President-elect Obama told reporters he got a little emotion Sunday as he left Chicago to move to Washington.

(CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama showed a little of his softer side as he said his goodbyes to Chicago, the city that launched his political career, and headed to Washington to join his wife and two daughters.

“I choked up a little bit leaving my house today,” Obama told reporters as his flight prepared to depart.

The moment was brought on by a reminder of the years Obama and his family spent in the Windy City.

The president-elect told his traveling press corps that he got emotional because a friend of his oldest daughter, Malia, had dropped off a scrapbook of pictures to the Obama’s Chicago home.

“They had been friends since preschool and I just looked through the pages and the house was empty and it was a little tough,” Obama said. “It got me.”

The president-elect did not linger long enough to take any questions from reporters. Instead, he returned to his cabin in the aircraft where he ordered a cheeseburger and fries, according to Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs.

Before leaving Chicago, Obama also met Air Force Col. Scott Turner, who will pilot Air Force One once Obama is inaugurated.

“I am looking forward to seeing you guys in Washington,” Obama also told reporters before they boarded the plane.

God bless the Obama family and to all the horrible people with such hateful and horrible comments find your place somewhere else. After 8 years of hell I find it hard to believe you could find fault with change!

lindy   January 5th, 2009 12:49 am ET

The vitriol is astounding. Bashing Obama instead of coming together has become so unflattering to the rallying of the nation we should be exhibiting . What a detriment to this country. It can serve no purpose then to divide us further. We need to pull together for the common good.

It drives me crazy when the GOP can't decide to pull for Obama or bash him out of pure ideology. Are you kidding me? Grow up people.

We are in serious, serious trouble and he has some good ideas. if they don't coincide with your own ideas that's the way it is. Nothing could be worse then the last eight years. Nothing could be worse then McCain and the numskull Joe the plumber or Palin an example of motherhood no one would admire.

DC-4-MO,

THAT IS A GREAT STORY & IT

IS THE STORY OF THIS ELECTION.

OUR NEW PRESIDENT IS AN EXAMPLE HIMSELF THAT

IN AMERICA YOU DREAM IT, YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT. IT IS ALSO

A STORY OF A PEOPLE WITH HEARTS AS BIG AS THEIR NATION.

YOU SON CAN BECOME THE PRESIDENT OF HIS TIME.

Good luck President Elect Obama and family. Our prayers are with you and your family. I look forward to seeing you and your beautiful family in the White House. May god continue to bless you with his great wisdom when you have to make difficult choices and strength when the opposition attack you. Reading this thread makes me very angry as well as sad when any American wishes our President any physical harm or ill will or failure. We are all in this together. Our individual success depends on our Country's success. God Bless America

Charlize   January 5th, 2009 12:45 am ET

The new president elect is just as human as anybody else; he and his family are leaving their roots to move into a new life, and he shows emotion about it. Nothing wrong about that. Yet, racist bigots, Obama haters (the great minority, 20% or less of the population) who consider him less than human, only because of his and his family's color, take this chance to say stupid things like "I wish him to choke up to death", because they can't believe a non-white will be their president. Thank God these brain-damaged minorities are becoming less and less every day. The proof: Obma,a won. People with brains prevailed!

I am a U.S. Army vet, and I can't understand why any "American" is not hoping and praying that "OUR" new president will be a great leader. Do you not realize that we are losing our jobs, homes, families, our financial status is in chaos, and our men and women(due to war). Yeah, he's black, yeah he may not have the experience, etc, etc. Please pray that God bless the U.S. and our leaders!! I would be happy if a 10yr old could pull us out of this funk we are in!! We need to get our homes, jobs, financial system, etc. back in order!! I don't care about party this, color that, miss me with that. We need to focus on unity and achieving some goals to help "Americans"

GOD bless you and your beautilful family. We love you all. I have no doubt in my mind that you will do great things for our country. I sure there were emotions tied to leaving your Chicago home.. you had years vested and many treasured memoris.
Can't wait until January 20th. Even though I can't be there in person...but takint that day off forsure. At least I can be in front of my 52',HDTV. All the naysayers should be grateful that we will finally have a man who happens to be an Africian American who is well-spoken, intelligent and community organizer (sumptin like the mayor of Wasilla LOL) And most of all Mr President Obama is easy on the eyes.
My prayer to GOD... protect President Obama and keep his family safe.
Can wait to see Michelle gown....I know she will look fabulous!.

I agree that ignoring the ignorant hate mongers comments is best. Well for us with brains and intellect. I do however think that the Obama admin. should use the Patriot Act that Bush set up to monitor the hate spewing hillbillies and send them to a new Gitmo if need be.

Bless you Obama, just be an honest president, keep your cabinet and employees clean and accountable. It will be nice to have a president who wasn't born with a silver spoon in their mouth for "ONCE".

Ed Henry is always on top of these stories ... it's nice to have some high-powered journalism at a broadcast outlet like CNN and not just pretty faces. Fifteen years of print reporting before he sought out a camera seems to have made a difference. And he gets the personal angle of these charmed yet flawed people who work in politics, without judging them. Nice work CNN. And some people think he has a pretty face. Not me.

Cathy   January 5th, 2009 12:26 am ET

Man, we're reading about Michelle and Captain B's dates and now Obama's up-chuck reflexes. Pretty soon the media will be telling us how much he loves Spagetti-O's. Who needs a solid leader when we can all bask in how "awesome" Obama is? Maybe he'll use his basketball skills to help settle the fighting in Gaza. After four years could I really be obsessed with him the way the liberal media is... nah.

