Bristol Palin with Levi Johnston, mother Sarah Palin and brother Trig at the GOP convention.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin hasn't yet said anything publicly about her 4-day-old grandson, Tripp, but she does want people to know that Tripp's parents – her eldest daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston – are hard at work and keeping up with school.

"You need to know that both Levi and Bristol are working their butts off to parent and going to school and working at the same time," Palin told PEOPLE in a phone message Wednesday. "They are certainly not high school dropouts."

The former vice presidential candidate said she wanted to be clear about their continuing work toward high school degrees because any suggestion otherwise "harms Bristol's reputation and Levi's reputation and their chances for good work opportunities."

In high school, you get a degree, NOT a diploma, dear Sarah. Thanx for reminding me about how stuuuuupid you are. Duh!

Vi   January 1st, 2009 11:56 am ET

Really...you people are actually quoting the bible and blaming the media and calling the child a bastard....how sweet. Doesn't anybody take responsibility for their actions these days? While I am not a fan of Sarah Palin, I do wish her and her family a Happy New Year, and congratulations on the new edition to the family.

Randy   January 1st, 2009 11:55 am ET

She's a nobody she needs to just go away.

K   January 1st, 2009 11:55 am ET

Since her family matters are not "official state business or concerns", why is she even commenting on her daughter and the daughter's boyfriend? Palin could save herself some grief and heartache by ignoring others' comments and refrain from making statements that open her up to ridicule and censure. Palin: Just be quiet!

BMS in NC   January 1st, 2009 11:55 am ET

"....because any suggestion otherwise harms Sarah Palin's own reputation and her self-deluded chances for another opportunity at a national political future."

There, CNN, I fixed the last sentenece in your article. You don't have to thank me.

God bless the innocent new little life; god help the parents; and god please send Grandma Sarah far, far, far away from the rest of us forever. Amen

Joyce Becker   January 1st, 2009 11:55 am ET

Sarah Palin is only trying to prove she is a good mother, if she was she should have been home with Bristol throughout her pregnancy and made sure she was in school instead of going all over the country stumping for VP and dragging her whole family along with her, she didn't seem to worry about their schooling then. If she was my child I wouldn't have her work now, I would help take care of the baby until Bristol graduated High School. A GED is certainly not the same as a diploma. As for Levi, his mother should have also made sure he finished HS first. At 18 they are not old enough to carry the whole responsibity of parenthood, working and trying to get their education. Sarah has her other baby Trig, who needs a lot of special care and a new baby wouldn't have been too much of a burden on her She should forget her ambitions of going any place politically until her babies and children can fend for themselves, they need her as a mother more han the country needs her as a senator or heavens forbid a president..

Loren   January 1st, 2009 11:55 am ET

FirstI would like to offer my congratulations to Bristol and Levi and the Palin and johnston familys .A new baby is always special.
I read these hateful comments against Sarah Palin and figure that you people must be very afraid that this very bright and very real young woman will run in 2012. I think she is a rock star and a power to be reckoned with. She is a sitting govenor with a 80% approval rating. She must be doing something right up there in Alaska. She recently put a huge pileline deal together and I would think that shows some huge executive experience . Rather than trying to tear her and her family down I think you people should rally behind ths fantastic dynamic woman and your country will be better off for it .
Go Sarah !!!!!!!!

marys   January 1st, 2009 11:53 am ET

Even if they did drop out of school. What business is it of anybodys?

woodwoman   January 1st, 2009 11:53 am ET

Three points:
1) Hey Sarah! How's that abstinence-only curriculum workin' for ya?

2) It is a total fallacy to believe that these kids will have to "work their butts off" because Granny/Gov Sarah is there to support them. She gets paid plenty any you betcha she's not going to make her daughter find a cheap apartment and go on food stamps.

3) It does a great disservice to all those teenage moms and dads to watch how Bristol and Levi "succeed." Their success will be built on Granny Sarah's generous support. I'd venture to say that 90% of the teenage moms out there don't have a support system like Bristol and Levi do. Let's focus on the real challenges that real teen parents face and not on the trumped up difficulties of these two kids.

Karen   January 1st, 2009 11:53 am ET

Governor Palin, you wouldn't worry about what people thought of Bristol and her loser boyfriend if you knew how little they did.

After years of the right wing Republicans screaming to everyone about family values the message has come back on them. Regardless of what Palin says this is a poor example when it comes to family values (and intelligence). How could the McCain campaign have thought that Sarah Palin was presidentail material?

I am so tired of the negative comments directed towards this family! How many unwed mothers are there in the world that we don't hear about? It happens every day and they aren't criticized as much as this girl has been. Good for her for keeping up with getting her GED. I work in healthcare and see 14 year olds who are pregnant ( and not with their first child) who have no desire to finish school....they choose just to sit around and take my tax dollars. How about we support and applaud her for wanting what is best for her and her family? These comments are ridiculous! It happens every day all around the world!!!

jan   January 1st, 2009 11:47 am ET

After reading a lot of the comments that you all have written I see we really do live in a sad world. And it's comments like these that are sick. What has this family done to you. Get over it. The election is over. My congratulations goes to the Palin family. They are human. I'm sure you all are not perfect. Maybe you should all check your closets.

Jim   January 1st, 2009 11:47 am ET

Poor babies, hey maybe the newborn has ties to terroists....did we make sure we checked that out? thats ok a HS diploma is more like first grade to educated people, i remember HS books being so outdated it was hilarious, and that was during times of a good economy, i cant imagine what its going to be like in the future, are my kids going to read about how great Bush was?? i mean honestly, they still call Veitnam a strategic withdrawal in HS books and dont seem to mention the fact that we lost on all fronts. What a way to make sure we still have all that pride, just lie....cute. In HS i was told my father was a baby killer for serving his country in Nam...yeah we are real smart, a HS education is junk in this country along with a good majority of the teachers, so like McCain said lets let the soldiers teach HAHAHAHAHAHAHA omg im so happy he lost. What a nut. Our kids would grow up thinking Saddam had a nuke pointed at America. People you really gotta get it together and start learning for yourself, stop watching the news, its a waste of braincells and you arent getting the truth. So good luck with the baby, please stay out of politics for our own good....and yours for that matter...and we are good.

How did Sara Palins 2009 calender become a best seller? Could she be more popular than some of you that are afraid of her thought? She is what most of the women on these post are not, beautiful, articulate, and height and weight proportionate!! You Liberals need a lesson in "cause and affect" as YOU are the ones who have trashed this country for the last eight years with your hate and vile garbage! Some of you better still be on these blogs 6 months from now and don't hide from the fact that you were wrong on Obama and got snake oiled!!

pam   January 1st, 2009 11:41 am ET

These comments are pathetic.
Sarah Palin and her family are not any different then any other family in this country..look in the mirror. Her daughter is not the first and will not be the last young girl to have a baby at this young age and not be married. The term my baby's father was termed by WHOM.
The news media has elected the most inexperienced person to ever run for the office of president.
George Bush will be missed, and has done a wonderful job. My family and this country has remained save....lets see, and I pray, Obama can even begin to fill George Bush's shoes.
God bless you George Bush.
God bless you Sarah Palin.

Our small town values are what makes America great, and the Palin family is actually a great example of what small town values are. They love each other, they work hard, and above all, they believe in, and love our Lord God.

Amen

saftgek   January 1st, 2009 11:39 am ET

Exactly how long did it take for the general population to identify the Palin family as wholly dysfunctional?

From the time Gov. Palin entered the VP race, and her family entered the public eye, names – conduct – appearance – demeanor – quality of speech – all affirmed the pitiful state of this "family." There clearly is an egregious absence of parenting. Gov. Palin and her husband appear to be struggling severely with aging, as they attempt to maintain a child-like personal appearance. Compound that with Gov. Palin's severely underdeveloped verbal ability, and the case is closed.

That the voters of Alaska put Sarah Palin in the Governor's Office is an amazement. That voters of the U.S. actually took her seriously for the office of VP. In both cases, it speaks volumes to the intellect and competency of a large number of voters in Alaska and the U.S.

God Help Us!

Anna, Missouri   January 1st, 2009 11:38 am ET

For all of those that think that Bristol is off limits, please explain why it is ok for her to accept $300,000 for the first baby pictures and allow them to be published by a national magazine. She is using her newborn child for money, just as several celebrities have done. I think that makes her fair game for any criticism she receives. If it is fair to condemn Britney Spears' younger sister for getting pregnant before marriage, and comdemn her parents for poor parenting because she got pregnant, as Fox news did, then why isn't it fair to say the same for Sarah Palin? I realize that it is only supposed to be those terrible "liberals" that allow such things to happen in their families, but, come on now. don't you think that since the new parents have decided to use Sarah Palin's own "celebrity" status and the birth of a child out of wedlock to make money, that they are now fair game?

Anonymous   January 1st, 2009 11:37 am ET

pathetic. palin should just stop talking. you cant polish a turd.

BUSH BEGONE AND NOW 75% OF AMERICA AGREES, FINALLY!   January 1st, 2009 11:37 am ET

To all saying to leave Palin's children alone.

The two "children" made the reckless decision to engage in unprotected sex, which resulted in the birth of a new human being.

When you are responsible for a newborn, you are no longer a "child" but an adult. They are fair game.

Also, the half-wit is now using the "gotcha" media she so disdained a month ago to get the word out her daughter is not a high-school drop-out. She is the one that made the move not the "biased" MSM. Just another one of this woman's hypocritical example.

Not too mention the "family values" this woman has instilled in her children, no need to get a high school diploma, go for the GED instead. Trust me, in 1960's a GED was not "equivalent" to an earned high-school diploma, and even in 2009, if you quit high-school without the graduating and receiving a diploma you are indeed a "high-school drop=out", except apparantly in Alaska.

Justin ROberts   January 1st, 2009 11:35 am ET

Mother of graduate   January 1st, 2009 11:35 am ET

The Obvious   January 1st, 2009 11:33 am ET

If you were attending a high school in physical, bricks and mortar building, and then you're not for reasons other than graduation, you have, by definition, "dropped out". Period, end of story.

If you are continuing your education via correspondence courses, then good for you, and all the best in getting your degree and then furthering your education. But, until that happens, you are a drop out. Doesn't mean you're a bad person, but you ARE a drop out.

Charlize   January 1st, 2009 11:32 am ET

EVERY TIME THERE'S A PALING-RELATED POST, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY MORE COMMENTS THAN ON ANY OTHER PEOPLE'S POSTS? NOW I SEE ONE OF THE REASONS WHY: IT SEEMS CNN DELIBERATELY LEAVES HER POSTS OPEN FOR COMMENTS MORE TIME THAN THE OTHERS. All other yesterday's postings are closed for comments, except for this one.. What a drag. First, McCain converts an unknown moron into a political pseudo-celebrity, and now CNN helps maintaining such undeserved status. Is it worth alienating the country even more, in exchange for some extra ratings? Will we ever see this moron woman's life ever taken out of the news and finally see real and important news on the media?

Hey, Ohio Girl- do you seriously get your news from Wikipedia? It's clear why you sympathize with Ms. Palin. I'm sorry for your lack of knowledge and intelligence. It must be difficult to get by in the world, but good for you for trying!!

The fact is, as Mayor of Wasilla, Palin supported her Chief of Police, who was the lone political figure in Alaska to reject the ALASKA LEGISLATURE'S decision to illegalize the practice of making rape victims pay for their rape kits. If you can defend that, then you are as disgusting an individual as Ms. Palin. However, considering your limited mental capacities, I can hardly hold you responsible. Now go sit down somewhere with your safety scissors and make yourself a pretty hat! Get someone to help you spell 'dunce' on it, and maybe put some glitter on it!

