Obama is drawing the approval of 4 in 5 Americans in a new CNN/ORC poll.

(CNN) – Hawaii's always been a great spot for honeymoons - and Barack Obama, who's spending the holiday season there on the beach at Kailua, is unquestionably having one of the best in modern presidential history.

Eighty-two percent of those questioned in a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Wednesday morning approve of the way the Obama is handling his presidential transition. That's up 3 points from when we asked this question at the beginning of December. Fifteen percent of those surveyed disapprove of the way Obama's handling his transition, down 3 points from our last poll.

The 82 percent approval is higher than then President-elect George W. Bush 8 years ago, who had a 65 percent transition approval rating, and Bill Clinton, at 67 percent in 1992.

"Barack Obama is having a better honeymoon with the American public than any incoming president in the past three decades. He's putting up better numbers, usually by double digits, than Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, or either George Bush on every item traditionally measured in transition polls," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

The poll also suggests that the public approves of the President-elect's cabinet nominees, with 56 percent of those questioned saying Obama's appointments have been outstanding or above average, with 32 percent feeling the picks have been average, and 11 percent saying Obama's choices have been below average or poor.

That 56 percent figure is 18 points higher than those who said then President-elect Bush's cabinet appointments were outstanding or above average and 26 points higher than those who felt the same way about then President-elect Clinton's nominees.

"Obama walks in with nearly twice the support on the economy that President-elect Clinton had in January, 1993, and he beats Ronald Reagan as well," adds Holland.

A third say that their impression of Obama has gotten better since the election, with only 8 percent saying their opinion has gotten worse.

Presidents usually start to lose support once they assume office and start making the tough decisions. But with eight in ten currently approving of Obama, he can give away 20 or 30 points, estimates Holland, and still have a majority of the country on his side.

The CNN/Opinion Research poll was conducted Friday through Sunday, with 1,013 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Yes we can.....TOGETHER!

I must say, it's funny how some people say he will not do great as President. They don't care to give Barack Obama a chance. These are the same negative people who are disgusting with themselves and their own lives. Some of you insist he should go back to Kenya where he was born. To run for President you must first prove your birthplace is within the United States. Um....I think this has been done a long time ago. Actually, it has been proved he was born here.

And those who call him a false messiah...he is now your messiah and if you have ideas to get the US and the world going again then run for office. Until then just shut up and watch the rest of America unite to fix this mess!

It is clear President-elect Obama is a man who sets goals and gets things done. He is organized and focused. He is proactive instead of reactive. This is a welcome contrast to Bush's shooting from the hip approach. It's about time we have a true leader again.

A happy and blessed holidays to all.

Not born in Kenya, born in Hawaii.

The only people who call him a messiah are delusional conservatives.

George W Bush opened the door to 16 radical muslim Saudis to fly planes into the WTC.

So troll around you 18%, and keep delusionally attacking him. But you have an intelligent, strong, and progressive President now. Sorry if you prefer the American collapse from the last conservative administration.

AnnMM   December 24th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

The neo-con nut balls that insist on referring to PE Obama as "messiah" to try and get under people's skin, crack me up. Yes, Obama is popular. Yes, he gives people hope and we're supposed to believe those are bad things? Bwahahahahaaha

Go back to drinking the moron juice brewed by the POTUS and his crooked administration, oh and Merry Christmas.

Some folks have an axe to grind because their guy lost. Gee, it sure sucks to be you. Well, give Obama your best shot. He's a man, he can take it. If that doesn't help, you can always try primal scream therapy.

Meanwhile, the rest of us will be doing our part to repair the damage done by the Bush/Cheney administration during the past eight long, arduous years.

Barack Obama has consistently has shown the character, integrity, judgement, and leadership potential necessary to restore our nation's standing in the world, resurrect our economic vitality, fix the broken health care system, and motivate industry to shift from fossil fuel to non-polluting, renewable energy technologies.

No small feat–the bar has been set high. The American public has given Obama a vote of confidence. In one month–show time.

