFUL campaign he spoke of ONE America, reaching across the aisle, bringing stakeholders together and reaching consensus/compromise.

The Republicans and the naysayers are the ones who don't get it...American voters spoke and they like his cabinet picks and they want things done!!

To all you Bush/Cheney bashers, yeah you, the kook koolaid drinkers who go on about how they are crooks, criminals, should be in prison, how many times has the United States been attacked since 9/11? Why don't you ask an Iraqi woman who lived in fear before 2002 how she feels now (no, ask a real one, not some stooge your media makes up) – wait, no that's right, women only matter to you if they support your ideas (right Sarah Palin).

And hold on, Barry, The Messiah, The Most Holiest of Holies Obama, spent his campaign bashing the Bush policies and saying how bad the war was, but now that he's gonna be running the show, he's keeping the same people Bush had in the key military positions, and backing off some of his earlier rants. Could it be that when he actually sat in on an intelligence meeting he realized that things were not quite what the libs, kooks, MSNBC, and groups like Code Pink screamed they were? I'm sure you freaks would like to continue living in your fantasy world where everyone plays nice together if they just put down their guns, but maybe, just maybe Barry got a taste of what the grown up world is really like.

But, give him time. Once you all get through to him and remind him that he sold his soul to your special interests he'll go back to being your puppet.

Real change won't start until 2010, when the Republicans gain back control of Congress, and then continue in 2012 when this joker is voted out and America finally accepts you all for the irrelevant kooks you really are.

We have a new administration coming in...the vote is a done deal....so let's get over the "bashing" and hope for a better day for the next 4 years. It doesn't do anything good to keep up the hate talk about what happened, didn't happen, who did it, who didn't do it, etc. We need to get back to our own real lives and hope for better days to come in the next 4 years. those 4 years haven't happened yet, so there's nothing to say about them at this point.

Hillary clinton as Secretary of State IS a BIG CHANGE from this guy and all his friends! He said so himself ("I would not have hired Senator Clinton")!

When he defends torture, he breaks the law. When he outs CIA agents for political purposes, he breaks the law. And there is so much other stuff that we don't know about because of his secretive nature... which in and of itself may have broken the law.

Cheney must believe that he is somehow above "the law", whatever that means to him. I live with the hope that someday soon he awakes to a knock on the door by a special prosecutor. Then maybe he will begin to understand the meaning of the term "democracy"! Until then, we live in a society where the very powerful get away with "murder"!

Barack Obama's cabinet picks so far DO represent Change...for once, we have a president who isn't into pandering to the extremes of ideology and politics...instead, Obama has decided to pick people who he thinks will bring ideas to the table (even if they don't match his own way of thinking).

The far left were never his base. I voted for him because he represented pragmatic change, instead of putting "the screws" to everyone on the far right.

Barack has shown himself to be more of a centrist...and that's a BIG change after the past 8 years. It's change I can believe in.

Change doesn't mean changing everything. An intelligent person recognizes areas that require change and those where change is not needed.
By recognizing that bi-partisanship is critical to his success he is making wise decisions by ruffling the feathers of the liberal left and choosing extremely qualified individuals from both sides of the aisle to work in his cabinet.
Had he replaced everyone with extremely liberal Democrats he would have proven that he had neither the experience nor the qualifications, much less the intelligence, for the highest position in the world.
His choices so far are right on and I think the real change will only come when the partisan politics of the past are abolished. He will only be able to do this with support from Republicans and without appeasing them they will never support him or his policies.

To see the vitriolic hatred for Cheney is extremely disappointing. While it’s perfectly OK to disagree with him on policy issues, it doesn’t reflect well for our country as a whole to demonize a public servant in the same manner that narcissistic over indulged spoiled high school brats would demonize their principal because they didn’t get their way. Could it possibly be that maybe we as an electorate need to change or better yet, grow up and let go of the ultra partisan mentality and give our public servants the benefit of the doubt. As a county, we really need to move on as well as let go of un-substantiated propaganda that only tears us apart

Liberal and Proud of It   December 16th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Let us not forget that only four short years ago, America gave the Bush-Cheney administration a big vote of confidence. I suspect that many of those who are now very critical of Bush and Cheney also voted for them. I read that although only 49% of those who voted in 1969 actually voted for Kennedy, over 60% of those who were surveyed now remember voting for him.

