WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Bush cleared the way Friday for Hillary Clinton to become secretary of state, signing a law that removes a potential constitutional barrier for the New York senator’s nomination by reducing her prospective pay as the nation’s top diplomat.
Congress voted in 2007 to raise the secretary of state’s salary by $4700. That move meant Clinton’s nomination was in conflict with Article I, section 6 of the Constitution, which prohibits members of Congress from raising the salary for a government job, then leaving the Capitol to fill the position themselves.
If she is confirmed, Clinton’s new salary will be $186,600 – less than the $191,300 now earned by current secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, but more than her current Senate salary of $169,300.

Was there any doubt that Hoover Republicans would sign off on a Democratic PAY CUT??? This is at the same time that 'the one who's name that is not to be spoken aloud'(Palin), has requested another 20% pay raise to $150k/yr. She received a 50% pay raise last year. She is asking for this raise at a time when Alaska is asking our government for bail out money for her state? Buy the way, she appoints the board who approves her pay raises, along with punishments for ethics violations. Alaska, Chicago......which state is really the most corrupt?

Hillary has done good work the world over, standing up for women and other liberal causes. Now she takes a pay cut to serve her country.
And all the Haters can do is whine. Maybe you didn't get the memo from Obama: It is about unity and moving the country forward.
Someday it will NOT be OK to make fun of a woman because she is powerful or has extrodinary influence. You notice no one bothered to look up Obama's future salary. But that is OK because he is a man.

NY got nothing for their money is correct. After 38 years of business I may have to fold or move out of New York like many other businesses have around here. But lets dredge out the Hudson, while companies are still polluting the river!!!
NY GOT PLENTY from Sen. Clinton – remember the top 10 pork barrell offenders identified by McCain? She was one of them! She got over $350 million of pork spending in NY. Put another way, Sen. Clinton secured the return of $350 million of federal tax dollars back to NY to fund vital projects in that state, including, among other things, the Long Island Rail Road East Side Access project which will bring the LIRR into Grand Central Station for the first time ever.
Good secretaryies aren't made from women who can't keep their own husbands happy.
It's a drop in the bucket compared to the money she and Bill will make under the table.
So, It's 186 k versus 191k, huh ? So, that's 5k less than Rice is currently making.....And Hillary would be a MUCH Better S.O.S than Rice EVER has, or ever was !! "Condi" was nothing but a "Yes" person, the whole time she's held that Job !!
Clinton will be a much smarter and will know how to Talk with Foreign Powers / and Leaders WAAY Better than the curent "Yes" person we now have.

So demwit --–Clinton gets paid $169,300 right now. And NY got a whole lot more than Illinois did with their 144 day Senator. Clinton will be around for a long time and thank goodness; she has the brains to lead Obama so he doesn't stub his toes and get us all in a lot bigger problem than we have right now!!!!!!!!!!!!
With the state of Illinois in such trouble, both politically and financially, why is Obama picking his team with people from Illinois?
I would like 10 clear, factual accomplishments that Clinton made while Senator in NY. I live in NY and am still waiting for someone to help me answer that question.
What has she done? That's a lot of money to pay someone. I know people that work hard every day for 1/4 that pay and that's without the benefits that go along with the office she held.
So how's about it? Ten accomplishments.
Every state in the country should be so lucky as to have a Senator as effective as Hillary. But that fact is evident only to those of you who take the trouble to find out the truth. But then you would have to change your minds (?) and that many of you are NOT prepared to do.
Senator Clinton will do a wonderful job as Secretary of State. I am certainly glad President-Elect Obama chose Senator Clinton. Furthermore, Senator Clinton is not concerned about the salary. She only wants to perform a public service to the American people. Senator Clinton wants to fulfill the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by serving humanity. Dr. King, Jr. said, "Everyone has the capacity to be great. Dr. King defined "greatness" serving humanity." Therefore, Senator Clinton, like Dr. King, Jr. wants to exhibit greatness by serving humanity.
