Former President George H. W. Bush says son, Jeb, possesses all the qualities necessary to win the White House.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – His son hasn’t left the White House yet, but former president George H. W. Bush is already thinking about the next Bush who might one day move in. The elder Bush says his oldest son, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, has all the qualities necessary to occupy the Oval Office.

“I’d like to see him run, I’d like to see him be president some day,” the nation’s 41st chief executive declared on “Fox News Sunday.” He is “as qualified and as able as anyone I know in the political scene."

However, the senior Bush acknowledged, “Right now is probably a bad time, because we've got enough Bushes in there.”

In the meantime, the former president suggested his son would make an “outstanding senator” because Jeb “really has a feel for people, the issues in Florida and nationally, and his political days ought not to be over, says his old father.”

The current President Bush agrees, openly saying he would like to see his brother run for the Florida Senate seat, replacing outgoing Republican incumbent Mel Martinez in 2010.

Basani,
With all due respect, Jeb's FCAT cycle has not helped FL's education system out of the lowest ratings in the country.

Jeb's religious vouchers were ruled unconstitutional, yet he continued to pursue an above-the-law approach with it. No thanks.

Florida   January 4th, 2009 11:32 pm ET

Jeb Bush would NOT make a good senator. His known arrogance with unconstitutional disregard for the rule of law (Schiavo) belongs nowhere near the US Senate.

i NO mas Bushes !

How about his wife, his other sons, his daughter, his dog....? Enough is enough. The Bush clan is not a royal dynasty in this country. They are generally a bunch of greedy, self-serving hacks. Just go away!

DG   January 4th, 2009 9:00 pm ET

I hope nobody is holding their breath waiting for another Bush in the Whitehouse because it won't happen. Jeb Bush came across looking ok in Florida because every time it rained George ran down there with millions of dollars in his hands. He certainly didn't treat any other Governor that way regardless of the disaster. I am 74 years old and I firmly believe George Bush is the worst President I have seen in my lifetime. He and his Republican Administration are definitely responsible for the mess our great country is in today. You folks can deny this until the cows come home but you know in your hearts it is the truth. Selling off our country a piece at a time to the highest bidder and starting a senseless war is just terrible. I'm happy he is leaving Washington.. He is heading to my hometown though. Oh well he has to go somewhere I guess.

PA Dem   January 4th, 2009 8:58 pm ET

Basani   January 4th, 2009 8:58 pm ET

Looking at the comments, I was ashamed to see that even in America, people discriminate and judge people not on that person’s collective merits, accomplishments or demerits; but on the family from which he hails from. Funny how it is almost blasphemous to suggest that president-elect Obama’s father was a drunkard and a polygamist; and therefore imply that Obama is not fit for presidency. I certainly agree that Obama should be judged by his own merits and not by the actions of his father.

On the same note, Jeb Bush also must also be treated the same way. He certainly has many notable achievements in Florida where he is Governor.

Jeb Bush’s most significant accomplishments and legacy are clearly his advancements in the state’s public education. Jeb made education reform a defining theme and introduced the “A+ Plan” to achieve consistent standardized testing across all schools, eliminate social promotion programs and implement a system of funding public schools based on a comparative grading system. Bush also championed school vouchers and charter schools in districts where public schools failed the students.

Anyone but Jeb Bush. His "tax cuts for the rich" political platform is the reason I am unemployed and the reason my nine year-old son can't get the help he needs and is entitled to under federal education laws. He put this state in such a bad position that schools can barely keep the lights on.

Brian   January 4th, 2009 8:41 pm ET

I hope Jeb runs for office and (like Palin), gets clobbered by Obama in 2012.

There is no way in hell that any true American would vote for another Bush for any office - period!

I am being sarcastic because I have not seen one Republican who has actually done something good for the country....

Alot of prople are wondering, "What kind of fool is GWB? I think he answer is a goldplated one."

He has singly handedly screwed up just about everything he has touched. He started a unecessary war in Iraq and ruined the economy.

Trying the same sort of thing that dramatically failed is not a bright idea. I don't think a Bush will be able to win in my lifetime. He is a little like a horse who comes in tenth when only five horses are running.

BluesBrother   January 4th, 2009 7:44 pm ET

Jeb was a good Gov., and he would be a good Senator. He will be a strong canadate for President, no matter how big a mess his young brother made of this nation. He is nothing like his little brother.

Jeb was always the one 41 wanted to run as Pres. He was never for Dub running... Dub was not well suited to be pres... Cheney ran him into the gound. Middle America elected him because he could say, "All the good folk of this country." What they didn't understand was he was saying, "I'm gonn'a shaft all the good folk of this country."

Ann   January 4th, 2009 7:35 pm ET

How absolutely absurd for a Bush to think they aren't finished! Of course, I must admit Jeb and Sarah are about 2 of a kind. However, not only does the entire Republican party need a wake up call, but anyone who allowed Bush to get away with what he has done the last 8 years, should be investigated. This man and his cohorts should truly be investigated and convicted for the policies he has upheld.