Your right, he is being judged already, but he has also been made out to be the next coming of the lord.

Someone wrote...

"That nauseated feeling will be upon you when you realize that you've elected someone who's way in over their head…

We are about to get rid of a President that has been in over his head for 8+ years!

This person went on to say...

"the stupidity still amazes me; how so many voters (can't really call them Americans for supporting this charade) are totally fooled…and don't question anything about this guy….

What comes around, goes around! The stupidity has been amazing to most of us for the last 2 Bush terms in office!

We've all heard Bush and his cabinet say...

"There was nothing inappropriate" about this or that! And you conservative/confederate Lemmings believe it…

Our country is (and has been for the last 8 years) in sad shape when there's this many people who, agreeably want change, as I do, but will go the extreme of electing someone who's totally inexperienced i.e. George Bush...especially during these treacherous times.

His policies won't only ruin our economy further (than Bush has done), he'll endanger our very lives with his waffling and resistance to closing the borders.

How many illegals entered this country in the last 8 years???

The radical muslims welcome him; because he's weak…..and that's what they want. That's why they waited for Bush to take office, because he's a weak alcoholic moron!

How can anybody hate Obama after Bush the destroyer ruined America and the world! Just goes to show the confederates still wave the rebel flag!

We were part of over a 100,00 that showed up for a rally in Saint Louis, and my son who is 11 kept up with this man from the time he was announced – even to the point that he asked his dad to purchased the books that was written by this man. Although we are driven republicans – which made much conversation @ home to have a driven 11 year asking and requesting that we chg our votes this year because this man was going to win. Even our circle of friends and family was amazed @ his predications down to the last minute of the election. My 11 year old kept track of all the states min by min and around 8:30pm central standard time he stated that PEBO was going to win before 12:00midnight/morning. We of course, still did not want to acknowledge this by an 11 year old – but by 9:30pm – we too realized that he was going to win. My 11 year old cried and cried and of course we cried too because it was unbelievable to see the under age youth so involved and for it to come out like he predicted long ago – left his two middle age parents in Awe. Not to mention we voted dem for the first time. We do wish you the best PEBO – greetings from a family of a 11-year old who admired you from the beginning! Still bring tears to my eyes thinking about what inspiration he has given to our young!

I believe those who are tearing down Obama before he's even had a chance to lead must be still in the same gears as they've been for the past eight years.

It's amusing to say the least, to hear them talk about Obama's lack of experience, his waffling, and inablilities when in hind sight, most, if not all of them, elected George Dubyah, "I'm the Decider without a clue or map to help me find one," once or maybe even twice!! And I bet my bent and badly tortured pay cheque not one of them got to have a Beer with Georgie the "I'm just a regular guy like you," except my Paw is Rich cause his Friends are all CEOs with the Big Oil Guys!

Thankfully the majority of Americans had the brains to close the book and start anew !

The President-elect and Michelle Obama are protective of their children's privacy - they learned to be so the hard way after that one interview of the children that they allowed. I expect that the daughters will have healthy childhoods.

Not only that, but the media have let him get away with a lot that most people are unaware of. I read these blogs and I just can't believe so many people who somehow think Obama is this new type of politician. It's like these people have been sleeping for the past year. Wake up! How can you take Obama's critics seriously? They're the same ones who wanted to impeach Clinton for lying about a blow-job but yet forgive Bush for committing treason, supporting torture, and fabricating "intelligence" to start an unnecessary war that's cost the lives of over 700,000 innocent Iraqi civilians.

Bush's catastrophic decision to invade has taken the lives of over 4000 U.S. service members and permanently crippled 30,000 more at a cost of 650 billion plus dollars and still climbing. Bin Ladin is still free and the terrorist threat is as omnipresent and by most expert accounts more widespread then before the Iraqi invasion.

Under Bush's reign our national debt has increased by nearly three-fold from 3.8 to 11.0 TRILLION dollars and yet the economy is in one of it's worse slumps in U.S. history.

Who'll ever forget "Mission Accomplished", "Bring it On", "Al Quaeda is in it's death throes", "Heckuva job Brownie", "He (Osama Bin Ladin)can run but he can't hide". Obama haters, i.e. Bush supporters not the sharpest tools in the toolbox.

President-elect Obama:

"We the People" have spoken. Your election, Sir, as President of the United States of America has given renewed meaning to Abraham Lincoln's immortal words “...that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth". And “We the People”, in our own modest way, have the responsibility to ensure that these words would have the same meaning for all future generations.

Politically Speaking   January 4th, 2009 10:52 pm ET

It's really appalling to read the comments from the Republicans, racists, and Obama haters. Even if you do not like the guy, he is going to be YOUR president, the president of the country you CLAIM to love. Shouldn't you be wishing for his success since it would mean a better America? I guess some of you only love the U.S. as long as there's a white American as president?

DC-4 - MO   January 4th, 2009 10:52 pm ET

My 11 year old cried and cried and of course we cried too because it was unbelievable to see the under age youth so involved and for it to come out like he predicted long ago – left he two middle age parents in Awe. Not to mention we voted dem for the first time. We do wish you the best PEBO – greetings from a family of a 11-year old who admired you from the beginning! Still bring tears to my eyes thinking about what inspiration he has given to our young!

There is no longer any reason to even respond to the Obama haters.