I laugh in the liberal people's faces... more more more of Obama's choices seem to be center and i'm fine with that.

Change? I guess asking a asian educator as energy head is a good idea... if only he's good at leading. He may be a noble prize winner but he may not be a great leader. He may be a innovator... he would need a good team to support him cause he's not really that great at leading but i guess we'll find out soon enough.

Joan , Ontario   December 16th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Obama ran on a change platform and that is exactly what he is doing. His policies are so different from George Bush and Dick Cheney. The policy of change comes from the top and he makes the decisions. Also, he is putting in the best calibre people to bring this change about. He is not picking yes-men though which shows his strength and confidence. Why don't the critics use their time positively to help the country?

Who gives a whip what the far Left or Right think. What america is in dire need of is a pragmatic leader.

Energy independance, Health Care reform, sensible stock market regulation and tough diplomacy are what any clear thinking american should want.

This country has been compromised by years of hard right & left ideology. It's time for common sense. I too have reservations but so far Obama's on the right track.

lou   December 16th, 2008 10:55 am ET

Kim: Since we are a centrist country, how come the last eight years have been so far to the right, the earth shifted on its axis? You do not want the far left to reign, but it was okay for the far right? I mean no offense. We haven't been in the center politically for years. At least Obama is trying to stay somewhat diversified in his administration. Not everyone can expect to be happy over all his choices, but Bush never gave a darn about people who leaned even a little to the left. Bush's personal agenda was all that mattered to him and those who voted for him. I think Obama will do an excellent job. Even though I never liked Cheney, I am encouraged that he finds some good in Obama"s picks. Though we will always have different philosophies, that is not necessarily a bad thing for a true centrist at heart. Give and take.

"But the seeming praise from high-profile Republicans over Obama's national security team could further rile members of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party — the demographic that strongly supported Obama's candidacy throughout the prolonged Democratic primaries.

"Some on the left say, 'Wait a minute — we voted for change,'" CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider said."

Oh, shut up, shut up, SHUT UP your media clowns! Stop trying to stir up outrage and divisions where not exist. We on the LIBERAL WING are quite PLEASED that the new administration is staffing positions with smart, competent, GOOD GOVERNMENT people.

DavidinCA   December 16th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Here's the most ironic part of the story;
Obama digs deep into the bowels of Washington and picks BIDEN as his VP and the Democrats on the left still think they voted for CHANGE?!!?! oops, they've been fooled again!

This has nothing to do with whether or not the Republicans actually "like" the people being selected, though I genuinely believe they feel the selected individuals are strong and will do a good job. It's all about Americans supporting their fellow Americans as a sign of solidarity to the rest of the world. What we are seeing is very appropriate and should be commended, not second guessed.

Dick Cheney, Bush, Rove, Rice, Gonzales, Rumsfeldt...all need to go to prison for treason against America! They are crooks and the only reason they were SELECTED twice was because they instilled RELIGIOUS fear with certain Americans who are bigoted full of hate just like them..... Go away Cheney....!!!!

I'm on the left... and I'm not saying anything. This is what separates progressives from conservatives – we care about results first and foremost. As long as it's good for the country, it doesn't have to follow any left-wing ideological template. We trust Obama to do the right thing, and make corrections if his initial decisions go wrong. That's leadership.

Repubs (the bitter ones) can sit on the sidelines and comment all they want....just remember that CHANGE may have to be put on hold, because Obama has to spend a considerable amount of time cleaning up the mess your people just made. It is ok to throw darts of sarcastic/bitter comments, & insults, but just remember what a huge obstacle the incoming administration is up against. Bush went in there with a surplus and look what he did in 8 years. Take time to think about it!!!!!!