We need miracles to try to turn this country around. Finally, the US can begin to hold up their heads high and at least have some hope for a brighter future once Jan 20 arrives.

However in all fairness , I might suggest that we thank them all for their years of service and encourage them all to enjoy their retirements. IMHO the country will not embrace another Bush.

Anyone who relies on any words from that idiot
Reid really needs government intervention. Looks like he will not be re-elected next cycle; his state is fed up with him.

BluesBrother   January 4th, 2009 7:31 pm ET

I have no problem with Jeb, and no problem with Repubs... I have a problem with the man that nearly destroyed this nation.

We need green not oil, unity not hate. Hydrogen power would lift this nation and allow the earth to heal. WIll be a hard sell because home Hydorogen powered generators would allow the average home to disconect from the electric grid... Big oil, big coal would fight like the devil to stop this from happening.

Ann   January 4th, 2009 7:30 pm ET

Are you kidding? I guess the past president doesn't understand why the Republican party lost. Not only was Obama the very best competitor and a leader we all desperately needs, but the world is disgusted over Republican politics and philosophy. Their entire ideology needs to change. How ignorant are they to believe the world would be interested in another Bush. They need a total reconstruction and let's just hope they won't have a chance for at least 8 years.

Nick - West Hills (L.A.), CA   January 4th, 2009 7:30 pm ET

Odd, how we now look back and think that Bush-41 was a decent president, even though he was a one-term president, and, basically thrown out of office.

I guess considering his son Dubya, it's not too far fetched an idea that 41 was OK.

At least Jeb does not come across as the village idiot, like Dubya does. If he were going to run, he should have done it back in 2000. Maybe, just maybe, the Bush name would not have been so tarnished.

Frankly, at this point, the Bush name is dirt, and I hope this country that I love so much, never, ever has to be subjected to leadership by a power abusing, inarticulate moron like Dubya. He has ruined more than can ever be accounted for.

Good Bye, and good riddance 41, 43 and Jeb.

Luke   January 4th, 2009 7:28 pm ET

Make that NO TIME will ever be good for another Bush to run again!!! I think 3 wars, a decimated economy, and our Constitution ripped to shreds is enough.

curtis in WI   January 4th, 2009 7:25 pm ET

At least one Bush has at least teeny, tiny grasp on reality.

But seriously, with all the damage Shrub has done and as much as everyone hates him and his cronies, I honestly can't see another Bush being elected for at least 50 years. And even then, they would likely have to produce their family tree to prove they are no relation to 'that Bush'.

That's not to say the Republican's won't nominate him. I can easily see that.

Xavier   January 4th, 2009 7:25 pm ET

What is really disturbing is that some republican idiots would still vote for another Bush in the oval office. Guess they wont be satisfied till they completely destroy our country.

We've had gone through 8 years of total incompetence. We've had a COWARD of a Vice President (can you say 5 deferements?), who did everything in their power to destroy the constitution, and had badly bungled the Iraq war.
The Bush family is nothing short of being delusional. Give me a break.

The Bush Dynasty is responsible for almost 2/3rds or our country's national debt. Under Bush the father, our national deb increased $1,554,057,922,952.06 and as of mid November 2008 the current Bush has increased our national debt by $4,758,682,784,290.44. Combined these 2 Bush Presidents have created $6,312,740,707,242.50 of our national debt which stands at $10,566,146,196,490.50. The Bush Dynasty has created 60% of our country's national debt. Robert Jackson – another blind individual....you're right, Jeb's conservative, and so's the majority of the country...your information is totally incorrect. Beg the Dumb Dems all you want...he'll be a force to reckon with....in 4 yrs of tax, spend and handing entltlements to every thug with grillz on....the country will be ready to oust the babbling obama....you'll see.....We need a strong conservative in office now, to see us through the tough times. Obama's not only weak in leadership, his inexperience is glaring in the face of Gaza, Venezuala, etc....not a good choice to lead the country. But ...you shortsighted, self-indulgent, "gotta have it now," libs managed to create a tidal wave of corruption via ACORN...that pushed him through...haha...boy, is he going to be hating life when the honeymoon's over...21 Jan....can't use the flimsy line of, "...Well, one president at a time..." as he stands on his "Office of the President -Elect," podium.... Dear Bush Sr.: Your son, W, who you said "Would do a good job," has proven to be the Worst President Ever. His failures are legendary. His idea of privatizing Social Security, just before the worst economic disaster since the Depression, points to his total lack of understanding of, well, America. We've had enough of his failures; we've had enough of your manure; and we're certainly NOT about to put another Bush in any position of power. Your name is now synonymous with failure. Enjoy your legacy!