It's true because they are becoming irrelevant. They are just baggages that this country doesn't need to focus on. There world are so small and insignificant. that the only entertainment they have is to hate. Someday it will consume them so we can lawfully put them where they belong; The Asylum. The new PE is not deterred by them why should we. It appears that the smaller we dignify their animosity the faster they're becoming obsolete.

Looking so much forward to January 20th. I'm just sick about the problems being dumped into Obama's lap by Presdent Bush. Bush was given a balanced budget by Bill Clinton and now Bush has spent us so far in dept that our children's grandkids will still be paying this debt off. Bush is giving Obama an economy that is the worst since the Great Depression...people are losing jobs in a record manner, losing their homes, and losing their retirements. In fact, I can't think of a single thing that is better now than it was 8 years ago. Not a single thing! While I like George and Laura Bush as people, George Bush has been the worst President in my life thus far. Shame on those for putting him into office for a 2nd term. God Bless Obama and his family.

We will soon see if the media darling is actually able to govern. A scary thought is that we are about to hand the country over to someone who has not even had corporate executive experience, much less the experience of running a state. Since the media has been so biased, and refuses to paint an accurate picture of this man, we will not know for certain what will happen. This man has not proven himself to be an FDR or other capable governing entity. Based on media coverage, we are all supposed to believe that all will be well on Jan 21st. As a skeptic, I'll wait and see, but prepare for the worst.

Nothing ever Changes   January 4th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

Some of the people on this blog need to set down and figure out exactly what they want for this country. It is surprising that some would still spew the vitriolic hatred for one person. You would think that people would be willing to give Obama a chance, I would be they would want the same for themselves. Of course this shows the hypocrisy of this nations, what is fair and right for you and me does not apply to all. It is a sad testament to how our society has evolved and we wonder why we are hated around the world. Look at the way we treat each other, it is never like you would want to be treated, it is always how you think someone should be treated.

Peter TX   January 4th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

I remember the day Bush was sworn in in 2001. After a stolen election, there were dark clouds overhead in Washington DC that day.

I am a left leaning Independent. I am of a certain age. I have never ever seen such utter destruction of our Constitution and economy as I have in the last eight years.

Dear PE Obama, I cried when you were announced the winner of the the election and were to become the 44th President, along with so many others in this country.

May God be with you, we have a disastrous mess to clean up after eight years of corruption. May the sun shine on your Inaguration Day. May the wind be always at your back. Most Americans, the ones who voted for you, and many others who did not, are praying for you.

I am so proud to call you my President.

OMG I just started crying all over again seeing that plane lift off. Help is on its way, people, help is on its way.

Ken in NC   January 4th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

@KEN H.
Ken you do not have to be a supporter of PE Obama but give him the respect that goes with the position he has been granted by the majority of the people of this nation. Also remember that your success or failure depends on his success or failure. If wish failure upone him you wish it for yourself also. It is time for us to come together as ONE nation and turn ourselves around. That means we must all work thgether and make sacrifices together and help others that are less fortunate than we are together.

Not to make this effort would be unAmerican for anyone among us. I did not vote for PE Obama but he is my President Elect now and while I do not agree with all of his ideas, I know the ideas of the failed Bush administration are not working so I will support him. If his attempts do not work then I will work to vote in another President when his term is over but for now he is our PE. Please try to work with him. Give him a chance before declaring him an outright failure before he ever takes office.

The nation is in trouble and we look for your leadership to guide us. We offer our suupport and wish you and your family the very best in the coming years. Change won't be easy or immediate, but we are behind you.

You will be in my prayers, Barack, Michelle, Malia, and Sasha, also known as the future First Family. Your safety and well being are most important in mind. Read any of the CNN blogs related to you and you will understand why I am concerned. Some people of our United States of America(ns) are filled with hate and racism like your former oppopnent. But I have hope because of the others who post here and voted for you. We the People ~ have spoken.

To the black person on the other post regarding Michelle and the girls moving to DC, the girls hair is just fine. There is nothing wrong with Malia wearing braids/cornrows and Sasha having a nappy ponytail how dare you. As a black person you know the deal with our hair and water. They were on vac. for crying out loud. If a white person called them nappy headed we would have a Don Imus situation all over again.

I actually have been choking up as well as I slowly come to the realization that you are going to be president of the United States. Not even a person who was elected on his own credentials. You, Barack Obama, are an engineered president. You were created by the media. You are a puppet. You are the answer to decades old "white guilt." How does that make you feel to be president? How do you feel knowing that every spin the media put out about you cast you only in a positive light? Where was the critical analysis? Good luck Obama and let me remind you of something. Please don't try and take my guns...I promise you it will not be a wise thing to do.

yellow dog democrat   January 4th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

I see the typical "whiney naysayers and I'm so good goody two shoes" are still at their Obama bashing best!

I for one and about 75% of folks polled are happy and glad to see someone with heart and soul coming into the White House. I am sad that he and his family are leaving behind many good friends - but they will be there for them when the "mission is accomplished"....

It will be fascinating to see such a fresh and new view coming into the American Political Scene and at such a critical time in our nations history....Folks this is history and we are witnessing it....there are so many loved ones that are gone and didn't get to see this day come...I feel especially blessed.

First let me say, you have no basis in fact for your accusations that President-Elect Obama is not a Christian. He and everyone who knows him, to include Clinton and McCain has said he is a Christian. Secondly how can you hope the President of the United States would fail, this would also lead to the failure of this great country.

