Cheney to Emanuel: Control your VP

Vice President Cheney had some advice for President-elect Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

Vice President Cheney had some advice for President-elect Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Vice President Dick Cheney had some blunt - and humorous - advice for incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel at a private breakfast earlier this month, CNN has learned.

"The best thing you can do is keep your VP under control," Cheney told Emanuel, according to three sources familiar with the White House meeting that had previously not been disclosed publicly.

One of the sources, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the private meeting, said the room broke up in laughter because of Cheney's reputation for being a hard-charging vice president.

The meeting was called by current White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten, who decided to bring together 13 of his predecessors in the top job from both parties to try to offer Emanuel some bipartisan advice.

Among the attendees were Cheney and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, each of whom served as chief of staff to President Gerald Ford. Other attendees included former Clinton chiefs John Podesta and Leon Panetta.

The sources familiar with the meeting told CNN that Rumsfeld advised Emanuel not to think he's indispensable, and told him that since it's a back-breaking job, he needs to identify his successor early. Rumsfeld's successor as Ford's chief of staff was Cheney.

    Isn't this ironic?
Cheney says control somebody who is in his (Cheneys) position?

Republicans are full of dark humor.

First, barackturnedmerepuclican, take your meds, sit down and shut that hole underneath your nose. People like you don't matter so hush little baby. Second, I really am sickened at how this bastard flaunts his disrespect and outright admittance of the Iraq War and how he authorized torture. The same kind of torture (waterboarding) that the Japanese committed on Allied soldiers and civilians in WWII and we hanged them for what they did for crimes against humanity. Obviously Cheney will never face that kind of justice in this lifetime but as a Christian I believe he will have much to answer for when he dies.

There is nothing humorus about Dick Cheney. He needs to be prosecuted for war crimes, treason and war profiteering.

CNN is too much in the lap of Republican power to author articles about Cheney admitting to all of the above during an ABC interview, so Americans need to go elsewhere to find out the truth obout this dismal and felonious man.

Ahh…how sweet: In between killing babies, destroying the constitution, destroying america and torturing innocent people…Cheney gives people advice.

You are an idiot!!! Why dont you open your home to those nice people at Gitmo or go over to the middle east and tell the terrorist how you love them. I bet your head would be on a platter. What a moron!!

Isn't it interesting when cheney discloses his authorization to use water boarding (torture), CNN Political Ticker does not even touch it. It is an admitted violation of human rights per the Geneva Convention and the basis of the Japanese war trials convictions. The man would be tried (and probably convicted) as a war criminal if using WWII standards.

So much for your full coverage of the news.

    Liberals are Communist,

If all those people in Gitmo are what you say, why don't we give them American trials, we did to like McVeigh. Instead we don't even know who is there, oh Cheney says they are terrorists (few of them probably are), but I don't take Cheney on his word.

Why don't you think Cheney has never been under oath?

Our government, whether you and Rush believe it or not, is based on laws for everybody. Including terrorists, whether middle eastern, American, or Antarctican. Our laws don't destinguish punishments between American citizens, immigrant, illegal immigrants, presidents, vice presidents etc.

Why do you think we even have Gitmo? So Bush and Cheney can claim that US laws don't apply to US territories (a gray area), but I promise you this, the history will not be easy on this administration.

So please, take your Rush talking points, which would not stand in a third world country court, let alone the US court, and get out of here with that garbage. Opinion is not fact.

Obama is living in Disney World. Watch for the sparks to fly between Pelosi, Reid and Obama during the first 100 days. Watch for Obama to retreat from his promise to get out of Iraq completely in 16 months. Taxes on the wealthy and corporations ain't gonna happen, and neither is the great tax cut for middle America. And watch for Obama to accelerate the War in Afghanistan which will be the worst decision of his presidency. The US has 20,000 troops in Afghan; Russian could not win in ten years there with 100,000 troops. Ahghanistan will become Obams's Vietnam. In terms of saving the auto industry – this, too, will not happen correctly as the UAW will call in its markers, and without a UAW concession of gigantic proportions, GM and Chrysler are doomed to fail