You people who think that the media should treat Palin the same as they treat Obama are absolute idiots. In your own lives do you treat your professor (although I doubt that you have one) the same as you do your neighbor who is a steelworker? I'm sorry, but just because Alaskans elected Palin Governor does not make her anything more than a very ordinary individual at best. Don't you think the same can be said of the current Illinois Governor? If you want to continue to admire Palin and consider her a good representative of your values, that is fine. Just don't impose that admiration on ANYONE else, please. That is simply not going to work because you sit far, far, far to the right. Thank God the media has better judgment than you do.

idealistic in NM   January 1st, 2009 11:25 am ET

I can't believe this. (*shakes head*). Not high school dropouts? Please! Next thing you know she'll be saying that her daughter is "not a teen mom", but something like a "brave young lady who made a hard choice, and also."

To OhioGirl82, please check your facts. While Palin was mayor of Wasilla, her office DID charge rape victims for rape kits. She did not personally do this, but had full knowledge that her administration did.

Anna, ATL   January 1st, 2009 11:24 am ET

If you people want to comdemn the Palins as parents then be prepared to say the same about Barack's sainted grandparents. After all, he reminded us that HIS mother was 18 when he was born and just because she married his father AFTER she got pregnant doesn't really change the facts. In fact, I bet Levi will be a better father than Barack Sr. who went on to marry several other women and father an unknown number of children, all after he deserted his son. You can't judge the Palins without painting Obama's family with the same brush.

___________

Oh but there is a very big difference you refuse to see, Shelby. As someone who is supposed to be the champion of the conservative revival, you must admit, Sarah and her family are definitely NOT a good example of "family values", now are there? That is why you can paint the Palins with a very different brush. After all, if she is going to be the poster child for good traditional, wholesome morality, don't you think it would be better for her if her daughter WASN'T having kids out of wedlock? How is she supposed to dictate to the rest of us to follow the tenets of family values, when her own example shows her family is incapable of it.

It is called being a hypocrite.

jimii   January 1st, 2009 11:20 am ET

You've got to be kidding me. The boy – Levi, will have his knee caps broken if he doesn't figure out a way to get that old GED. This is a sad and peverse joke. Two kids that had a child out of wedlock and dropped out of high school. This is safe sex at its best. It goes on across America and we need systems and role models to diminsih this sad occurance. So Gov Palin is smart enough after attending 6 colleges to finally get her degree to realize that it would be poilitical suicide to have these two kids not at least get that old GED certificate. So when is the wedding and let's hope "Levi" doesn't decide he wants to back out. The door is locked, but at least the kids can know that all barriers will be made as low as possible so they can stumble across these finish lines.

Raven- Obama admitted that he never really checked into his parents marriage certificate. It also came to light that Obama Sr. was already married to a woman in Kenya the whole time of his relationship with Obama's mother, thus, even if there was a marriage, it would be invalid because Barrack Jr's. father would be a bigist. So, can you say Bastard Elect-President Obama? So far all I see from Bristol and Levi is an effort to take responsibility for their actions, and not leaving the kid to be raised by a rich white grandmother.

Why is this a surprise? Palin is clueless about mainstream America; she lost after dragging the McCain campaign through the mud of her rightwing nonsense.
From the very beginning, she had this 'leave me alone' mentality for the media and everyone outside of the Republican party. She should not be in public office if she does not want the public spotlight.
The narrow minded conservatives in this country echo Palin's belief. Accept no responsibility, defer and blame someone else.
Sorry, the jig is up. Your kid and her boyfriend, wish them the best, did not fall far from the tree!

Eliot   January 1st, 2009 10:55 am ET

This isnt news. Why bother?

For those calling Bristol Palin's daughter a bastard (or at least implying that) while quoting Deuteronomy. Your forgetting a central tenant of your own faith that the life of Jesus changed our relationship with God, and that with Jesus death, our sins are forgiven through our belief and the sins of our ancestors have no bearing on our salvation. See Jeremiah 31:31-34

REG in AZ   January 1st, 2009 10:54 am ET

Gov Palin seems to seek attention in every way she can and now wants to use her teen age daughter and the father of the daughter's baby to again be in the press. The best thing she could do, as most parents would do, is try to keep attention away from the kids and let them get on with making the most of their lives. As she did all along with her own baby, using him as a prop for attention and then handing them off, she demonstrates no real regard for the children and only egotistic striving for her own benefit. It doesn't seem like she will ever fade away gracefully.

Dave, Illinois   January 1st, 2009 10:53 am ET

Hey CNN Censor, are you going to post my retort to these liberal retards that are trashing the Palins? Or, do you only post comments calling a baby a bastard as long as it is born to a Republican. CNN throws out these Palin stories like chum to the liberal sharks.

Well you have all just affirmed my opinion that religion and politics are nothing but fairy tales that only fools and narcissistic hypocrites partake. Sadly, I am begining to believe that God should be banned not just from the Oat of Office, but everyday life if these are the outcomes from such faith. Oh, and politics? Sadly, someone has to organize the men and women that perform services for our society. Otherwise, they are useless too.

The folks who trash Sarah Palin and her family are insecure, self destructive people who have let their negative human nature get out of control. Instead of spending their excess energy bettering themselves, they enjoy laying at the bottom of the trash heap of society. It is time for them to move on and take positive steps to improving their own lives.

What difference does it make what is going on with these two"children?" It is very obvious that they did not practice safe sex and, heaven forbid, aids education.
What happened to being married first and just saying no to premarrital sex as espoused by the Republicans?
This only proves that you can sell anything to Americans. Remember the PET ROCK?
The Republicans and their morality and family values are now just like the rest of us... a bunch of Godless creatures roaming the earth.
Sarah Palin... a dunderhead for sure!

law and order   January 1st, 2009 10:50 am ET

Best of luck to her daughter. She will need it.

Palin's continual twisting of words and denial of facts show us how cynically she views the American people's ability to see thru her bullcrap, and reveals how she would conduct herself should she every be elected to national office.

Her low character was perceived by many, and sank MCains hopes like a final torpedo up the stern.

Steve   January 1st, 2009 10:50 am ET

The Palin clan is just a heartbeat away from appearing on Cops, staggering around in the front yard of the trailer, shouting obscenities about the retired neighbor's poodle.

Due to incredibly poor parenting, Sarah's daughter now has started down the path to a very difficult life. A baby at 18 fathered by the son of a drug dealer. No education to speak of (there is no such thing as a high school "degree" Sarah). I'm sure Sarah's daughter is very nice, but she has doomed herself to struggling financially, and rising to lofty positions such as lead waitress down at the truck stop.

This is all very sad. I wish the media would stop paying attention to this pathetic family.

Jennifer in Dallas   January 1st, 2009 10:49 am ET

Mike, it's a new year ... and a new start for this country after eight years of the Bush nightmare. Jeez!!! Get a clue. It is the Bushies who have trampled and traduced the Constitution of the United States ... not progressive/liberals. Make a resolution to study some history and government....

As for Bristol and Levi ... I can't help but wonder why the "good Christian" Palin family would want baby Tripp to be born out of wedlock. Makes no difference to me ... but that sort of thing would seem to be red meat in right-wing circles....

I've wondered how much pressure was put on the boyfriend to agree to a marriage, particularly to support the family-centric image the McCain/Palin campaign were promoting. I hope it does work out for these kids, but I have to imagine the odds of any lasting marriage are slim.

Tedd   January 1st, 2009 10:48 am ET

maire   January 1st, 2009 10:47 am ET

I wish we could all stop talking about this woman and her family. Please stop reporting anything about her. People really don't care.

Regardless, this is why we cannot let far right radicals take control of our government. Obviously, Palin didn't teach her daughter anything about sex or birth control. That this not the type of policies that our country needs on a national level. We need to teach some type of sex education in school. Palin's daughter is an example of what happens when the parents don't talk to their children about sex at home.

A Dose of Sanity   January 1st, 2009 10:33 am ET

I suspect that most of the posters suffering from Palin-derangement syndrome would still be making the same comments if Palin had aced the interviews with Gibson and Couric and come from an Ivy League school but held the same basic political philosophy. If they streamed through the various interviews and speeches by Obama and Biden, they'd have noticed similar flubs (e.g. Obama's "57 states" remark; judicial expert Biden's comment that the Executive Branch powers are laid out in the Article 1 on the Constitution–it's actually Article 2, and numerous others). It makes me suspect that much of the hatred stems from a cultural perception of Palin and her ilk, in particular her refusal to abort her less than perfect child who has Down's Syndrome and her desire to respect the dignity of her children by not handing them contraception on the day they entered adolescence. Scanning the posts, there's far more judgment coming from the left-wing secularists than from the supposed right-wing fanatics. Me thinks they doth protest too much. If all the Palin naysayers are correct about her supposed lack of intelligence, etc., there will be more than enough time to confirm their beliefs if she enters the Republican primaries in 2012 against the putative field that will line up then. Hold off on spewing the vitriol just a couple of more years, and you may find yourselves vindicated or you may just be eating some humble pie.

jimbo   January 1st, 2009 10:32 am ET

The Palins are in minute 14 of their 15 minutes of fame. It is too bad that the press still has to cover the Palins but she may be in the major political arena in 4 years and I may win the lottery, by my calculation the odds are really close on either event happening.

My prediction is the Palins will fade back into their little corner of Alaska and the Republicans will find someone truly worthy of the White House job they all crave. The press will be vetting Sarah and sadly every other one of the Palins during the next year. That will set up her campaign fund raising capacity which will be nothing like other more well liked and well heeled Republicans. As for the Palin teen parents they will be just fine working for Grandmama in the Alaska state government. Nepotism works well for the Republicans it has kept them employed for centuries.

Linda from Minnesota   January 1st, 2009 10:31 am ET

Mike,
What does Bristol Palin having a baby have anything to do with civil rights, informants, etc?
Why does the conservative right think we liberals want to take away anyone's civil rights and liberties? It seems the opposite to me. The republican party of years ago was based on less government and being fiscally responsible. Now the republicans have become the moral police for the country. I don't get it.

frances baer   January 1st, 2009 10:30 am ET

Please are we talking about this? This is a kid like many others, that made a mistake and has it brought out in front of the world. There are so many more important issues that need our attention. Raven you sound like a scary fanatic, your not planning to visit alaska and steal the baby as a sacrifice are you? Whoa, Raven get it together. What goes on in a teenagers sex life isn,t our business.

If she was to run this country like she runs her family we would be loaded with children born out of wedlock and the stupidist names ever perpetrated on children to carry through lifes trials and tribulations as handicaps. If she is the pinnacle of the republican party they have seen the last of ever having a majority in any legislation conceptsin any legitimate government. Where did she come from and how did she ever get elected. This shows that Alaska is not and will never be a competent state in any aspect.

Mike, Syracuse NY   January 1st, 2009 10:30 am ET

Too bad her desire to be a Mother wasn't as Huge as her itch for Celebrity Status. Her statement that Russia being Next Door and something about the Maritime? gave her experience was the biggest laugh around the world! What a Sad Joke she is!

Jack in New Jersey   January 1st, 2009 10:21 am ET

Rob...get your facts straight...Tina Fey used Sarah Palins words about Russia being visible from Alaska. It is something Palin said not a SNL creation......Plains comment proceeded with something to the effect about "Putin rearing his head in Alaskan air space.....(paraphased)."

Do some research, get your facts straight or better yet watch history unfold instead of trying to revise facts for your own agenda.

Republican or Democrat why is this lady still news? You don't see reports about John McCain or any of the other candidates so why do we still see reports about Palin? There isn't anything newsworthy in this article.

However, Palin's continued denial of facts she finds inconvenient is still amusing.

Hint, Barbie: since neither of the kids graduated or is attending school they are by definition, drop-outs.

Dkelsmith   January 1st, 2009 10:17 am ET

The good thing about this new year is that Republican's have no credibility. Give them credit though, it took Americans 8 years to find out. But I am not surprised, seeing that quite of few number are uninformed graduates or high school drop outs.