Many elections ago I told friends and neighbors not to vote on G.43, but had to shut up not to be stoned to ground. I was very vocal on his 1st presidency, but then when he got re-elected, I gave up, like many like me did, thinking: you know what? We deserve it. If people can't see how sucky he is, who can?? What did they base their vote on?? His last name? His beliefs? What beliefs? Does he have a set policy? Does he know what that is? We are amazing.

Jeb may not be as bad, but we cannot afford another country-destroyed. G.43 was amazing at doing e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g wrong, every policy, every decision. You couldn't mess it up as much with closed eyes.

If Jeb Bush runs for President, I bet you all, there will be enough DUMB Americans that have bad, short term memory or are a very forgiving lot and will vote for Jeb Bush and elect him President. Who wants to bet?
He will make promises to lobbists, he will get very close and chummy with the radical religious groups and feed lies to the uneducated and elderly and WIN! I am afraid there are too many foolish, dumb, "blind leading the blind religious" Americans that will vote for a bad President in 2012. And by saying bad I mean Bush and I will also include Palin in that. Because I do not feel she is capable of being a wise leader of a country. She really went all out to polarize this country, divide everyone, spread hate. Accusing some Americans of being anti-American. We do not need someone like that as President. Oh great-the Bush's are already plotting to send up yet another of their own to take this country even further down the sewer than what we already are. Jeez, anyone who thinks another Bush is the answer to this country's sorry state is just hopelessly stupid.

Jeb Bush is as much a liar and a cheat as his brother. We cannot afford to tolerate the lying and shady dealings of this family ever again.

Please... no more Bushes ever in the White House.

What's really unfortunate is that Jeb is actually the smart Bush. He would never run with Palin. That's okay, America agrees on one thing, we need to keep our bushes shaved. I'm sorry, I couldn't resist.

Cheryl from MN   January 4th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

Well all I have to say about this is, I hope the American public has learned a very good lesson from having a Bush as President. If my fellow Americans are fool enough to elect another Bush for President, I tell you, we are a DUMB lot and we deserve whatever hardship and suffering we get from it! I feel the Bush family think they are American Royality and own the White House and we Americans are no better than the dirt they walk on. I hope I don't live to see the day another Bush serves as President.

Modest Republican   January 4th, 2009 6:26 pm ET

Alrighty than!

H.W. Bush wants his kid, in the office. I get that. I totally get that. I think Jeb is actually more qualified than his brother Dubya. I also think that he would be a very good President if he would be elected.

H.W. was not a bad President. He was the reason Clinton worked his magic the way he did. H.W. provided a modest stimulus package which WORKED and saved the country from an economic downfall. The recession went on for about 3-4 months before he caught on and said something was wrong.

As for Obama. I voted for him. I felt that voting for McCain would be a sign of ignorance. I am a right-winger though...and considering I am at a decent age I too may run for the open Senate Seat!

JUST KIDDING!

Roland   January 4th, 2009 6:26 pm ET

No more Bushes in the Whitehouse!

FortLauderdale   January 4th, 2009 6:25 pm ET

Florida is in dreadful shape. The economy is worse than the rest of the country, thank you. The infrastructure is inadequate and not up to the population. The state and the counties and the cities are broke. The Libraries are broke. Crime in Miami is the favorite topic of TV shows, fiction and non-fiction. The schools are awful (and broke). The environment is degraded and the metropolitan areas overbuilt and ill-conceived.

Is that what Jeb Bush will bring to the White House and America at large? Wait a minute. I thought his dad already did it.

There is a saying: A bird in hand is worth more than two under the Bush. Well, we've got two - make it three - under the Bush. Let's find a bird. Maybe it can fly.

Christine: What's this WE voted Bush into the Presidency stuff? YOU might have, but I certainly didn't - niether time, so none of his failures are MY fault, honey. Actually, I blame it as much on the people who voted him in (like you) as on W. himself.

Lisa Vilen   January 4th, 2009 6:23 pm ET

Anyone see a Jeb Bush/Palin ticket in 2012? Oh yes, I see others have commented on that already. I'll be mean and say: The hillbillies will love that one.

Anne   January 4th, 2009 6:22 pm ET

I would agree that W. is one of, if not the worst president. It should be noted though, that we're the ones that re-elected him. And instead of pursuing impeachment proceedings, we kept him in office. To some(emphasis on "some,") extent, we have no one to blame but ourselves. We re-elected him in '04.

John Bumgardner   January 4th, 2009 6:22 pm ET

I have always considered CNN to be the "Clinton News Network" and articles like this prove it. Was FDR the worst ever also because of how he handled Pearl Harbor?
And why is the senior Bush considered "old" when tomorrow CNN will run articles of liberals suing people for being called old?