I suggest you step back and reevaluate your intentions for this country, I would find it hard to believe that any American would want a new President to fail leading to the failure of this country. This vitriolic rhetoric serves no purpose but to divide this country, in this time it is imperative that we stand as one. Are you one of these people who actually agree with the Russian Professor who suggest the United States will break up, judging by your rhetoric it does raise some concern.

They don't call us The Sandwich Generation for nothing when we get into our 40s and 50s and juggle caring for parents and children. In Obama's case, he's been transferred. Also always a tough move.

Didn't take any questions from reporters uh? Don't think he'll answer any of you when he lands in Washington. One of you might ask him what he thinks about Israel. He has no answer.

Israel worried about obama presidency:
News article reports why Israel's worried.

As for our president-elect, his all-too-coy insistence that "we have only one president at a time" has been selective from the start. Glad to pontificate on stimulus packages and union benefits, Obama has used the one-president mantra to avoid taking stands on difficult issues that bedevil or bewilder him.

Our president-elect needed to make a clear, prompt statement in support of Israel. He didn't. If I were an Israeli leader, I'd be worried, too.

Obama's notorious for avoiding firm stands that might alienate any important constituency. But you can't have it both ways in the Middle East. He needs to stand up in support of Israel. Now.

Israeli soldiers should not have to go into battle worrying about an American bullet in the back.

On Jan 20th an amazing event will occur, one that many Americans fail to truly understand. A smooth transition of power will occur as one party leaves the Presidency and another takes the oath of office.

There will no tanks in the streets, no riots, no military takeovers..... just a short ceremony to mark the occasion.

So my fellow American's, on both the left and the right, enjoy this moment, for it makes us unique.

You can go back to attacking each other on the 21st. As for me. I did not vote for President Obama, but I wish him the best.

TCM   January 4th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

Jon –
Thank heavens he's willing to leave his Chicago home and try to clean up the big mess created by the previous administration. We need him.

Have you any clue about the devastation he's leaving behind in Chicago? Here's some nuggets for you; 10.25% sales tax rate....higher murder rate there, than soldiers killed in Iraq in 2008....known for "Chicago style," political corruption...Shady Rezko...Shady Blag...dealings...

And you want him to clean up Bush's mess? Considering the magnitude and scales of difference...look at Chicago, and then imagine the rest of the country like that....Bush didn't make a mess; the liberal puke congress did...thank Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, and "I'll vote present," Obama for that!

So many liberals are in the dark....

Obama's all choked up? Too bad he just didn't choke, along with the rest of you liberals....although, that nauseated feeling will be upon you when you realize that you've elected someone who's way in over their head...the stupidity still amazes me; how so many voters (can't really call them Americans for supporting this charade) are totally fooled...and don't question anything about this guy....case in point; he merely gets on TV and says, "There was nothing inappropriate said between his staff and Gov Blag..." and you Lemmings believe it...our country is in sad shape when there's this many people who, agreeably want change, as I do, but will go the extreme of electing someone who's totally inexperienced; especially during these treacherous times. His policies won't only ruin our economy further, he'll endanger our very lives with his waffling and resistance to closing the borders. The radical muslims welcome him; because he's weak.....and that's what they want.

This is perhaps the only and last chance we have to turn this country
around. We really are in deep trouble! For anyone to wish harm or failure on Mr. Obama absolutely blows me away. This country stays divided and we WILL fail.To guys like Ken and Lee on this blog: I nearly died in the military to defend your freedom-If you honestly believe what you are saying here, then you don't deserve anything great that freedom brings.LET IT GO! Your hearts are filled with hatred.
Get on your knees and pray-The Lord can heal your bitter souls.

When things do (eventually) turn around as a result of policies put in place by Obama's Presidency, I wonder what all the "haters" will be complaining about then? Too much money for Christmas? Too strong a sense of job security? Too great a sense that their financial future is solid?

I'm thinking it'll be reduced to stuff like, "I still don't like the way he walks" or "Look at that arrogant look on his face" or "Yeah....well......he's STILL muslim".

I love (some) Appalacians and Southerners for their foolish humor sometimes.

landandair   January 4th, 2009 9:52 pm ET

A majority of Americans claim to be christians, but there are some very un-christian like attitudes/ comments coming from the same. Prior to Bush, things were perfert, but over the last 8 years, we saw the constitution trampled on,illegal wiretappes, Haliburton profit , Blackwarter crime and Scooter evade justice. We saw the invasion of Iraq and trillons in tax dollars spent on it. So I think we have already seen the most corrupt adminstration in history and I could just puke.

In a true Christian manner, let me say God Bless America and God Bless the President Elect ( by the people and for the people) Obama.

MI blogger   January 4th, 2009 9:51 pm ET

BluesBrothers – I totally agree with you. This is such a divided country and the haters keep on hating.

Amazingly enough, people like Hannity and Limbaugh actually like to keep spreading the hate. It keeps their ratings up.

My oh my you Obama haters are back again from whatever rocks you crawlwed out from.He will be YOUR president and there's nothing you can do but keep whining like a bunch of losers.Oh and Ken H you better hope that he doesn't fall flat on his decieving face as you put it because we need Obama to restore what we've lost in the past eight years in this country if that is at all possible and if it is restored Obama will be the one to do so .Oh and by the way what faith are you because the last time I heard you can be of christian faith but not have the same beliefs... Christian Science is a faith and their faith of healing is through God not professional medical treatment so does that make them not a christian. And as far as Obama supporting abortion and gay rights even though there are millions that share his beliefs it is not you that shall judge him it is God....PS in the future check your spelling ...it's hope not hoe you HOE

Jezuth Cries   January 4th, 2009 9:50 pm ET

(To all of right wing "special children" below) For the record, I have not since the beginning of time stated that the two issues of GAY MARRIAGE and ABORTION are the hard and fast means to determine who is and who ISN'T a Christian!

