Blagojevich sets special election dates for Emanuel seat

Gov. Blagojevich names dates to hold a special election to fill former Rep. Rahm Emanuel's congressional seat.

Gov. Blagojevich names dates to hold a special election to fill former Rep. Rahm Emanuel's congressional seat.

(CNN) - Gov. Rod Blagojevich set a spring date Monday for a special election to fill the congressional seat formerly held by Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

Blagojevich said primary voters in the state's 5th Congressional District will head to the polls March 3, and make their final pick April 7. The dates are based on recommendations by local elections officials.

Emanuel's resignation of the congressional seat formerly held by Blagojevich himself was effective Friday, January 2.

Now, if Blago's dirty, but they stopped him before they got the proof, it'll be just like he was never dirty at all.

    That would be funny.

Of course, it's still just possible that Blago might not be dirty jst because Fitzgerald said he is. We shouldn't forget that US Attorney is a political office, and the Bush administration has been known to abuse the Justice department for political gain.

Found the circus, where's the bread?

I find it amazing that people who do not even know the facts of the situation have tried and convicted Blago!~

FACTS-He is innocent until proven guilty, you see charges are NOT enough to make someone guilty, an investigation is not enough to make someone guilty, the courts actually have to do their part in this country we have a rule of law not a rule of accusation and charges.

The Illinois Constitution (I know most of the radical right ignore any Constitution (unless it helps their point of view) or gives them cover to further subvert it but I expected better from the loony left.. guess I was mistaken) states the Governor will appoint, in any manner deemed correct BY THE GOVERNOR a replacement for any Senator who cannot fulfill their time in office. So he could, legally, put the seat up for auction on E-bay and give it to the highest bidder, but since public opinion has tried and convicted this man (long before the courts have their say) I guess he should stop doing the job he is getting paid to do by ythe people right?

    idiots

It's getting real old all this talk about Blagovich. Look if the guys is so guilty and they have him on tape for doing something illegal why haven't they endited him yet?

I'm beginning to think think there may be something to this story about being innocent.

If we can have a special election for Rahm's seat, why can't we have a special election for Obama's seat?

If we are going to the expense of a special election, why couldn't they have allowed the citizens of Illinois to vote for Obama's senate replacement at the same time.

Blago is making a mockery out of the governor's office. I thought Sarah Palin was bad, but this guy is abusing his power.

I do not like his hair and I do not like his fraud.

Blahhhh, I don't care to spell his name nor do I care to attempt at pronouncing it.

I hope the powers of justice remove him from office.

Can't someone in power at least gag the guy? Get an injunction against letting him do anything? Arrest him? Impeach him? What's the problem here? He's a criminal – caught on tape, btw Mr E – and a lunatic. Get him out of there. At best he's an embarrassment, at worst a danger to the office.

If he has the legal authority to set this election, can the Democratic Congressional leadership explain why he does _not_ have similar power to appoint Burriss?

  14. Wondering Why

I wonder why he can't just hold a special election for the Senate Seat at the same time. If they are doing an election anyway, they can be done together, and you will get more voters out in Emanual's district if there are 2 positions to vote for. I guess it seems to obvious, huh.

What is wrong with this guy? Doesn't the way he's behaving look nuts to anyone? He's a narcissist and a criminal – caught on tape btw Mr E – and not innocent. He needs to be removed, and quickly.

Why can't they hold a special election to pick someone to fill the senate seat vacated by Obama too?

Why can't they elect someone to fill Obama's senate seat while they're at it? It would be a lot cleaner than the "appointment" debacle now unfolding.