Because someone doesn't like Obama's transition they are a member of the KKK? Great stereotype you have there... even though he didn't oppose prop 8, has Rick Warren speaking at his big day, etc. There are other reasons other than racism for 20% of America not being thrilled with his transition thus far. Although I agree... there is a fraction of this country that will always hate him simply because of his color... which I agee is sick.

desari   December 24th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

Do you hear the MSM talking about his record approval ratings. Nope. All they are fixated on, is finding anything to link PE O to that Gov Blago (whatever).

I am appealing to Dems and people who love this country. Be very vigilant and don't believe everything the MSM tells you. Do your own research. We voted for this man because we believe in him. The right wing is foaming at the mouth trying to find anything to stick to him, but as we have seen time and time again, they always receive egg on their faces...LOL We are his foot soldiers and we should defend him against all false attacks. Once we falter, the right wing will move in to capitalize and divide us.

Honeymoon   December 24th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

rich   December 24th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

What's there to disaprove? Obama has done an excellent job choosing his cabinet and handling other issues thus far. The few who have issues with him are those whom one could never please, and that's their personal issue.

Some of you people are so stupid on here, you should be poster children for why "No Child Left Behind" was a colossal failure. The man isn't office yet! Some of you are just going to disapprove of anything he does or says to salve your own guilty consciences, which are hopelessly racist and incurably bigoted. Some of you should call your valedictorian Sarah Palin and see if Sylvan Learning Center is taking group rates.

Most of this transition has been him "revising" his campaign promises and acknowledging that they will be "delayed".. Approving of his transition means nil. I seriously doubt that 4 of 5 americans will approve of his actions a year from now. There is no end in sight for the recession, at least until 2012.

Sure, the minute he stops doing that, the polls will change, but right now... he's been doing everything right.

For those who are against him... the skeptics... he's been too good too good to be true. There's no such thing as a good polititian; a president with intelligence and integrity. As Obama said last week, it's extremely frustrating that he can't address the Blago scandal. So frustrating in fact, that once he has the opportunity to address the scandal, he goes off to Hawaii and attends his grandmothers services and Rahm goes off to Africa for a Christmas trip. Neither has the time to address the report that was released. It is so frustrating when you can't address the scandal, isn't it?

Change you can laugh at.

Unfortunately, there is still 1 out of 5 who either are still drinking the Bush Baby juice or are adamantly opposed to having a black President and to those folks we must say, get over the Georgie Bullstuff and see the light that he is a traitor who ruined America and find a KKK or League of the South meeting and talk about how supreme we White Folks are by allowing our nation to be ruined by greed, malice, and an out-of-control adminstration!!! We must realize once and for all that our government belongs to us and that racism has no place in an intelligent society.

mec   December 24th, 2008 11:42 am ET

He seems to be trying for some continuity on the international front. America has become an untrustworthy partner due to the potential regime changes every election cycle. He seems to want to maintain an American presence and credibility in World affairs. The domestic appointments are another matter. The influx of hard left apparatchiks will probably accelerate the growing internal instability on the cultural front as well as the general colapse of the economy..
In the long run, there's not much he can do about the economic colapse or the superiorty of Russia and China in military and economic spheres.

Gotta love polls.

Lets see, if we call 1000 people out of how many million. Multiply it by several mathmatic factors that could only be explained by a rocket scientist, add in demographics, type in some numbers dictating race, religon and sexual preferences.

Minus a few numbers of people who will say anything even when they know nothing, subtract those ignorant comments, ( wait, leave those in, that seems to be a majority anymore )

Ok, lets toss in some factors including weather, how much the people taking the poll are getting paid, and by whom.

Ok, we have a poll,,,, that we can make say ANYTHING we want it to say.

Of course any poll concenring Obama will be favorable,,, after all, he is the next coming.

I hope this country does well under Obama, this coming from soneone who did not vote for him,,,,,,,but please, can we at least give the man two years or three before we call him a god????????????

Go, Barack, Go ! You continue to make America proud. The 15% of Americans who don't like what he is doing since he won the election probably have their own better choices-"they themselves" would have super-duper selections, and know so much better than one of the most brilliant political minds this country has ever had the privilege of being led by. Those 15 % were also probably a portion of those who stayed at home on ElectionDay with their TV remotes, lying a couch, slugging down snacks. Yes, they certainly are in a position to criticize cabinet members and administrative team choices. Their "percentages" should not even be mentioned in any newsworthy poll.

