Rahm Emanuel faces possible subpoena

Gov. Blagojevich's attorney urged the Illinois House panel to issue a subpoena to Barack Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
Gov. Blagojevich's attorney urged the Illinois House panel to issue a subpoena to Barack Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

(CNN) - The Illinois House panel considering impeachment charges against Gov. Rod Blagojevich has received a letter from the governor's attorney urging the panel to issue subpoenas to more than a dozen potential witnesses, including incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

Steve Brown, spokesman for Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, confirms to CNN that the impeachment panel received the letter from Blagojevich attorney Ed Genson.

"The committee has taken that letter under advisement," said Brown, noting the panel's next meeting is Monday morning.

Even if the panel moved ahead with such subpoenas, however, they could still be blocked by prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, who has previously expressed concern about the impeachment panel interfering with his ongoing criminal probe.

Nevertheless, the maneuvering by Blagojevich's camp could provide a distraction for President-elect Barack Obama and top aides just days after they tried to turn the page on the matter by issing an internal investigation claiming no wrongdoing by the transition team.

Genson, Blagojevich's attorney, did not immediately return a call seeking comment on his letter.

I thought none of Obama's people talked to Blogojavich. Why would they issue someone a subpoena that had nothing to do with the situation? Makes one wonder.

This does not mean Emanuel is automaticly guilty or that ther is something there for sure but the committee would like to ask their own questions to make sure there is nothing there. It's funny though all the democrats are swearing there is nothing there and the republicans are swearing they are dirty. I'm not sure one way or the other. I do agree there as been some changes to the story but that still does not mean they were part of the governor's scheme. But there is way too much partisanship here. with the republicans they swear Obama is not a natural born citizen (he is) and the democrats swear bush is an idiot and can't do anything right. ( he must have he has the highest job in the land) Like with the end of term ceremonial appointments he just made almost everyone is raising hell how dare he appoint someone into Obama's term but when Obama does it at the end of his term(s) everyone will swear how wise and noble it was for President Obama to leave the new admissistration with such great people. I swear some of you are so partisan to your party that if they switched parties and ran for office there would be democrats voting to David Duke and republicans voting for Jessee Jackswon.

    Hello Democrats!!!!

I've always said Rahm Emanuel is a scumbag of a Democrat, the reason Democrats stick with him is that because he has the DNC money. Hope Rahm ends up in jail and we don't need Rahm 's crap. He reminds me of Rove.

Obama is a puppet. He didn't choose his chief of staff, he was told to pick him. Look closely at the next president to see who is pulling his strings – Clinton, Kennedy, Pelosi, unions, Chicago scum.

I wish most of those who are obviously misreading this report to take the time and attention to see what is said: Blago's attorney wants the legislative impeachment body to subpoena Obama's team to prove his innocence of wrong doing, thus, clearing him of wrong doing. What does that say about Blago's attorney and the Obama's team? Blago's attorney is not calling on the Obama's team to prove his guilt of lying and stealing. He is using the President Elect as proof of his innocence.
Seems to make some sort of sense. Whether Republican or Democrat please look and examine and don't be fooled by or led by your political preferences. That is how we are in the mess we are in now. They all politicians think that we low information voters and do not pay attention to the facts.

The First three comments I have read I guess are people who didn't vote for Obama. And the sad apart about the whole situation is that you want Obama to fail sooooooooo bad that you blame Obama for this whole situation and he has already been cleared. If this man(Emanual) is guilty then it will come out in the open. You have so much hatred for the President Elect that it doesn't matter what the story is, if it is negative you are ready to comment about it even if it has nothing to do with Obama directly. If Obama gets a puppy and he poops on the White house lawn. Low and behold I want to read the comment on that one. EWW EWW President Obama dog pooped on the lawn Change we can believe in. Come on people get a life no one on here has not made a bad decision in there life so don't point the finger unless you ready to point it back at you.

Barack Obama will be just fine. This is a typical good ole boy politics... :) These good ole boys are not going to throw in the towel easily! They are going to go down fighting. Republicans AND Democrats. These good ole boys are going to have a tough time accepting that their type of politics will NO longer work!

It's a new era Obama has heralded in with his campaign. I seriously believe that from now on politicians had better learn... and quickly... that the People have spoken. The status quo will not be accepted! Obama is a man of the people FOR the people. And that is what we expect from all our politicians. If they are not part of the solution, we are going to consider them part of the problem! It may take a while for some of them to get the picture... but I suspect they will get with the program when they see that the old drama will not fly. :)

It's a new era! Seriously.... jump on the wagon or get run over at the gait! *LOL*

lol....anyone who thinks these guys are "hot" probably share some of their personality traits...it's a little strange seeing the President-elect showing that much skin...has he not had enough attention? I think the wife might be concerned.

:) Get over it, Repubs! This continual whining is getting old! Stop foaming at the mouth and look at the bright side of all these issues. There is absolutely NOTHING that anyone in Obama's team can do that will hold a candle to the crap Bush and Cheney have done!

Suck it up.... Seriously.... Obama will be just fine.... so you might as well accept it. and get with the program instead of looking for scandals to bring down this man WE voted into office... just remember, he is YOUR man as well! *LOL* Like it or not!!!

Ah progress. The Republican witch hunt begins before Obama takes office.

The right wing thugs aren't happy from their prior eight years of our country's destruction. They jump for joy in a running start to try and wreck another Democratic presidency.

Country first? Hell no Republican power first.