All of us (Dems & Repubs) have to be realistic. Obama had an optimistic message of change, but none of us could see the melt down that we are having now in the distance. The change that Obama highlighted/promised will not come overnight. We all have to be patient and ignore the ignorance on the naysayers.

The best part of this Christmas is knowing the new year will bring in an administration that cares about its' people and not self serving warmongers like we have now.
Cheney, no one cares a bit what you think. Go back to Halliburton and collect the hundreds of millions of dollars you have made during your past 8 years. I can't imagine how you and your sidekick, Bush, will ever be able to live with yourself after you both leave office.

Mitchell from MS, you can try to blame the democratic congress all you want for the poor economy, but the majority of people understand it is the republican senate that is choosing politics over the good of the country. They have abused the power of filibuster and have essentially shut down our government. There is a reason they lost 5 seats this year. I can't wait for 2010 when democrats can reach 60 seats and actually get something done.

I also want to give props to the Republican Senators who are on their way out of office, like Sen. Wayne Allard, that refuse to accept emails or answer phone calls. Way to represent your constituents and serve your country.

Kevin in Ohio   December 16th, 2008 10:47 am ET

To all the left-wing hatemongers out there..... give it a rest! Dick Cheney is a good decent man that has been wrong villified by the press and the left. He has never done anything illegal..... you just can't stand his toughness and directness. And I seriously doubt such a vile person would say anything nice at all about the opposition party..... I certainly have heard NOTHING nice or polite from the Obama side. Look in the mirror if you want to see what true evil is.

an84u   December 16th, 2008 10:47 am ET

When will this sour mouthed sob go away? From one who's ruined our beloved country with his tripe, I think his advice should be avoided and treated like crap in a sewer before it's permitted to surface. He's a well-poisoner for sure who should be in prison for the rest of his life.

pam Eugene OR   December 16th, 2008 10:47 am ET

I saw the interview and was very surprised when Cheney openly and proudly said he ok'd using all forms of torture. He said it was the right thing to do and he would do it again. This man is evil and has done serious damage to this country. He is the reason so much of the world hates America. Cheney needs to be in prison and he should have the cell next to Bush.
So, it does not matter what he says about anything because he will soon be a convicted felon.

Robin in SC   December 16th, 2008 10:47 am ET

In a country divided, does it not make sense to govern from the middle and surround yourself with intelligent, capable people regardless of where they may fit on the political bell curve? As others have said, I'm glad to see competence in the highest offices in the country and believe Obama is doing a remarkable job of putting his cabinet together, recruiting the best people out there to create a team much superior to any we've seen in recent past. If Cheney approves, so what...if he didn't, so what...if the left wing or right wing extremists do not approve, then he must be doing something right!

Renae   December 16th, 2008 10:47 am ET

I can't beieve Cheney can even show his face in public, much less give an interview. He better savor it while he can...his time (thank God!) is almost up. I find it ridiculous that they tried to impeach Clinton over a BJ, but conspiracy, torture, and abuse of power has been A-OK for 8 years with NO CONSEQUENCES in the Bush-Cheney administration. My biggest disappointment in Obama so far is his lack of intention to hold the current administration accountable for their misdeeds and to seek justice. In order to set this country right, we need to expose all that went wrong.

God has truly blessed America now that the Republican's are on the way out. And I do hope the door hits them in the behind as it swings shut behind them. They deserve it and so much worse.

No really, it was Bush that needed Cheney and Cheney needed Bush. Cheney needed Bush to be the point man, the president while he, Cheney directed policy without taking the responsibility of those actions; Bush needed Cheney because he is incompetient but wanted to be President like a kid wants a toy. Bush also needed Cheney in order to avoid impeachment. The fact is the only reason Bush was never impeached is because we would have been stuck then with Cheney. Its bad enough darth vader was holding the puppet strings OMG if he actually had the power of the pen.. the havoc.