Tim   January 4th, 2009 6:21 pm ET

By the time Bush was inaugurated in January 2001, signs of a recession were appearing. the Bush years seemed to exemplify the most grievously wrong-headed aspects of U.S. foreign and domestic policy since the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980. The 2008 election will mark the end of an era, though no one knows for sure what will come next. The Bush White House has brought the world’s most powerful nation to a point of crisis, possibly even to the brink of catastrophe. The financiers and stock brokers have run rampant in the 2000s under President George W. Bush. They’ve been called, only half-jokingly, “The Masters of the Universe.”
But their excesses have been encouraged by the Bush administration, the Federal Reserve, and the government’s regulatory agencies, which have combined to facilitate an explosion of leveraged speculation in the housing, hedge, equity, commodity, and derivative markets. More shocks undoubtedly lie ahead. Has the New World Order proved to be a parasite that killed its host? Maybe in the U.S. it has. This administration has been the worst in history.”
One thing is certain: the legacy left by President George W. Bush is indeed a kind of Armageddon. We can't have another BUSH our our leader to promote their own agenda. WAKE UP AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!!

I really never had any problems with Bush 41, I really never had any problems with Jeb as Governor. As a Democrat I liked and voted for both. NOW when it comes to Dubya, I ALWAYS had problems with him, never liked him as anything, never cared for his smug attitude, always thought he appeared to be better than the rest of us. NEVER voted for him and can't wait for him to leave. Jeb would in my opinion made a fine Senator but because of his out of this world DOLT brother who currently occupies the oval office he has made it impossible for him to run and win. Even the fine folks here in Florida will say no thank you to yet another Bush no matter how good of a Governor he was...

Obamas' 'haunted' hotel - legend has it from Chicago Tribune...

Well, this can be true. A few years back, my cousins were college students in CA and they both rented an apartment. Out of the blue, she saw this guy in the mirror she has never seen before, calling her name. Her sister saw the same thing too. They immediately called their DAD, who was a pastor, over to stay with them THAT day and immediately moved out.

In addition, their dad is a traveling pastor. One time he booked a hotel and someone in his room, started throwing his luggage around and there WAS not a SOUL in his room. He got down on his knees and prayed and it went away. Later, he found out, a young man DIED in the hotel room that he had rented.

How sad that our country and the people in it have lost respect for those WE have put to lead. Our children grow up with so much hate and disrespect for people in authority because of the comments made in front of them. We may not always agree with the decisions our politicians make, but we need to remember WE voted them into office. No one will ever live up to the PREFECT standards we hold for them. All we can do is pray the next leader will do what is necessary for ALL of the country not just for their political party or the rich or poor. Our country is one that has deteriorated over the past several years because it seems we have lost sight of what is important. I pray Obama makes good choices and leads us into a brighter day, but if he doesn't I hate to think what will happen to him and what people will then say about him.

It's about time that the whole bush lineage retires from the public view and mind. The youngest bush has spoiled it all up for the rest of them. People are so scared of your name that they unroot all bushes in their front and back yard. We thank you all anyway for your time and services, but your services are no longer needed in this country. Go on vacation now. Go visit the moon, Mars, Saturn, Venus, jupiter, etc, if you get lost in space or get swallowed by the galaxy black hole, don't worry, we'll pray for your safe arrival in hell. Did he also get his father to buy his degree after he failed almost all of his courses like George W did? Is he corrupt like George W? If he answers yes to any of the aforementioned then please spare us all. Otherwise, regretfully he is entitled to run as anyone. Hopefully he will not be that stupid.

And to the 30% of Americans who still believe in this loony clan for reasons beyond the rest of the country's capacity to comprehend – the Bush family needs to serve the country by not serving the country anymore.

It is time for the Bush crime family to go back into the woodwork and let the country prosper for a change. The bush regime was much like a crime syndicate, extracting money for protection while they and their buddies ran away with our tax dollars, leaving the financial industry to rape us clean and now we are all having to pay. No more Bushes, ever again. They should all be in Jail.

This has been a dream of Bush 41 since he was VP under Reagan. He wanted to go down in history as the head of the Bush Dynasty. He told this years ago. The family thinks they are the royals of the country and Bush '41 is the king. I am sorry to inform them that is not so. Someone said it earlier, Bush/Palin in 2012, the Republicans better hope not.

Krystal   January 4th, 2009 5:58 pm ET

We will see where four years of "negotiating with terrorists" leaves us. Isn't that what Obama has proposed doing with Iran. How do you negotiate with people who feel that it is the highest honor to blow themselves up for their cause? You don't negotiate with terrorists. You stand firm and let them know that you will not tolerate their attacks and that you will do all that is possible to take them out. That is what Bush was trying to do in Iraq. You can't tell me that Saddam Hussein was not harboring terrorist and monitarily supporting them. He was an evil man who ruled with an iron fist and fear. Bush understands how to fight terrorism and that is why I have been honored to have him be my president. However, I will certainly be more respective of the incoming president than my fellow Americans have been of Bush simply because that is what the office calls for. I didn't vote for Obama and he scares me alot but I will pray for him and the decisions he makes.

