(CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama's traditional Hawaiian Christmas includes opening presents with his family this morning, and dining on turkey and ham tonight.

The Obamas had spent past Christmases with the president-elect's grandmother Madelyn Dunham, a Hawaiian native, who died earlier this year. Obama attended a memorial service for Dunham earlier this week.

Sorry there Jack, meant to say ELECTORAL LANDSLIDE.

Merry CHRISTmas to you out there in anal retentive land.

Oh, and by the way, President Barack Hussein Obama.

Ann   December 25th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

This is disgusting.. who cares what they eat?

I kind of believe what "Irritated in Fl" says and the article confirms "grandmother Madelyn Dunham .... who died earlier this year." How early? I also thought they played this to get sympathy on Nov. 2nd before the election day. They used her again 1-2 days ago when the Blagojevich 'report' was released but Obama went to the ceremony. This guy is evil.

Jim in PA   December 25th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

I have enjoyed watching the new First Family relax in Hawaii...a well deserved vacation before the new President receives the worst presents imaginable from the worst president imaginable...George Bush! And eat well tonight...you will need your strength.

I have also enjoyed watching the pictures of Obama with no shirt. Great body!

Proud American   December 25th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

Joe, your a complete village Idiot and I'm willing to bet your spending today alone. His name is Mr. President Obama. Merry Christmas idiot.

Dahlia   December 25th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

But, but, you forgot to mention the side dishes! Poi, perhaps? Or corn bread?

And, was their meal eaten off bananna leaves, porcelain china with gold flatware, or what? I know-stuffed coconuts.

And, what was everyone wearing? The weather must be much warmer in Hawaii, so my guess would be lava-lavas and sarongs.

Maybe you can publish a detailed itinerary of his family's whereabouts every day, what they eat, etc. Better do it while you can, because all this info wll become unavailable once Obama is prez.

Electress   December 25th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Must be sweet, 9 million dollar estate, warm weather, and plenty of food!

Rose from Ohio   December 25th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Merry Christmas to all:

May we all be blessed with strength and wisdom, in these days and times.
I'm on the Obama honeymoon as well. No, I don't agree with all the choices he's made so far. Yet, I do believe he is going to make the best decisions possible for our great Country.
All the hurt, anger and disappointments of the past eight years will soon fade in memory.
No hate bashing anyone. Looking to the future.
Harping on the past, blasting the Pres.-elect before he takes office, will only cloud my head. We need clear minds and hearts to forge ahead.
May the Good Lord have mercy on all, HIS mankind.

Jack   December 25th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

Amber what election are you referring to? A landlside? is 52% a landslide? He just barely beat out Bush's numbers in 04'. Would you call Bush 04' a landslide? You Obamabots have got to realize that many people did not want him as President. And no they weren't all rednecks or racists. He is doing a GREAT job creating a good mix of cabinet members to appease those who were not for him.

Of course you can get watermelon from Kenya. It is our motherland. It's where life started. And by the way, I am African American and I love watermelon and chicken. If you think you are offending someone, you are not. The bottom line is that you now have a black president and you have to deal with it – the watermelon and chicken and every other "black" food. Sorry guy but your talk is not going to get Obama out of the White House.

It was America's ancestors that brought us blacks over here and now we are here to stay so deal with it. By the way, I thank them for bringing us over here because God has done amazing things for my grandparents' generation and many to come.

You don't like black people – then move. Soon, people of color will consume the American population. Hispanics are growing in numbers. So diversity is here to stay buddy. Being that the earth consists of 3/4 colored, you are going to have to find a remote location in order to get away from diversity.

God bless Obama this Christmas season and God Bless America.

mark from New York   December 25th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

to kenneth queens.
i want you to remember that grand parents were not american. check the american history. you may not be american because your mother and father are chinese. flushing is a chinese area.

Joe   December 25th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

Who cares. CNN sucks. Is osama inviting you to dinner? It would seem only fair since you handed him the election.

H From Seattle   December 25th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

While I wish the President Elect and his family a happy holiday, I am getting a little tired of hearing so many irrelevant details about his life. What he is eating, how he looks in swimming trunks, what he and his wife are wearing to the inauguration...what I really care about is what he is going to do with the economy.

get real dude   December 25th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

To: Irritated in Fl

Stop reading so many mystery novels. You sound creepy and morbid!!!

virginia for obama   December 25th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

There right!. . . I'm an Obama supporter too. but you don't have to report everything his does like whats for dinner.