There are so many things that I state in my Word, the Commandments, etc ...and I hate to tell you this, but... YOU do not meet the standard. Do me a big favor will you? Let me reserve the right to determine who the real Christians are will you?? I'll sort it out in due time. You are but a fallible human with your own prejudices and interpretations. How about keeping my commandments to prove that YOU love me? Let's start with the all important one of loving thy neighbor? How about doing for the least of these, because after all ....that's the same that you are doing unto me in the process.

I've been watching the many ills you have inflicted on individuals, peoples and nations in my name. You can trust that you will answer for it, just as those you are in conflict with over these two issues will answer for their actions.. or inaction.

MD   January 4th, 2009 9:50 pm ET

@GRITS, Actually a majority of the people in this country did not elect Obama. If you count all those eligable to vote, almost 2/3rds of them either didn't vote, or voted for someone else. Obama was elected with 1/3rd of the eligable voters' votes. But what's 100 million people give or take who didn't vote for him?

What else do we have? What else did we have going for us?

There will be haters, there will be true opposition, but I don't think any of that is really going to deter Obama. He has the character our country has LONG been in need of.

He is a focused person and in my opinion the best one for the job.
I can't wait to see what changes he will make for us, because right now we are a bus going downhill, full of people, without a working set of brakes.................what other option do we have??

I think Richardson made a smart move. I was shocked to see he was nominated for this postition anyway and not Secretary of State. His foreign relations outweigh his "commerce experience' in every way, shape and form. Not to mention, I live in New Mexico where only the strong survive and graduate to modern living. Everyone else is still left in their mobile homes that cost the price of most houses everywhere else in the US. The little money people have is spent on alcohol, drugs, or gambling... Or it's spent bailing out family members who have gotten into trouble with alcohol, drugs, and gambling. Richardson needs to focus on making New Mexico a great place to live for EVERYONE and not just the rich who turn their heads away from the reality of their surroundings.

There is no longer any reason to even respond to the Obama haters. They will eventually be consumed with their own poison. That is what happens to those consumed with hate. All I can say to Barack Obama is I know how tough it is to leave a place where you have put down roots. It is truely gut wrenching to leave behind friends and family; but sometimes you are called to a date with destiny. Lord knows difficult days lie ahead; given the giant mess you are about to inherit; but if the American people give you the time and space needed, I believe you can and will get the U.S. back on course. God Speed!!!

President Elect Obama:

Remember, with God, all things are possible. I want you to know that it's going to take time. Don't let anyone rush you into anything. Always consult in the Lord and seek his guidance. Next, hear all sides of the problem and think about what's best for the country and all its people. It's time out for partisian politics. You campaigned on that theme so keep that in mind as the democrats, republicans, and independents try to persuade you one way or the other. Remember too, that you have a family and keep them close. When others put you out to dry, your family will always have your back. Stay too to yourself.

God bless you and I know you will do a great job. I know its going to take time, not 1, 2, 3, or even four years with the mess we have now but take small bites at a time and you will bet it done.

We love you.

Save your christian views for your church. You act as if abortions and gay marriage weren't going on the last 8 years. You're obviously a one-dimentional voter = bad for America.

Jennifer   January 4th, 2009 9:16 pm ET

Christians who are against abortion because they believe all life begins at conception therefore an unborn life is just as valuable as a born life, are believing in something that is contrary to GOD's law! In the Bible, God's law states that the value of an unborn is worth much less than the value of a born life. Believing anything other than that is saying you do not believe in God's law and you should not call yourself a Christian. But most so-called christians are astonished to find that is what the bible says. They probably also believe that there were 3 wise man which isn't any the bible either.

Hey, @anon, since when have all articles on any news site been perfectly written? They are routinely full of typos and even gross grammatical errors. Writing of nit-picking, why does your question begin with a lower case letter? Perhaps you might review your own writing before critiquing others'. Oh, that's right; you're not a pro. Get it? We saw you in Jacksonville the day before the election and my 14 yr sold son said, "Mom we just saw the next POTUS speak." I told him I hoped so. Everyone should give you the benefit of the doubt and pray as a nation that you are able to turn this country around. Please bring back the line item veto and make the next stimulus package count. There must be oversight and restrictions. No blank checks FOR ANYONE.

May God bless you and your family. May he keep you safe and give you strength to make the tough decisions (even if they aren't the popular choice). We wish the girls good luck in their new school.

CAMI   January 4th, 2009 9:09 pm ET

Wow, only one or two negative comments for a change.

I'm joining the rest of you here to wish our PE Obama only the best. It will feel good to put the last horrible 8 years behind us, even though I know that patience will be necessary. That being said, just knowing that someone who has the country's best interests at heart will be in the White House in 16 days, is encouraging.

On another note, I cannot, for the life of me, understand those who post such negative things here, wishing for PE Obama to fail, just so they can say they were right. Don't they realize that if he fails, we all (the entire country) fail, themselves included. Is that what they really want? Why would anyone wish for more bad times after what we've been through. Reading their posts, I know exactly what "cutting off your nose to spite your face" means.

