Blagojevich sets special election dates for Emanuel seat

Gov. Blagojevich names dates to hold a special election to fill former Rep. Rahm Emanuel's congressional seat.

Gov. Blagojevich names dates to hold a special election to fill former Rep. Rahm Emanuel's congressional seat.

(CNN) - Gov. Rod Blagojevich set a spring date Monday for a special election to fill the congressional seat formerly held by Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

Blagojevich said primary voters in the state's 5th Congressional District will head to the polls March 3, and make their final pick April 7. The dates are based on recommendations by local elections officials.

Emanuel's resignation of the congressional seat formerly held by Blagojevich himself was effective Friday, January 2.

So why couldn't he have done this to fill Obama's seat? He could have done both elections at once. Now do you see why we, the citizens of Illinois, want him impeached. He doesn't know how to govern.

This guy is still working? What is going on. He's just like business as usual. He probably never worked this hard since he's been in office. Is this the same guy that was arrested? lol....3 ring circus

So, OK, an election for Emanuel's old seat, but an appt for Obama's old seat? How hard would it have been to simply hold a special election for Obama's seat the same day. This governor is a joke. It is sad to see politics and race being so blatantly used like this to take the spotlight off his criminal charges and place the spotlight other places. It is also sad to see such a distinguished man like Burris sell his soul to simply get an appt to a senate seat that he could have never won on his own merits.

Blago, why don't you recruit Roland Burris to run for Emanuel's seat?

Why isn't this as controversial as the Burris story? If they are going to block the Burris pick, anything that the governor does pertaining to the appointments of vacant seats should not be acknowledged. Although he is legally still the governor, there needs to be a law in place to prevent this sort of action.

Will this special election be valid? If so, why not the Burris appointment? Can't have it both ways.

I just think that Blagojevich should do just one thing: STOP MAKING DECISIONS!!!! He's already ruined himself by this scandal and a senate appointment. Now this?!?!?!? I think this guy should just shut up, and not make anymore major appointments.

Here we go again, time to take Blago to court on corruption charges and put these situations behind us. With taped evidence in hand, why isn't he down the road by now? Obama should give him one more chance to step down or the hammer is coming down!!! MAKES ME WONDER

Oh yes obama-mama. This is the same guy that was arrested and is currently out on bail. Same guy who will be indicted for corruption and trying to sell the Senate seat. The same guy recorded on tape with incriminating evidence who is now going through the motions, leaving a trail of slime where ever he slithers.

At least with an election for the district, there is little chance that Blagojevich can get this tainted. I hope that the Lt gov will get the office soon so that this chaos can end.

The people cannot accept this special election since the Governor set it. He might taint this election. Its called payback. You dont want his chosice for Senator so you can not accept this date for special eleciton.

I am a strong Democrat and can't wait till this loser is history. Now I know how the Republicans feel about Bush. Except that I am not from Ill and never voted for him.

I'm confused – why does he have a special election for one position, but then goes and appoints another?

Couldn't both have been by special election? Wouldn't that have saved all this trouble about Burris?

So is Harry Reid going to protest the Special Election as well?

After all it was Gov. Blogo who set the date for the special election.

Enough of the theater and political drama and grand standing by Harry Reid.

Democrats are tired of this......Let the law take care of Gov. Blogo