Cissy   January 4th, 2009 5:58 pm ET

Bush and the GOP already know how stupid the American public is – Dubya was voted in a second time. So many are to pathetically scared of Obama and the Democrats that they are likening his election to the onset of Armageddon. No wonder we want your type out of public office!

And by "your type", I mean either party using fear and ignorance based tactics to lie to the public.

Enough! Stop having America be the laughingtock of the entire world!

Diane L. Pelletier   January 4th, 2009 5:58 pm ET

Jeb Bush can run for the senate and probably win but as for president and after having 2 Bush's in the white house that is a sore subject for the american people to cope with. Both 41 and 43 have been bad presidents for our nation we really don't want another Bush in the white house.

Yeah. Now probably is a bad time. Jeb should wait for pigs to fly and for hell to freeze over. It is likely a good idea for Burnham Wood to come to Dunsinane, too, before he makes any moves toward higher office. In fact... no. Never mind. It's just plum stupid to ride the coattails of an ignoramus, nearly as brainless as putting Mrs. Schlossburg in the Senate seat just because she's really a... No. Forget it, Jeb. Pa, sorry. Just forget it.

Proud Liberal   January 4th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

Those who put "W" in office need to educate themselves about world politics and economics because "me me me" is not going to grow this country, create jobs, provide educations, tackle health care crisis and leave the country in a better situation for the next generation. We have all witnessed over the last few months what uncontrolled capitalism results in. The likes of MADOFF are sprinkled throughout the Republican roost....Who can I screw today?

If you look at the history of the Bush family, none of them have accomplished or earned much of anything. What they have done, was to be placed in positions by appointment, poor business practices, and dishonest political tactics. The real question that we may never know, is who chose these incompetent people to be nominees for the postions that they ultimately held? Jeb may look like an attractive candidate for another elective office, but only if he is compared to the likes of his brothers and father. I am sure the republicans can find an honorable, intelligent and enlightened candidate to represent the people of Florida. I have not previously sumbitted this comment. Just how stupid do the Bushes think the American people are? Do they think the third one will be a charm? Bush Sr hit the nail on the head: the public is fed up w/ the Bushes right now...and forever. Everyone knows if Jeb Bush's state had been counted fairly, GW would have never been elected in the first place.
Mr Reid was right: GW is the WORST PRESIDENT THE US HAS EVER HAD! Sorry, Ms Rice, GW will never ever be viewed as anything but the worst president. Look at he blatently favored all his buddies in the Pharmaceutal industry by the MMA of 2003 and has almost bankrupt Medicare by doing so; look at how he has favored his buddies in oil and gas and almost bankrupt the public, look at how he has baled out his buddies in the financial industry. And look at all the brave American soldiers who have been killed, maimed for life, injured in that trumped up war in Iraq... and how many more veterans are still suffering from the first Gulf War... Good riddance to the Bushes, may they all receive the rewards they so justly deserve and bask in the heat forever!

maybe the brother would make a better president than current bush but he better run in 2080 so that the world will have enough time to recover from the shock we are going through now.

the Reality   January 4th, 2009 5:35 pm ET

President Bush attacked a country with false evidence. the un inspectors were still conducting the search for WMD when Mr Bush and Mr Cheney decided to attack the country. the completely destroyed the countries infrastructure and left it at the brink of civil war. all of our allies have quit the region and now it left for the US to clean up the mess they created with our tax money. and we know how good we are at cleaning up mess. Congress man Charlie Wilson can answer that question very well… how we left Afghanistan in shambles after the civil war after it helped us bring USSR to its knees. we could provide billions of dollars in weapons but could not have built school for people in afghanistan because why would we want any thrid world country to raise up to our standards. we want them to keep fighting among each others so that we can sell them weapons. Who created the heaven for terrorist in Afghanistan. we did when we left the country after afghan soviet war without ever helping the people to stand up on their feet. and we are doing it again now. sending forces to that region is not the answer. send engineers build schools teach them how to live there life that should be our mission which has not been the mission of Mr Bush. he was ready to put a mission accomplished banner behind him when all of iraq was burning in fire. that is the kind of impression we have left on the whole world. and now its coming back to hurt us. when our own economy is so shattered that we now need help from countries like china and India to put food on our tables. they are giving us credit so that we can run the government the way we have been … what happens if they don't…. our way of life will be disrupted forever the way things are going in this country… there is a cloud of fear in us …. we know what we have done to rest of the world and now we are afraid of reprecussions. but we can change all that but we cant do it with the philosophy of Mr. Bush and Seceretary of State Rice.

Judy, Mia. Fl   January 4th, 2009 5:34 pm ET

We don't want any more Bushes in Washington. Jeb helped steal the 2000 election for his brother. Didn't they make enought money off our backs for the their oil friends yet?

If Jeb runs, we'll need a strong Democratic/Independent opponent and lots of money and hard work from all of us to ensure he doesn't get elected because here in Floriday ou just never know.

