Pat Robertson criticizes Bush, praises Obama

Robertson gave Bush low marks Tuesday.
Robertson gave Bush low marks Tuesday.

(CNN) – Pat Robertson is "remarkably pleased" with President-elect Barack Obama, the conservative leader told CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux – and believes President Bush’s administration has not dealt with the nation’s economic crisis in a “professional manner.”

“Well, it's hard to assess blame, but I, over the years - I hate to be critical, I mean I am a Republican, and this is the president of the party that I'm a member of - but I think we've had some serious goofs along the way,” he said on the Situation Room Tuesday.

“The Katrina matter was terrible. The rebuilding of Iraq has been terrible. The [handling] of the economy right now has been terrible. It hasn't been handled in what I would consider a professional manner.”

Robertson said history may be kinder to Bush than current opinion. “But I believe I would look at about a C-minus right now if I were grading him,” he said.

The evangelical leader has been a supporter of Bush's presidential campaigns.

Robertson said Tuesday he was optimistic about the incoming Obama administration. “I am remarkably pleased with Obama,” he told Malveaux. “I had grave misgivings about him. But so help me, he's come in forcefully, intelligently. He's picked a middle of the road cabinet. And so far, if he continues down this course, he has the makings of a great president. So, I'm very pleased so far.”

Pat Robertson is a hypocrite. I trust and hope Obama does well. Robertson is also unpopular and is trying to do a CYA by throwing Bush under the bus. PTL? – Robertson has a lot of nerve. Let's see who is among the first to jump off the wagon when Barrack does something deemed wrong or foolish.

It is absurd to claim George W. Bush is the worst president. I agree with Robertson's C- grade, though.

Kudos to Pat, for finally coming clean with what's really on his mind. Sad thing though, is to read the comments of the negative Obama-Haters who are committed to keeping our country from unifying and having the civility to "Disagree without being Disagreeable".

Even when these same people realize benefits from the future performance of the Obama-Biden Administration, they'll still cling to the security of ignorance and hate. Thank goodness they're becoming the minority voice of our country.

Remember, our Presidents are only as good most of the time as our congress is. The Dems have been incharge for the past couple of years. Obama will have some of the same problems and then again probably not as the Dems are in charge. Only God can help this Country....Stimilus package is the old Pork.

Well, I knew it would'nt be too long after this article before the haters would show themselves. So, it's not Bush who's the problem , it's all those foreign people, those lazy people, and lets not forget those people having babies so they can stand on line get all that FREE money. According to these haters if it were not for these people and the Liberals who cater to them every thing would be coming up roses. All of these problems in our nation stem from the people who vote the least, have the least amount money, the least amount of power, and thus the least amount of influence. Not to mention the fact that we spend less than 5% of our national budget giving the FREE money to these lazy, foreign, baby making people. I don't know what it is about you haters I find more amazing, your out right stupidty and ignorance or the fact that you have the gall to display it publicly. In either case, I can only wish you well, because anything else would only make me just like you.

You democrats are amusing, if nothing else. Your comments usually go something like this: "George Bush is satan himself and I hope after we prosecute him and Dick Cheney for all their crimes and give them the death sentence they both rot in hell and hey, all you republican haters on here, please stop your terrible nasty comments so we can all unite and support our wonderful new president."

I think Robertson is an opportunist jumping on the Obama band wagon. Am I supposed to make my decisions based on what Robertson, or any other "media'" person says ? I don't care what Robertson or Oprah or anyone says or whom they support. Their opinions are not less than the opinions of my mailman, child's teacher,et.al. I can decide for myself, and I do not think Bush is the worst president we have ever had.

It's amusing to see one fool betray another.

re:"Bush worst President ever" side debate-
I think if you evaluate Presidents based not necessarily on their behaviors(Nixon's criminal activities, Harding's general incompetence), but rather on how badly they screwed things up for the next generation, Bush would be the worst President in history. A surplus turned into record deficit, a war initiated on falsehoods and badly conducted, and the list goes on...
Frankly, Nixon was one of the better and most capable Presidents of the century. No more a criminal than any other, ESPECIALLY bUSH.

Hey Welcome to the Obama Show....

Your ignorance is proven in the words you write.

Obama didnt need to use it as a tool to get elected. The Bush presidency was evidence that it was time for a change all on its own.

I have many foreign friends who have become or are working on becoming American citizens (I am an American born citizen) and all of them are gainfully employed and most have more than one job.

Sending jobs overseas... guess whos doing that... Large corporations. Corporations run by Republicans... buddies of your friend Mr. Bush...

And who are all the crooks that are so greedy... Oh yeah, they're Republicans as well....

The old guard has been left behind and a progressive more tolerant nation is showing its true colors.

The comment from the "Welcome to the Obama show" individual clearly came from a Native American – since the rest of us are "foreign people" granted citizenship.

Wow! What a profile in courage criticizing Bush as he is leaving office.
Saying he is a C minus president, is like saying a burned down house need a home improvement. A blind man can see that!!!

Pleas don't start blaming Obama for the abortion thing because he is not president yet! And no president in the American history has touched , hinted or even talked about the abortion rights. For the reason that you can't please the religion nuts without taking the rights of woman away. There are still more woman in America then there are christians. Sorry for you but the majority rules.

    @ Brian
What are you talking about Bush made America safer after 9/11 yea fine oke....its the rest of the world he made dangerous for EVERYBODY. Americans being attacked in several western societies . Let me guess you forgot about the London bombings or Madrid bombings which now have been proven direct corrolation due to Bushs handling the international community. But in your mind of thinking thats oke because they are not american.

People we need a WORLD leader, and for 3/4 of the world, that will be OBAMA.

Wish the world and its citizens happy holidays

Roger – In your struggles try to remember the fact that there have been NO terrorist attacks on our soil since September 11, 2001 for starts. I know that's a long time for Democrats but try really hard. I will grant there have not been many more but there's the "biggie". American lifes may not be more important to you than the "innocent Iraqis" but there you go.

"The liberals, who have had control of congress for the last 2 years, put out legislation and made Americans believe that everyone should have a nice house and nice things"

Last I heard, the housing crisis started actually showing up at the end of 2007, when the recession started happening. So that would have been 6 years of Republican policies (which also stressed home ownership, and little to no regulation or enforcement), and 1 year of Democratic control. No doubt you think the Congress completely reversed all the events of the past 6 years, in the space of less than 1 year.

The rest of your comments are the same. Weak attempts at straw man arguments.

Trust me, there's lots of blame to go around, on both political parties. As well as on the businessmen who made incredibly stupid loans to people who should never have gotten them, to the people who took the loans, without any planning on how to actually live with the consequences.

Blaming is a fun way to kill some time, but how about we spend more time implementing fixes for the mess, instead?

    To "blah-blah-Obama Show':

What led to this country's imminent financial collapse was the elimination of government oversight, government regulation, watchdog programs, and plain common sense.

It started with Ronald Reagan. We stopped gathering revenues to finance our infrastucture and started borrowing against the future.

We allowed very greedy people to loot the nascent wealth of this country up to the point it has been bled white.

The future has now arrived. A economy based upon service industry and borrowing against credit cannot stand for very long. Collapse is inevitable, and that is what is happening.

What is really criminal is that the people who brought this on, knew it would happen, that's why they bundled all the insolvent debt into investment 'instruments' and sold them all over the world to spread out the debt as a global Ponzi scheme, hatched here in the good ol US of A.

Don' it make U proud to be an American.
