Obama could inherit Gaza crisis

Barack Obama reiterated his support for Israel when he visited Sderot in July.
Barack Obama reiterated his support for Israel when he visited Sderot in July.

(CNN) - As the violence rages in Gaza, President Bush is putting the blame squarely on Hamas, while President-elect Barack Obama is keeping a low profile and sticking by his belief that "there is only one president at a time."

But with less than a month until the inauguration, the president-elect could inherit an international crisis - one he will not be able to defer to Bush.

Israeli airstrikes pummeled Gaza for a third day Monday as part of what Israel's defense minister called "an all-out war" with Hamas. Israel says the attacks are a response to escalating rocket attacks against southern Israel.

Israel has tanks on the border and has approved the call-up of 2,000 reservists, but there was no indication of a Israeli ground incursion Monday. However, Israeli politicians say that all options are on the table.

    New Yorker,
How long was it between the World Trade Center bombing #1 and September 11, 2001.(Answer; 8 years, 6 months and 17 days) During that period there were no other domestic attacks. Did you give Bill Clinton any credit? Lastly, who was on duty the day we were attacked on September 11, 2001? W and his gang had been on duty for almost nine months. Exactly how much credit should we give him, him that allowed the attack in the first place?

Israel is a a small state with alot of wealth and power. This wealth/power creates rules that reach around the world. Only the people of Israel will change the path their state is on. OB and W. have no control over this unless they go to war against Israel. This will never happen. UNLESS?JUST LIKE $4.00 GAS, THE PEOPLE WILL SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH AND STARE ISRAEL DOWN, but until then? He who has the money has the power.

Obama is going to need to take a page out of President Bush's playbook, and it is a great move.

I know some of you won't be able to understand this....

Obama is going to need to make decisions based on what he feels is the right decision to make, not by approval ratings of media polls.

Agree with Bush or not, that is exactly what he did. I'm proud that he was our President during the tough times in this country, because he was a true leader.

What does everyone think Bush's last trip to the middle east was all about? I think it is obvious... it is to his advantage to leave Obama a nightmare situation in order to make himself look better. I don't think the people are quite so gullible any more. Kick this man to the curb and forget him.... and try to clean up his mess... that is all we can do!

Better jump on the wagon, folks, or get run over at the gate! Suck it up and choose to be part of the solution or continue to be part of the problem... and make that decision before it is too late! I don't think the country is going to be impressed with more of this ole time, good ole boy politics... you have meddled in the Middle East until it is like a boil waiting to pop.... and Bush is willing to push it over the edge, obviously.... the man is insane!

Obama is inheriting every crisis of the last 8 years. That shouldn't surprise anybody, except maybe Laura Bush and Rice.

  12. America loses, Barack wins for now.

All you liberal left winging complaining about the current administration as the fault of everything in the world, get over it. You won the election and you now have to govern. You now have to make a real decision. You got two years of power in Congress and the world is going to hell in a handbasket, and you want to continue to dwell on the past and not the future.

Newsflash: When governing you can't blame the current administration as you will be the current administration. You will have to make decisions about the FUTURE? You will need actual solutions coming out of your little minds. Something few of you have had to do for decades.

As I said America loses, Barack wins for now.

The middle east is a bunch of little children throwing stones at each other....too bad REAL children are getting killed over their ignorant childish ways.

I hate that innocent people are being killed over politics...because that's all that this is....POLITICS AND MONEY GRUBBING....

This world makes me sick sometimes. Thank God we atleast have a new leader with an actual brain taking over....

Obama is inheriting one giant list of Bush messes that grows longer with each day he is still in office. Bush and Cheney have been total disasters for this nation and for our world. They have brought nothing but shame and economic disaster to America.
Obama is finally an intelligent, honest and decent man who will bring honor back to the White House but he has an almost impossible list of problems and crisis situations that need to be addressed all at the same time.
God help him and God help us as we begin the recovery from the corrupt and immoral Bush years!

What else is new for the president-elect? George W. Bush is leaving this country and the new president-elect a pile of dead fish in a bad economy, adrift world opinion, inept foreign policies, and other egregious concerns! The outgoing president is leaving all kinds of "stink bombs" for Obama, so the Middle East matter is merely just another fetid mess the president-elect will deal with. And you have the likes of Laura Bush and Rice stating over the weekend that Bush 's presidency is not a failure, what is needed to demonstrate otherwise? The president-elect will have to act in Herculean fashion in order to repair the mistakes that Bush has made and that will truly be titanic in nature! Of course, Obama will inherit Bush's Mid East problems, what else is new?

Thanks to Bush, Gaza won't be the only thing Obama will have to deal with! He should let all of those Israeli and Palestinian wackos settle it among themselves and take care of the multitude of problems in this country FIRST AND FOREMOST!!!!!!!!!

I dont get the fact that the U.S. has to always defend Israel. Why is it that Palastina can be blown of the face of the planet because the actions of a few terrorists(300 civ dead already). But say one bad word about Israel and your un- American. If your jewish doesn't mean that you always have to agree with a jewish state thats been opressing a people. Same goes for Palestina. For all Haters stop the Hate and stop the fighting, I have both Jewish and Muslim family and they all agree.......Stop the Hate

    Lets Face Facts

Until Israeli radicals are forced to, or become willing to give up their ILLEGAL settlements, this fight will continue.

    Could be years, or centuries.

It doesnt matter who is in the Whitehouse, or who is Secretary of State. US Presidents have had nothing but simplistic biased support of Israeli policy saying "Israel has a right to defend herself" and keep shipping weapons and providing billions in aid.

Dont the Palestinians have any rights to defend themselves against the agression and land grab of Israeli radicals?

I'm sure Obama will do his best in the hell hole George created for him….I just keep him in my prayers.

You had better wisen up on your history and current events lady. If you really think GW created this conflict and if people who voted for Obama think this way also, it is a sad day for the USA.

Lets be honest when back in the formation of Israel (yes America was part of that decision) They told the population of Israel(the now palastinian people) then to move over and make space for The Jewish people. Because a couple of very old books told them that the Jewish people were owners of Israel 2000Years ago!! Don't get me wrong but i would resent getting pushed out of my home to move to some desolate place. Stop the Hate and both sides are very very wrong.
