(CNN) – Who knew being White House press secretary was such a dangerous job?
While President Bush emerged from the weekend's now-infamous shoe attack in Iraq without a scratch, press secretary Dana Perino appears to be a little worse for wear.
Perino was sitting to the side of the president when an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at him Sunday. She was inadvertently hit by a microphone as the president's Secret Service agents responded and officials scrambled to wrestle the journalist to the ground.
Watch: Bush ducks shoes in Iraq
The full effects of the accident were clear at Tuesday's White House daily briefing, where Perino sported a bruise below her right eye and scratch just above the eyebrow.
"The shoe check-in and check-out policy will begin tomorrow," Perino joked.

That incident is not funny and should be considered an insult to every American....bush supporter or NOT! Our leader was insulted and that is a reflection on us all. Mr Bush is not popular with me at all, but there is a way to do everything. That was not it! The president is to be admired for how he took it. I hope that he is taught a lesson for his inappropriate actions toward a world leader.
It is very dangerous standing next to someone NOBODY likes!!! but, hey, thats her job!
What Black Eye?
I get worse bruises playing tackle football WI|TH MY GIRLFRIEND.
Maybe she can remember what the Cuban missile crises was now
Chi Town,
You really think that the shoe-throwing guy won't experience some "enhanced interrogation techniques" that the Bush administration is famous for? If the war-criminal, Bush, is true to form, I'm sure that this guy is going to find himself "extraordinary renditioned" to an Abu Ghraib-like secret prison, and he'll probably wish he was dead if they don't kill him. Sad but true.
Oh yea, concerning her eye, A little make up and steak should take care of that.
So when will the cnn.com poll ask how many would like to throw their shoes at the president? Come on, you know you should.
Anna is right. Things were much better under Saddam. I don't think a single person EVER threw a shoe at him. Also, he got like 99.9% of the vote in every single election! That's way better than Obama.
Bush really messed up Iraq, and provided the Iraqi people with nothing but misery. He is responsible for the death of the most popular despot ever, and his two lovely sons who were taken before their prime. I hear underage Iraqi girls in particular threw themselves at Uday. How dare Bush take that man away from his people.
I say hit Bush with shoes! And everyone in America should cheer for thar reporter. Why if Obama is just HALF the man Saddam was, the US is headed for great times indeed!
Obama just issued an executive order...all reporters at White House press meeting will remove their shoes at the WH entrance. The Obama family dog will then chew them up.
New game – Dodge-shoe.
@ Karee:
"Perino chick" ? I doubt anyone read the rest of your comment beyond that.
Yeah i'm with Kel...sounds fishy, she is not even visible in the video footage. Maybe she too choked on a peanut?
To all of you who find humor in the shoe throwing incident.
There is nothing funny about any US president being disrepected over seas. The fact the you find humor in the situation shows you have no love or respect for your country.
Thank you for throwing the shoe, but a grenade would have worked better.
somehow i don't think scott mclellan could have pulled the look off as well.
you all agree with this idiot that threw the shoe, but, as many have said, if this had happened when Sadam was in charge ect.
we freed these folks from the tirant and this is what we get. get off your high horses before Obama gets in there and it gets worse!
Bush will have to call for leniency for the shoe-thrower after talking about how the 'freedom' he brought to Iraq allowed him to express himself.
It's hard to understand how anyone can be upset about 'disrespect' being shown to a man with no heart who is responsible for some horrible, horrible things not limited to this fruitless and unnecessary war.
I wish the think had clocked him in his forehead and left a heel-shaped mark on the heel.
How did the guy have time to throw the second shoe at the President of the United States? Somebody should have been on him...
Second, to all who hate Bush: Watch how those of us who don't agree with Obama handle things over the coming years...it won't be as silly and petty as what you have done for 8 years. Grow up.
Just one more black eye for the Geo. W. and company.
I want to know why the Secret Service didn't take a shoe for the Prez??? Hell if they can't stop a shoe how can they expect to stop a bullet.
Oh well well. Lets see when obama visits iraq, how they will treat him. You democrats have nothing good to say about president bush, who kept us safe for 7 years. You are ungrateful bunch.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.
Hmm..... I'm sure that reporter was "free" enough to throw a shoe at Sadaam when he was in power.
I'm sure he was "free" to show his anger and disgust that Sadaam murder thousands of innocent people.
I'm sure the entire Iraq population is upset that they now enjoy freedoms that they have never experienced.
One life lost is too many, but to try and hide the good that has happened in Iraq is poor journalism and disrespectful to those that have lost their life fighting for a just cause.
Just another pathetic display of this administrations ability to handle anything. I wish we all could wake up tomorrow and the entire republican party would just be gone, never to return. Wouldn't that be a nice Christmas?
35 more days until we don't have to listen to her cold hearted lies.
I am by no means a Bush fan but I do find it rather disgusting that this man would attack bush for all the widows and orphans made without any revernace to the fact that before our involvement their country was run by saddams torture chambers and his murdering rapist sons