Jack in New Jersey   January 1st, 2009 10:14 am ET

To those who criticize those who criticize Govenor Palin...get smart. Sarah Palin is an idiot...she disputes climate change, believes Obama "pals around with terrorists," thinks "Joe the plumber" is relevant, espouses international abilities as she can "SEE" Russia from Alaska, has no concept of the Bush Doctrine(s), Claimed she didn't abuse ethics in the trooper-gate scandal immediately after the panel anouced she did, believes her child is not a high school drop out when acquiring a GED is the result of quitting school, etc. etc. etc.

It is apparent she is a dinosaur like the majority of Republican conservatives and hasn't demonstrated any ability to formulate original thoughts. It is not hateful to point out she is inept though attractive, sensational yet inane and opportunistic rather than pragmatic.

I can only hope the RNC contiues to embrace her idiocy. They are lost in the wilderness and what better a leader than the Governor of the state comprised primarily of tundra, mountains and wilderness.

And Levi's mom is "amateur pharmaceutical enthusiast!"

Seeing that Bristol is only going to do the bare minimum to get a high-school diploma, I'd guess she is not college material.

What a great role model family! The kids will be less educated than their mom. That would be such a great trend for America!

I hope and pray for Barack Obama's success. This country needs to see clearly that smart, well-educated people will do the best job. (Yes, I know that Bush "attended" Yale and Harvard, but he only got in as a legacy and with his name, and limped by once in. He was a rich, well-connected dummy.)

PUHLEESE! They're probably working their butts off learning how to steal from the Alaskan public like Bristol's mom does or sell drugs like Levi's mom does. And we know that Levi has already dropped out.

Ventura   January 1st, 2009 10:11 am ET

"You need to know that both Levi and Bristol are working their butts off to parent and going to school and working at the same time," – Though this "multitasking" sounds nice in theory, in practice they will likely do poorly in all three areas. When will people learn that being an adult means making choices?

It is so interesting that over 300 comments have been posted on this subject. A majority of them post hurtful comments about an intelligent woman who serves her country and supports her family. Most of your comments were posted on new years eve, many of them within an hour of mid night. You call Sarah Palin a loser and you had nothing better to do on new years eve than post trash on the cnn' web site. You might be a redneck if you spend new years eve trashing the children of a former vp candiate.

Miranda   January 1st, 2009 10:06 am ET

To Sara: If this is truly your stance on teen pregnancy, then I pray that you don't and never have kids. "Gee, I just can't seem to control my teen, and I have absolutely no control over their lives or what they can and can't do." This statement signifies exactly what's wrong with parents today. This pregnancy was ALL Palin's fault. If she was putting her family first, and didn't have her head in the stone age, there never would have been a pregnancy.

AdamP   January 1st, 2009 10:06 am ET

What's a high school degree? Is that anything like a high school diploma? Or do they have like a Bachelor's of High School now?

Bea   January 1st, 2009 10:01 am ET

@ Love Huckabee, you are not alone in this. I agree with you 100% evangelicals need to realize that if they sent the right message, we wouldn't have abortion in the first place.....maybe teach that sex before marriage is not acceptable in the bible??

sharon, newport news, virginia   January 1st, 2009 10:00 am ET

And they just keep on coming - My understanding is that Levi is working on the north slope and I wasn't aware they had school there. She is so full of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and they are not married why???? Isn't the name Tripp already used??? I thought it was already one of the weird children's name already given to the Palin children.

Linda from Minnesota   January 1st, 2009 10:00 am ET

I am a liberal, I voted for Obama, Sarah Palin scared me to death because I thought she was completely clueless and unqualified. Other than that, I don't care about her family. Her daughter is like many girls who get pregnant in high school. Being a mom is not easy, especially when you are young and Levi is one of the bad boys we all want to date but no one wants to marry. I am not judging Bristol or Levi and we need to look at our own house before casting stones. The only thing I find interesting is the republican values Sarah talks about don't seen to apply to her own family. That is the difference, they want to shove their conservative views down our throats. Do what you want but leave us alone for having our views. Don't like abortion? Then don't have one but don't tell me I can't. Live and let live.

Linda in MS   January 1st, 2009 9:59 am ET

I think Palin is a joke, but I don't think her family deserves the bashing it is getting in these blogs. Please, Palin lovers, don't put all of us liberals and Democrats in the same boat. I wish the young parents well, and hope for the best for the child. Some of you who call yourselves liberals sound pretty self-rightous here. I feel sorry for Palin's children because she dragged them into intense public scrutiny just to further her politcal ambitions.

james   January 1st, 2009 9:59 am ET

The sad truth about this entire family is that they are unwilling or unable to understand just how much this kind of publicity hurts them. Ms. Palin still has not recognized that most of her statements to the press come across as less than intelligent-if not overtly silly-– and she has consequently become her own worst enemy. It is really quite sad to see such a profound lack of self-awareness.

patricia beitel   January 1st, 2009 9:56 am ET

I was a single pregnant teen parent, my baby is now 39 years old. I married the biological father when my baby was 6 weeeks old. Through many experiences and major "motivation" I earned a Master's in Nursing and spent many years working with pregnant and parenting teenagers. It is a tough long road and we need to empower "them" in order for them to become self -sufficient. There are no easy answers ............but what I do know is that contraceptive / sexuality education is a must for all young people. Our current policies such as abstinence based only education, is simular to "right to bear arm without learning how to shoot accurately".

kathy   January 1st, 2009 9:56 am ET

I just read through some of these comments and it amazes me that even after all this country has gone through in the past election, we continue to divide ourselves.
The spirit with which my community supported Barack Obama as president was one where Democrats and Republicans came together to
help support solutions to the many REAL problems we as a nation are facing.
Why can't we speak to each other? I understand that one is faceless behind the almighty internet...we can't let this tool enable division and hatred.

I hope now Palin and her husband will focus on raising thier children and thier grandchild. Political aspirations are great, but raising your child should come first. This thought goes to both parents.

This morning, after my daughter and boyfriend are done having their New Year's Day sex, I am going to tell to follow their dreams, have that baby they want so much, leave high school (not drop out!), and move to North Carolina so he can be a NASCAR driver (after he turns 18).

Yes, Bristol and Levi have made it ok to do what you want!

I commend Sarah Palin for coming to the defense of her daughter and her future son-in-law. Continuously since the election the news has made it an effort to show Sarah Palin and her family as bad examples. From even chooses Sarah Palin on CNN for her "goofs" for 2008 instead of her extraordinary accomplishment as a woman, a mother, a wife and a politician. But that is CNN and the media.

Her daughter only 4 days ago gave birth so it is understandable that she would not be in school and possibly working from home, which any teenager who had the mumps, measles, chicken pox, the flu, etc. would be doing as well. I commend Levi for NOT dropping out of school but for understanding the enormous responsibility he and Bristol have in front of them and trying to support them in a way that would put school slightly second and work first. There is nothing in my mind that would make me think that he would not be working towards finishing school while still taking on the duties as a father and future husband to provide for Bristol and their child.

Hey, CNN and the media, lets make 2009 the year we treat the Palin's with the same amount of respect we have for the Obama's. I am certain if you looked at the Obama's family tree with the same negative gusto you have the Palin's tree you would be able to turn their story negative and 'trailer-trash' it like you have Palin's.

Because the Fairness Doctrine was enforced based on "availability" I can see CNN being remade to reflect the view of the American people, not the Marxist/Fascist/Democrat/Pedophile Priest group that seems to control it now. Just because it is a cable network doesn't mean many of us can't deman that law be created to bring you under the control of the people, not the filthy 90% who post here.

Libby the Liberal –
You may be proud to be a liberal - are you also proud to be uninformed and to spew nonsense that you read on some blog?

Palin did NOT charge for rape kits. Use snopes, use google (avoid blogs - use news sources), check wikipedia entries with references.

Taking your children to the most important event of your life does NOT constitute parading them around as props, and therefore opening them up to nastiness.

Palin did govern as a moderate. She did NOT try to teach evolution in school, she did NOT veto a bill allowing same-sex benefits, she did NOT try to eliminate sex education. She did NOT cut spending for special needs. She did fight corruption. She did cut spending in general. She did negotiate a rebate from big oil - distributed equally, not by need.

Being a liberal is fine. Being a stupid liberal who spews lies is not.

Happy New Year.

CNN like anyone cares. I'm a born again Christian, but American Evangelicals are very hypocritical. They are modern day Pharisees. They would rather see the good in an unwed mother, who's a High School drop out, and who's mother was a big liar on the campaign trail win rather than an honest guy, who had an outstanding family, but they just disagreed with on abortion.

Last time I checked, sin is sin the same abortionee will have to face judgement, just like a liar. Revelations says .....murders, blaspemers, and LIAR will have their part in the lake of fire with burns with fire and brimstone. Take that James Dobeson!

Dave   January 1st, 2009 1:36 am ET

To the genius, Rob, who said that Tina Fey made the 'living in Alaska gives me knowledge about Russia' and not Sarah Palin, let Sarah do the talkin' there and ya listen to 'er, there": Guess McCain voters aren't very informed either, but Obama voters elected the next President

Pressed about what insights into recent Russian actions she gained by living in Alaska, Palin told Charles Gibson of ABC News, "They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."

It didn't go much better for Palin when she tried to clarify the mystery of what her state's proximity to Russia has taught her about that nation. Anyone south of the Arctic Circle would have seen this question coming and had a ready answer. But seemingly not the governor.

"We have trade missions back and forth," Palin told Couric. "We, we do, it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to, to our state."

Ana   January 1st, 2009 1:25 am ET

Denise, did you really just call a four day old baby a bastard? What is wrong with you? I'm aware of the definition of the word, but really.

I'm no Palin fan, and I think she puts herself out there as sort of fair game considering her rhetoric, but I'm a befuddled by some of my fellow democrat's comments regarding her children. Children. Please take a minute to think about what we're supposed to stand for.

Libby the Liberal   January 1st, 2009 1:25 am ET

And a note to the Republican Palin fans- we liberals are not offended by the word 'liberal'. It's an insult in your own circles, not ours.

And to Craig who claims Palin governed as a 'moderate' in Alaska: if you call charging rape victims for their rape kits 'moderate', then you clearly share the same intellectual space as Palin. Go put on your helmet, dear.

Finally, to those who chastise us 'liberals' (love it!) for speaking about Palin's family, it was HER choice to parade her children on stage at the Republican convention, using them as props to ingratiate her with middle America and 'family values' voters. SHE opened the floodgates. And I'm sure you are WELL aware that if Obama's daughter were an unwed pregnant teen dropout, the media would not hesitate to put it on the front pages.

Palin is a completely unqualified dolt who happens to be telegenic. That is her only qualification. And to those of you who continue to support her, you advertise your political ignorance every time you voice your support. Happy New Year!

Family Values Gone Wild   January 1st, 2009 1:24 am ET

When teeagers stop attending high school and don`t graduate, they are called " drop-outs ".
When an unwed teenager becomes a mother, they are considered to be , ..........
When a mother aspires to become considered for a high national office such as Vice President of the United States of America, one would hope she can at least teach her own daughter that it is not good for mommies image if she sleeps around .......
Not to mention the fact that Levi`s mom is a drug dealer .

Hey Sarah:

You seem to forget that Obama is a "Jesus Freak" too. He's got more religion than most of the empty-headed liberals who thought he would be their puppet on a string.

When he takes the oath of office, while swearing on a Bible, and says "So help me God," right after Reverend Warren's prayer, I wonder if you really think it will really be "your" world.

Mr. Obama has a lot more sense than the left, who thought he would be their own little puppet, gives him credit for.

She, on multiple occasions, touted living next to Russia as providing 'experience'. Leave your little hole once in awhile and you may just be enlightened.

She is...   January 1st, 2009 1:16 am ET

plainly a hypocrite. She is now seeking the media to give a comment on her family. Is this the same “gotcha” media she is speaking to now? While she spouted her hate and race baiting rhetoric, I often wondered why the Obama campaign did not take her to task. In hindsight, I am glad they did not. It allowed Americans to see her for what she truly is…a narcissistic, evil, hypocrite. She has proven, more than once that she is a hypocrite (this statement to People is just one example) and reframes everything that happens to fit her thinking. It is actually quite frightening.