Please keep Floriday in your prayers. Florida must never again have a Bush representing it in any capacity – even as a state dog catcher. I'm sure they'd find a way to screw that up too.

There will NEVER be a good time for another Bush mistake. Take them home, George H. W., and let them live off of their multi-million dollar trusts. They have both provided enough "service" to this nation to last through the lifetimes of my grandchildren. If the Republican Party has one ounce of brainpower, it will never allow even more desecration of this nation by a Bush or a Palin.

keekers   January 4th, 2009 5:26 pm ET

Good God! Isn't the rape and sodomy of this country by his eldest son enough? H.W., you should demand that your family step out of politics. It's the least you could do.

Robert Thompson   January 4th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

To all you Bushes:
It's better to be thought a fool than to speak up and remove ALL doubt!!!

Joe the Boxer   January 4th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

He wouldn't make it past the primaries...

Sherrol in Canada   January 4th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

@Griff January 4th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

Griff, time to take your meds, prescripton or otherwise and say goodnight.

Toby in Illinois   January 4th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

A bad time? Wow. Whadya know? A lucid Bush!

Ernie in LA   January 4th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

America needs more trees and less bushes.

Jules   January 4th, 2009 5:24 pm ET

NO MORE BUSHES! I have more respect for the elder Bush than for the moron he shoved into the White House for the last 8 years, but this family just doesn't know when to stop. GO AWAY!!!

Former Republican   January 4th, 2009 5:24 pm ET

THE SHAME IS OURS FOR ELECTING ANY OF THEM.

WE AMERICANS DO LEARN BY OUR MISTAKES &

IT'S NOT LIKELY THAT WE WILL MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN.

Olivia   January 4th, 2009 5:24 pm ET

HE MUST BE DILUSIONAL! George WH Bush must be crazy if he thinks this nation is going to vote for another Bush after all the mess that his son has gotten us into. Not to mention his own low approval ratings when he left office. You're legacy's finished papa. There is no way there will be another Bush in the white house.

Monique   January 4th, 2009 5:23 pm ET

I almost choked on my food....You've got to be kidding me! LMAO!

I think George Sr. may have the first signs of Alzheimers....

dr.mimi de la cruz   January 4th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

DARLING, WE HAD ENOUGH BUSHES BEFORE WE ELECTED

THE FIRST ONE. WE JUST DIDN'T KNOW. WE KNOW NOW. &

WE WILL NOT CONSIDER VOTING FOR A BUSH

IF HE WALKS ON WATER & MULTIPLIES THE FISH.

* THE WORST COLLECTION OF DO NOTHINGS RIGHT IN HISTORY *

Ken   January 4th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

This opinion from a man who couldn't get elected a for a second term!

Even "W" did THAT!! And we know how "great" he was during his second term!!!

Sorry – I think the dynasty is done.

MK   January 4th, 2009 5:22 pm ET

We had one Bush too many. Jeb doesn't stand a chance. Too many drug addicts and skeletons in his closet. Maybe one of 41's "brown" grandchildren can run? I know, I know....awaiting moderation.......

Idiot family   January 4th, 2009 5:21 pm ET

Oh yea...we need another inarticulate crooked neocon like Jeb Bush to run this country into the ground–just like his idiot brother. They have presided over the worst years our country has experienced, and this demented old man thinks the people want more....put a diaper on the old man and send him back to Kennebunkie...he speaks for no one but the rest of that dumb family...we are finally almost free of these crooks: good riddance!

ABG   January 4th, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Bush 43 ruined any chance of Jeb Bush becoming President at any time.

Something is lacking with all those Bush brothers!

chedar   January 4th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

PLEASE! NOT ANOTHER BUSH. NEVER EVER AGAIN.

Robin   January 4th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Insanity truely runs in that family, these comments from HW prove it! Yes, you should love and believe in your children but the rest of us don't have to.

TexAnnie *-*-*-*-*   January 4th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Yeah, Jeb Bush & Sarah Palin..... now there's a ticket for ya......
one from he**.

PA   January 4th, 2009 5:17 pm ET

OMG Like Father Like Sons! This family has no shame. One son reduced America to near ashes and Daddy has been singing his praises and patting his back throughout the long eight year nightmare! And when Daddy couldn't get the words out due to blubbering tears, Mommy stepped up to the plate! But even that wasn't enough, now Daddy's endorsing his eldest son! Maybe Mommy Barbra could push a few gears to get Hillary out of way and run for her Senate seat to give Jeb time to grow up and/or shake off Georgie's Trench Ratings! GAG!

