Clinton Foundation reaches written agreement with Obama camp

CNN has obtained a written memorandum between the Clinton Foundation and the Obama transition team.
CNN has obtained a written memorandum between the Clinton Foundation and the Obama transition team.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – In an effort to clear the way for Sen. Hillary Clinton’s confirmation as secretary of state, CNN has learned that her husband’s foundation has reached a written agreement with the Obama-Biden transition team.

The five-page document states that former President Bill Clinton will not personally solicit funds for the Clinton Global Initiative, a high-profile annual gathering of the Clinton Foundation that solicits contributions from around the world in order to address global challenges like poverty, climate change, and global health issues. In the document, the foundation also agrees to separate the Clinton Global Initiative off from the rest of its operations and incorporate that initiative as a separate entity.

The foundation also agrees to seek review by State Department ethics officials of certain donations to its effort to fight HIV and AIDS throughout the world.

The agreement was turned over to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee by the Obama transition team Wednesday and obtained by CNN Thursday.

Yeah, yeah... either way, they're got medical care and they're not starving.

I'm sure there's been other "agreements" made ever since the primaries.

Boy, the Clintons have BOTH given up a LOT for this appointment. They are probably the most vetted people in Washington DC anymore.

It is refreshing to see a President who values ethics and expects nothing short from his administration.

Fighting HIV and AIDS should not be done on the basis of politics. Whichever the country fighting of diseases should be independent of politics.

after reading the list of donors to clinton i can hardly wait to see how the media and democrats try to explain how hillary can possibly be sec. of state. if this was a republican they would already be under investigation by a special prosecutor callling for life in prison! the bias is about to be exposed in black and white and i wonder if there are any politicians with the honesty and guts to pursue this and stop what could become obama's worst nightmare!!! let's hope this clinton debauchery is finally put to a permanent end! obama – please pick an honest unencumbered person for this important job before you allow the clintons to destroy you (which is their intent)!!!

And I bet also Obama made a deal with Hillary to take the job as Secretary of State. She wont lose her chances to win in 2012 unless Mr. Obama gave her an offer she couldn't refuse. Money wise I think both of them came out pretty good.

I'm sure that Bill will keep his fingers out of all those pies he's developed to support his philanthropic urges. You can count on him to be above board and forthwright.

What will the Clinton haters say to this? I admire the Clintons and the more Obama shows he understands the Clintons value, the more I respect Obama.

  13. Bad Deal and Bad Obama Idea

This is a bad deal for President Clinto to agree to, and a bad idea on the part of the Obama transition team. Mr Clinton's fund raising is not for him – it is for his Foundation – which does a tremendous amount of good charitable work around the world. Why would we want to restrict President Clinton from raising additional funds and continuing the fine work his foundation has been doing? This is bad policy being set by the Obama team for no apparent good reason

So Nice to hear that Bill Clinton has had the foresight to make such a Formal Agreement in order to clear the way for Hillary and to avoid the certainty of a 'Costly and Nasty Divorce!'

I am NOT surprised at all if this whole thing (NOMINATION) is an election deal but you know this is politics baby... you can't avoid it...

As long as Obama sticks to his agenda and promote global peace INCLUDING a pragmatic approach to this Pakistan's terrorism menace and their government support, I am OK...

This ain't going to be an Obama presidency; this is all about Bill Clinton’s 3rd term and his legacy rewriting.

Hillary Clinton's presence on Obama's team after a ruthless and virulent campaign against him just stinks of back-rook deals, just as Hillary's senatorship sure felt like a back-room deal for standing by Bill in the Monica Lewinsky crisis.

I like Obama a lot, but he sure has a lot of people around him who will be just about the opposite of "agents of change."

Well we can all trust Bill. He would never lie! He would never lie even if he's been sworn to tell the truth? We all know that Bill has always told the truth.

Oh like that agreement is going to stand. HA! H.Clinton. should NOT become secretary of state unless her husband gives back ALL the foreign money he has received. I can't believe Congress would approve of her appointment. Awful!

Hillary Clinton is such an enigma. She brings out extreme feelings in so many people, I hope she doesn't sabotage Obama, I wouldn't put it past her. The only thing I have against her is her constant feelings of entitlement. I mean she is only a junior senator and an ex first lady.