With all of that said, I agree, the family is off limits. She put herself in the public eye and continues to do so. She invites criticism. Palin continues to want the spotlight and thus subjects her children to undeserving scrutiny. It is not the fact that Bristol is a teen mom , it is the point that Gov. Palin is a hypocritical snark. Leave Bristol alone but in my book, as long as Palin keeps talking…

She is also so appreciative of all those who appreciate her family, including Trapp, Trog, Peter-Piper, Truck, Barstool, and Wallow, as well as future babies Tinsel, Teflon, and Tallow.

Instead of wasting her time trying to convince the world her daughter and future son-in-law are not high school dropouts she needs to contact the 4-5 colleges she attended to ask for a refund.

To say Sarah Palin is a mental lightweight is an understatement and Republican spinmasters and more than $150,000 on hair, make-up, and clothes couldn't conceal that fact. This love affair the Republican party and MSM have with dimwit Palin is simultaneously frightening and annoying. In the 9-10 weeks she campaigned with McCain she was unable to string words together to utter one intelligible sentence although she was pretty good at reading and rote memorization.

To think this woman is a viable candidate for 2012 is absurd.

We need another Reality Television Show – " The Governor's Bastard Grandchild ". We can teach the young people of America that it is OK to "Bang Away" and of course, parental guidance will be highlighted, directly from the Governor's Kitchen. I think the kids will hold off on marriage for now, State Child Services will cover the bills – you know! The All American Family – with a View of Russia from the back porch!

Jeesh!

hey-liberals...   January 1st, 2009 1:01 am ET

To AT.......

I guess from your post that you didn't drop out of high school. So please let us know what you have made of your miserable life before you cop that condesending attitude.

From the regular posters on the CNN Ticker, I'm starting to think that all of you want a world that is judged by the level of education you have attained. Well guess what..... It doesn't matter. What matters is what you can accomplish with whatever education you have.

I have a rather large family that had many getting college degrees. Guess what...... The one that dropped out of high school and learned a trade (plumbing) and used this trade to build a large contracting company is making at least 4 times as much as any of the others.

So who is wiser?????

mike   January 1st, 2009 12:59 am ET

Are you kidding? She did say the comment about Russia being close to her house. You can see the video on Youtube. It was a comment and joke on reality. Hello.

Becca   January 1st, 2009 12:57 am ET

What REPUTATION? And who even cares! If she is working on a high school education .It seems to me then some time she must have walked away from school because of this baby. I do not see how you can work your butt off when you have a new baby less than a week old.I'm sure nobody even cares about this family at all. Sarah has made such a fool out of her self so why should she even care what people thinks of her daughter. Her daughter can not be any worse than her. If I was a tax payer and Sarah was running all over instead of being in her office where she belongs I'd have to get every tax payer together and vote her right out of office for not doing her job. She can not run all over and do her job too. If she runs ever again for vice president or president and anyone votes for her I will loose all my faith in AMERICA! Sarah is not an educated enough to even be in the position she is in right now. She has to be so very dumb to even think TV shows wanted her for nothing other than to make fun of her and let make a fool out of her self is all it was. I do not know what Sarah will do next to get or stay in the media coverage. SHe has used her kids what is next? OMG! People wake up here! I guess if we stop buying a magazine with her in it and stop watching TV shows that have interviews with her on them maybe the media will take her and burry her and forget about her. We need ot all say good bye to Sharah Palin and maybe she will go away for ever.

And these people want to dictate how the rest of us live. Riiiiiight.

b   January 1st, 2009 12:54 am ET

In old times people got married early and men started working at 14-15 years of age. Modern concept of going to school for 18 years then 4 years in college is a waste of time. younger women have healthier and more intelligent babies. but these days its more common to have kids after 30.

shelby   January 1st, 2009 12:53 am ET

If you people want to comdemn the Palins as parents then be prepared to say the same about Barack's sainted grandparents. After all, he reminded us that HIS mother was 18 when he was born and just because she married his father AFTER she got pregnant doesn't really change the facts. In fact, I bet Levi will be a better father than Barack Sr. who went on to marry several other women and father an unknown number of children, all after he deserted his son. You can't judge the Palins without painting Obama's family with the same brush.

Susan Goodenough   January 1st, 2009 12:53 am ET

Sanity has Returned   January 1st, 2009 12:48 am ET

Can't we just leave the Palin's in Alaska where they belong? Alaska is in a budget crisis and Sarah needs to take care of business and the people of her state. As I think it's great that Bristol and Levi are finishing up their high school requirements and working, we should butt out of their business and let them live their lives the way they see fit. Isn't that what most of us were complaining about during the election, that GOPhers can't seem to stay out of folks bedrooms? These kids weren't running for office, they just happen to be related. All a baby needs in this world are a loving and supportive family and it seems that is what the baby will have. Happy New Year

to Rob: Actually, it was Tina Fey that was using the words that Sarah herself already used about being close to Russia that gave her good foreign policy experience. If you were informed, you'd have heard that. It's what Katie Curric was giving her a chance to explain again in her interview with her. She didn't get it right that second chance time either. This picture of Palin and Bristol Baby Daddy really freaks me out. I think there might be something going on here. It wouldn't suprise me if this entire family (Including Bristol Baby Daddy) sleeps in the same bed in this double wide up in Alaska. Her gaze in his eyes gives me the creeps. You just wait, they will all end up in Jerry Springer in 2009.

OBAMA-won!!!!!!!! so get over it ROB

Hmmph...   January 1st, 2009 12:28 am ET

I am not a parent but I worked with at risk kids. Many of there parents tried hard and their kids still ruined their own lives. We cannot argue parental impact on a child, it is there and it is real. However, at 17, most teens do whatever they want to do. The problem is not that the girl got pregnant, the problem is her mother's belief in abstinence education over correct birth control, Alaska abysmal teen pregnancy rates, abortion and STD rates and her mother's narrow view of women's rights. These things impacted this child and are part the cause of the problem. The other part is the child's own decisions. It is BOTH. I am not a fan of Palin, I loathe than men adore her and hate Michelle and Hillary for stupid reasons. Don't worry men, you will still control the world for a LONG time simply because you have more money and are physically bigger than women so please, have a seat. I just don't like how Fox News will praise this girl and condemn minorities in the same situations. Teens are teens regardless of colour and they make mistakes.

Sarah have you ever given a rip about how YOUR comments harm others?

Peter (CA)   January 1st, 2009 12:26 am ET

And by the way...the "living near Russia gives me experience". Palin did say something similar though not in those exact words.
But I did see an interview with Cindy McCain where she said Palin had foreign policy experience because of her proximity to Russia.

Guess it's just semantics, isn't it?

Peter   January 1st, 2009 12:26 am ET

Rob,

Watch the interview Katie Couric had with Palin. Couric asked Palin about her own prior comment that her state's proximity to Russia was a boon to her foreign policy experience. Palin confirmed that she had said it, that she had been mocked for it, and that her claim was legitimate. That was when she made the infamous laugh-out-loud remark about Putin "rearing his head" and flying over Alaska. Sorry to burst your bubble on your idol there...

Concerned in Texas   January 1st, 2009 12:25 am ET

I really don't understand how so many people are so hate-filled when referring to Governor Palin. Bill Clinton did such reprehensible acts in the oval office and I don't remember all of these divisive comments being thrown at him...the Governor of Arkansas. Since when did the Left start thinking that Governor's are unqualified to serve. Bill was a joke while in office and they adore him...go figure!! You can save your degrading "white trash" comments for your own kind!!

once upon a horse   January 1st, 2009 12:19 am ET

I have often wondered if those of you who defend Gov Palin and Bristol and Levi would have done the same if it had been the Obamas having a daughter that was unwed and pregnant. Somehow I think you would NOT. In fact I would be willing to bet my life savings that the far right Limbuagh/Hannity and Christian right would have run them through the wringer. Michelle would have been called an "unfit mother", they would have been called "immoral" or just another "black family headed for welfare". But you guys wrap your arms around Bristol and defend her decision. From some of the things I've seen posted anti-Obama about minor things, there is NO WAY the right would have let them live something like this down. And that is what angers me about the whole thing. This should have been a private family matter for the Palins, they chose to make it public and got the results that many a family in the same situation would have loved for the Christian right to have given them and did not.

Rob, you're wrong about the Tina Fey quote. Palin did claim to Katie Couric that living near Russia gave her experience. She told Couric that she was essentially keeping an eye an Putin. What she didn't say was "I can see Russia from my kitchen." That's what Fey said on SNL. Only a slight exaggeration of what Palin said. Check out the Couric interview on You Tube - it's painful.

Cynthia a conservative voter   January 1st, 2009 12:12 am ET

Sarah, Try being a Mother and maybe the next daughter won't get knocked up. Looks like no marriage is in store for Bristol. Levi liked the fun, but not fatherhood. Maybe he will turn out like his mother...a drug user.

Bob Archer, Chico, CA   January 1st, 2009 12:08 am ET

A lot of right wingers ringin' in the New Year tonight, seemingly perplexed that so many liberals are "hate filled." Well, gee, how do you think that happened? After decades of vitriol, libel - and, yes, raw, unadulterated hatred - spewed at liberals from the likes of such uber-patriots as Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove, and Bill O'Reilly, maybe liberals got just a little fed up. And when McCain tapped such a (willfully) uninformed, semi-literate, religiously-right knucklehead as Palin for VP - while running a campaign with the slogan "Country First" - I think we'd all had it. It became quickly evident - as she was unable to answer any easy questions during interviews and demonstrated a shocking lack of familiarity with our laws, our government, and our history - that if she was somehow to ascend to the vice-presidency and then got lucky enough for McCain to croak she could possibly screw up the country even worse than Bush or Cheney ever dreamed of.

When are you right-wingers going to get it? Your time has come and gone. You picked idiots to run the country and they ran it like idiots. Have you learned nothing from the election?

It's time for the Right to look in the mirror. This overly-ambitious, dysfunctional mother and politician (politician first, by a mile) called Sarah Palin is so out of touch with most of our country - except for the former Confederacy portion - that it's the fervent hope of this liberal that she will keep herself in the news so much that the GOP will feel pressured into picking her as the candidate four years from now. That means four more years for Obama, who, with his brains, his savvy, and his calm demeanor, may be the only hope for this wayward land of ours, so righteously devestated by eight years of Bush/Cheney.

Proud American   January 1st, 2009 12:08 am ET

Hey Rob, actually your the Idiot watch the Katie Couric interview.

Belle   January 1st, 2009 12:08 am ET

So what if Palin went to 4 different colleges before she got a degree? SHE GOT A DEGREE.

No offense folks, but as a Democrat, I think younger Democrats have gone stupid this year.

Cats Eye   January 1st, 2009 12:08 am ET

Rob is wrong about Tina Fey being the source of Sarah Palin's Russia comment. SP said this to Charlie Gibson during her interview with him on ABC. Tina Fey just repeated it. So who is uninformed . . . ?

Proud American   January 1st, 2009 12:01 am ET

hey-liberals… I've just been informed it's time for you to put your helmet on and go to bed. Idiot.

philip   December 31st, 2008 11:59 pm ET

Well, first kudo's to them for working to support the child.

However, I think this underscore the real threat to the fabric of our society and in particular marriage is not gays who deserve equal rights but an irresponsible generation (my generation) who are raising irresponsible children, who get too much of what they do not need and not enough of the VALUES they need to maintain AMERICAN VALUES (read the Constituion) qne world leadership (not the same as world domination).

If we are lucky, this deep recession will cause us to re-think our VALUES (or should I say LACK OF).

Oh, and Sarah, when you don't graduate from your High School and you get a degree, you are a drop out. Nothing to be ashamed of, but let's be honest and undermind those who have pulled their lives back together. Many go on to college and great success.

