Most of the power has restored to Oahu. The rhythm of daily life is taking shape, and people are moving along with enjoying the remainder of Saturday. Waikiki got power soon after daylight, and the major shopping malls had power by 10:30 am.

I wish it was possible to institute a requirement that a poster have an IQ in triple digits (that's 100 or over) before being allowed to post.

Come to think of it, that wouldn't be a bad requirement for VOTING, either. Had it been in place in 2000 or 2004, we wouldn't have been subjected to eight years of the fascist oligarchy of the Busch Reich.

Wow, people chill. This was was a big deal here and the only news reports are concerned with Obama. 900,000 people were without power, traffic was scarily snarled for hours, the water pumps were down, and the food supply was in danger. Oahu is an island with few options – this was a power failure that could have been solved in minutes in any other state connected to a grid. Where are the mentions of energy independence and alternative technologies? Frankly it's a good thing Obama was here to experience the utter fragility of our energy infrastructure. I'm sure he will be thinking more about energy policy.

If he wanted the paparazzi to leave him alone, surely there could have been a simpler way.

Earth to the RNC: the ‘n’ word is offensive to anybody who has been paying attention to the cultural development of race relations in the US for the past 50 years. The RNC appears to be destined to complete the termination of the GOP that was begun by G W Bush and nearly completed by John McCain. Way to go, RNC, please keep up the good work. I can hardly wait for the day when the mention of the phrase ‘Republican Party’ is met with the questions: what’s that?

Hope the Secret Service was on the ball!

Took a full 12 hours for Waikiki and Diamond Head to get their power back up.

Lost power around 6:30 p.m., and Waikiki usually starts to liven up after dark...too bad for the tourists.

We're up and functioning just fine now.

You disappoint me – are they using candles or flashlights? I thought the press pool would make sure that they had immediate access to vital information of that sort!

I'm surprised that Pat Robertson, or some other unstable evangelical christian monkey preacher hasn't claimed that the lightening storms were part of a supernatural warning.