That is how a President should be. Not just cater to the left or right, but to the majority of people. And yes, there will always be people who wont like him because of his skin color or his name, but he knows this and has accepted it.

200 yrs from now Obama will be remembered as one of the great American presidents, like Lincoln and JFK.

billy-bayou   December 24th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Is there anyone out there that is surprised by this revelation? What crap. Anything to make the "great himself" appear to rize above all others.
Take a long hard look at the Blago mess in ckicage, think Blago, Emanuel, Rezko, Ayers, Dorn,Khalidi, Rev. Wright, followers of the Sol Alinskey idolegy. Birds of a feather flock together.....Barack anyone?

Tracy M.   December 24th, 2008 10:44 am ET

After the first shock of realizing Obama invited what I would consider to be a foaming-at-the-mouth, homophobic imbecile to preside over his inauguration ceremony, I realized that this is what he meant when he kept pushing "unity" during the campaign. It really is time we got over ourselves and worked together for a common cause. Whether you believe in evolution or Adam and Eve; whether you're gay or straight, we all need to become more involved and more positive about our future. As my dad used to say, "You can't fall off the bed when you're sleeping on the floor!" Nowhere to go but up, baby.

ran   December 24th, 2008 10:42 am ET

It had to go up given what we the people have had to endure these last 8 yrs. I know Obama will do all he can to get this country working for us all. The only road blocks I see will be the Republicans especially in the senate.

Retired Army in San Antonio   December 24th, 2008 10:42 am ET

"CNN Poll: Obama transition draws approval of 4 in 5 Americans"

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

That means that CCC only polls Democrats.......OR.......there are a lot of Reublicans (gasp!) who are able to admit that they like the way he's handling his current business.

What do YOU think?????

Irma in North Carolina   December 24th, 2008 10:32 am ET

Obama will just do fine if the republicans dont give him too much trouble.

MikeH   December 24th, 2008 10:29 am ET

My hope is that he listens to, and acts upon, what the scientific minded folks, he has surrounded himself with, tell him is the best course of action to achieve the best results for the greatest number of people. And it all starts with education based upon science.

Also, take back all the money from the fat cats who plundered stole from the American people. Put all utilities back under municipal control, this 'Privatization' crap is just more looting of America.

I expect taxes. I demand that America grow up and pay for what it wants. Infrastructure is more important as a B-2 bomber (cost = 1$Billion).

Kim   December 24th, 2008 10:26 am ET

He's doing great so far, and I can't wait for him to take office!

Sandy   December 24th, 2008 10:24 am ET

Merry Christmas Mr. PE !!!!

Ray Fisher   December 24th, 2008 10:22 am ET

Thus far President Obama has been a breath of fresh air versus our current situation. The time has come for America to shift to a positive outlook on the economy, environment, energy, conservation and a general rebirth of the America Dream and Spirit. Instead of simply reporting the bad news, we should be reading the success stories of businesses who have been responsible, capable and American owned. While not against any foreign entity, America must rebuild our industrial capacity because as America goes, so goes the world. CNN is reporting Lance corporation buying Archway putting people back to work in Ohio which should be highlighted by our new President along with others which exhibit positive actions. America has is enduring bad news by the boatload so it is time we celebrated a little good news!!!

demwit   December 24th, 2008 10:21 am ET

Stephen, Missouri   December 24th, 2008 10:19 am ET

Obama has done an excellent job of picking a formidable cabinet and must be supported. I know he his cabinet will do a fine job...I know this guy has a sense of duty and a sense of history.

He is looking to be the best President ever and so I know he will work his tail off to leave a legacy of a renewed America.

Godspead mr President-elect, enjoy your holiday and know we will support you fully in the coming days.