To whoever asked about the Obamas house in Chicago – I read somewhere that they are keeping it.

Godd luck and God bless you and your family PE Obama. I am so looking forward to Jan. 20th and beyond.

CNN: Please don't put this into moderation like you usually do, although I have no idea why it always happens.

Saddened by all the hatred   January 4th, 2009 9:08 pm ET

It is truly disgusting what so many people chose to write in response to this article. You sound so bitter and angry because an incredibly intelligent man who loves his country has been elected president. What on earth is wrong with you? Just because all of his beliefs aren't in line with 100% of yours doesn't make him a poor choice for president. Come on, the choice has been made, the country has spoken and he is our next president. Let go of all the hatred, resentment and anger and lets come together as a country and support him! Remember – we are the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!

Mary   January 4th, 2009 9:06 pm ET

How very lucky we are to have some intelligent people back in the White House. When I saw the column of "Bushisms," it made me laugh at Bush's stupidity. How on earth did we survive these eight years?! God Bless the United States of America.

Al   January 4th, 2009 9:06 pm ET

Good luck to our new president and to all of us, to recover after 8 years. Never thought that so good, intelligent and capable person can be elected as a president.

Kim   January 4th, 2009 9:06 pm ET

What is WRONG with you people??

Wish the man the best and give him a chance, for the love of Christ. All you so-called Christians with so much hate in your hearts, you should be ashamed.

Godspeed, Mr. Obama. May you and your family be blessed and kept safe.

MK. President we all that have much Love for this Country, must have and shall have Great Love for you and the First Family. I as an Afdrican American Male can feel the pounding of anticipated Greatness coursing through the veins of History. I pray for your mental, emotional, physical and traveling safetyas you and God undertake this daunting task. Be brave, strong, and true too yourself, family and Country Mr. President.

NON-NEWS! Who cares.

Dorothy In NC   January 4th, 2009 9:05 pm ET

Everytime there is an article about Obama, there are so many sarcastic things people say. This man hasn't even been inauguarated and people are criticizing and judging him already. He is a brilliant and educated, works hard, cares about people, and is a devoted husband and family man.....my goodness we can't have a man with those virtues in the White House.
Mr President-elect, I was origionally a Hillary supporter but it is my pleasure to wish you the very best of luck and I pray that between the miserable mess George W. has left you and the cynnacism of some of our people, you don't get discouraged.
People just make me sick.

How wonderful that most of the bloggers on here were nice, warm Americans, even one who did not vote for him.

He is a wonderful, bright, kind man who always thinks the best of things and people. Those who do not appreciate that are the losers. God bless the Obamas and Bidens. They are all great Americans and deserve the best.

Wow, Ken. I suppose you do claim to be a Christian. Aren't we supposed to be living gospels? I don't recall any scripture where Christ wished somone to "fall flat on his lying deceiving face". Looks like you have elected yourself fortune teller, judge, jury and executioner.

It's scary to see the blind adoration of Obama on every political forum. I grew up in Germany in the 1940s and this reminds me far to much of the HJ (Hitlerjugend – Hitler Youth) for my taste.

Good Luck Mr. President, what a mess at least you have

What a great feeling to see an article about Obama and the comments section is not riddled with racist remarks by necocons and bigots.

They're all hiding and licking their wounds. What a relief. Our country is on its way to becoming the greatest in the world again!

Ken H.   January 4th, 2009 8:50 pm ET

I hoe this man falls flat on his lying, deceiving face. He will do nothing but tear this great nation down with his scandelous past. He is NOT a Christian because those that truly have Christ as the center of their lives does not support abortion or gay rights.

Larry   January 4th, 2009 8:49 pm ET

Dear President-Elect Obama,

I wish you and your entire family the very, very best as you embark on your Presidency. What you will need to do is jump on an Engine going the wrong way at full speed. You will need to stop the engine, turn it around, and head back in the right direction. It will take several years to see major results, but I have full confidence in your abilities, which come from G-d.

Most Respectfully Yours,

He's choked up alright because his Chicago-style politics are already unraveling; Blago and Richardson are only the tip of the iceberg. I am not a fan of Pres. Bush, but if the people that think Obama can clean up this mess they are badly mistaken. Congress is more to blame then Bush. And Obama will have to control congress. The American people have spoken and congress must listen to what the new Guy is attempting to do. I seriously, doubt as flawed and corrupt as our elected officals are, that he can do it.

There is no bigger slap in the face to the concept of welfare than the $400k/yr we've paid 'w' to ruin our country. What a waste.

libs be dopes   January 4th, 2009 8:24 pm ET

I did not vote for Obama but nevertheless I wish him the best in getting both Parties headed in the right direction. I do believe he will have more problems with Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy and the rest of the "old school" Dems that with the Repubs.

They, like many more are in it for themselves, with the voter, the job they were sent to do, and the Country not even on their horizon.

If Obama is going to "change" anything he better start with those folks.

Bill   January 4th, 2009 8:24 pm ET

We have faith in you, Mr. Obama, not that you can or will be able to provide a solution for every problem on the spot. Rather, you were elected because we know you will think before acting, that you will act on behalf of ALL Americans, and that you will surround yourself with the best advice and counsel.

I think even your worst oponents wish you and your family well as you adjust to a new city and a new lifestyle.

God be with you.

nclaw441   January 4th, 2009 8:24 pm ET

I wish Obama and all of us luck. I agree with a prior poster that he has no idea of what he is in for, and I fear that he is greatly out of his league. His promise of change is vanishing before our eyes as he brings back Clinton hacks, one of whom has already had to back out (Richardson). Simply using the word "change" will have to stop and Obama is going to have to say, at least, what he really means by "change." I am hopeful, but not optimistic.

