Matt, dude, you need your medicine. Joe's an Independent. Yes, a person should be loyal to the affiliations they claim to prize. He doesn't claim to be a Democrat. Unlike Powell, who claims (for some reason unknown to mankind) to be a Republican. Yet, lo and behold, the Repubs are not trying to "punish" him.

I think it was one thing for Joe to support his old buddy McCain, but when McCain put Palin on the ticket, his continued support for their ticket made him a traitor in my eyes.

Every time I see a blog on here from obvious Limbough, Hannity mindless folks I never cease to be amazed at the small mindedness hate I read. The party of wealth and greed that claim the Lord, while cutting back on anything that help the poor, the elderly, the sick.

I would not begrudge anyone rich to support the Republicans, what I can't understand is how many of the poor that are just bursting with pride to be in that hateful party.

I believe in Jesus before party, and though my party has some issues that they support that I don't think the Lord would approve of, I still find the Dem. Party concerned more about the issues that Jesus spent most of his time teaching us. Caring for the poor, the weak, the elderly, the sick, etc. The Republicans seem to only support the rich, and lo0ve of money.

I find it strange that the Dems in Connecticut that cut Lieberman out during the primaries in '06 would have the gall to tell him what they think of his positions re: the war and McCain.
I applaud Joe Lieberman for his fortitude and courage under fire.
He is McCain's puppy dog but hey, if that is the stand he wants to take who are the Dems of Connecticut to tell him otherwise. for Shame.

Hey Raj (1:57pm)

Obama doesn't believe in negativity???? What a laugh! He listened to the Irreverent Wright for twenty years, whose basic MESSAGE is hatred of America, hatred of Jews, hatred of whites. But of course in all those twenty years, Obama NEVER heard him say any of those things.

You libs need to try to control your Oboner.

Everyone is entitled to vote for who they want to but Don Knotts/Lieberman was on the campaign trail. I read someone's post who complained that no one said anything when Colin Powell endorsed Obama....That all Colin Powell did. He wasn't out there on the campaign trail skinning and grinning and carrying on. Don Knotts could have came out and said he endorsed McCain and then shut it up.....

Here is the problem with BOTH parties in a nutshell.

Lieberman lost the Democratic nomination for his seat, elected to run as an Independent (which he said he wouldn't do), retained his membership in the Democratic Party, and used it to coerce his way into committee chairmanships. Then he turns his back on the party and actively campaigns for the Republican nominee and speaks at their convention slamming the Democratic nominess, again which he recently said he didn't do.
He is nothing but a liar and an opportunists as about all others on Capitol Hill.
Now neither the Democratic majority has the balls to strip him of his chairmanships and send him packing to the Republican side where he belongs. And now his state party is sending him a letter expressing their dismay at his conduct.
Screw them all!!! The people of CT need to send this jerk packing when he is up for reelection and Harry Reid and the other need to grow a set of balls, or has George Bush neutered him too????
Change isn't coming to this country until all these fools are replaced in Congress. And I don't mean by their relatives.

@ STEVE IN NY........ after the BUSH DISASTER, Jeb Bush does not have a chance!

Where is the CHANGE????

CHANGE OF LEADERSHIP

CHANGE IN HOW OUR LEADER LEADS.... WITH HIS BRAINS!

CHANGE IN HOW THINGS ARE DONE.... EXAMPLE: asking both Republicans and Democrats to JOIN the OBAMA CABINET!

CHANGE IN HONESTY! NO MORE LIES ABOUT TORTURE OR WAR!

And IF you are still not convinced! CHANGE does not mean that you do not use past leaders as well as new leaders.... IT MEANS BEING SMART, USING YOUR GOD GIVEN BRILLIANCE. Using the BEST and BRIGHTEST regardless of party affiliation or years in D.C.!

OBAMA IS CHANGING THE WAY AMERICA LEADS AND DOES BUSINESS IN THIS WORLD!

HOPE TRUMPS LIES, HATE & FEAR!

To say that membership to a specific party requires no loyalty, and personal opinions are all that matters misses the point of ANY party membership. If you play for the Giants you don't endorse the Cubs. Opinions are for private citizens. If your opinion is in conflict with the party you claim, you must quit the party, or be labeled the hypocrite you are.

@Steve, NY (12:09): You spew the typical vacuous [R]ightwing drivel, while exhibiting no sign that you sense the irony and hypocrisy of a [R] saying [D]s are brainwashed and have loyalty problems. Man, you neo-tard types drink something alot stronger than Koolaide.

Is it just me, or does anybody remember the vitriol spewed right here on recent tickers by rightwing goons towards Powell and Gates?