Charlene   December 25th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

To all the negative bloggers out there, I thought this was the season for peace on Earth goodwill towards men. The day is not over so I pray you can find the true meaning of Christmas and family. Where are your Chrstian values.

heartlight3   December 25th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Obama's grandmother was not a Hawaiian Native. Generally a person is a native of the place where they were born. She had lived here for a long time, but she was not born here.

Amber   December 25th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Irritated in Fl:

You are the worst kind of human being. How DARE you speak ill of the dead. What a model Christian you are.

Also, nice try but Obama didn't need any sympathy vote to put him over the top as he won in a LANDSLIDE.

Say it with me: President Barack Hussein Obama.

World leaders will not respect a tabloid president!!   December 25th, 2008 2:10 pm ET

Please stop treating this guy like a celebrity!!!!!!! I don't want to know what my presidents body looks like in a swimming suit and neither do 90% of the world leaders!!!!

He's our President.........NOT.........a Hollywood celebrity!!!!!!!!!

Local girl   December 25th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

With due respect, Madelyn Dunham was NOT a Hawaiian native. To be a Hawaiian native, you need to be born in Hawaii and have Hawaiian bloodlines. She was born in Kansas and relocated to Honolulu. There are few "Hawaiians" left. Most of us are considered "Kama'ainas" (those who have lived on the islands for a long time).

Janice   December 25th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

@irritated

And your proof would be???

man of peace   December 25th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Irritated in FL,

I feel for your soul and the hatered within your heart. Something very bad must have happened to you somewhere in your life. For you to spew such hatered on Chistmas Day is very sad. The rest of us feel for you and hope that you find a light in your life. I wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your loved ones and peace in your heart. That is my Christmas prayer for you.

William A. Schaedler from St. Louis   December 25th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

But, he left out the fried chicken and watermelon. I'm sure that somewhere in the world you can get a watermelon on Christmas. I bet you can get them from Kenya.

deborah, WV   December 25th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

I hope that our President-Elect and his beautiful family have a wonderful Christmas!

I also hope that thanks to the new direction Obama is taking our country WE CAN ALL HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Chad M.   December 25th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

Dang, I thought the Obamas were like everyday people. Everyone I know is having soup to eat, but this man who claims to be liike us is having an expensive turkey and ham dinner. So much for being like the rest of us, eh?

dave   December 25th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

hmm. ham. I guess he ain't muslim. that is if no one "misspoke" in this article.

.....and ease up folks. just funnin'

man of peace   December 25th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

To Roger in Ga,

That was a wonderful thing you said and I pray that all of us take note. You're a man of principle and faith. You make us all proud to be an American. Peace to you and your family. MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Jack   December 25th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

CNN- get off this guys jock. You had a headline earlier that said "Obama has a good body. . . get over it". He is not an American Idol star or a celebrity. You are becoming as shell of yourself, Nat'l Enquiresque.

ynotoman   December 25th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

It sounds a great dinner – fit for a great president

man of peace   December 25th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

God Bless you and MERRY CHRISTMAS Mr. President-Elect and family. God bless you and MERRY CHRISTMAS Mr. President and family. God bless and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all of us. PEACE on Earth and good will to ALL MEN. Amen

jimmie brenner   December 25th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

On this Christmas day, this 75 year old grandmother truly wishes the very best for our president elect and his family. God and the world knows he is in for the ride of his life. Yes, our country is in a huge mess, and will be for some time to come. The blame game????? Hindsight is every thing isn't it? On this day, I also wish the best for President and Mrs. Bush. jb

Malik48   December 25th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

Kenneth M. of Flushing Queens, were you born stupid or did you grow into it.President Elect Obama is more American then you are and three times are smart. No matter what you say about this man he is your new President along with the 62% of the American people who voted for him,so stop hating and enjoy what you have left of your insane life.

CynicLgrrl   December 25th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

I wish they'd set another place for me. , ::she said, slurping her ramen noodles::::: I would love nice dinner right now .

Lauren   December 25th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

CNN = National Enquirer

Just another example of CNN reporting tabloid news.
I am sure CNN will not let this past thier moderators, but if they do,,,,

Are we going to hear about every little trivial thing Obama does?

CNN, why do you not report on the people who have nothing to eat on Xmas, or report on those who can not afford a simple Barbier doll for thier kids on Xmas morning?

Why not report on the missions who feed underprivledged, or the churches that open thier doors for the homeless.