Wes   January 4th, 2009 5:16 pm ET

Of course he would like to see Jeb as president. That would mean shady corporate deals, oil and arm company scams driven by needless wars, the poverty line increasing, while they drown in a few more hundreds of millions of dollars. This man probably already promised the Saudis that he will deliver another Bush puppet into the White House. I pray to God that we don't get fooled again.

wendy   January 4th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

Unfortunately, the wrong Bush occupied the White House during the last 8 years. Bush Jr. never liked his job except for the photo ops. Which is why we are seeing the repercussions of his yearly monthly vacations. He has been a disaster.
I can proudly say I never voted for him. I didn't want a person who I could have a beer with in the White House. I wanted someone with drive and BRAINS!!!!!!

charkey   January 4th, 2009 5:14 pm ET

lol i guess in 2012 Obama would love to finally run against bush ..... thats whywe'll have president Obama till 2016 the republicans cant find anyone with his spunk and stuff lol

James from NC   January 4th, 2009 5:14 pm ET

We voted for two freaking cowboys...That have their own RANCH! C'mon America, we can do better than that.

Proud American   January 4th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

Americans don't be so quick to put the Bush's down. You never know when were going to need another Idiot for President. You should always keep a Bush in reserve just in case.

Gail   January 4th, 2009 5:12 pm ET

CNN – we've all seen what the Bush family has and has tried to do to our Country – NEVER AGAIN!

still searching for constitutional equality   January 4th, 2009 5:12 pm ET

this is one Floridian who will never vote for a Bush, for anything

Wall Street Gangsta   January 4th, 2009 5:11 pm ET

Great Idea, pops. Just go ahead and guarantee the democrats another victory!

Proud American   January 4th, 2009 5:10 pm ET

Wow that picture speaks volumes ( looks like their having a Jerry Springer moment). How many more Idiots are there in this family? Mr Bush I believe I speak for the entire country when I say. Your Kidding right?

steve   January 4th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

I am sick of bushies and will be in the future, you repulicans are idiots the way you just stick to these dolts, its a bad family prone to substance abuse issues, mediocrity and arrogance, they are children of the rich and THAT is how they get a head, let this dynasty end with the worst president in our nations history, let them go out and get real jobs, let them clean up their own messes, I'm sure jeb is better than his brother but big deal who isn't???

Texas Teacher   January 4th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

However, the senior Bush acknowledged, “Right now is probably a bad time, because we've got enough Bushes in there.”
------------------------
Duh! Understatement! I'm sure you will do your best to push him through by hook or crook just as you did Georgie boy.

Seriously, since you republicans have been so drunk with power and out of control... I guess you have not notice that the rest of us are paying for your rape of the nation.... as we lay bleeding!

Anyone with half a brain knows that you, Bush Sr. and your buddy boy, Cheney, along with your other black hearted gang are the ones who have been running this country.... while the bumbling village idiot you call your son has been posturing in front of the camera! I'll bet when Cheney was hiden in an undisclosed location, you were right there with him!

God help this country, if it falls for the Bush Gang one more time!

paul brown   January 4th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Bush # 1 was an idiot, Bush # 2 without a doubt was an idiot, and now we should try the trifecta. I don't think so.

Sydelle B. Schatz   January 4th, 2009 5:07 pm ET

Please Please, DON'T run, I live in Florida. The ONLY thing that JEB knows how to do well is prepaire for Hurricans. He does a bang up job on that subject. He woud do a real good job running FEMA. Other wise he is just is just another Bumbling Bush.

Juan Grain   January 4th, 2009 5:06 pm ET

He will loose in FL too. We will organize and make sure of it.

Alicia   January 4th, 2009 5:05 pm ET

Why not...he knows how to fix an election? He fixed Florida for his dufus brother.

This family is not looking good. The father, I was okay with. But he was not our most memorable president 'Read my lips....no new taxes.'. Yeah right.

Please don't put anymore pain on the American people, even with the smart son.

Slim   January 4th, 2009 5:04 pm ET

yea, he has a real feel for destroying people's lives

Rosa, b'ham al   January 4th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

YA think. How long will it take for everyone to forget how bad Bush 43 was before we go through that again. Personally I don't think Jeb would be as bad as George but I am not willing to take a chance.

Al   January 4th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

They should be happy that Bush-the-decider is not in prison yet.

Jk   January 4th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

I think the dynasty politics needs to come to an end. Down with the Kennedy's Dole's and Bush families.

Mike B.   January 4th, 2009 5:00 pm ET

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.

I think the vast majority of Americans would say OVER OUR DEAD BODIES to that idea. No more Bushes!

NO KENNEDY   January 4th, 2009 5:00 pm ET

Harry Reid is the worst man who ever breathed.

Andrew   January 4th, 2009 4:59 pm ET

I do not think another Bush in the White House is best right now. This may happen when pigs fly but then again never say never. Remember Election 2000 and2004. Nuff said

Meka   January 4th, 2009 4:59 pm ET

Sorry to tell you 'Former Pres Bush', but this is the same 'Bush' that is linked to "Savings and Loan-Keating" SAGA.

You were the "BEST OF THE BUSH'S" . . . AMERICA'S HAD ENOUGH !

Jan Illinois   January 4th, 2009 4:58 pm ET

Understatement of the year!!! Decade!!! Lifetime!!! Period.

