Richard: "The withdrawal, whether the charges are true or not shows a real integrity not usually observed in a politician."
We don't know that. . Does that nake him a man of integrity? Perhaps Obama gave him a choice...withdraw or the boot. If these allegations are true, he's a crook. No intregrity in that. (I've always liked Richardson but, if he's a bum, I admit to being fooled).

We'll see more of this stuff as time goes by. There will be a sewer of sleaze disclosed before the Obama reign is finished. Some of it could have been disclosed before the election but the msm chose not to do so.

@Carramea, that's rich, a Democrat lecturing to Republicans about getting over losses. Gore lost to Bush in Florida eight years ago, but the Democrats haven't gotten over that to this day. That's right, Gore LOST - every recount by independent new organizations showed that Gore lost. That election was not stolen, it was lost by everyone's favorite chubby tree hugger, Gore.

Note to Democrats: Repeating lies for eight years does not make them true.

Its unfortunate but, this is how our politicians should behave. They should always put the country's business first. I didn't see Cheney, Rumsfeld or W step down when they broke the law. I didnt see Bill Clinton step down. Hell, Blagojevich is still in office and Ted Stevens refused to step down before he eventually lost the election. I think we should stop playing these stupid political games and realize that, for the first time in a long time, our leaders are acting like leaders.

You bloggers who are complaining about the news are as guilty as the news you complain about. ALL of this is based solely on speculation. No one has been found guilty of anything so far. It is an investigation. Those take time. It is possible - maybe? - that Richardson simply does not want a lengthy investigation to get in the way of Obama's progress. But who knows, other than those of you who (apparently) have all the facts already to prove him guilty of something.

Texas Teacher, No comment? in regard to one of your liberal friends? Kind of tongue tied by this one, eh?

susie, Don't forget the "Emperor" Governor Eliot Spitzer, that "fine" Democrat from New York who resigned a short time ago because of his scandalous and illegal activity. And, he got off scott free after prosecuting others for the same crime! Just one of many Deocrats who bit the dust. Republicans may not have a perfect record but if you LOOK at the record you will see that Democrats have FAR LESS integrity, in general.

Another example of Obama's bad judgement. Wasn't his good judgement that he claimed was so great throughout the elections? 60 million Americans duped into voting for a regular politician. No New Path, No real Change.

Obama, and our nation, obviously face great challenges.

I hope that Obama can maintain the pressure on the members of his administration to hold to high ethical standards.

I'm glad that Governor Richardson won't be the cause of any wasted time for this upcoming administration.

Our nation doesn't need more scandal or distraction. We had enough of that for the past 8 years. But, wow, so many people have unwittingly made things more difficult for Obama going as far back as the primaries! Obama couldn't even leave his senate seat without some corrupt person (Governor of Illinois) making that a scandal! LOL! It's such a ridiculous pattern that it seems like some sort of conspiracy against Obama! Sheesh! I hope Obama makes it his mission to make government so transparent to the public that the corruption in Congress and in state governments is burned by the light of day.

Go, Obama! I can't wait to see you as our president!!! :-)

karwolo it is defintely about loyalty and Richardson showed no loyalty to the clinton and after his endorsement of Obama he continously whinned about Bill Clinton not liking him any more. Looks like Bill Richardson is not the paragon of virtue people thought. He wanted to be a part of this administration so bad he turned on his friends and then accepted a position that was thought to be well below his level and now he is under investigation. I bet he was told to to withdraw when he accepted the nod he was probably already aware they were looking into his dealings, or did obama transition team skimp on vetting him because they were too busy finding out the color of Bill Clinton underwear in 1992.

I wasn't a Clinton supporter, so I don't have any ax to grind with Richardson, but I just don't see him as the best choice for this post, a key post in our current economic climate. I've seen him do interviews and he just doesn't seem like the kind of exceptionally intelligent individual the rest of Obama's cabinet seem to be.

Investigations happen all the time ...one only needs an allegation...but allegations don't necessarily mean truth. Politics is dirty..and will decieve the public through tools like this. I am so sorry for you Gov. Richardson...
I only wish you had paused your role and stayed unwavering in letting the truth come out. You were destined for Secrectary of State but that didn't work out..sadly. Perhaps this is God leading you in areas that are more vital. My prayers are with you and your family.

I'm sure he is guilty and that's why he was asked to step down.

I doubt Richardson committed any wrong-doing. He has been a committed public servant for years without hint of scandal. That said, I hope these allegations are fully explored so that he might be exonerated.

Good for him in voluntarily withdrawing his nomination until these claims are settled.

I'm sorry to see this because I like Richardson. But, I understand his wish not to taint the new administration or be the cause of distraction. As to Latinos' being disappointed - their disappointment should not be with Richardson, not Obama. Obama demonstrated faith in Richardson in nominating him knowing full well that this investigation was going on. Latinos should be proud if anything that Richardson is putting his country above his personal gain in declining to drag us through more mud.

ALTHOUGH THIS COMES AS A SHOCK AND I'M VERY DISASPPOINTED, , , , , , , I thank you Gov. Bill Richardson for having the wisdom to act unselfishly and allow this sideshow to be taken offline and out of the nations way; so we the people of the United States can right this ship and fix the "Bush/Cheney/Rove/Rumsfeld" disaster. Gov. Bill Richardson, the people of this nation are happy you did not take the same road Senator John Edwards took which was to knowingly place the Democratic Party in a risky situation with full knowledge of questionable baggage emanating from your closet.

The real Bill got caught and was shown the door by Obama.

Knowing how state business is done in New Mexico, there is reason to believe that there are merits to the allegations. In any event, the truth will emerge big enough to fill the Bill and he a jail cell.

No tears being shed with me.

I wrote Richardson off for any position in Obama's cabinet because of his outrageous and disloyal treatment of Hillary Clinton during the primaries.

What goes around comes around, Governor Richardson.

Just political business as usual. Democrats and Republicans alike are all just men and women with a proclivity for greed. This is not a problem that can be attached to any particular party, but better yet it is one of the reasons/perks that cause some to aspire to be politicians in the first place. They know full well what’s at stake here just as CEO's, bankers, pimps and preachers understand that there is great opportunity for personal financial gain in all these vocations if you are so qualified. I believe given the opportunity most of us would get caught up in the easy pickings that are available in these different positions