Amber   December 31st, 2008 11:59 pm ET

Sara @ 11:38
That's what CONDOMS and EDUCATION are for. Last time I checked, that was a parents responsibility to instill that. Unfortunately, these people deluded themselves into thinking that they could just pray away the naughty thoughts and all would be okay.
And sorry Sara, but that boils down to "Family Values" and the demonstrable proof that mysticism doesn't work when paired with ignorance.

Proud American   December 31st, 2008 11:58 pm ET

Hey now that Bristol has dropped her load she can borrow some of the $200,000 in clothes that idiot Republican paid for. She should look real nice on her job interview at Moose Burger. Or the boyfriend can always take over the family business. I can see a real bright future for the 3 of them

Gee Golly Gov   December 31st, 2008 11:58 pm ET

Well, gosh Governor. A teenage mom and her boyfriend whose mom is a meth addict, are about to marry and you don't want their reputations to be harmed.

This is why you cannot lead the rest of us who are clear headed enough to know that if you're a teenage mom, about to marry a the son of a meth addict, your reputation may already be slightly tarnished. Food for thought Governor.

Kim   December 31st, 2008 11:57 pm ET

TexAnnie *-*-*-*-*   December 31st, 2008 11:57 pm ET

Rob– you're wrong. Sarah Palin did say that living across from Russia gave her international experience. The video used to be all over You Tube, and I think it was originally on NBC where she said it.
Let's be honest– she isn't the brightest bulb in the box.

Sara Palin reminds me of my family and my back ground groiwng up in Nashville, the promblem is most white american hates that she is real and that the only family that they know that has as many promblem as she does are black family, get over it!

DCM-3   December 31st, 2008 11:53 pm ET

Sarah made this news because she enjoyed the spot light – however, I think the media should stop the reporting on her because she will keep coming, and coming because the media kept her star power up for her and she just can resist the dome lights. Please dim them CNN – b/c we r sick of this nut case!

@Maggie in SC   December 31st, 2008 11:53 pm ET

Palin has ZERO experience. Please say that to yourself, you might be cured from that insanity you have. Her mother in law is a drug user and her 17yr old daughter has a baby boy named TRIPP, seriously who names someone tat?

I like how you indirectly call Obama "trash". Stupid southerner, get some education and some hygiene and then make a statement.

As soon as she uttered "God chose me to run.", i said "Oh, hell no. I want to live in a country that isn't dictated by religion."

tuna   December 31st, 2008 11:52 pm ET

Mark,
Sara doesn't have to talk to "the media". She can say "i don't speak about my family in public." She can hang up the frickin phone. Don't make "the media" the villain when Sara is willing to give and interview. Pull your head out.

J. Scott, Texas   December 31st, 2008 11:51 pm ET

Sarah Palin should start teaching her daughter about sex education and the important or going back to school for her high school diploma, not a GED....Teach the young man also.

I am for a woman's rights, because I am a woman also, but she has to many young kids and family issuses to be President or Vice President of the United States. She should raise her kids up for some years than run if she please.......But I must say, she will never get my vote because she does not have the women views of the American women in mind.

Meh   December 31st, 2008 11:51 pm ET

Rob> Uhhhh. No? Palin did, in fact, claim that she had foreign policy experience because of Alaska's proximity to Russia. Go back and watch the interview. Faye exaggerated the claim by saying that she could see Russia from her house, but, yes, Palin did make the original claim.

Maggie> A great family? That's hilarious. yes, people who spread racism and lies, who steal clothes, and who deal drugs are WONDERFUL for this country. Please.

California Gold   December 31st, 2008 11:51 pm ET

Maggie SC, they Palins are not a "great family". They are dysfunctional, abusive, and Sarah Palin can't make a simple declaratory statement that is truthful. There is nothing "great" about them as individuals or collectively. In fact, the entire Palin family is the fodder for jokes and ridicule both domestic and abroad. It's really up to the Palins to stop. If they stop releasing information and granting interviews there would be nothing to write about. Place the blame where it belongs.

sandee in Portland   December 31st, 2008 11:50 pm ET

I find it quite hilarious that Palin is concerned about her daughter's reputation. If I wanted to protect my daughter's reputation, I certainly wouldn't do an interview with People Magazine discussing her situation. I certainly would not have drug her along to every rally during the election and put her up on a stage. Ms. Palin is doing nothing more than using her daughter to keep her own name in the spotlight.

It will really lower American standards. We are no longer the super power, but the Palin family will put the nail on the coffin. I would rather have George Bush back anyday.

I am really sick of reading about Sarah Palin every single day on this web site. No one else cares about what she is doing. Is there someone there on the editorial staff that is obsessed with her or what's going on with CNN.com? With all that's going on today who cares what Sarah Palin's unwed daughter is doing. A few days ago it was the Sarah Palin calendar, now this ... get over it please. No one wants to read about this. This is looking more like a gossip rag then a news site.

Carramea   December 31st, 2008 11:40 pm ET

MARK

We would leave the Palin kids alone if there narcissitic mother didnt keep shoving them in our faces. The Obama kids are left alone because the parents have kept them in the limelight prior to the election minimally. When everyone was asking for a few months why Michelle Obama was not on the campaign trail.she was at home mothering her kids.

Sarah Palin has used her children shamelessly. Hence they are in the media. Its bad enough she accepted the VP nod when she knew Bristol was pregnant, She dragger her kids out over and over again , kept them from school.
When the baby was born there should have been a one paragraph announcement , not the facts spilled to PEople Magazine.

Levi should NOT have been trotted out like a trophy at the Republican convention and now Palin should just shut up . IF SHE stopped bringing her kids in the limelight they would not be the subject or discussion

PALIN started this media circus. I dont worry about a come around for me. Her daughter got pregnant she drank and partied alot at 16, I wish the best for her but her mother keeps trotting her out like a prized moose or something

Maggie SC   December 31st, 2008 11:38 pm ET

Carole and all you other negative guys. I believe the following person wrote this article: Sandra Sobieraj Westfall, not Gov. S Palin. It seems the media is out and alive on planet earth writing trash and keeping people stirred up. If they kept their nose out of other people's business we all would be better off. Why don't you, Sandra Sobieraj Westfall find some good news and something new. What is the purpose of continuing to drag them trhought the mud. But of couse, I forgot, pigs love to wallow in dirt. there are a lot of pigs out there who like to read trash. Please leave that family alone. Yes they are a great family and will be good for our country just not now so let it rest. They will show up again. Did you know right around the corner is some more trash. Hurry, do not mis it!!

Hormones are. They turn teenagers into idiots and it doesn't matter if the parents are Republican or Democrat.

Rob   December 31st, 2008 11:36 pm ET

To the genius mocking Palin for the "living near Russia gives me experience" comment. That was said by Tina Fey on SNL – not Sarah Palin. This confirms what the polls show: the average Obama voter is woefully uninformed.

Richard   December 31st, 2008 11:36 pm ET

Palin ran a campaign of lies, smears and innuendos. She richly deserves the slams she gets. She failed to protect her daughter from a foul-mouthed bully with a drug-dealing mother. Bush supporters think she did a good job. Figures.

TrueIndependent   December 31st, 2008 11:35 pm ET

Mrs. Palin went through 5 different colleges before getting a 4-yr degree.

The daughter and her boyfriend are 18 and have not graduated high school – instead they graduated into parenthood. What is that if not a "drop out". Also, could someone please tell me the sigle word to describe a child born out of wedlock?

It is not any of the above that I am against, it is the 'hypocrisy', 'holier than though', 'morally superior' attitude of the Republicans that sure irk me.

With that said, now, finally, will you please just go away...America did not want you (the majority), and I cannot imagine America ever wanting you. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but you really need to know, and UNDERSTAND the feelings of the majority of American's. Wink, Wink...sick!

Teenage pregnancy is a source of irresponsible parenting and often is the result of irresponsible parents not teaching proper education or values. Give me a break. That woman, Sara Palin does not have any shame. Her inability to commit to good parenting techniques has caused a serious detriment to the well being of her daughter. As we have seen and heard, Sara Palin’s irresponsible parenting led to her daughter getting pregnant and dropping out of school. Sara Palin’s mother in-law is a drug addict. She is also an irresponsible parent.

There's a reason the McCain/Palin ticket didn't make it and it is still relevant. The Palins and Anchorage are not remotely close to or in touch with mainstream America economically or otherwise and never will be. We should all be so highly subsidized by Washington and be applauded for doing so well. Comments about a couple of kids working their proverbial butts off after only four days of parenthood are laughable. The real test will be in five, ten or even eighteen years plus. This isn't news, it's a sad commentary on the demise of American values despite grandma being touted as a role model.

It's not whether you work or not Jennifer, it's the kind of person you are, that sets the example for your children. I feel sorry for your children, you sure are judgemental, and hate filled. SHE SAID" but she does want people to know that Tripp's parents – her eldest daughter Bristol and her fiancé Levi Johnston – are hard at work and keeping up with school."

So let her have it and good riddance.... soon I hope.

What a pair of losers

Marie   December 31st, 2008 10:54 pm ET

why are people who support Obama so hate filled. What is it about you, that you all feel the need to destroy people. It's not enough to just not vote for them, you have to insult and demean their entire families. You did it with the Clintons and now again with the Palins. You post about hope and change, but all you spew is hate. You are the biggest bunch of hypocrites ever and make me ashamed that I was ever a democrat. You whined and cried about all the hate at Palin rallies, well read the post from your fellow supporters. If you are an example of what Obama inspires, I'm glad I went third party.

larry   December 31st, 2008 10:54 pm ET

I didn't support her and consider her to be an insignificant twit, but that said, people need to get over ther bashing of her, if the GOP runs her again in 2012...we'll deal with it then. There are to many challenges and too work to be done to waste time on, what turned out be, a third rate vaudville act....AKA as "The McCain Presidential Campaign".

Lost in Texas   December 31st, 2008 10:51 pm ET

I think that the same people here that defend Gov Palin are also the same ones that are always posting negative hateful stuff about Obama so I guess then it's really tit for tat don't you think?

Carramea   December 31st, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Mark I DO NOT Consider Sarah Palin a good mom , I consider her a lousy one in fact. IF she was truly a great mom she would have turned down the VP nomination knowing her daughter was unwed and pregnant and this would bring alot of attention on her and she would have spent what precious time she had taking more care of her special needs child. I dont care where she went to college, shes not bright period. But no dont make me think shes a good mom. Her oldest son had to go in the Army because he took drugs and was caught vandalizing. She kept her younger kids out of school unlike the Obamas during the campaign

When she was in labor with Trig she endangered his life by flying all the way to Alaska after her water broke.

TO me shes not much of a mom period, Just because you give birth it doesnt make you a good mom .

Lynn in NM   December 31st, 2008 10:50 pm ET

The media will always be against Sarah Palin and her family, because she has the chance to rob them of their newly given powers to anoint Presidents. She doesn't care what the media thinks, and if there's something the media doesn't like, it's someone who does not kow tow to them and kiss their feet every time they turn around! Look at Katie, Charlie, Oprah, etc., etc., etc. It was all over the news that she was being investigated. However, when the investigation showed that nothing illegal had taken place, that was buried. Gotta love the fact that the media says they "only report the news." They are all a bunch of wannabes, but can't quite make a difference in the world. Same as actors!

Steph I.   December 31st, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Oh My Goodness America is still Yakkity-dakkity about this family ? yes they are a family even if it is (or isn't) in the "traditiional" sense.. okay Sarah doesn't believe in Same-sex marriage yet she hasn't taken care of her own house of horrors.. I personally cannot wait for the Country to move on from the debacle that the rnc called its' pitbull with lipstick;now.. what is wrong with that title? I am surprised that PETA didn't file a lawsuit over that comment. oh wait I actually took time out of my wonderful New Years' eve to comment on this which means I either care or I am making a point

Diaa   December 31st, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Congratulations to the Palin family on their new addition!

There's always room in the world for more terrific men and the Palin girls sure do seem to attract them – and to create them!