I have always been a gay and les suppporter, but after the way you have been behaving, I am starting t wonder if you too are agents of intolerant. Obama is a smart man and he knows what he is doing...did you notice Warren already altered his website??? Get on with the program...this administration if for stron-willed not whiners.

pam Eugene OR   December 24th, 2008 10:18 am ET

It is well deserved. I am sure that 15% will have 90% of the negative things to say!

Fred   December 24th, 2008 10:18 am ET

Whether the decisions are good or bad, whether the people in the positions are effective or not, it doesn't take a genius to realize that Obama is a very smart man in the way he's choosing his appointees. He's finding intelligent people who can do the job, not putting his buddies in the positions like Bush did. Obama is not populating his cabinet with "yes" people the way Bush did.

Obama is trying to form a working, cohesive group to put this country back on the track that Bush shoved us off of.

Wow. A working government not populated with patsies and yes men. Talk about having something different after 8 years!

Ramesh from Canada   December 24th, 2008 10:17 am ET

Am I surprised? Nope. I think he will go down in American history as one of the best President ever.

I know I will break down and cry when President-elect Barack Obama takes the oath on Lincoln's bible on Jan. 20, it will be a glorious day for the whole country after the terrible eight years we all just went through. That day can't come soon enough for all of us.

APRIL CHOYCE   December 24th, 2008 10:11 am ET

BARACK IS DOING A GREAT JOB WITH THE TRANSITION!!...HE IS BEING VISIBLE TO THE PUBLIC...THE PUBLIC REALIZES THERE IS NOT AN OVERNIGHT SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS THAT WE FACE BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAPPEN OVERNIGHT BUT WANT TO SEE THAT SOMEONE IS CONCERNED AND DISCUSSING A GAMEPLAN. GREAT JOB!

Obama pays respects to dead grandmother? His racist grandmother who raised him and he threw under the bus for political gain? The racist comments she would make used to make him cringe. Forgiveness is a beautiful thing.

G.R.I.T.S - Girl Raised in the South   December 24th, 2008 10:09 am ET

Anyone who doesn't approve of the P.E.'s transition is either delusional or supports Bush (i.e., neo-con theocrats). Oops, I think delusional and Bush supporter may be one and the same!

Good job Obama and Biden! Keep us moving forward to hope and prosperity and world-wide respect.

RinFL   December 24th, 2008 10:06 am ET

Well, Why would people not approve? The man said what he would do and has done so. This man wants to be a real leader and God knows we need one.

beevee   December 24th, 2008 10:03 am ET

I hope that the public realizes that Obama cannot fulfill all his campaign promises all at once on January 20. We have to give him time to tackle one after another setting up priorities and public should be prident not to jump into media bandwagon of critcism. I also hope that the GOP and some in his own party not try to subvert his plans.

Marie banderas   December 24th, 2008 10:02 am ET

As my husband says often, when his company changes top officials, a "boss" doesnt have to know exactly what he is doing, BUT, he "does" need to know how to manage people, and get the best "thinking" heads around him..Sooo..I have full confidence in Obama, that he sure knows how to get people who DO know what they are doing, and he DOES know how to organize and manage people..that gives me a lot of hope that we have finally elected the right person to "clean up " the mess from the last 8 years, and just maybe restore our standing with the rest of the world...and if any of you nagging, complaining, haters out there think you can do a better job, why, why dont YOU apply for jobs in the Obama cabinet, better yet, why didnt YOU run for president yourself ????? Its time to unite, work together..restore and remake our United States into something workable that we can all be proud of again...
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND BEST WISHES ( FINALEY) FOR A HAPPY, NEW YEAR !!!!!!!

Tom St Paul   December 24th, 2008 10:01 am ET

4 out of 5 huh? Pretty impressive. I'm guessing the 1 out of 5 who don't approve are those negative nabobs who constantly post here about their dislike for all things reasonable.

Richard   December 24th, 2008 9:57 am ET

Only 4 years and 27 days until this moron is out of office! Unless the American people continue their moronic ways and elect him to another term. In that case, only 8 years and 27 days until this moron is out of office. That is until Democrats nominate and elect another moron.

