Biden starting to raise profile

VP-elect Biden will play a key role by leading the meeting to help pass the stimulus package.
VP-elect Biden will play a key role by leading the meeting to help pass the stimulus package.

(CNN) – CNN has learned that Vice President-elect Joe Biden will chair a meeting of the transition team's top economic advisers on Tuesday, as the incoming administration ramps up its efforts to piece together an urgent economic recovery package and try to sell the expected $775 billion plan to Congress.

Two Democratic officials told CNN the meeting at the Washington transition headquarters will include Lawrence Summers, President-elect Barack Obama's pick to chair the National Economic Council, a key policymaking arm within the White House that will be charged with formulating the new administration's response to the financial crisis.

The fact that Biden is leading the meeting suggests the incoming Vice President will play a key role in helping to pass the stimulus package. That's significant because Biden's low profile in recent days has sparked speculation that he will be sidelined in the new administration, especially since his strongest asset - foreign policy - is going to be largely handled by Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton.

But Biden himself said during the campaign that he was not seeking any specific task, and would not cut as wide a swatch as Vice President Cheney. Instead Biden said during the vice presidential debate that he would focus more broadly on using his four decades of experience in the U.S. Senate helping Obama govern by move legislation through Congress.

"I have a history of getting things done in the United States Senate," Biden said during his one debate with Republican Gov. Sarah Palin. "John McCain would acknowledge that. My record shows that, on controversial issues. I would be the point person for the legislative initiatives in the United States Congress for our administration."

After being conspicuously quiet in the early weeks of the transition, Biden is suddenly raising his profile to selling an expensive economic plan to lawmakers suffering from sticker shock after one government bailout after another. He appeared on his first Sunday talk show as Vice President-elect this wekeend by going on ABC's "This Week" to declare that bolder action is needed now to prevent the economy from "absolutely tanking" at this point.

The Biden Tour continues Monday night on CNN's "Larry King Live," where Biden will again declare that he's planning to be "counselor-in-chief" rather than having overarching power on any specific issues.

Biden is a fool. He doesn't know what the VP's Constitutional duties are. He doesn't know what Artilcle 1 says. He thinks FDR was President in 1929. With the economy on the precipice and the world jittery, he anounces this week the the economy is about to "totally tank". He's an idiot. Every sane person in America (i.e. Republican) is praying that Obama will remain healthy for the next 4 years. Biden is dumber than John Edwards.

If loads of Americans voted for McCain & Palin the same way you did, you would be first in line seeking some food stamps or simply begging on a street before McCain & Palin would take office in January, 2009.

Larry in Houston I think you are speaking with the majority of American's.
It really makes you wonder if what we think really matters at all. Our Government is only going to get bigger under the Democrats. Do you think our voice will matter even less with more Government? I think the people lost their voice a long time ago.
Figure out a way to put the power back in the peoples hands, and will will fix these issues, and move on the the next thing.

maybe he will raise his profile with further hand washing with the banking/credit card operatives.

yes, he has sponsored nearly unfettered card rate increases while the banks feathered his campaigns in DE.

The Republicans are in full force! Hey folks, it's kinda hard to beat on the President-Elect when he hasn't even taken office yet. After the Bush and Cheney team of mitsits, idiots and loose cannons, you have the gall to jump on an administration that hasn't even taken office yet, making groundless accusations. Now I can see why your party lost. Your blind hatred and arrogance has consumed you.

What I hate about Obama and Biden is their stupidity. These two Pied Pipers of Hamlin think writing checks to everyone is a solution. Do you know that 60% of the population pay NO TAXES and 3.3%of us do. We get up at 4:30AM to make it all work.. It is clear 60% of the USA is not starving or in need. I forecast, just like 9/11 was not widely foreseen or the Wall Street melt down, a day in the future when there is another Boston Tear Party and a Civil War again. Count me in, as I am getting closer. These two politicians got elected promising everything for free. Everyone is a hardship case. Obama and Biden know better, but want the Oval Office more than realistic solutions.

Joe i think has foreign policy expertise, but clinton's experience is way over rated. remember Bosnia, what an embarrasement & now she's sos.what a joke, but I guess Obama felt clinton would not be able to run against him in 2012, if she was appointed to his cabinet.

What sense does it make to replace paper money with more paper money when there is no real value. Look at Zimbawe whose currency is not even worth the paper it is printed on. 2009 will be a calamity which will engulf the world, civil wars every where, hungry people will be mad.

Don't worry about the vp, the vp job only matters if something happens to the president. So ultimately all decisions will be finalized by Barrack Odrama(yea I spelled it that way on purpose)so this bloq is dumb, biden isn't the president, he is a figure head, he's jus there for traditional purposes. lol..peash out

First of all, Biden has no credibility. For him to criticize Dick Cheney is an absolute joke. He has no idea what the current administration has done regarding the fight against terrorism. (Even though Bush wants to put out the welcome mat for illegal aliens). Second, the "bailout" is simply socialism at its best. No one knows where the money is going, but I know that I'm going to have to pay for the bailout and for the "spreading of the wealth" under Obama's tax plan. God help us.
