Rahm Emanuel faces possible subpoena

Gov. Blagojevich's attorney urged the Illinois House panel to issue a subpoena to Barack Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
Gov. Blagojevich's attorney urged the Illinois House panel to issue a subpoena to Barack Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

(CNN) - The Illinois House panel considering impeachment charges against Gov. Rod Blagojevich has received a letter from the governor's attorney urging the panel to issue subpoenas to more than a dozen potential witnesses, including incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

Steve Brown, spokesman for Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, confirms to CNN that the impeachment panel received the letter from Blagojevich attorney Ed Genson.

"The committee has taken that letter under advisement," said Brown, noting the panel's next meeting is Monday morning.

Even if the panel moved ahead with such subpoenas, however, they could still be blocked by prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, who has previously expressed concern about the impeachment panel interfering with his ongoing criminal probe.

Nevertheless, the maneuvering by Blagojevich's camp could provide a distraction for President-elect Barack Obama and top aides just days after they tried to turn the page on the matter by issing an internal investigation claiming no wrongdoing by the transition team.

Genson, Blagojevich's attorney, did not immediately return a call seeking comment on his letter.

Hard to believe so many pouty Repubs are reading CNN. Basically, people who know nothing about politics. Any conversations between Obama's people and Blogo have been taped. Had there been anything involving them, they would have been named in the indictment. Grow up Repubs. Your guy lost, get over it and enjoy the coming rebirth of our country, following your leaders disastrous tenure.

To Obama supporters, I hope that you will enjoy witnessing the coming inauguration as I will be.

To Obama haters/enemies, please don't make a mountain out of a molehill.

    To Blagojevich,
If you are not guilty of any wrongdoings, evidence seems to indicate that it wasn't because of your lack of trying.
If you are guilty of any wrongdoings, there are no words to describe what a lowlife you really are.

Here we go again. Won't be long and repubs will be crying for a special prosecutor.

But here's the problem; you can't impeach Obama until he takes office, and once he takes office all he has to do is claim executive privilege. So can Emanuel and anyone that has been near Obama. All thanks to Bush/Cheney.

This is going to be rich. The 20% are going to stark raving mad for the next eight years.

  8. BUSH BEGONE NOW SAY 75% OF AMERICANS!

At least Rhambo is not declaring "executive privilege" like we have had to listen to from the Reptiles for the last 8 years when they were subpoenaed.

But I forgot, the Reptilian party is above the law, it only applies to the "little people"!

Why is this still such an ongoing story? Haven't people heard that the Obama staff conducted an internal investigation of the Obama staff, and that the Obama staff concluded that the Obama staff did nothing wrong? come on, people, get over it.

Hey Emanuel your starting to look like a GOP candidate. Beware Karl Rove will be after you in a heartbeat. You have been around long enough to know that you are being watched like a hawk. If it is true that you tried to to pull some shenanigan about that seat I hope it they get it out in the public after your old house seat is filled and the president Obama kicks your A– out of the white house. We have had enough shady Jakes in the white house the past 12 yrs. If you act like them go join them.

    @ Mike,

"get ready for some serious buyers remorse liberals!"

Actually, liberals don't feel any remorse as they feel everything they do is right no matter how wrong it is. They have no morals to know that they are doing wrong. Just look at some of their comments on this post. They think that Obama is the untouched messiah, but he is just another politician that fooled the most people.

Bla, Bla, Bla, Bla, Bla. I can't believe how ignorant so many of you are. High School dropouts? On prescription drugs? It is certainly better to keep your mouth shut and let people think that you are stupid, than to open your mouth and prove how stupid you really are.
You must be on some of Rush's drugs.

It is so crazy how any article with Obama or a team member's name attached to it seems to attract the looney tunes by the barrel full. It's like people sit at their computer screens scouring the internet for Obama related articles so they can vent their hatred and distrust. How sad is that? They even do it on unrelated articles. They typically do not even seem to have read the article to know the details. All they do is sound off as though an internet blog is going to alter the fact that Obama will be sworn in as our next President on 1/20/09 based on a landslide election by 69 million plus voters. Get over it. If you cannot, then start searching for your 2012 candidate and begin work on electing her to office. This constant demonizing of Obama and his team is counterproductive and goes no further than these message boards. Do something productive. Donate to your local food bank. Make a difference. You'll feel better. I promise. God Bless, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

    Advice for President-elect Obama.

Just don't get distracted. It is really up to you how far you are willing to go with this charade.

Apparently people in Illinois are not very interested in the survival of Americans and our country.

They are far more concerned with the BS coming from their so-called governor/attorneys. After all, didn't the idiots in Illinois elect Blobovich?

  22. Where's The Change????

I'm at the point now that I don't care if Obama becomes president anymore. The war is still going to go on since he stated he has no plans stopping it once he's in office. He has put off plans on raising taxes on the rich his first year. He hires Gates to stay on from the Bush administration as Defense Secretary and will be taking advice from Bush advisors about money. Hillary will be our new secretary of state. He's picked Arne Duncan to serve as education secretary. Duncan currently runs the Chicago school district, how corrupt is he? The governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson, Obama's choice to be commerce secretary, is under the
same type of Chicago "pay to play" investigation by the FBI as reported by the Washington Post. Obama chose a pro-life pastor for his inauguration. Obama's home state governor is in a major scandal trying to sell Obama's senate seat. This has really given us a taste of just how corrupt the Chicago political machine is, the same machine that Obama is a product of! Obama still has many unanswered questions with this governor,......what's next????

The guy I voted for now has a darkening cloud over his head and growing darker by the day!

I only have one question, where the hell is the CHANGE & TRANSPARENCY I voted for????

And he said McCain was the same as Bush. I voted for a crooked bozo and got one.

Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was nominated by a Republican for the Illinois US Attorney position. He's been involved in a number of high profile cases prosecuting Democrats, Republicans and the mafia. He's known for being non-political as well as an able and tough prosecutor. He's calling the shots and Obama has responded as requested in investigating his internal staff and when Obama could issue the report. Fitzgerald has said that neither Obama or his staff are involved in wrongdoing and he should know.

Blagojevich attorney Ed Genson will do anything he can to throw dust in the air and confuse the issue. Fitzgerald is in charge. Blagojevich should stop acting like an idiot and try to cut a deal if he possibly can. If not, then think of the people of Illinois and resign.

Blago appears to be a disgrace. Now he is distracting valuable time and energy from the Obama team in order to save his own skin. Isn't there any reasonable way to stop this? To the Obama haters: Educate yourselves. WE all need this guy to suceed. This is not a Repub vs Dem issue.