Cheney will be remembered as America's Cardinal Richelieu, as opposed to Bush's Louis XIII. The whole episode will also be remembered as showing the constitutional wisdom of term limits. Richelieu had an entire lifetime to spin his webs, but Cheney's freedom of action was cut off after eight years. Or as long as I'm spinning analogies, Cheney as Shakespeare's Richard III? In any case, he'll be remembered as the scheming, manipulative individual who saw power as everything and the rule of law as an impediment. Thank goodness he's being shown to the door.

What makes everyone think that President-Elect Obama's cabinet does not represent change. I am certain that President-Elect Obama selected these individuals because they do have new and innovative ideas they would like to put forth and try to implement. As we all know under the Bush Administration, it was such an authoritative controlled environment where new ideas and innovation from these people President-Elect Obama have selected were not able to do anything. Hell, like President Bush's favorite line says, "So what!" with the shoulder gesture.

No. Not really. We voted for change in the sense that we're tired of seeing our country flushed down the toilet. We voted for Obama. And if these are his picks, they deserve the chance to try to make that change.

Some people wouldn't know change if it bit them in the face. We are seeing/experincing change. And we will see change where it counts, not in the faces but in the policies that those familliar faces put forth.

That Other Jerry   December 16th, 2008 10:26 am ET

Obama will have plenty of opportunities to appease the liberal base, the center left, the kook fringe, and whomever else decides to whine the most on any given day. National security in the 21st century is no place for those who want to sit around and sing Kum Ba Yah with our enemies. If you don't believe it, take a trip to New York and try to find the elevator for the WTC.

barbara campbell   December 16th, 2008 10:25 am ET

CNN and Bill Schneider need to stick to reporting the news, not creating it and not trying to foment more divisiveness. Obama promised that his policies would be different from Bush's, not that he would reject the qualified people who could help further his agenda – just because they have Washington experience.

Obama also promised to try to unify the country and improve America's international reputation. This is best accomplished by choosing a team that is respected by both Democrats and Republicans alike.

Try a little substance, CNN.

M. Taylor   December 16th, 2008 10:25 am ET

All of this critizism from the left about Cheney saying that he approves of Hussein Obama's cabinet picks? Are the liberals never happy? If it not for President Bush and VP Cheney's moral, ethical and biblical decisions for this country over the past 8 years, we would not be as secure as we are now. Those of you that complain of President Bush's decisions need to read the Bible and then you will look at President Bush and VP Chaney in another light. By the way, the Bible can be found on-line, in book stores and of course in church. Hussein Obama cannot even take the time to find a church in the D.C. area, what does that tell you about him? He does not have Jerimiah Wright to tell him which church to attend perhaps? It will all come out in the wash.

Christopher   December 16th, 2008 10:25 am ET

While I think Cheney is a crook I have to admit that I have always though that he was utterly brilliant. Still doesnt change the fact that he is courrupt. Never the less he comments are on point. I just dont like him since becomming VP.

When Cheney speaks I see a serpent. He manipulated and scared the very people who gave him a 2nd term. Now he has an opinion about the new administration, thanks Dick, but no thanks!

I am praying for God to remove the anger I have for Dick Cheney.

Great team and I am glad the Republicans are starting out with a positive response. Obama is still the man in charge and the left needs to relax a bit. National security shouldn't be as wildly partisan as it has been.

I am very happy with the selections Obama has made for his administration thus far. He is surrounding himself with experienced, capable, intelligent people and the CHANGE will come from the top. The far left needs to relax and let things settle before freaking out. Obama has always said he will reach across the aisle and he is doing just that.

Remember competence is CHANGE! We have had 8 years of the keystone cops – WMD, AL-Qaida behind every tree, tax cuts to keep the economy going, if you want to help your country go out and buy Chinese products, buy a home you can't afford, don't tax gasoline – the terrorists need our money, etc.