Why must we hear tabloid journalism about Obama.

Dave   December 25th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

Who cares? Return people's money as a Christmas gift who financed his campaign. People have hard time feeding their own and someone else is splurging their money.

Irritated in Fl   December 25th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Gee. Died earlier this year. Yeah, Oct. 21st. Then the cremated remains were stashed and it was announced Nov 2 that she had JUST died in order to get Obama the sympathy vote. What a pathetic weasel. And this is the kind of lying, deceitful filth that you people want leading our nation. When he went o visit his "ailing" grandmother...she was already dead! The state of Hawaii needs to quit protecting this devil.

B.O.FAN   December 25th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

Yammy..... I wish I was invited. Buy the way do the media has to report on everything OBAMA does? Get a life and leave the president Elect alone enjoy his vacation.
Obama farts, it's got to be reported. Obama go to the bathroom, it's on the political ticker. What is wrong with you? Ohhh i forgot, Nothing to report on

roger in ga   December 25th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

MERRY CHRISTMAS to the PE and all of his family. I am pleased that you are able to enjoy some down time before you step into the mess on 20 Jan of 2009.

I did not vote for you but as Senator McCain said on election night, the majority have spoken and you are now my President Elect so I will support your efforts to turn our country and economy around. I may not always agree with your decisions but you will still be our leader.

Good Luck and GOD speed President Elect Obama

mike   December 25th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Were actually gonna have a president that reads, and is smart. He might listen to those who disagree with him sometimes, and inspire people. Just one thing; can he start any sooner?

ACE   December 25th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Finally! A president that eats the same thing for Christmas that I eat! I love this guy!

Charles from Atlanta   December 25th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Is this news?

Blue balloons   December 25th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Merry Christmas, Obama Family! The greatest Christmas gift of all for me this year. Obama in the Whitehouse, and a new dawn for America.

david   December 25th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

Just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and a wonderful Holiday Season regardless of your religion or faith. Keep good thoughts in your hearts for our country and her people. God Bless each and all.

nitpicker   December 25th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

I may be a nitpicker, but I thought Mrs. Dunham was born in Kansas, which would make her a Kansas native, but a Hawaii resident. Maybe CNN needs to hire a new copywriter. Nevertheless, I hope all have a wonderful Christmas,

cmars   December 25th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Kenneth M.
a) Your spelling sucks, so you obviously haven't been the recipient of an American education – perhaps you were the one born elsewhere? Or 'elseware', as you like to put it...

b) Get over it. Americans come in all colours now. You might be bitter because old racist rednecks like yourself are on the way out, but the rest of the world is happy to see you go! You may have 'thought' he was Muslim, but that puts you in a group with a lot of angry, loud, ignoramuses unable to accept progress. Happy holidays, loser!

DEVINDER PUNJWARIA, TORONTO,CANADA   December 25th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU AND YOUR LOVELY FAMILY,
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Esther in VA   December 25th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

David   December 25th, 2008 11:38 am ET

I'm very glad to know that our new President and his family are gonna eat some turkey for Christmas. Thanks CNN for reporting these news. ^^

Marilyn   December 25th, 2008 11:38 am ET

Kennth M of Flushing – get over it!

George   December 25th, 2008 11:36 am ET

For the faithful of many religions there are prohibitions on eating certain foods. For example those who follow Islam or Judaism do not eat pork.

Nuff said.

Merry Christmas to all.

Andrea/ CA   December 25th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Kenneth m. You are a jerk. You are NOT informed, and you a re a hater. he is not a Muslim, and so what if he where?
Merry Christmas, anyway.

Merry Christmas, new First Family, and all the blessings of the New Year.

WIlly Brown   December 25th, 2008 11:07 am ET

[it's ok, i'm from arkansas. we lub crow and spam]

Kenneth M. of Flushing Queens   December 25th, 2008 10:57 am ET

Ham! I thought he was a Muslim. That does not sound American. What country is this guy from? Oh yeah, the country of Hawaii. Or did he just get a birth certificate from them. Matt or Irish Boston, can you tell us again why Hawaii issues birth certs to people who were born elseware? And this whole natrual born thing. What is that all about?

Ray Fisher   December 25th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Ms. Madelyn's empty chair must be heartbreaking for our new President along with his bitter-sweet year as a whole. But as every life must adapt to changes, when an old way of life ends a new beginning opens to a brighter day. Good Bless our new President and his family always and grant him the strength and wisdom to resurrect a nation!!!