Democrat   January 4th, 2009 4:58 pm ET

I'd vote for him! He'd be way better than the pinheads America just elected!

Fed up with the monarchy   January 4th, 2009 4:58 pm ET

You've got to be kidding me.

With the extremely poor performance, and dismal approval (on both sides of the fence) of Dubya, how can anyone even remotely consider having another Bush in office?

One would think that these people, who are supposedly intelligent, would realize that his brother's shadow is deep enough and dark enough to keep any future Bush out of the limelight however qualified (or in Jeb's case not qualified).

true   January 4th, 2009 4:57 pm ET

The bush kids might have a better shot than Jeb.

GrogInOhio   January 4th, 2009 4:56 pm ET

Yeah, right. Exactly what America needs... 3 failed Bush presidencies. I don't even think today's Republicans are quite that dimwitted.

16 days till the end of the Bush administration.

Sherrol in Canada   January 4th, 2009 4:56 pm ET

You're darn riight about too many Bushes, Bush 41. Please give the American people a break, they need time to heal.

Robert Jackson   January 4th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

PLEASE NO!!! Florida and the DNC, put every dollar you have to stop this power hungry family. I never want to see the day another Bush is in the whitehouse. I am a Floridian and while Jeb is smarter than his brother W, his priorities are just as askew. He is a smart politician and likes to fake to the left, but he is as conservative as they come and does not represent the values of the vast majority of the US. PLEASE DNC, find a strong democrat to oppose him and fund that person with everything possible to put an end to Jebs career. He should spend time with his crack addicted daughter and not vie for public office again.

Seriously?   January 4th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

Oh God, please No. No. Seriously. No.

Tom in CA   January 4th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

Fooled once – shame on you!
Fooled twice – shame on me!

We've been fooled once by a Bush! We won't be fooled again!

Jeb – run for Senator! You can fool Floridians all the time!

Griff   January 4th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

Brothers!!!! Future!!! America embrace it....

R Wolf   January 4th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Please – no more Bush family members in the White House. They do nothing but ruin this country and have NO ability to understand the American people on any level.

S.K.   January 4th, 2009 4:50 pm ET

The entire Bush clan suffers from mental illness, and that is no joke. It's sad that Americans are such poor judges of character.

LF Oneto - VA   January 4th, 2009 4:50 pm ET

Mr. HW Bush, the US is not a Corporation (although W and Dick probably think so). Your son has done so much damage to this country and is, according to 70 percent of the people, the worst President in modern history and one of the worst in history. I have a great deal of respect for you, but please spare us your parental feelings.

Give me a break!   January 4th, 2009 4:49 pm ET

As a native Floridian – one who lived through 8 years of Bush as Governor of our state – just let me go on record to say that I would NEVER vote for Jeb for the US Senate. We've had enough. During his time in office, he ruined our state – and his cronie Crist is finishing the job for him. The only thing Jeb did right was during the hurricanes of 2004. Other than that – nada, zippo, goose egg. Floridians will remember and will not be fooled.

strong   January 4th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

Still the same old faces, same old families, same old dynasties.
Did you believe that we were going to get "change?" If you said yes, you should have never drunk the koolaid ...

It's all a game, people.

Are you crazy? YES!!!   January 4th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

This family is the craziest family I have seen in the political arena in my life! Can this crazy father see what his son has done to this nation? I have students with perfect GPA that cannot get a job, the economy is in the biigest mess in my generation, I have officiated three funerals for fallen slodiers in our area. I cannot wait for the change that this new President will bring. Anyone that will vote for a Bush is absolutley crazy. They are the doubtest rich oil tycoons I have ever seen. I totally agree that this President Bush is the absolute worst President in our history. Good bye!!!

BKMC   January 4th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

WBsh is the end of the Bushes, enough with the father and sons, they have not served well the great United States of America.

Alan St Lois MO   January 4th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

Hes only chance is to trick the public and change his last name LOL

Barack wins but America loses   January 4th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

I would run in 2012 instead myself. Jeb all the way.

Rick   January 4th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

I don't think anybody in the Republican Party is going to let another Bush get his foot in the door. Not gonna happen for JEB. Not in this lifetime.

Hayden   January 4th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

I am a Republican. I voted for McCain. I will NEVER vote for a Bush again for any office in any state at any time. We are done with the Bush dynasty.

david goldman   January 4th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

YES, YES YES !!!!

FIX SOME OF THOSE MISSING CHROMOSOMES

& WE WILL ELECT A BUSH. PSYCH, NOT REALLY.

I GET AN ATTACK OF NAUSEA EVERY TIME I SEE A BUSH !!!

BB   January 4th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

I think Never would be a good time for any of the Bushies to run. They ran this country into wars and poverty. That's enough running.

susan   January 4th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

God save us from another stupid Bush president!

Justin from New Haven, CT   January 4th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

No more Bushes or Clintons.
