2008 didn’t go quite as planned for either Clinton.
2008 didn’t go quite as planned for either Clinton.

(CNN) – Bill and Hillary Clinton will celebrate the end of the year in the heart of a city just as happy as they are to see the tail end of 2008, joining New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to watch the crystal ball drop in Times Square tonight.

The former president and the secretary of state-designate share more with the mayor than an adopted hometown: former Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson has signed on to advise Bloomberg during his re-election bid.

Neither Clinton has ever endorsed Bloomberg, who was often a Wolfson target during past election cycles.

I really feel sorry for Bill! Hillary is a hapless egomaniac "closet " feminist! She disgust me,standing there as usual clapping her greedily little manipulative hands(hoo-ray for me) together. Bill will be coaching her thru all the heavy lifting when it comes to the real world. Watching over her like a guilded queen's guardian on how to deal with it's charred nefarious characters ,with all the ugliness dialed in at full throttled. while the "Iron Maiden" struts about getting the credit,…! Happy New Years CNN !

The Clintons have been in public service virtually all their life, and have given their all to this country and to the worlds's poor,. We were MUCH BETTER OFF under Bill's administration economically, had better security and more freedom, and the US had a balanced budget. He has made major contribution's to combat disease and poverty in third world countries the last 9 years through his foundation. Hillary will do very well as Secretary of State, just as she did as Senator. I feel sorry for these uneducated, ignorant, bigoted, hateful bloggers who have accomplished nothing in their lives badmouthing the Clintons, two really remarkable people who have made the US and the world a better place to live in.My wife and I started with nothing, but earned 7 degrees between us, have founded and grown 2 new corporations, have successful children, and are financially and professionally successful in every sense but we know we cannot hold a candle to the Clinton's success, and we have tremendous respect them for their hard work , selflessness, and achievements. However, there apparently are a few bloggers who are complete failures in life that see fit to run them down; I guess they are trying to boost their own egos in some sick way through their hatred, , or maybe they are just jealous.

Guess I can't understand why some of you hate the Clintons so much. Peace and Prosperity when he was President and she was a First Lady who was and is VERY intelligent, unlike Lady Laura who can't talk about anything other than being a librarian and trying to legitimize every dastardly deed her President Husband has commited in the past eight years; thousands of innocent Iraqis killed and our brave military – how many killed and injured for Bush's War.

Hillary Clinton inspired me to participate in this presidential year. You are my hero!

Carrie   December 31st, 2008 5:33 pm ET

I am so pleased the Clintons will have the honor of ringing in the new year in this manner. I have never understood the hatred some folks have for them. They are both intelligent people and they have given to their country most of their lives. And for all the snide comments they are still together and have each other's back which is more than lot of folks can say about their marriage. I'm pleased Hillary will be Secretary of State and wish them both the best.

I cannot wait until 2009. A lot of things that should not have happened, happened. Personally, Bush is just average, but politically he could have been a lot better. I know that Obama will do his job as president best when he is sworn in on day one. What better way to start off the year with the last president that left us with a surplus to drop the ball. Divided we fall, United we stand.

Yeah, Bill Clinton was a great President. Sure he was. He was the only Democratic President that was ever impeached. That's terrific. But he only committed perjury! That's not a "big" crime! ha ha. If you commit perjury about "sex", it's not a crime at all!

And Hillary? I'm happy that she was able to dodge those bullets in Bosnia long enough to have Obama kick her butt. No one clenches his or her jaw tighter when they lose. I hope she's a complete failure as Secretary of State, just for the pleasure of seing her jaw clench.

No Hillary = No Obama   December 31st, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Hillary Clinton stuck to her commitment to rely on public financing and as a consequence we have Mr. Full-of-himself as President. Hillary Clinton was hijacked by the sexist, foul media. No woman should even consider running for President until the media establishes ethical standards that censor sexist, gender-biased, insulting comments. Obama buttocks was kissed by the media and the whole thing stinks.

PJP in OK   December 31st, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Enough of the Clinton's already! He reminds me of Carter, a peanut brain, because she ran the country when he was the president. Have had enough of her to. Thought when she was the senator of New York we would not have to hear about her but there she was in the light all the time.

Since they were from Arkansas, are they ashamed of it since they never did run for anything there? From what I hear, Arkansas was glad when he became President so they would not have him for governor anymore.

Sorry this is off topic here, but the atheism comments were closed:

First off, I am an atheist. However, I think this lawsuit is a joke designed just to raise awareness and frankly to bust b@lls.

If you do not want to say "So help me God" – just like in a court room – you have the legal right to say "I so affirm" without any religious ties.

Yes, I think religion is stupid. And yes I think people who believe in the bible are idiots. But that does not justify frivilous lawsuits that waste the court's time.

Peace out. Happy New Year.

I think they are a Great couple, he was a Great President (other than NAFTA) and she is going to be a Great SOS…
(I think if he would to do it over again, he would not have done NAFTA)
(That's killing our country) and people in the U.S. are having to lower their life styles, and such. (by making less)

Well if they are going to spend the evening with Bloomberg, they should influence him to turn down the rhetoric on the Plaxico Burress incident. My gosh Bloomberg, the guy won NY a Superbowl. While they try to coerce him into doing that, i'm sure Bill will like to know how in the world Bloomberg got elected to a 3rd term. I bet Bill would have wanted a 3rd term in the White House rather than handing it over to "The Decider."

Happy New Year President Clinton and Secretary of State Clinton, you were a true inspiration in 2008 and I am sure that you will continue to be in 2009, although you were constantly kicked down and degraded as well as branded as racists by the turncoats, you got up dusted yourselves off and continued your good work, the person to whom it matters most knows your heart and your deeds, may he bless you as you move into 2009, for the others that will continue to persicute you he will deal with them in his own way and they will continue to ask why and how not once realizing that Karma is what it is.

I don't care what anybody says, I have always loved the Clintons. They work hard for the people of the USA. They may have their personal problems, but we all have personal problems. Before Obama told mem YES WE CAN! I was on Hillary's bandwagon because I knew she would probably have the same kind of impact her husband did.
I am glad she was named secretary of state. (a much more effective position than VP) And I wish her, the Democratic party, The Republican party, Conservatives and Liberals a Happy New Year.

I don't hate the opposing force, But, I do oppose them.
We may disagree, argue and fight, But this is still ONE NATION!

proudliberal-independent   December 31st, 2008 3:25 pm ET