Venia   December 24th, 2008 9:54 am ET

Obama has shown a brilliance and an openess we have not seen before. He will be an excellent president. And to all the haters out there, if you didn't find fault in Bush it is impossible for you to find fault with Obama so stop trying!

I hate to be a party pooper but, with the press fawning all over him, how could his numbers not be this high? If the press would do it's job and ask some non-softball questions, his poll numbers would be more in-line with other president-elects.

Did Palin not step in front of a microphone or camera today?

SA in OO   December 24th, 2008 9:51 am ET

I really don't have a clue how "O" will do as a president, after all he first has to clean up the mess that "W" left. But he's making a hell of a great national HR director.

And this is the part of the job that "W" never understood. In the appointments the last administration made, loyalty was the most important qualification. Things like intelligence, prior experience and the diversity of perspectives that advisors bring aren't really that important when you are running a theocracy. The questions may vary but the answers are always the same – yes sir.

mike   December 24th, 2008 9:51 am ET

Lets just hope he understands that this means he has political capitol to pursue a progressive agenda, and that he doesn't have to sell out to special interests in Washington.

Robin   December 24th, 2008 9:50 am ET

I do believe that both the Bush administration and the Obama administration have handled themselves well in the transition phase.

I did not vote for Obama, I only hope he really turns out to be the savior everyone is painting him to be.

RealityKing   December 24th, 2008 9:50 am ET

No one is surprised becuase this is whats to be expected from progressive media coverage. Great job CNN!!

abdul S   December 24th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Thanks God, America has finally found a president that they can trust to move the country forward to fix the financial mess and improve the economy to creat jobs. The President -elect has handled both his campaign and Presidential Transition well. Now, Mr Obama must meet or exceed the expectation of the American people who are struggling on a daily basis .

Dick in CT   December 24th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Excellent and as expected. I always thought he'd do a great job and this beginning is a perspective of what we can expect.
Unfortunately, no matter how good someone does, there will be those few who disapprove of whatever is done.

One wonders if those naysayers could do anywhere near as well.

kim   December 24th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Its so exciting to have a man that looks this good, is this smart, and has such a great family life to be the role model for the world. He is such an awesome figure to have in the white house. He is doing a great job. Obviously you cant please everyone, but its not about personal feelings, its about doing what is right for the ENTIRE country!

Nice Try   December 24th, 2008 9:48 am ET

***The CNN/Opinion Research poll was conducted Friday through Sunday, with 1,013 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Does anyone (CNN, for instance) realize what an absolutely low sample this is? And a sampling error of +/- 3%? Come on, guys! Try again, CNN. I know you love Obama, but please quit with the ridiculous #'s!

SLB   December 24th, 2008 9:48 am ET

No wonder.

John   December 24th, 2008 9:47 am ET

Be sure to NOT report the FACTS as to WHY Obama's transition is going so smoothly..... The BUSH ADMINISTRATION instituted new policies and procedures to make sure a new President's transition could indeed go this smoothly.

But of course..... its all about Obama being so wonderful.....

Thanks Mr. President (Bush), for once again putting into effect policies that make our country safer.

So sad and embarrasing how the media has totally lost all its credibility. they have become nothing but propaganda machines for thier various agendas.

Marty   December 24th, 2008 9:45 am ET

All I can say is: Praise God! I still think I'm in a dream because McCain and Palin won't be taking over in January. It's been an excrutiating 8 years, but good things eventually come to those who wait! :-)

WOOOOW THATS GOOD NEWS I KNEW OBAMA TEAM WERE DOING EVERYTHING.

We Approve   December 24th, 2008 9:42 am ET

We approve because so far, President Obama is doing exactly what he said he would do: rejecting polarizing ideology and putting together a centrist government of experts, who have proven track records of succes, and bringing in new blood, when it is needed. He ran one of the best political campaigns I've ever seen and this almost always means that the succeeding government will be effective. It's upsetting to a lot of people that Obama is not the bleeding heart liberal his opponents want us to believe he is. He's a moderate and he's intelligent. It's hard to effectively attack that. Attack politics isn't going to work this time.