[D]s are brainwashed? Oh really? Just who voted for the tri-fecta of consistent and abject failure....THREE times!......2000, 2004, and 2008? I can only say that those who did so should seek refuge in the excuse that they were brain-washed, because the other explanation for chosing consistent failure would be a much more severe comment on your mental faculties. Who comes on here and defends rightwing drivil-dogma from ilk like Limbaugh as if its the bible?...and I'm brainwashed?

Who got hoodwinked? I voted for Obama, and I'm quite happy......in fact, noticeably more happy than you. You're the one that voted in 2000 and 2004 for small government and less spending AND GOT NIETHER! I knew from the get-go that Mr. Bush was a proven disaster, was surrounded by neo-idiots, and was supported by the rightwing underbelly of this country ---- if that's not a recipe for FAILURE, I don't know what would be....and indeed it CERTAINLY was. And I'm proud to say I DID NOT VOTE FOR IT.

You seem to think us [D]s have problems now, but honestly, the only problem we really have is to choose which of the many methods availbale to beat you [R]ightwingers like drum.

I agree with "A real American".

Lieberman's alliances lie with Isreal 1st ... NOT with America's. He should renounce his US citizenship and move to Tel Aviv.

Lieberman is an Opportunist that bet on the wrong horse, McCain.

He is more than that though. He maligned Obama in the campaign. He threw false grenades at Barack after vowing to provide respectful, civil support to McCain.

It is his conduct, not his traitorous pick of McCain, that has him in hot water with the voters. Sooner or later, he will pay.

Raj, if you felt in your heart that you had to "go one way" and follow it through, would you worry about "crossing the line?" I think he did what he felt he needed to do. It is good that we can do that and not be influenced or punished by evil dictators. America is a free country and a safe place to live. We are so lucky to be able to live within the walls of freedom without fear everyday. I believe he did what he thought was best in order to protect what we have.

For the confused few that reference the Powell/Obama vs Lieberman/McCain comparrison.

Powell was still respectful towards his parties nomination, whil Lieberman spouted LIES and went dirty. It's politics. Go dirty on your parties candidate, expect those in your party to be upset.

It is fortunate that in our country we have the freedom to make our own decisions and vote for whom we want without fear of intimidation or threats. I don't feel it is right for the Democrats to send a letter of disappointment to Senator Lieberman. They must want to intimidate him, which is not a good choice for the Democrats. It makes them look a bit evil. I think it says a lot that the Republicans would welcome him with open arms. Frankly, I admire him for supporting John McCain. He did what he believed in.

Please. Republicans being tolerant? The same republicans that called anyone who disagreed with the war in Iraq a traitor? They way they blasted Powell for siding with Obama? You people kill me.

And speaking of Powell, I'd be willing to bet that most of you here typing this nonsense are the same ones that said the only reason he did it was because he was black. But Liberman was only putting country 1st and did so only because he felt McCain was the better man?

Waiter, round of reality checks, please?

I absolutely hate everything that the Republican party has become, and I am unabashedly a liberal Democrat. But this idea that someone has to vote a certain way to remain "loyal" to a party is an example of the scummiest politics America has to offer.
I cannot believe this is an issue at all, the man can vote however he wants. He is, after all, still an American.
For once I am siding with the repubs.

Why should we be surprised by what the Dems are doing. Look at their modus operandi. They only support an issue if it follows their beliefs. They wanted a strong female role model. Well, America got one, but because she didn't abort her baby, had a gun, believed in God (OH MY NO!!!!), and never had to evade imaginary sniper fire, the Dems couldn't stand Sarah Palin. And don't even get me started on what they do to a black Republican.

Lieberman not only endorsed McCain, he made attacks on Obama that went well beyond the pale.

Hopefully when the Dems get to 61 or 62 seats in 2010, they can kick him out of the caucus. In 2012, it won't matter, because Judas Iscariot's time is up then, and he stands very little chance of being re-elected now whatever party he runs for.

Just as Lieberman betrayed the Democratic party he would be quick to betray the USA if he were ever to find his way into the Whitehouse. To Lieberman the slogan "Country First" means Israel first. He is supporting McCain because he knows that McCain will willingly spill American blood and spend American treasure in defense of Israels interests.