What a lucky little baby boy to be born into such a loving and spirited family.

Ignore all these critics out here. Someday NO ONE will listen to them anymore but right now they'll just keep on blab-blab-blabbering till they finally run out of steam! Exhausting, that's for sure!

Best wishes to the new family. Looking forward to your joyous wedding!

Craig   December 31st, 2008 10:47 pm ET

I wish the left would lighten up on this woman. Anyone who actually does research on her Governorship will learn that she actually Governs as a moderate.

Vetoed anti-gay legistation
cut taxes and spending
taxes oil companies, but the benefits of those taxes allowed Alaskan's to get state $$
increased state health care benes for children

Oh well. Unfortunately, she ran against an extremely popular Democratic candidate (whom I admire, but just disagree with on many issues). The left will never forgive her for running against him...

Peter (CA)   December 31st, 2008 10:47 pm ET

The right wing nut jobs are out on here as usual.
Frankly, no one should care what they do. Unfortunately, Gov.-Not-So-Bright is once again using them to further herself. So typical of Ms. Palin. Scary that the right wingers still think she could be a national politician.

Don't worry about Bristol right wingers. It was reported yesterday that the bidding is up to $300,000 for Trip baby pictures. Now, that is the American way!

Moonbeam   December 31st, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Gov. Palin, as I recall, prides herself on being a "hockey Mom" and a "six-pack Joe" (otherwise known as alcoholic).
She never said that she is an "Education Mom", did she?! Or that she ever promoted an idea of staying in school or going to college as the means of bettering oneself.
Republicans seem to like their so called "base constituency" uneducated and ignorant.

Whatever happened to virtues of kindness, patience, and believing the best about people? Perhaps a New Year's resolution could be to show kindness to fellow Americans. I do hope the best for the Palin family.

Bristol is a beautiful young lady. Mother Palin should help here daughter to finish high school and go to college. She is too young to be a mother.

Cathy   December 31st, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I guess Mrs. Palin should have talked to her daughter about birth control since she was against it being talked about in school. Somewhere down the line the morals and values of a family are lacking.

Linda32   December 31st, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Palin needs to grab a dictionary and look up the definition of a high school dropout. Wasn't the baby just born? working hard how? get back to me in a couple of months with that working hard statement.

vic   December 31st, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I despise Sarah Palin – she and John McCain started all the racial nonsense in their campaign and made a mockery of America.
Why she gets so much press is beyond me (other than late night jokes)- and why the media feels she is so important is a slap in the face to ethnic people all over the world.
The African American community should be screaming at the top of their lungs at news casters all over the United States for giving this evil woman so much power and so many kudos. She (and John McCain) are shameful in every way.

bill, alabama   December 31st, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I was going to say something about the standards of the entire Palin family, but I'm not going to.

For the media to keep following this trashy family and keep their names in front of us is simply amazing!

Alex in San Diego   December 31st, 2008 10:39 pm ET

I'll put $20 down that at least one of them drops out. The situation begs for a high school dropout. I mean if someone had told me a year ago that this would be the greatest representation of the Republican Party, My response would have been; OK, Lucifer where do I sign.

Enough with the no more Palin story comments. I used to be of that opinion, only because of the way she seemed to get the redneck element of the Republican Party going (little scary) But this is too good to be true. As long as they want to keep getting knocked up, dropping out and jonesing for dope, CNN, you'd better keep reporting it!!!

Dallas Bob   December 31st, 2008 10:38 pm ET

I am glad to see we have finally found something that conservative Christians consider tragic – dropping out of high school. Teenagers having children seems to be a cause for celebration instead of perhaps the number one cause for society's problems.

The whole situation is a really sick tragedy.

What would Palin know of a "HARMFUL REPUTATION"

Everytime she opens her mouth, the rherotic sounds as though a 3rd Grader is speaking.

Sarah Palin HARMED her daughter's REPUTATION, by not teaching her about Birth Control. And the fact that Palin has 5 children of her own, she herself, knows of the difficulity and expense of raising children. Education should have been 1st Priority in this young lady's future!

Hawkeye   December 31st, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Bristol got her Dad's looks and her mom's brains, and now she's got a hillbilly hubby. What an American success story.

Here's hoping Palin doesn't even win re-election in Alaska, let alone another stint in the national spotlight. What a tool.

Proud American   December 31st, 2008 10:36 pm ET

wanted to be clear about their continuing work toward high school degrees because any suggestion otherwise "harms Bristol's reputation and Levi's reputation and their chances for good work opportunities." lolololololololololol yeah her V.P. in 2012? What a bunch of Idiots.

BKMC   December 31st, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Both Bristol and her fiance are by any standard high school drop-outs and they are teenage parents too. Palin should stop taking us as granted, we cannot be fooled anymore. By all standards Palin and her spouse have not demonstrated values of good parents. CNN has to help educacte people and not to put on us this trush from Sarah Palin

Leah DiMarco, Texas   December 31st, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Hey Sarah, if you leave high-school and drop out – you ARE a drop out.
Levi and Bristol have both left their schools – therefore they ARE drop outs.

I wish Palin had said no to running with the McCain campaign. She is actually a moderate Governor who has run a state with a surplus (no small feat these days). Unfortunately, because she ran with McCain against Obama (after 8 years of Bush) she'll forever be hated by the left. I don't care for all her stances on the issues, but her record in AK is not that right wing when you look at it...

I actually admire her and Obama for what they've accomplished. Unfortunately the right will never like BO and the left will never like SP....Oh well. At this point, I just want 4 years of bipartisanship. I doubt we'll get it.

Levi Johnston gave an interview in which he said he had left school to pursue an apprenticeship as an electrician. In other words, that he dropped out of school. Now, there is nothing wrong with pursuing a trade but that is what he chose to do. While there isn't the same sort of firm evidence about Bristol Palin, it's clear that the Palin family does not place much importance on education–the younger girls were out of school for the full campaign.

What is strange is that Sarah Palin is still apparently so desperate for attention and approval that she would feel it necessary to do this. And to try to sell photographs of the baby. She does not appear to be terribly well balanced.

First of all, Sandra Sobieraj Westfall's grammar needsa a loit to be disered. If she is a commentor or what ever her title she needs to improve on the way English is written. Secondly, why does everyone want to focus on something as trivial as Gov. Palen's family and what they area or are not doing. That news should be si far down the ladder of something to write about as to not even be mentioned. This young couple are no different that a lot of other American's who put the cart before the horse. i just hope this reporter finds something newsworthy to write about insead of airing someone ele's dirly laundry. Woner what she is hiding? Better watch out!!, Cambell rown may be snooping around behind a door to see waht dirt she can find out on someone. Get a life, Sandra Sobieraj Westfall.!!

Mary   December 31st, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Unfortunatley part of running for political office means exposure of entire family members. I think it is unfortunate that Mrs. Palin continues to keep her daughter in the spotlight by pointing out to us that her daughter and daughters bf have hard working ethics etc. The fact of the matter is that it is up to them to create their own reputations just as it is for millions of young folks across the country. Mrs. Palin does not have to create their reputations for them. She is no better or worse than any other caring mother, she just is using the media . Actually in all reality, I don't much care what this family does or does not do, I am so tired of them and hopefully if nothing else they will wear out their own welcome.

CONGRATULATIONS TO BRISTOL AND LEVI AND THE ENTIRE PALIN AND JOHNSTON FAMILIES. WE LOVE ALL OF YOU TOO.

Jeanine   December 31st, 2008 10:07 pm ET

I'm not sure how she can say "Levi and Bristol are working their butts off to parent and going to school and working at the same time", since the baby is only 4 days old, and it's the middle of Christmas break for school. The comment also implies they are holding down jobs, which I don't think is accurate. There's also no comment on how hard they're working to get ready for the wedding (ha!)

rmh   December 31st, 2008 10:07 pm ET

This isn't news .... If there is truly nothing else that the public should care about, then shame on us.

Paul   December 31st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Great, but it's not news.
Back to the Clintons – they've been dropping the ball ever since they entered public life, at least morally if not legally.

Bob   December 31st, 2008 10:05 pm ET

The Palins need to change their last name to Orwell. They now seem to be claiming that although neither Bristol nor Levi are going to school, they have not, in fact, dropped out of school. And, man, is that going to be a marriage made in heaven: two 18 year old kids, forced into the most famous shotgun wedding in American history, working and raising a kid while simultaneously trying to complete their GEDs, and, in Levi's case, his electrician's apprenticeship. Imagine the honeymoon. It shouldn't surprise anyone if we soon hear that Levi has under cover of night bobsledded his way over the Canadian border, or fled to Russia to ask his would-be mother-in-law's nemesis, Putin, for asylum.
It should be clear from everything we know about that family - and Palin is the one keeping her family in the news because of her runaway ambition and insatiable thirst for media attention as she dreams of 2012 - that getting an education seems to be a luxury that they'd rather avoid. Palin herself sets a terrible example by seeming to refuse to acquaint herself with any political, economic, social, and historical realities that might help her develop a coherent, thoughtful, and well-informed political philosophy.
On the other hand, I hope she keeps it up. If she does manage to somehow win the Republican nomination in 2012, Obama is a shoo-in for reelection, no matter how things go.

Burton   December 31st, 2008 10:04 pm ET

No more news on this woman. PLEASE no more!

LMS   December 31st, 2008 10:04 pm ET

The thing that gets me is that you would think that Sarah would have insisted upon them getting married before the baby was born. It just seems a little hypocritical to me that she didn't.

Tracy   December 31st, 2008 10:04 pm ET

I don't think that Sarah Palin needs to worry about her daughter's possible lack of education having anything to do with her possible employment. I mean, Sarah Palin made it to be nominated as a Vice Presidential candidate and she sound like she didn't finish high school. Bristol will find gainful employment riding on mommy's coattails.

Ravi in MO   December 31st, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I have seen so many comments ridiculing the new baby's name Tripp, along with Palin's kids. I'm a die-hard Obama supporter, but it's truly sickening that so many people out there still consider uncommon names to be "wrong" or "stupid" or ridiculous or un-American. Both myself and President-elect Obama have unique first and last names, and yet we're both proud patriotic Americans!

The year is 2009, and yet society is still stuck in the 1950s, when it comes to tolerance. Calling names like John, Mike, and Matt "real American" names is like Sarah calling rural areas "real America". I just don't get why people on these boards are still stuck in the 18th century.

mary, colorado springs   December 31st, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Palin was not a politician on the political trail, she was an entertainer to draw votes to McCain. Her political savvy was literally nonexistent and her only claim to fame was her mouth. She only warmed up the crowd for McCain. Unfortunately for McCain, it didn't work well enough to get him to the White House.

Frankly, I've had enough of her and Joe, the Plumber, and if I never hear anything about them again it will be to soon. I hope, like 2008, they are forever in the past.

If Sarah Palin really wanted to help her kids, she'd concentrate more on being a real mother instead of the "drama queen' she invented for herself on the campaign trail. I think she needs drama in her life or she gets bored really fast. Most trailer park trash are drama queens.

Fred   December 31st, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Leaving school before graduating even if you pursue a GED, IS dropping out.

No wonder it took Sarah Palin 6 or 7 different colleges to barely squeak by and get a degree in an easy subject area.

Concerned in Texas   December 31st, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Governor Sarah Palin was a self-made working woman who came from a hard-working, God-fearing family of educators. She has nothing to be ashamed of and neither do her family members. Enough of the Bush-bashing, Sarah-haters.

Maybe in 2009 we won't have to hear any more of Sarah Airhead any more... though I should thank Sarah for being so stupid, she was just another nail in the coffin of the failed bid for Persident.

Captain Crab   December 31st, 2008 9:56 pm ET

As Bristol gets her high school degree through a correspondence school and Levi begins his apprenticeship to be an electrician, after dropping out of high school, students all over the rest of the country are being told how important it is to stay in school, not get pregnant and get a college education.

This family is setting a poor example for the reat of our children. And with the blessing of a Vice Presidential candidate!

