Fosella was sentenced to five days in jail for driving under the influence of alcohol.

(CNN) - The House Ethics committee said Friday they are closing their investigation of Rep. Vito Fossella over his arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol, and taking no action.

Fossella was convicted in an Alexandria, Virginia court in October and sentenced to serve five days in jail on December 8.

“On May 21, 2008, an investigative subcommittee was established to conduct an inquiry regarding Representative Vito Fossella with respect to his arrest on or about May 1, 2008 in Alexandria, Virginia for the misdemeanor criminal charge of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol," the committee said in a statement released Friday.

"The subcommittee concluded its work without a recommendation of further action against Representative Fossella. The investigative subcommittee had deferred action this matter because of the pendency of the criminal proceedings involving Representative Fossella. Representative Fossella did not seek re-election, and the Committee will lose jurisdiction over him when his term expires on January 3, 2009.

"This statement constitutes the Committee’s concluding action and statement regarding this matter.”

Fossella's arrest led to the public disclosure that he was en route from a Washington bar to help an ill daughter who lived with her mother, a Virginia woman with whom the lawmaker had had a lengthy relationship.

Fossella, who has a wife and three children in New York, was forced to abandon re-election plans after the scandal broke. His seat in the new Congress was won by a Democrat.

You guys (ch, chuck, BUSH BEGONE) are freakin' idiots!! And I think ch and chuck are the same idiot, but it's just my conservative opinion. Where in the hell do you people come from??? First off, to compare a misdemeanor such as DWI to committing perjury in a federal court are not even comparable in this world. Secondly, the Republican Party is all about what exactly?!? DWI's??? You wouldn't have to very far on the Democrat side before you start bumping into liberazl drug and alcohol users; look at Ted Kennedy for starters! And then you idiots go and elect the slimy, Obama Hussein into office expecting him to make everything perfect. Hell, he's not even in office yet and the scandals have already started. You frickin' Democrats can't even talk about who to fill his seat in the Senate without some sort of corrupt way of going about it. I expect nothing less of somebody from Chicago. Let's just start the Hussein Impeachment process right now so we don't waste 4 years going after this jerk.
