Obama could inherit Gaza crisis

Barack Obama reiterated his support for Israel when he visited Sderot in July.
Barack Obama reiterated his support for Israel when he visited Sderot in July.

(CNN) - As the violence rages in Gaza, President Bush is putting the blame squarely on Hamas, while President-elect Barack Obama is keeping a low profile and sticking by his belief that "there is only one president at a time."

But with less than a month until the inauguration, the president-elect could inherit an international crisis - one he will not be able to defer to Bush.

Israeli airstrikes pummeled Gaza for a third day Monday as part of what Israel's defense minister called "an all-out war" with Hamas. Israel says the attacks are a response to escalating rocket attacks against southern Israel.

Israel has tanks on the border and has approved the call-up of 2,000 reservists, but there was no indication of a Israeli ground incursion Monday. However, Israeli politicians say that all options are on the table.

Could inherit it? Could? Get real........its not like Bush & Company are going to do anything but fan the flames when it comes to events in the Middle East. Obama will have the most extensive "to do" list of anyone ever coming into the office.

  2. SOMEONE PLEASE THROW ANOTHER PAIR OF SHOES @ GW!!!

talk about all the financial crisis and economic meltdown GW handed down as a parting gifts to american families!

Obama is just getting the lion's share of GW Bush ineptitude!

no wonder GW is not saying anything; because his words are no longer relevant!!!!!

This is serious business and the American people had better recognize that the RIGHT thing to do is stand with President-elect Obama to help find solutions to these crisis that he is inheriting. I know he is going to give it all he has and I am sooo glad Obama is the man and not McCain who I still don't think is up for the job at hand. And, of course Obama will stand with Israel against Hamas and others.

TO GRIT – Perhaps you should do some more research on Israel which reclaimed it's Promised Land. And don't get your hopes up regarding Obama and education. His friend, Ayers, has his hands into that. Obama's goal is to get us to accept Marxism as a better form of government. Looks like he may have won you over already.

New Yorker said...Al, NY NY – What is so refreshing about President Bush is that he doesn't make his decisions based on what certain people like you think. His legacy will certainly be positive, in reality, and it's too bad more people can't quite grasp the truth. He kept your butt safe for these past 7 years

what a laugh. The terrorists could have implemented an attack any time they wanted. as for Duh-bya, his criminal legacy will be one that will be mocked and derided as the most calamatous in the past century. You must be one of the 25% of the dimwitted ditto head, Shammity, Faux news lemmings that thinks the chimp-in-chief is actually doing a good job????

He inherits all of the GOP's unsolved problems. Lovely. They dump 8 years of trash on him, then call him a failure when he can't clean it all up.

No one here knows what they are talking about. Talk to someone who has or is living there. You will get a much different take on things and not what our media spoon feeds you.
You read this crap and then act like you know what your talking about...please.

No kidding...and he won't be able to "mess" with Israel. The Jews are God's chosen people, and they will NOT give up until they have their land back, just as the Bible says it will happen. Calling for peace in a nation that is not meant to have it until the end times is ridiculous. There will never be peace in Israel until Christ returns and sets up his Holy Kingdom!

Of course he's going to inherit the Gaza Crisis. Bush can't even get out of his own way, let alone do anything constructive for the country.

John G .... Your an IDIOT. Get A Life frustrated Peon.

Unfortunately, President Obama will inherit more issues than ANY of President before him. Respect & Understand that before you go running off at the mouth. Like Mr Obama said " We Have one President At A Time" Is that a true statement you MORON?

When Mr Obama is sworn in, he will have those most daunting task of cleaing up all the SH-T the previous 43 Presidents left behind ESPECIALLY the 43rd president. Have No Doubt that he will do the best job considering what he faces beginning day one.

The Palestinians are the most unorganized group of numbskulls on the planet. They aren't intelligent enough to organize and come up with a real plan for creating a country for themselves. They've giving up every opportunity offered to them. Only an crazy people lobs missiles without expecting retribution, and what kind of attempt is that any way?

Yeah, and Obama does not have one clue as to what he will do. He never never stated his foriegn policies on the champaign trail. And you liberals turned a blind eye to it. He'll listen to "never been right-Biden". That will be the end of us

Any thoughts on whether this may be the international crisis predicted by Biden? Maybe it is the first of several he will have to face when he takes office.

There is no end to that crisis unless Hamas, Hezbolah, and specially Syria and Iran recognize the existence of Israel as a neighbour country and cease to treath Israel.
I am not a big Israel supporter but when they fire rockets to Israel to kill inocent civilians, Nobody protest but when Israel retaliate with it's fire force, it's all over the media in the world.
    Violence goes both ways.

Good I'm glad Israel is responding so strongly. The only thing that will give Hamas pause is the message that their games will not be tolerated.

That is an under statement! It is obvious that he is going to inherit the whole Bush/Cheney Mess!

Typical republican politics... rape the public until we cannot stand anymore... then let a democrat come and save your as.... mmmm... behinds! Then criticize and witchhunt until the next election... lie and cheat... attack and deny... that is the motto of the Republican party. When will the People wake up.... I hope this election is heralding the coming of commonsense! I'm voting that it is! Forget it Repubs... your days are numbered... :)

New Yorker – Any doubt about the seriousness of your posts went away with the 'Second Coming' quote. Yes, Israel has the right to defend itself, which nation in the whole world is so pathetic that it hasn't such right? But who are they killing? The dead relatives of the newer supporters of Hamas & Hezbollah & Iran!!!
It does not work. It never did and never will, because like Israel has the right to defend itself SO HAS THE PALESTINIANS!!!
If you say that they don't, then please explain it to us why...
Let's remember that like most, if not all, religions the Islamism DOES NOT SUPPORT SUICIDE!!!! But, unfortunately, like most, if not all, religions the Islamism has a bunch of 'true believers' that tend to bend or break the religious dogmas of their faith based on THEIR interpretation, hence the existence of the 'suicide bombers'.
If the FATAH is really a bag of corrupts and egoistical idiots, and therefore has no more legitimacy to speak for the Palestinian people than the Hamas (i.e. NONE), then what PEBO should do (since he's going to have to do something anyway) was to help to arise a new Palestinian leadership that the Israel authorities (who should be encouraged to fight the loose cannons in their midst) can accept as valid ones. Then perhpas PEACE would be on sight, but at least it would be a start.

PS: Please CNN, don't 'moderate' my posts!

Its not he could inherit the Gaza crisis. He will. Israel going to make sure that their war will drag until Mr. Obama take office. It will be the test for the administartion that Joe Biden was talking about. Israel allways played dirty war, and dirty politics against the Palestinians. Now they going to try it against the new administration.

i must say, i feel rather sorry for P.E Obama, he's not only inheriting all the problems left behind by the Bush Administration (of which there are many), but he also has to deal with international problems such as that in Gaza, and also the fact that hopes worldwide for his presidency are so sky-high that they are almost impossible to meet.
God Bless Obama and his beautiful family with a Happy New Year, and also a swift end to the troubles in Gaza.
