Clinton Foundation reaches written agreement with Obama camp

CNN has obtained a written memorandum between the Clinton Foundation and the Obama transition team.
CNN has obtained a written memorandum between the Clinton Foundation and the Obama transition team.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – In an effort to clear the way for Sen. Hillary Clinton’s confirmation as secretary of state, CNN has learned that her husband’s foundation has reached a written agreement with the Obama-Biden transition team.

The five-page document states that former President Bill Clinton will not personally solicit funds for the Clinton Global Initiative, a high-profile annual gathering of the Clinton Foundation that solicits contributions from around the world in order to address global challenges like poverty, climate change, and global health issues. In the document, the foundation also agrees to separate the Clinton Global Initiative off from the rest of its operations and incorporate that initiative as a separate entity.

The foundation also agrees to seek review by State Department ethics officials of certain donations to its effort to fight HIV and AIDS throughout the world.

The agreement was turned over to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee by the Obama transition team Wednesday and obtained by CNN Thursday.

SG, if a president valued ethics they'd never have brought the Clintons on board. Moron.

At this stage of the proceedings I have to announce my total fatigue for all the intrigue surrounding the former first family. In my estimation they have not served the typical American family all that well, rather they have helped themselves up the financial ladder at our expense. Now we have a situation where the 'big dog' has been forced into revealing the shenanigans of his so-called Global Initiatives. I have to wonder what the heck that big pot of stew contains and what, or more correctly, who benefits from his schemes. I'm guessing that his hand can be found deeply embedded inside that little cookie jar.

For folks questioning why Bill has to run things through the State Dept, it's because "perception is reality." It can be perceived that Hillary is greasing the wheels for foundation donations or that a donation may represent a conflict of interest for the SD. Regardless of whether that's true or not, if the perception exists, it might as well be true.

McKinney, it's beyond me what people REALLY have against the Clintons. Fisher and Meadowlands must be part of that "righteous right" that forgot, 1st of all, that the bible says "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Secondly, Bill Clinton left office with, appropriately, one of the highest approval ratings IN HISTORY! On the other hand, Mr. Bush is leaving office with (appropriately) the LOWEST approval rating in history! Vice president's company winning no contest bids to "rebuild" Iraq, patriot act, over 4000 soldiers dead in a war for which we HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW... NOTHING!Unemployment up, recession, etc, etc, etc.
The ONLY thing anyone could have to judge Bill Clinton about (judge not, lest ye be judged) is that he had an extramarital affair. NOBODY'S BUSINESS!!!!!
I got so sick of republicans hollering "Sore-Loserman" around every corner after the so-called election of 2008...
Well, GOP, you had your 8 years – look what ya did for us. Fine job...

Stop the madness and kvetching! We finally have someone in office who is not afraid to look at the credentials of the people selected to serve the country instead of cronies with absolutely no experience. Agreements are made every day in politics and at least this one is out in the open for everyone to see. The country is in shambles thanks to GWB, so let's get together and try to work together with a President that is willing to work with more than just his "buddies" and "cronies" to get the country back in shape – and he's going to need all eight years to get it put back into some semblence of order, Open your minds and work toward the good. Stop the partisanship and be on the team together. This is a great country and it's time everyone took a postive part in it. Happy Holidays to all and may the New Year bring us all to a place of more responsibility, the spirit of giving, sharing, and above all, more positive communication – may the country live as one because we're all in this together.

To Meadowlands: The country is already down the tubes if you've actually taken a notice of what Bush has done. I for one and glad people with some intelligence are taking over. Let's see what they do first before casting stones.

Hillary was already a U.S. Senator when Bill was running his foundations. This is kind of backwards to me because any way you look at it Hillary was already serving inside the White House and nothing was said about Bill's foundation funding.

So far President-Elect Obama has shown very impressive judgement in choosing his staff and cabinet. If he thinks Senator Clinton is as qualified to be Secretary of State as his Nobel laureate, govenors, scientists, and ex-Chacellors then I do too. he must trust her and thinks she will represent him,his values and policy faithfully to the rest of the world. the foresight he has shown, for example in making ex-President Clinton define his foundations activities and be accountable are admirable. I think, despite the incredible challenges he faces almost every aspect of our soceity, he has shown true leadership, judgement. I look forward to seeing what he will do. I am very impressed, it is not every day a politician rises above expectation.

*** Why would we want to restrict President Clinton from raising additional funds and continuing the fine work his foundation has been doing? ***

Because, idiot, it give the appearance of donations to his foundation in some way influencing his wife.

How blind are we,. Americans are like children. These creeps don't deserve us but we're going to let them screw us, laugh at us and dance at our funerals. We are nothing but fools to Obama, Clinton etc, and the truckload of thugs who we all have foolishly anointed in our desperation.
    They think we're stupid..........and they're right.

The Clintons have made a mockery of this country. Nothing is honest with either of them! They are both liars. Why can't the American people see this? Obama kept saying CHANGE during his campaign, but – having the CLintons in the White House is NOT change, and believe me, Bill will be running the white house again, he'll give orders to Hillary!!!!

I serioulsly hope that NONE of these picks are coming from Obama himself. As far as Clinton giving up funds to fight global health issues... hahahahahah.. what a complete SHAM...This is just another way to rape our citizens of the last few scheckles made with their blood sweat and tears... make everyone sick with genetically engineerd food served up in BPA laden packaging, add a ton of soy hormone disrupters into everything as well as canola oil...
then take it all back as profits selling people costly pharmaceuticals and a national health care system, to keep them going. I think Obama was read the riot act by the multinational big wigs/feds that our country is indebted too. and given a list of people to appoint. Vilsack for Agriculture was the key position. A Fox guarding a hen house, with a up to the eyeballs corrupt FDA and USDA.
Their idea of climate control? Well not to go solar, like it shoud be, but to kill off most of the world's population with Monsanto's bad seed.
Monsanto, one of Hilary's biggest contributors.
Gosh, if I wanted another Clinton fiasco, i would have voted for Hilary, not Barack., for goodness sake..Only 'up' side is that there is no more social security money that they can steal, or is there? Anyhow.. I HOPE that Barack was made to tow the line, and it is not that he was in cahoots right from the very start. Could he be that good of an actor? I don't think so.. he looks too beat up right now for this to have been part of his master plan all along.
Well, i guess that this proves that it really doesn't matter who you vote for. We're all just surfs here on this estate..

You all know darn well, that the Clintons and Mr. Obama were making deals together, all during the campaiging! Why else would Hillary tell her supporters to vote for him? She KNEW there would be a place for her AND Bill on the cabinet, and believe me... Bill will be right in there too, running our country again! And being dishonest and unfaithful !

I SURE hope Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden read all these comments that have been submitted. Wonder if anything will sink in to their brains, as to how the American people are feeling right now about their choices for our future??? CHANGE???????????????????? I don't think so!!!

@Bad Deal and Bad Obama Idea....get a clue! This is not a bad policy by the Obama team. We want to restrict the monetary supporters of Clinton's fundraising because then Hillary, as Secretary of State, be be beholden to them. Do you really want her beholden to the likes of the Saudi's, etc., because this is what will happen. When they want something from us, she'll have to agree...you know the old you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours thing that has been going on in our government far too long.

I personally think the Clintons owe too much to everyone and Hillary should not be Secretary of State.

I agree with what Sid said: H.Clinton. should NOT become secretary of state unless her husband gives back ALL the foreign money he has received. I can't believe Congress would approve of her appointment. Awful!

What is this country coming to? It's disgusting...