MES   December 31st, 2008 9:56 pm ET

Dear Governor Palin,

Please stop trying to justify your daughter situation/position. We have all made mistakes, however, you are making it worst by continuing to talk about it in the public view. You need to allow the chips to fall where they may fall..... You cannot control your daughter dropping out of school, getting married, or having more babies.

Do the math? A working woman gets 6 weeks off from work to take care of her baby. So how long do you think Brook will be out of school or will she go back (to work) like you did 4 days later?

Stop trying to control or make the situation better for your daughter to the media and/or public. We all can see the path she is head.... Go spend time with your family, and take care of your (????) son.

And this is news because? tsk tsk

I do believe that I had quite enough of the Palin saga during the campaign..... give it a break... pa lease! :)

Joanna   December 31st, 2008 9:55 pm ET

Waite, didn't Levi drop out of HS to work in the oil fields of Alaska? Why is Sarah fibbing again?

Kathy R.   December 31st, 2008 9:55 pm ET

So – Levi and Bristol are "working their butts off", what with parenting and school and all. If Gov. Palin or her husband, the "first dude", had acknowledged the teenage reality of the 21st century that their daughter lived, they would have provided some form of reasonable birth control information so nobody would have had to "work their butts off". Nothing in this family dynamic recommends Gov. Palin to any national arena or to be any kind of model for anything other than a SNL skit.

By the way, was baby Trip named after the Donald Sutherland character on "Dirty, Sexy Money"? Just wondering......

matt   December 31st, 2008 9:54 pm ET

I really think Palin would have been the shining example of the perfect Republican VP had McCain won....she represents all things Republican: abstinence education DOESN'T work, no knowledge and/or respect of other peoples and cultures, complete disregard for the environment, and tight ties with big oil.

Nancy   December 31st, 2008 9:54 pm ET

Oh, come on- So the poster who says Palin is NOT educated because she went to a community college for PART of her education?? So people who go to a community college are not educated?? Now WHO was is that said the UNITED STATES has 57 STATES??? Oh, lets see.. it was OBAMA- Palin is real, she is authentic and more power to her!

paycheck   December 31st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

The Alaskan people are going to be paying for that baby. I bet in a few weeks, Levi will have a gov. job, thanks to Miss Palin, and the daughter will have one too. Not to mention all the trips and such that Sara will take and bring her children on so she can 'spend time with them' on the state's dime.

Carole you are so right, they are a trash family.

Stanley in NJ   December 31st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Teens these days are pretty sorry... that's not news.

P. D.   December 31st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Let me get this staight. Palin's daughter is to be praised for dropping out and taking courses, yet my daughter was shunned and ridiculed when she dropped out when she had a unplanned pregnancy. (She has since gotten her GED.) The hypocrisy about this whole situation is mind blowing. When my daughter had a baby at such a young age, many of the Religiuos Righties in my family were fit to be tied, yet it is different with Palin's daughter? In any case, I wish them luck.

Anonymous   December 31st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Now family of 5 or 6 or whatever visit the jerry springer show when Levi change his mind about marrying Bristol and by the way who is babysitting grandma! keep looking out the window there keeping an eye (wink wink) on Russia while mama and papa go to high school.

drahcir61   December 31st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Let me make sure I understand this correctly, Bristol & Levi quit high school & according to Governor Palin they are both working hard, parenting, & Bristol is working towards her GED therefore they ARE NOT high school dropouts??? You're kidding me, right? Ummmm Governor Clueless, they didn't graduate with their peers ... they are high school dropouts!

I think it's funny that Governor Palin is so concerned about Bristol's "reputation" yet she allowed the pregnant 18 year old who quit high school to travel the country during the Presidential election. We're almost 2 months past the election & this woman is STILL not making any sense.

Jennifer   December 31st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

Had Palin spent more time caring for Bristol, this would not have happened. That's the danger of putting career before children. Me, I left an awesome career in engineering to stay home with my two kids. The endless work at home sucks and I miss the money I used to make and the freedom I had. And we will probably never own a new car or remodel our horrid kitchen, etc... But nothing will make me leave my kids for others to watch. The happiest kids are those who spend lots of time with mom even if mom is grumpy like me. The least happy are those stuck with nannies all day. I see those poor nanny-kids in the library. Nanny doesn't talk to them or read to them. The kids look angry and glum. I went to visit the best preschool in town and what I saw was warehoused kids. It was dreadful. And the daycare workers were nice and doing their best. Its clear as day for those who care to open their eyes and look: The kids with mom are the happiest.

Well Hillary will never be President unless Obama and Biden were to come to untimely end and thats only after she is confirmed (no doubt she will be). Though seriously what is up with this family and whacked out names???? Tripp? Like they tripped over the contraceptive plan??? I suppose Norfolk, Dice, Load, and Polar are next? Seriously do parents not realize that their selfish nature in choosing silly, cute, or neat names does nothing but make life difficult for their children?

GED?Correspondence courses? You'd think that maybe there would be some real education somewhere in Alaska.Maybe Sarah should stay in Alaska and spend all her energy improving educational opportunities for the people of Alaska instead of appearing all over television and giving interviews to magazines. She wanted to be Vice-President and she can't even get her own daughter a decent education BEFORE she took on the role of motherhood.I guess mom was too busy hunting ,campaigning and going to the beauty parlor to do that.

The following is a direct quote from Sarah Palin.

"Sitting here in these chairs that I'm going to be proposing but in working with these governors who again on the front lines are forced to and it's our privileged obligation to find solutions to the challenges facing our own states every day being held accountable, not being just one of many just casting votes or voting present every once in a while, we don't get away with that. We have to balance budgets and we're dealing with multibillion dollar budgets and tens of thousands of employees in our organizations."

Enough said.

Mark   December 31st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

People are saying the media should not cover the Obama's kids and the media is not writing or talking about his children and that good. But do we have a double standard when it comes to the Palins children? Maybe it’s because she is a Republican? Maybe it’s the liberal media doing what they do best? It’s ok to bash the Republicans and the Palins but how dare anyone say anything about the Obama's. You people a biased and have you double standard. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Lost in Texas   December 31st, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Gov Palin made the choice of putting a career in front of her own personal family life and that was indeed unfortunate. What happens in her family happens in thousands of American families today, but when you put it there in the limelight you set yourself up for the criticism that she is getting from some on the left and even some of her own GOP members. Although stats show that marriages like Levi and Bristol's tend to fail, I wish them the best. At least Bristol has a family that has some means to aide her which is much more than most girls her age in the same situation. Also it appears that other girls her age were moreso condemned by those on the right and the Christian right whereas she was accepted and forgiven.

Mike from Anchorage   December 31st, 2008 9:42 pm ET

So in which high school are these non-dropouts enrolled? Must be a pretty forgiving attendance policy if they'll allow Levi to go to the North Slope for two weeks at a time.

Linda   December 31st, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Ok..........I think it's funny how Palin believes not finishing high school could give her daughter a bad reputation:) What about the fact that she got pregnant in high school?????? I'm sorry....I do know people in the same situation and yes it does happen, but get a clue. Society still has an issue with unwed mothers even if they plan to get married in the future.

I wish the best for Bristol and Levi. Its a shame she has to go through this under public scrutiny. I hope they find the strength to be responsible parents to their new child. That being said – she'll have more resources than many of us – I hope she chooses to use them wisely.

What a country.......Bristol gets $300,000.00 for first picture rights for the newborn kid, but until the father's mother gets arrested for drug dealing there had been little interest in the pictures. I guess Levi will not get part of this money, since he hasn't said "I Do!" I'm wasn't a supporter of Gov. Palin, but at least Todd married her when she became pregant with their first child. As the old saying goes, "The first one can come anytime, but the second one always takes nine months."

Gov. Palin said that Levi dropped out of high School in October to work in the oil fields as a electrician, now she saying he's still in high school. Bristol was on the campaign trail with her mother, look at any old new footage and you'll see her on stage or in the audience. How could she still be in school and miss over 2 months of school as well as the time she would've taken off for last few weeks of pregnancy. Boy can this woman spin a story to her favor or what.

Okay. So, these kids are 17 years old and unmarried – oh, I forgot ,cheesy Palin said they were getting married. Perhaps it would have been a good idea to get married prior to the birth of the baby in a quiet family only ceremony. Now I suppose she will traipse down the aisle in a big white gown with her accused drug dealing mother-in-law watching from the cross bar hotel. What a family!!

I think everyone should just leave them alone. There are plenty of other families out there going through the same thing. I think it is wonderful that Bristol chose to have the baby and start a family unlike many others who just abort the babies.

As far as everyone being against Palin get over it. She came from out of nowhere and added some interesting views to the election. I am sorry that McCain and Palin did not win.

I am sorry for this family to have everything they do be viewed by the public eye. They must be interesting to have so many people still paying attention to them.

Go Bristol!!!!!!

Can this "woman" EVER stop LYING??????

Bristol left (DROPPED OUT) school back in the spring, April! Levi did NOT "leave" (DROPOUT) school to "enroll in an apprenticeship program training him as an electrician"; he RECENTLY got that job HANDED to him. Those who know anything about working at the North Slope knows that one does not just "apply" for a job and gets one. You have to KNOW somebody (Toad Palin!). Palin stated that BOTH Bristol and Levi were taking "correspondence courses". How is Levi taking "correspondence courses" while working on the North Slope???????????

"Correspondence courses" = diploma's bought and PAID FOR!

Track Palin is a DROPOUT (but joined the Army because of his Oxy "problem")! Bristol IS a DROPOUT. Levi IS a DROPOUT! Willow and Piper were pulled from school (semi-dropouts) for MONTHS. Palin, herself, took 6 YEARS and 5 schools to get a "JOURNALISM" degree. Did Toad even gradjerate?? lol.

Lets face it folks....EDUCATION is NOT high on the Palin's "to-do list"!!! Stupid is as stupid does!!

Gee, I think having a drug-dealing mother is much more harmful to Levi's "reputation."

Palin GoAway   December 31st, 2008 9:22 pm ET

Gee, maybe if they were both working their way thru college while raising a child, then they'd be working their butts off. But please, working on getting your GED does not constitute "working their butts off". And the part about "while raising a family". Who is Palin kidding. They haven't even begun to start that part yet. 'The baby is only 4 days old. The State of Alaska is probably paying for a Nanny to raise that child. Why does the news media continue to keep bringing up stories related to Palin. Who cares about her anymore? If we cared that much, McCain would have been elected. Hey America, they LOST! Palin stories need to be put away in a lock box along with those about Brittany Spears. Those two need to just go away and live their lives without constantly rubbing their day to day existance in our faces!

No way any mother-in-law of mine would look upon me with anything other than disdain. That photo is incredibly interesting. So that's how the other half lives.

Say what you like about the woman: at least she doesn't shun her daughter's beau the way myself and countless other non-celebrities have been greeted and cherished in similar circumstances by a spouse's family. It's a bitter taste, to never be accepted.

Figure it out   December 31st, 2008 9:21 pm ET

It seems that neither have finished a high school degree.

A GED signifies that one did not finish high school in a traditional sense and as harsh as it sounds they have "dropped out". Sometimes one has a choice in the matter sometimes not. This sounds like Mr. Levi.

On the other hand using courses from other sources can allow one to get a traditional high school diploma from their. One may even drop out to take these courses rather than traditional high school course. Sounds like Ms. Bristol

This comes from someone who "dropped out" of high school and went to college without a high school diploma. Of course I did transfer college credits back to my high school to earn my diploma. (Which oddly enough I needed to get officially accepted to college to get my credits – aka some odd bootstrapping)

NBC reported that neither Bristol or Levi were enrolled in school although they hope to complete their GED.

I still would like to know why Levi was not arrested for statutory rape of a minor. Bristol was 17 at the time she got pregnant. Surely this was an over sight and the Governor had *no* influence–no "abuse of power" Oh look. 1-2-3 little piggies just flew by my desk.