I wonder if the press will be as "kind" to him as they were (not) to President Bush. I fear that this "historic" president will be given the benefit of every doubt by the press and the people will never know what he is REALLY up to.

Sean   January 4th, 2009 8:24 pm ET

Too bad for you,Lee...

Eugene   January 4th, 2009 8:24 pm ET

The scary thing about all of this is that I actually think Obama and his cabinet understand what is ahead of them than the Bush crew could even explain. Bush is a good guy but was horrible in some key areas of his Presidency. One major area was giving the American people hope in hard times. I believe Americans do best when they are given hope, no matter how hard times get, hope strengthens who we are. Obama knows how to embrace American hopes and articulate them in a way Bush could not. Fear is not the way. So I support you 100% Mr. Pres.

Bohicaed   January 4th, 2009 8:24 pm ET

MR. PRESIDENT,

OUR HEARTS & MINDS WILL BE WALKING THROUGH

THE FRONT DOORS OF THE WHITE HOUSE WITH YOU.

Carl Justus   January 4th, 2009 8:19 pm ET

If feels good to have a president that has lived in the trenches and knows what it is to have scratch for a living, but has friends that will help even when it is hard on them.
A man that knows what it is like to be poor, to try to bring a community to together. To help those who are afraid to walk the streets. To work in an neighborhood that has drug dealers and poverty.
I look forward to the future and hope Obama can bring the people together and stop the practice of divide and conquer. To bring hope, giving, helping one anotther, a sense of doing what John Kennedy said to ask what we can do for America, instead of asking what America can do for me.

Jenn   January 4th, 2009 8:19 pm ET

May God give you all the wisdom, knowledge and understanding so that you may lead this country into greatness once again.

Leah   January 4th, 2009 8:17 pm ET

It is sad that you did not puke and then choke which would mean one less ignoramus to deal with!

Sheryl in Virginia   January 4th, 2009 8:16 pm ET

My spirits soar as we count down to January 20. The last 8 years have been a horror show, and I am relieved all that is behind us, although President-elect Obama has many messes to clean up.

Very best wishes to our new President Barack Obama, his delightful wife and children. We the people need you and I believe you were put here at this time to make a difference for our country and each of us individually.

God bless.

Moving onwards and upwards. There are some rough days ahead before things get better. May the Lord God continue to bless you and keep you. Keep your hand in His hand and He will see you through no matter what. You have all of America's support.

DRS - Washington, DC   January 4th, 2009 8:14 pm ET

Mr. President,

May be angels (including "Toot") continue to provide a wall of protection around you. People suck as Lee and Helen (above) wish you ill-will and harm. I rebuke people like that.

Mr. President, I KNOW you will do great things because you actually "GET IT." You, unlike Bush, understand the plight of the ordinary American.

Paul   January 4th, 2009 8:13 pm ET

Helen from VT, you are truly an ignoramus.

Beverly Sims   January 4th, 2009 8:12 pm ET

Mr President, G-d bless you and keep you and give you the wisdom to take the necessary decisions and actions that all situations which lie before us call for. May G-d give you the courage to do His will in decisions made regarding Israel. Regarding her, remember He says, "I will bless them that bless you and I will curse those that curse you". In G-ds name, let's move forward with purpose, determination and justice and let's make America great again. G-gspeed, sir.

He left Chicago but brought all the Chicago corruption with me!!! You'll have the same support from me that you and the Dems gave Bush went he went to Washington. You will prove me right and be THE worst president in our history. Change we don't believe in.....

Howard   January 4th, 2009 8:08 pm ET

It is sickening to see the kind of hatred and mean-spiritedness so frequently posted in The Ticker, Are these people incapable of appreciating just how perilous a situation our nation is in right now? That we all need to give our next President our support and encouragement, regardless of whether we voted for him, if for no other reason than that each of us will suffer if he fails?

ANSWER:
Since the advent of computers and the Internet, when ‘memory’ at that time came at a premium. Learn your history before you critique.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU MR. PRESIDENT.

WE HAVE BEEN CHOCKED UP SINCE WE ELECTED YOU.

Dan   January 4th, 2009 8:06 pm ET

Hey PE Barack, you choked up for what. You do not deserve to be our president. You know that. Now that you are in the white house, you have to wonder how to perform. You cannot depend on your advisers at 3:00AM in the morning. Do not pretend and show American people what you really are.

Bridget   January 4th, 2009 8:06 pm ET

Lee, your writing makes all of us want to puke. Go Obama. We are all with you!!!!

I did not vote for Mr. Obama but I wish him the best. We must stand behind our leaders whoever is voted in. If we do not believe in them how can we expect any different from the rest of the world. Good Luck Mr.Obama I will be rooting for you.

Curious dude   January 4th, 2009 8:03 pm ET

Is this the house that Obama and Rezko bought? Anyway, I hope he doesn't forget where he came from.

Becky, Midwest   January 4th, 2009 8:03 pm ET

Oh, who cares?

What I want to know, is why the hell didn't Obama move to DC when he first became Senator from Illinois? It's very strange for him not to have moved there several years ago. Why didn't he? It's not like Chicago is a short train ride away. Very odd. This is one reason he has zero connections in Washington. If Washington wasn't good enough for him then, why now?