Charlie in Maine   December 24th, 2008 9:42 am ET

Don't get me wrong. I love Obama and I am among those who are enthusiastically awaiting Jan.20, 2209.
But how about a little context here: Reagan followed Jimmy Carter, who, although less than stellar as a politician is a great person. Enough people disagreed with his policies to get Reagan elected. Clinton followed Bush Sr. who had some political shortcommings as well and mishandled an economic crisis so lost the election.
With both Reagan and Clinton we had Republicans and Democrats, respectively enthusiastic.
Obama, while may find getting us out of the mess that W has put in a lot of work, has the fortune of coming after the worst president ever. Even staunch Republicans are anxious to turn the page, if only so W will stop hurting ther brand name. You see the Republicans must do in the US what our nation has to do with the world. Get beyond George W Bush and behave in such a way that a great change is seen. One of the blessings of Democracy is that the US, by choosing Obama has already started the process and once President Obama actually starts being in charge the world will see a great difference.

For the Republicans the task is harder but not impossible. They will have to support Obamawhen they can (or risk being seen as obstacles to economic recovery) and oppose him when he goes to far.
Anyway that process cannot begin until George W Bush and the band of crooks he calls an administration becomes "history "instaed of "current events".

I think the only people not looking forward to Jan 20th are those repsonsible for cleaning after the Enauguration. Come to think of it they to will probably be happy to have a job in this economy.

daddydoogles   December 24th, 2008 9:41 am ET

Not bad for a guy who doesn't really have any power yet, hasn't actually been officially elected yet, and has no real budget for his "office of the President elect", other than what President Bush has given him. Isn't this like giving a pitcher a "Cy Young" before he even goes to spring training ? Oh....and those winds of change coming....are they really going to come with all of these re-cycled picks for cabinet and staff.
I didn't vote for him, but he DOES have my support and prayers.

Roy from Illinois   December 24th, 2008 9:41 am ET

Every four years is a different set of circumstances surrounding a President's transition to power. So it may not be comparing apples to apples to compare a statistic to another President.
But for what we see so far, Omaba has been much more visible during this transition than new Presidents I remember, and I approve of this. But, the real "test" (Biden's words!) will come after inauguration of course so let's (everyone) wait and see what happens, someone else is still the President for a few more weeks.

Sharon Kitchen   December 24th, 2008 9:38 am ET

82% approval rating.......good.

Please enjoy the vacation........

Next......the ignauguation.

Then.....all of us get to help you with all the mess left by bush/cheney.

Mike in Cincinnati   December 24th, 2008 9:35 am ET

As far as I am concerned, he has earned these numbers. So far, this is the best transition of an incoming administration that I can remember. And lucky we are, because I cannot remember a time when we needed a new administration to hit the ground running more than now.

Mike   December 24th, 2008 9:32 am ET

Attention CNN; the approval record for a transition period does not amount to anything. Please try and get some journalist integrity back – perhaps your New Year's Resolution?

Tom   December 24th, 2008 9:30 am ET

I must be the one out of five because I certainly don't approve!
Just who is asked to respond to these polls?
Is this like the Trident Gum poll? You only ask people that will answer the way you want?

mary   December 24th, 2008 9:29 am ET

I approve of the transition so far.

However, I have HUGE doubts about his innocence when it comes to his involvement with Gov. Blago.

They are deny access to emails and paperwork regarding Gov. Blago. If he and his team were truly innocent then they would release all emails and any documentation regarding their contact with blago.

Instead they put out the Obama report which is tamed down and doesn't give us all the facts.

Obama needs to disclose ALL correspondence regarding Gov. Blago.

He promised transparency and that is what we are expecting......not more political game play.

