White House press secretary sports black eye

Perino joked reporters are no longer able to wear shoes to press conferences.

(CNN) – Who knew being White House press secretary was such a dangerous job?

While President Bush emerged from the weekend's now-infamous shoe attack in Iraq without a scratch, press secretary Dana Perino appears to be a little worse for wear.

Perino was sitting to the side of the president when an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at him Sunday.  She was inadvertently hit by a microphone as the president's Secret Service agents responded and officials scrambled to wrestle the journalist to the ground.

The full effects of the accident were clear at Tuesday's White House daily briefing, where Perino sported a bruise below her right eye and scratch just above the eyebrow.

"The shoe check-in and check-out policy will begin tomorrow," Perino joked.

A metaphor for the entire debacle of the Bush years–needless deaths, wasted money. History should not be kind to those idiots.

I can certainly understand why the man threw his shoes! From my American vewpoint the war in Iraq is the biggest mistake this country has ever made. It made us hugely despised throughout the world, created thousands upon thousands of new terrorists, created the biggest deficit in history, and involved us in the middle east where there has been wars for thousands of years and always will be. It made us very much less safe. If congress was doing it's job Bush and all his cabinet would have been impeached and tried for treason long ago. Bush will surely go down in history as the single most destructive thing that ever happened to this country. This year I voted straight republican but I never voted for Bush so I share no blame.

Under Saadam Hussein's regime the punishment would be to cut off his feet for throwing the shoes, cut out his tongue for calling him names, and breaking his hands and arms for making obscene gestures. If he wants the old Saadam eutopia days again, I think we should give it to him.

Do you realy think the boy who threw the shoe would have done it under saddam? He ought to get on his knees and praise his GOD that he is alive and NOT dead. The War is not perfect, but in time they will be better off.
Atleast, he will be alive and have a good book deal.

How was it possible for this shoe-thrower to get off his shoes and aim them at the POTUS?

I'm thankful that the POTUS was able to dodge these projectiles; but what were the Secret Service agents doing while this guy was preparing to throw the second shoe? Once the first one flew toward the President, why didn't they shield him?

I think it is appalling that the Secret Service did not totally protect the President! They are suppose to be watching out for him....aren't they!

This may seem amusing to some folks; but it looks like negligence to me. Subduing an aggressor after the second shoe flew is inexcusable!

I am as much a critic of Bush and his policies as 70 % of this country, but the shoe throwing was not cool at all. Whether you like Bush or Dana doesn't matter, but the incident and the black eye is not acceptable.

to all you people saying it's OK if somebody gets hurt, you are no better than the Republicans you criticize for being rude. Violence in any way is not acceptable.

I didn't vote for President Bush; but it just boils my water to think that he could he subject to such physical and violent disrespect!

It's just downright unacceptable that President Bush had to protect himself by dodging.

    This is barbarism!

Do Americans really approve of people throwing shoes,or anything else at the President of the United States of America-It's vary obvious that many people do not have any respect for our government, even in our own country.I am proud and thankful to be American.I enlisted and served my country in the United States Army .The thought of people not respecting the office of the President of the United States makes me sick at my stomach, and I wonder why ,is it because these people have not done anything for anyone but them selves,so they have no respect for anything?

You people who say that this guy is a hero are pathetic and hypocritical. If he had so much courage he would have stood up and done something this brash when Saddam Hussein was president. You know, the guy who truly oppressed and destroyed the people of his country?

  23. Poor Perino

I'm sorry Perino got hit by a microphone while the Secret Service scrambled to protect Bush ... but i gotta say i find the shoe bit pretty great. It's a brilliant way to show utter contempt without really being violent. I read that journalists could hear the thrower's cries while he was being beaten up after the incident – that's a lot creeper than Perino's black eye IMO.

This is to.......... "Turn Texas Blue" : You will have to wait about 8 more years, because once the mexicans down here find out they can stand on their own 2 feet, this state will be a "Battleground State" ....right now, the republicans have them scared, especially when they threaten to fire them, if they find out that their employees voted Dem....
But, honestly, the republicans have evrything down here so locked up, it's pitiful.......When it comes election time, they've got the TV ads / All the Billboards / Newspaper Ads / All the Radio Stations ALL LOCKED UP !!! (they will spend millions)........They shut out Nick Lampson, and he was the best thing they had in Sugar Land, (the one who took Delay's place)......But, unfortunately, the Repubs had enough money to buy out all the Ads..
