RNC chair candidate sends out controversial Obama song

(CNN) - A candidate for Republican National Committee chairman said Friday it was clear the content of a CD he sent committee members for Christmas - that included lyrics from a song called “Barack the Magic Negro” - was intended as a joke.

“I think most people recognize political satire when they see it,” Chip Saltsman told CNN. “I think RNC members understand that.” Saltsman, a former chair of the Tennessee Republican Party, was a top advisor to former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, and managed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign.

The song, set to the tune of “Puff the Magic Dragon,” was first played on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show in 2007. Its title was drawn from a Los Angeles Times column that suggested Obama appealed to those who feel guilty about the nation’s history of mistreatment of African-Americans. Saltsman said the song, penned by long-time friend Paul Shanklin, should be easily recognized as satire directed at the Times.

The parody CD sent to RNC members this Christmas, first reported by The Hill Friday, is titled “We Hate the USA”, and includes songs referencing former presidential John Edwards and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, among other targets.

This is GREAT. The country is becoming more diverse than ever and the RNC does something like this. I guess they NEVER want to win an election ever again. Fine, I'd like to order Obama in 2012, Hillary in 2016 and shoot my stuffed animal in 2024 before I would vote for a racist RNC member. They are hilarious. They expect us to believe that they are for the people? Sorry, college educated, youth, Black, Hispanic, many many educated White males & females, and even gays who are upset over Warren will vote for Obama before they will vote for an RNC member. I think this might be the last nail in the coffin and it is great. Everyone should read Allen Raymond's How To Rig An Election if you really want to see how the RNC and their crews work. No matter how many lies the RNC, Blago (yes him, not all Dems are great people either), Limbaugh listeners (who can't pay their bills yet making this man Limbaugh rich) spread, the O-Team will prevail.

The RNC chair is not a childish man but also a real sick man who is not interested in the future of this country. His angry and nasty look shows that he wants to be a destroyer at all cost. Since many republicans and democrats are uniting to forge a coalition that restaures the image and strengths of this country, his action will be useless

Typical, ridiculous Republican nonsense, from the Moronic Presidency, of Bush/Cheney and their fans !! I hope the normal Republicans, and I know there are some out there, will shunt this Bozo, aside. He doesn't even deserve to be dog-catcher !! I know there are reasonable Republicans out there and I hope they reclaim their Party, soon.

The first call to battle for 2012. The Republicans need to do more of this political satire. Bush dug the ditch and ran us into the Iraq quagmire; then into the deeper hole of the depression now upon us. The Republicans need to show their sense of humor to look forward to 2012! More anti-black, more anti-Hispanic jokes, please. The Bush hole still isn't deep enough to bury the Republican Party.

And the supposedly "devout christians" wonder why Democrats attack the half-wit when they defend her as being ready for national office.

Start first by looking at Saltzman's antics and MAYBE you louts will get a clue!!!

At least we are not hypocritical about our disdain for what's her name and her lack of intellectual curiosity. Oh and it is not "hate", she is too pitiful to illicit that much emotion.

This is the first time I voted Democratic., but it won't be the last.
I can never vote for a party that is so racist and only seems to deal in lies.
They are supposed to be a Christian party, but their actions are anything but Christian. Shame on them.

No matter how many "satirical" (i.e. racist) songs people like Saltsman create and distribute, it will not change the election results. In his acceptance speech, Barack Obama summed it up quite nicely: "To those Americans who didn't vote for me...I will be your president, too."

This, from Limbaugh. How does the Radical Right (or the base of the Republican Party) reconcile his life with their supposed 'values'? He was a 'loafer on welfare'. He went to treatment for being a drug addict. He was busted at an airport with viagra he had no prescription for, trying to board a flight to Trinidad, which is a hotbed of low-rent prostitution. This is a guy you people look to for morality? Nice job.
