WASHINGTON (CNN) – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg declined Thursday to endorse Caroline Kennedy as Hillary Clinton’s successor, but added that he knows “exactly” who should be the next senator to represent his state.
But he wouldn’t give a name.
Bloomberg did praise Kennedy saying that “she’s very competent” and “she’s done a lot for New York City,” but added that he is not in the position to publicly endorse any prospective replacement for Clinton, who is President-elect Barack Obama’s designate for Secretary of State.
“I should stay out of the race, personally,” Bloomberg said during an appearance on ABC’s ‘The View.’
“It’s not my call. If it were my call to pick somebody, I know exactly …,” added Bloomberg, who was immediately asked “Would you pick her?”
“I can’t tell you, because then I’d be getting involved,” Bloomberg responded.
Kevin Sheekey, Bloomberg’s deputy mayor, is supporting Kennedy’s bid to be appointed to the seat by New York Gov. David Paterson.
Bloomberg also noted that Paterson is “lucky to have a number of different candidates” to consider for the seat.

More proof that Bloomberg is one of the most intelligent politicians out there.
I am shocked, shocked that he doesn't want Caroline to be enshrined in the House of Lords.
Bloomberg is running into a brick wall with term limits in NYC and I'm sure he knows that if they wouldn't get rid of term limits for Rudy after 9/11 they're not going to get rid of term limits for him now. So he has two choices going forward, run for governor of NY or the US Senate. Kennedy will only be appointed for two years then NY will have a special election. Perfect timing for Mayor Bloomburg, who will be leaving office next year to then walk into a run for the senate. For it to work he can't be seen praising his future oppoinents qualifications.

I think Caroline would be a great contributor to a HEALTHY New York..and I can say that as I a resident...Siena College needs to repoll those that are registered Dems or Repubs in NYS....go with the average citizens and I would suggest your yesterday results would be different and in favor of Caroline.

I love the Kennedy's and I love Mayor Bloomberg but I think he made a wise choice by staying out of it. I also like the way he put it. Go Bloomberg. Caroline, good luck because I think you would make a

Ted Kennedy already went there when he called Gov Patterson and said he knew they could send a lot of money for projects towards New Yorks way. Using pay for play with tax payers dollar to force an unqualified person because of name recognition and a feeling of entitlement is disgusting.
And, for those who DARE try to compare Caroline to the current seat holder, you SHOULD BE ASHAMED. So easy to sell your convictions apparently. Hillary Clinton was First Lady of Arkansas, practicing Attorney, championed chiildrens and womens rights and health care, and then became First Lady of the United States for 8 years. Hardly does charity work, however nice she did that, or writing books equates close to that experience and knowledge.
And this SURELY does not represent CHANGE, if they are trying to strong arm an unqualified person with name recognition only .
And at a time when we see how our politicians are serving themselves, showing it's who you know and who gives the dough that rewards folks with a position, Gov Patterson should push this away as far as he can.
There are so many GOOD and QUALIFIED persons, with experience and knowledge pertinent to the position that should be placed in this position. And throw awy intimidation, strong arm tactics and pay for play down the gutter where it belongs.

Had Bloomberg simply stated that he can't endorse anyone this wouldn't even be an article. But because he chooses to mouth off just enough to shoot her down and pique interest for his unamed choice we're stuck with this. This guy is just a typical bad politician looking only to serve his own interests.

It seems there is a problem about if Caroline Kennedy is apt or not to work as senator.
This is very curious,...many members from her own Democratic Party do not find her quite experienced or seasoned for the task.
However, they endorse, support, promote, almost worship, and elect Obama, who is a big ZERO in experience and views , totally not able to take the helm of the country. Yet, there he is!
These democrats deserve their own sitcom on TV, they are so funny ( and PHONY as well) that their power to make America laugh is at the higest magnitud.

WTH CARES!
It seems as if the name Kennedy qualifies them for ANYTHING. Just can't believe it. There are more who are more qualified however having the KENNEDY name will get her there. I was a great supporter of her father but do not think she should get the job.
Kennedy should not be chosen. The governor should pick someone who has ran for office and put forth the effort NOT someone who has done nothing. No more gifts for the Kennedy's.
Caroline Kennedy is just a regular woman with NO EXPERIENCE who just happens to come from a very powerful family. She is NOT QUALIFIED people, she's just a regular person with NO LEGISLATIVE EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER.

No one is telling you these things (except for maybe where to smoke). They just want to tax you for them, that's all.