From what I've heard and I could be wrong, Sen. Lieberman holds dual citizenship with the US & Isreal. There is nothing wrong with that except possible dual loyalties. Just read between his lips, he wants Americans to go to war with Arab countries on behalf of Isreal, McCain will give his his war, so of course he's all for McCain. Most of us strongly support Isreal, it's a great country just in a hotspot. Lets just tell Sen. Lieberman to come out of his war closet & just admit that he wants war and then America can decide instead of him wispering in McCain's ears hoping to get the war clouds to gather. Americans want to fight the good wars and we will defend Isreal in their time of need. Americans just don't want the wars where our political leaders start for personal or financial reasons. Be honest with us Sen. Lieberman, live up to your so called values for once in your political life.

Powell campained with Obama, said he wasn't sure if McCain was marxist or not and he even traveled abroad with him telling the world what a great man he was. Wasn't that Powell going around with Joe Biden? Telling everyone who would listen that McCain pals around and got the endorsement from a terrorist(BUSH)!

DId I read criticism of Robert Byrd, with Senator Lieberman's picture in accompaniment?

Senator Byrd has more integrity in his little finger than Joe Lieberman. I consider the courage to simply speak your truth. We don't need tap dancers, eager for power, approval or influence. I personally hope Byrd (whose views are not always my own!) is around a long time.

In CT the voters have spoken. The Democrats did not nominate Lieberman for Senator we nominated Ned LaMont. Lieberman is an independent and should be treated as such. He has no allegiance to any party or or anything else for that matter. He is solely concerned with holding on to any power and advantage he can get. If Obama is or the Democrats are gracious enough to let him hold on to his chairmanship so be it. I'll be working to see that he doesn't represent CT the next time he is up for re-election. He is basically against all the Democratic Party principals and should be treated as such. In other words, after seeing him support the illegal invasion of Iraq, support the illegal detainment of prisoners at Guantanamo, support wire tapping of US citizens, support Israeli aggression in the Middle East, and support rendition I am secure in the fact that Lieberman is a SCUMBAG!!!!!

I absolutely agree with Barbara. Lieberman is neither Democrat nor Independent nor Republican. He is a self-serving worm…a sleazy snake. I cannot stand him. Like Barbara, I hope that voters of any party reject him in the future. Who needs this traitor?

I had no problem him backing mccain, I just had a problem how he disparaged Mr. Obama who to me was made a criminal in the eyes of Americans, how sad!!

Mr. Lieberman and the rest will remain guilty in the court of most American eyes for lack of dignity.
I would think there was a way he could have been Mr. Mccain backer without saying what he said about Mr. Obama

If you don't like him, vote him out.

Any Republican pointing to the Dems' reaction to this as a sign this administration won't be inclusive needs to look in the mirror. How inclusive was YOUR party?

You're not hearing hat from Dems on these blogs. You're hearing total and complete disavowment of the last 8 years of leadership. I.E. we're ANGRY.

And would you GOPers tolerate it if a person calling themselves a Catholic went around blabbering about Allah all day long and praying to Mecca 5 times a day? Looks like a duck, acts like a duck, quacks like a duck...must be a duck. Lieberman is a Republican, so he should not be in the Democratic party.

What I find soooooo funny is all the right wingers keep trashing the left for things they have done and in worse fasion. You guys have THE most selective memories i have ever seen. You all also keep bashing President Elect Obama saying thins like 'wait till this socialist takes power, the country will go to pot!" Once again showing you all really know nothing. The last THREE republican presidents ended thier terms with the country in recession. The last democtratic president, Bill Clinton, ended his term with a balanced budget , no deficit, VERY low unemployment rate, lowest welfare rate in 30 years...yet you are all doom and gloom now that we have come to power. Your party wrecked our country, your president could not have done a worse job! Where do you repubs get off? You are like the coach for the Detroit Lions telling the New York Giants they don't know how to play football. Get a clue!!!!!!

@ Mary in Texas

Yes. If you want to call yourself a Democrat or Republican or whatever affiliation you choose, it is generally expected that you exercise your free speech in a manner that is consistent with that affiliation and not directly against its interests. Otherwise, you can go about saying the same thing, just not wearing that membership nametag. THAT is what this is about. It is NOT about Lieberman being ridiculed for what he said...even though that should be fair game as well since he joined in with the McCain/Palin smear and fear festival.

Leiberman can always go both ways---because he doesnt' represent the people of his state---he's only there to represent the national interests of Israel. When those are at stake--he'd become a communist if necessary.

People, the red lines under your words indicate that they are spelled incorrectly. Make a note of that. Also, it is Democrat not Democrate; hypocrite not hypocrit; and allowed as permitted, not aloud as in to say things aloud.
Lieberman had the right to endorse whomever he wanted and he will need to deal with the consequences when the time comes.
Shall we get back to reporting on and issuing offensive anonymous comments on real news now?