John in Virginia   December 16th, 2008 10:20 am ET

Cheney, what a waste of air…. anyone would have been better than him. He has absolutely NOT served the American people. A poor President picked a poor, useless Vice-President. I really sympathize with the reporter who threw his shoe at the President. I can totally understand the reporters frustration with President Bush and the invasion of his country. Although I am an American citizen, I feel violated that we Americans elected President Bush, not once but twice. We were lied to and violate in the worst way possible. I think the Iraqi officials should let the reporter go with a good tongue lashing and nothing else. Glenn Doty, Columbia, SC   December 16th, 2008 10:15 am ET

As for the "far left wing" that endorsed him... I don't know a single person that is upset with him thus far. I've been sending what little money I could afford (in very small quantities of 5-20 dollars at a time) since June. I am one of Obama's more adamant supporters, and many of my friends are far more zealous supporters than I.

Many of my friends are far more left leaning than I as well. None of us expected a bunch of hippies calling for the complete dismantling of the armed services.

The goal is to have a foreign policy that is conducted civilly, without the sense that baring the blade is the first and last option. We have that.

The fact that the people chosen are knowlegeable and competent doesn't offend anyone.

If CNN claims that "far left" people are upset, they should find one of these idiots and quote him/her... But I've never met such a person, and I'm from the left.

Get over it CNN. Contrary to your support of the republicans the American people voted in Barack Obama and he will do his best to undo all the diasters of these last eight years.

I'm a registered Democrat and have been a member of MoveOn.org since it started. That should be enough to give me liberal cred. I have been an ardent supporter of President-elect Obama since he announced he was running. He has said repeatedly that change will come from how he leads. The same team with different coaches will have different results. We have numerous examples of the disastrous results of bringing political neophytes into the White House/government. I love that he has chosen smart, experienced, diverse people together to move the country in a new direction. What a relief from the neo-con Bush years to have a smart president that's not ideological but pragmatic and a unifier. What needs to be done and who are the best people to do it appears to be his guiding principle. He hasn't even been sworn in yet and people in the wings–right and left–are already complaining. Roll up your sleeves and get to work. We are so challenged on so many fronts that we need to pull together to work for the change we want. As Gandhi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

First of all the republicans are playing kiss, kiss, nice, nice right now because they know their party is in big trouble with voters. But, I think the media are the ones who are making a big stink about the liberal left being upset with Obama's picks. Where are you getting this info. This is all reported as anonymous info and no foundation. I am one of the liberal left who voted for Obama for change and I can tell you, it was not so that he could bring in all inexperienced people (like "Brownie" at FEMA). I believe that Obama's leadership will decide on the direction his cabinet members take and I believe he is a strong leader. If you're going to create waves in the media, give some facts to back it up please.

I love how the sheep following Obama love to tell those that don't agree with themselves to "think for yourselves"...

I love how Obama thinks that we have 58 states...

I love how the "wise" constantly make themselves look foolish...

I love how "change" looks a lot like the same...

I fear that America has begun an irrevocable descent from greatness toward mediocrity and irrelevance...

Salil   December 16th, 2008 10:03 am ET

Obama has moved rapidly towards the center, and seemingly abandoned some of the campaign platforms that were most disconcerting for those who voted against him. He's apparently come to his senses on Iraq, the economy (letting the Bush tax cuts expire naturally), and his job creation plans are solid, almost, dare I say it, Keynesian in nature. I applaud his efforts to use private enterprise to stimulate the economy, as opposed to socialistic wealth redistribution and nationalization of industry. Now, if he gets on board and uses the same mentality regarding Health Care reform (finding private market solutions, like incenting Americans to lose weight and get healthy through tax breaks to insurance companies who have transparent and common sense policies), he may find a whole new set of voters in 2012. I'd like to see some honesty though – as in a vocalized and clear rejection of the radical left that it seems he clearly manipulated to get here.

let the far left nuts take a dive, this country is moving forward, they can get on board or continue to be a bunch of idiots. You cannot just have a bunch of liberal nuts running the country, we are a center country and you have to run the country from the middle. I am not an Obama fan, I did not vote for him, but he is our President and I am willing to give him a chance. I am happy with his choices, maybe in 4 years I will be ready to vote for him, but everyone deserves a chance. The nuts need to let it go.

Hey, once you are elected, campaign promises go out the window. Now, you have to do what you think is right for the country (or what will get you elected to a second term).