To all who may say post something negative, please leave the kids alone. Let them be. Bristol and Levi continue to work hard, be proud parents and once again congratulations. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Salt & Pepper   December 31st, 2008 9:09 pm ET

They SHOULD be "working their butts off". Even WITHOUT being married OR having a baby. WE ARE ALL working our butts off! Does that make sense to the people who DON'T work their butts off? Sounds like she is "protecting" them when all they are doing is "working their butts off?!". This is a dysfunctional family just like the rest of us...(?) I don't get the defense...

Freeman   December 31st, 2008 9:07 pm ET

The woman believes you get a degree for high school???
'nuff said.
Thank goodness she's way up north.

JC-Los Angeles   December 31st, 2008 9:06 pm ET

Initially I was alarmed to learn that former Mouseketeers like Brittany and Justin could have such an impact on today's America.

Then along comes the Palin clan; I was flabergasted to learn that they not only could have an impact on America but were actually viewed as the potential first-family of America.

Stunning, absolutely stunning, to see how far we have fallen.

BUSH BEGONE AND NOW 75% OF AMERICANS AGREE, FINALLY!   December 31st, 2008 9:06 pm ET

YIKES, are they are doing it together?

cbcard   December 31st, 2008 9:05 pm ET

But Sarah is a great champion of family values. I can prove it. Let's see: unmarried daughter who is a mother. Daughter is a drop out working (?) on a GED. Future son-in-law (?) is a drop out working (?) on a GED. OK, scratch that family values thing.

Little Bill   December 31st, 2008 9:04 pm ET

In most states it's rape under 18. I quess it's okay for TT in AK

KJL   December 31st, 2008 9:04 pm ET

People Magazine. Ha. That's where celebrities do interviews when they need a public butt-kissing.

Mary   December 31st, 2008 9:04 pm ET

This woman loves the spotlight! Please go far away!!! You have sprouted out so many tales that you can't tell the head from the tail. Stop it and go away!

Janice   December 31st, 2008 9:03 pm ET

Congratulations and best wishes.

Soccer Nana   December 31st, 2008 9:01 pm ET

Bristol, Levi, and little Tripp should be left alone. The mistake has been made; the baby is here; please, Governor Palin, stop USING these kids to keep your name "out there"; the republican party doesn't want you to lead nor represent them.

Larry   December 31st, 2008 9:01 pm ET

Why does SP keep blaming the media outlets – they have not interviewed her so there is no "Gotcha Interviews" to blame for a brainless dysfunctional family amused by the short lived fame that was bestowed upon them by John McCain. Sarah please stop blaming the Media for your shortcomings! A drop out is a drop out. Please stop the nonsense.. You have too many lies to clean up, starting with the convention speech, jet, bridge to no where, pipe lines, water break and travelled 11 hours, and so much more... Stop trying to clean up everything you have lied about over your short lived fame!

Chryssa   December 31st, 2008 9:00 pm ET

Hmm, let's see. The definition of "dropout" is someone who quits school before graduating. So yeah Palin, they're dropouts.

Marty   December 31st, 2008 9:00 pm ET

Sarah .... I'm BEGGING YOU ... please just GO AWAY once and for all.

Catherine   December 31st, 2008 8:59 pm ET

Sorry, Governor Palin, Levi and Bristol may "intend" to complete their high school courses and/or get a GED but until then, they are high school drop outs. Don't get me wrong, I really wish the best for this couple and hope they both do complete their educations. But again, Governor Palin is putting her own spin on things...

Diane Moore   December 31st, 2008 8:59 pm ET

Enough from this lowlife Palin. How gullable does she think people are. She and her lowlife family need to crawl back into the woodwork for good..

That Other Jerry   December 31st, 2008 8:58 pm ET

Isn't there enough for you people in the Weekly World News or the National Enquirer? This young couple is never going to have the chance for a normal life as long as CNN keeps running useless stories about every minute detail of the Palins' lives. And the only reason they keep doing so is because it generates thousands of rants by a bunch of moronic children. News flash–the election's over. Go watch pro wrestling or something. Come back to the Internet when you get to be grownups.

happy new year   December 31st, 2008 8:56 pm ET

come on palin stop using your kids to stay in the spot light, don't you get it, people are tired of you.

Greg Weld   December 31st, 2008 8:55 pm ET

And the number one question is.... WHO CARES?!

YesWeDid   December 31st, 2008 8:55 pm ET

OMG...send them back to the trailer already!!

kccody   December 31st, 2008 8:54 pm ET

They have been parents for 4 days, hardly time to work their anything off. Sarah needs to just go away, far away.........

Jeanne Bean   December 31st, 2008 8:54 pm ET

Oh please, Sarah. Every time you open your mouth, it's "gag me with a spoon" time. It's a little late to be thinking about reputations, isn't it–yours AND theirs. The fact that you feel you have to be defensive about any of this says a lot.

You are not important, and the media needs to stop treating you like you are. You were a flash in the pan, chosen by McCain because he thought you'd create enough energy and flash to get him elected. You gotta be about more than that to be our prez and vp.

Go back to looking out your window at Alaska and skinning your moose. You were born to do that...and to be a young grandma, it seems.

Peggy Lucas   December 31st, 2008 8:54 pm ET

Just by being Sarah Palin has harmed Bristol's reputation and Levi's reputation and their chances for having a normal life. I agree with Kevin, Hillary Clinton is the only women to ever have a chance at being President of the United States. I would like to compare Sarah Palin's parenting skills with Hillary's. Chelsey is a Rhodes Scholar and Bristol never finished High School. What about Sarah's son in Iraq – is it true that he had a choice go to jail for drugs or join the military. Another Republican Family Values true story.

This is a good woman. ( better than your Nobama, people!)   December 31st, 2008 8:54 pm ET

There are such hateful feelings toward this woman. I don't like Obama people one bit.

GOP idiots   December 31st, 2008 8:53 pm ET

Her kids might not be dropouts, but she certainly is. Imagine if she would have been elected.... it would have been the first dropout vice president ever. Although we have just gone through the first drop out president ever.

rickymo   December 31st, 2008 8:52 pm ET

All of these people's from both families put a new meaning to the words white trash. And it isn't good...

GuyInVA   December 31st, 2008 8:52 pm ET

She wouldn't be so important if CNN and the rest of the media stopped talking about her. However, she did attract a lot of voters to the GOP ticket, so media outlets like CNN have to report every single negative thing about her. They fear her. Probably for no reason, but they do anyway.

popeye   December 31st, 2008 8:51 pm ET

So much for ringing in the New Year without hearing from the right's version of the Clampetts!

This woman just likes to see her name in the news.

JAMES   December 31st, 2008 8:51 pm ET

More crap from Palin . . . the young man said earlier that he had "quit school" to get a job in the oil fields. Sounds like dropping out to me. And besides, who cares anyway . . . she and her Alaska hillbilly family are in the same category as Dog the Bounty Hunter and the Hogan Family . . . another white trash-family reality show.

Mark in Omaha   December 31st, 2008 8:51 pm ET

who cares...go away, stay away

Marcia   December 31st, 2008 8:50 pm ET

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

Fani from NJ   December 31st, 2008 8:50 pm ET

More lies from the lie-machine. Anyways, why does CNN keep covering her ? We have a crumbling economy, mid-east crisis, other humanitarian problems.
Why is CNN fascinated with Palin ? Stop covering her and she'll fade away like she's meant to.
A rose (Obama) stands out in a bog (other politicians) and Palin is another bit of mud in one corner of the pond.

caralee   December 31st, 2008 8:49 pm ET

You can go away now, Sarah. You're 15 minutes are up.

college student   December 31st, 2008 8:49 pm ET

but...they are high school dropouts

Seattle Sue   December 31st, 2008 8:49 pm ET

See Folks, having family values pay off. $300,000 dollars for pictures of baby.

RoleModelsOfAmerica   December 31st, 2008 8:48 pm ET

Wasillabilly Trailer Trash

Richard   December 31st, 2008 8:47 pm ET

Sarah Palin is the failure of a parent who let her 17-year-old daughter date a profane bully with a drug-dealing mother. Sarah now has an ilegimate grandson. Good hockey mothers wouldn't do that.

Anonymous   December 31st, 2008 8:47 pm ET

If Bristol Palin's mother can be governor of Alaska and a vice presidential nominee, the sky is the limit for her. I suspect she couldn't be much more of an idiot than her mother.

dejah   December 31st, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Right.

At some point Copter Mama Caribou Barbie is going to have to stop going to bat for her wayward daughter and hateful future son-in-law and let them live their own lives.

She has work to do and kids of her own to worry about...

And... we are really tired of hearing about this family and their tawdry reputations.

Please... make them stop...

Palin Fan   December 31st, 2008 8:45 pm ET

Another anti-woman, discriminating and unfair report by CNN.

Susan   December 31st, 2008 8:44 pm ET

Whatever. Why do we still have to hear about this woman and her family?

Jaime H.   December 31st, 2008 8:44 pm ET

I don't need to know anything, because I do NOT care.

Sue T   December 31st, 2008 8:42 pm ET

High school education? When they finish that do they have plans for College? High school education isn't going to be enough for good working opportunities......and raise a family.........has anyone told Palin it takes a college education now a days........or maybe in Alaska thats all you need is a high school education........what kind of opportunities do they have in Alaska? Must not be much if all you need is a High school education.......we know it's colder than hell there and to keep warm you can see what young people do to keep warm..........

Franky   December 31st, 2008 8:39 pm ET

For the record, I know people who are the opposite...and a little bit in between. I ain't gonna criticize Gov Palin's daughter because she is young and got pregnant, I'm sure she has a supportive and caring family, just like mine. For the most part, there are a lot more people that are in her situation and you don't see them get media coverage...

I'm sure she has a wonderful family, Gov Palin doesn't need to try too much now...

arc, Lugano CH   December 31st, 2008 8:37 pm ET

No hatred needed here from those who did not vote for her. I did not support her campaign to be Vice-President, but I can appreciate that Governor Palin is a mother (and grandmother) first and a politician second. She wants the best for her child and her grandchild. This is not about her policies.

Ry   December 31st, 2008 8:37 pm ET

Is this REALLY news?

Come on.

Please get Palin out of your news cycle. I can't imagine there's anyone with an IQ over dirt that cares about this woman.

Mrs. Robinson   December 31st, 2008 8:35 pm ET

Looks like Levis got the look of love or something..And heres to you Mrs.Palin, dadadadada.

Carole   December 31st, 2008 8:33 pm ET

Okay..... I know we American voters can be fickle or used to be. But I am so sick of this trashy family. I mean come on, the pics with Bristol and friends with their hands or lips on liquor, and that was like when she was 16!!!!!

I don't know what appalls me more. Palin was the biggest disgrace to ever hit the political scene. To think people think that she can come back and clean up her act. First, she is not educated. Oh wait she went to a community college or two or three or was it five. But she still thinks she is superior to someone of the intelligence of President Obama. I love it when she says she wants to help. What a joke! She can't see they don't want anything to do with her. They spoke to McCain, not Palin.

Maybe she still thinks a Vice President runs the senate. My opinion, she bumbled too many things to recover from. I would vote for Tina Fey first.

Educated conservative   December 31st, 2008 8:30 pm ET

High school degree? No wonder she couldn't get through college!

MK   December 31st, 2008 8:29 pm ET

Who are they "working their butts off to parent"???? The kid was just born for God's sake! Maybe if they had waited to have kids till they were married and out of school their lives would be different. They choose to have sex, make a baby, and now this is their life, they get no prize from me for doing the job we all do as parents.

Lisa   December 31st, 2008 8:24 pm ET

They are "working their butts off" to parent? The baby is 4 days old. Let's see how they are doing at 4 years.

Kevin   December 31st, 2008 8:22 pm ET

Why is this woman still important again????? OH SHE'S NOT.

Where is the only woman to ever have a chance to be President right now? In time Square ringing the New Year in. Hillary not Palin.