Wesg   December 24th, 2008 9:25 am ET

Veteran in Chattanooga   December 24th, 2008 9:24 am ET

I believe that he cares about American issues. People will support a leader who does what is right. The Bible clearly says when the Righteous are in Authority the people Rejoice, but when the wicked bear rule the people mourn. Through out the past 8 years under Republican rule the whole world has been mourning. National horrors and world wide horrors and wars. It seems like everybody is trying to breath again finally. I am a huge Obama supporter, but let's remember that this nation was founded on faith in GOD. Let's all look to GOD for Obama's safety and well doing.

bill for barack   December 24th, 2008 9:24 am ET

While Obama certainly deserves high ratings on his merits alone, I wonder how much of his approval is based on a negative reaction to the Bush years ?
Is it just a collective sigh of relief ?

p alfonso   December 24th, 2008 9:22 am ET

I have to admit that 82% approval for having done nothing is excellent.
All thanks to the news media specially CNN. Let's give him a couple of months until the honeymoon is over and reality settles in.
Right now Bush is the White House dog to kick around, when Obama becomes the dog he will be kick around and his approval rating will lie next to Titanic.
I would like to see the approval rating in July after he had the opportunity to deal with the mess that has progressively being created since the end of WWII.

Adam   December 24th, 2008 9:20 am ET

"OBAMA MANIA" still in the air. Regardless what Obama do, most Americans with the Obama fever will see nothing wrong. Obama is still enjoys the blindness and deafness of his followers. The question now is ...for how long or will it ever fade?

Biob Semler   December 24th, 2008 9:19 am ET

Obama does seem to be making a lot of good appointments to his cabinet. But, lets not lose sight of the fact that he is still hiding something via his birth certificate. This is not just a minor issue. It could actually cost his the Presidency. Hopefully the Supreme Court will force the issue and he will come clean.

Four out of Five? I cannot believe in an election where BHO won only slightly more than 50% of the vote, that 82% approve of him having done absolutely nothing as president. I suppose that if the poll means 82% of the people who voted for Obama approve, I would be slightly more inclined to believe the statistic.

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   December 24th, 2008 9:16 am ET

There are some high hope for this president elect. If he fails to live up to the ideals and goals that people have set for him, he could go down in history as a great disappointment. I just hope that he understands all the problems that have crept up during the campaign and now. His cabinet must be able to direct everyone to do what needs to get done as well as Obama's directives.

Stacy from Leesburg VA   December 24th, 2008 9:15 am ET

It's simple. He's coming in with a plan. He's picking good people that can provide solid input and run the political spectrum so that no one can accuse him of playing favorites. He's a centrist that inspires even the most hardened curmudgeon to action.

I find it hard to believe that GWB had that kind of approval rating when he was selected as President 8 years ago.

I just ask 10 people if they like President-elect's cabinet nominees, only 2 even knew some. You can spin your poll all you want but it does not make it fact.

Toni   December 24th, 2008 8:57 am ET

First, congrats to Obama, as he'll certainly need this once the honeymoon is over and the media attempts to look for anything to throw at him for the sake of news, even if it's a non-issue.

Also, can we please let go of Ronald Reagan? The man was only a hero to the greedy, money-grubbing, heartless cretins on the right. Ask anyone poor or black in the 80s, and RR was hardly the hero in their eyes that he's made out to be. Reaganomics is overrated, and his presidency SEVERELY overrated.

Let's hope that Obama forges his own legacy, and that it's one that's beneficial to the American people.

STEVE R   December 24th, 2008 8:57 am ET

Sounds like some type of ACORN polling if you ask me.

I cant wait until jan. 20 '09....I'm looking forward to BO sending me my check......

any pay for my fuel, home, school......our hero has arrived

he's still a chump

carol   December 24th, 2008 8:56 am ET

Of course the approval is high this is a very smart and open minded young man who is going to make a great President for this country.
We just need to give him a chance to get sworn in and start the business of getting this country back on track.....he has been working behind the scenes to get cracking straight away and I feel he will do wonders for this country in the years to come.

Maggie from Virginia   December 24th, 2008 8:51 am ET

Way to go, BO!! America is behind you.

Christy   December 24th, 2008 8:50 am ET

The news media loves to make news where there is none. It would be insane to think that anyone would want to go home for the holidays. It would be REALLY insane to think that anyone would go to a beloved Grandmothers memorial. Americans love him because he's thoughtful, intelligent, socialized, seasonable, reasonable... all the things George Bush is not.

vicki   December 24th, 2008 8:49 am ET

So much for the 20 loons who post on here bashing Obama every time they mention his name.