Rmyk   January 4th, 2009 8:03 pm ET

God help us and this nation with this inexperienced loser as our leader. I'm not a GW supporter, but this guy's ideas will make this country even weaker. His picks for his cabinet and staff have proven what a train wreck his is ALREADY! Life IS NOT what you see on TV people!

Bill   January 4th, 2009 8:01 pm ET

- Lee, that kind of proves you are a sicko. Puke away, sicko!!!!

Concerned GA voter   January 4th, 2009 8:01 pm ET

It was a surreal moment to see him get off an official plane. I hope and pray that God will be with him and his family during their time in office and I pray that God will continue to provide him with strenght and wisdom. (Richie....they will keep their home in Chicago and will use it when he goes on vacation...you know, like W's ranch in Crawford, TX....this will continue to be the family home).

Rick   January 4th, 2009 8:01 pm ET

You will be back, trying to clear your other crooks who you have stuck in charge. Seems your vetting process is not that good, so whos next to fall from the Obama group..... Seem slike Obama is not even in yet and the distractions are all coming out, hmmmm looks like history repeats itself every time a Democrate gets in office...

Ivan Sanchez   January 4th, 2009 8:00 pm ET

Lee,
Be sure you puke on yourself! I'll enjoy that!

President-elect Barack Obama will be walking into a sea of problems this nation hasn’t faced in decades; I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes! Most of the problems bush created could have been prevent if the idiot would have listen to the voice of America and the world rather than his own egotistical self! As far as I’m concern there never was a 43th president of the United States; we had a dictator instead!

Good Luck PE Obama,

You have inherited a mess from the last 8 yrs of bad administration and corruption. I do not expect for the " change" to take place right away since there is so much that you have to clean up it is impossible to believe that this can be accomplished in a couple of months, but I know that under you and your administration, it will get done!!!

God bless you and God bless the USA!!!

Sherrol in Canada   January 4th, 2009 7:55 pm ET

Good luck to you PE Obama and God bless.

TELL me about it. I wonder if some of them would cheer (privately) should anything bad happen to Obama (God forbid). I wouldn't put it past them. Plus, anyone that WANTS Obama's policies to fail isn't a true American, it seems to me. Does THAT sound familiar, Obama-haters? Everyone loses.

Donna   January 4th, 2009 7:47 pm ET

Lee–what did you hope to accomplish by your post? Now, the ticker has been an interesting experience for me because it has shown me how incredibly immature and nasty some people can be when they hide behind the anonymity of the internet.

The man was elected–and by a very large margin. He did so in the face of nastiness and ugly rumors. I started as a McCain supporter and, after he picked Sarah Palin as his VP candidate, could not continue to support him. I am saddened by the way someone I believed was honorable turned out to be willing to throw integrity out the window for the sake of political expediency.

But Barack Obama won. He's the president. And posting juvenile and nasty emails won't change that. Actually, if you need to resort to that sort of thing to make yourself feel better, there's something quite sad about you.

Sally in Oregon   January 4th, 2009 7:46 pm ET

I am really confused, Obama say some of these people have been friends of his since grade school. I thought he grew up in Hawaii with his Grandparents, then move to Thailand? He said his theme was change, did that mean he is gong to keep changing his facts about his past. He is already changing things that he promised. Now our military is not coming home, they are just moving the to Afganistan. What next

Mindy   January 4th, 2009 7:41 pm ET

Lee, c'mon, President Elect Obama will do a good job.

Choked Up   January 4th, 2009 7:41 pm ET

What he's "choking up" on is the smog of corruption which he gleefully swam in for a decade in Illinois politics.

Our time has finally come!
God speed to you, Mr. President-Elect!
Many of us will continue to pray for you, your family, VP-elect Biden, and his family.
We know that you were appointed by the most High, for such a time as this. Our days ahead will be difficult, but at least we have a competent, thoughtful, true American leader in the White House.

I will see you in D. C., ticket or no ticket!!!

Sixteen more days and the Bush mess becomes yours. I do not envy you not one bit.

Jan Illinois   January 4th, 2009 7:40 pm ET

Good Luck Mr. President, I feel sorry for him, he can't possibly know what is ahead of him, he sure knows what has been inherited and it will not be easy. Makes you wonder if he regrets this whole thing. I hope not.

Greta   January 4th, 2009 7:38 pm ET

I choked up as well. To see him get off an official "presidential" plane with the seal was Nov 4 all over again.

Lori   January 4th, 2009 7:37 pm ET

Barack hurry up and take office. Show the Republicans how to run this country. Advice to our next President: Don't be distracted by silly scandals that have NOTHING to do with you. Remember Bush and Cheney got away with atrocities that caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands here and abroad so don't be distracted by Republican tactics to divert attention away from progress.

Hurry up and get to Washington. We need you.

Sue   January 4th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

I am praying for wise leadership, a cooperative Congress, and patience from Americans as we head into the Obama Presidency. He cannot undo all the wrongs of the past 8 years overnight, nor in four years. But he has already brought hope and inclusion to this country, and as a Constitutional scholar, I know the rule of law will be followed once more. No more torture, wiretapping of innocent people, Gitmo and its horrors, and a reliance on "might" over intelligence when dealing with other countries. Finally, a man who understands that you must respect other leaders, even if they are at odds with us. We are not God on Earth. We are just people, as are Hamas, Iranians, Israelis, and Iraqis. People who deserve to live in peace.

Richie   January 4th, 2009 7:36 pm ET
