WASHINGTON (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama doesn't begin his term for another two weeks, but daughters Sasha and Malia began theirs on Monday.
According to the president-elect's transition office, Michelle Obama accompanied the two daughters to the Sidwell Friends School Monday morning - along with an expansive motorcade of U.S. Secret Service agents.
Sasha, 7, is in second grade and attending the elementary school campus in Bethesda, Maryland while Malia, 10, is in fifth grade and attending the Sidwell Friends middle school campus in Washington, DC.

Mr. Rohde, it's Americans like you who make me proud to be a "leftie." And proud of my "leftie" daughters, who think people who call people names like "demented" because they have different opinions are icky. It's interesting that you use "honest diagreement (sic)" and "demented" in the same sentence. I personally would love to leave the Palins alone, if they would only do the same for me!
leave these children alone. they are nice and seemingly well behaved. let them be children and allowed to discover the beauty and joy of the universe. life in a fish bowl will be difficult enough without a constant telephoto lens on them. let them fall down, cry, laugh, and play with a puppy without some jerk commenting on it.
Thanks for a lil fun news in the midst of the everyday trials...I pray they are welcomed with open arms in there new environments.
They will do just fine.
Have a good day ladies. You two are just as special as your mother and father. Good luck.
May the Lord almighty continue to guide and protect President elect Obama, Mrs Michelle Obama, Malia, Sasha and their family.
I also pray for Vice President elect Joe Biden and his entire family. God bless them all including the staff in President elect Barack Obama's administration.
God give wisdom to President elect Obama and his administration to be able to govern this country well and the world.
Bless USA.
The media should focus less on these children. Don't make a big fuss of every move they make.
Let the kids alone!!!!!!!! This isnt really a needed press release! My girls go to schoool every day and I dont release a statement about it on their first day!
Leigh -– you are a very sick person, and I feel sorry for you. The girls are not the kids of just anybody, they are the children of the new President of the United States....and for your information, IT IS NEWS! Following along your train of thought, how was the news of our current idiots daughers marriage of National Interest? It was just another wedding, right? WRONG! Why dont you focus on whats important in peoples lives and stop spitting your venom in places where it dont belong.
Who now is exploting his kids.
With everything else going on in the world, this is certainly not news worthy!
That being said, good luck to the both of them in their new schools.
FYI...Whenever the new president elect has children that are school age, they always get recognition. Stop hating and wish them well in their new endevors.
I don't understand why some of these comments are so...well, rude. This is the new First Family, and of course there is interest in all aspects of a new incoming administration. President-Elect Obama's daughters are adorable and many people can relate to their own children and first days of school. Besides, if it's a slow enough news day for this to make news, count our blessings to hear something positive.
Who cares? This article isn't worth the space it's printed on.
Please, as much as I love the fact that Barack Obama will be our next President, leave the children alone.
Regarding the negative comments about our new president-elect: It's amazing just how hateful people in the this country are. As a high school graduate in "60's", MLK, JFK, RFK sadly come to mind. It's not necessary for me to elaborate any further. People get ready, a new president is coming. If you care anything at all about our country, you'll support President-elect Obama and stop being total jerks and work to make this country a better place. Most importantly, let's pray that by next year this time this country will be in a better place.
I wish the girls all the best.
These kids are already smarter than politicians living in Alabama and Tenn.
It's always newsworthy when a Messiah's children attend school. Keep up the good work.
Richard rohde As much as I am uncomfortable with PEBO, I certainly would not even dream of attacking his family or saying anything derogatory about them. Maybe the lefties could leave Palin's family alone, but then again that will never happen. It's the difference between honest diagreement and pathological hatred and the the lefties are demented.
--
You proved that the righties have a "pathological hatred" for the left. So I guess the righties are demented. Thank you.
Finally, competence will be brought back to the White House, after 8 MISERABLE years of incompetence and arrogance!
What a great leader!!
TO: richard rohde...
way to take the high road without actually having to take the high road...
For those of you condemning a expensive motorcade.. those secret service people are to keep these kids safe. Being Black i am sure they will have more threats than any other president family in the whitehouse. What would you say if something happened?? OH why didnt they have secret service?? Some people just cannot make up their minds.. dont criticize things that if you think of the opposite you wont be contradicting yourselves. plus eyes will be on these girls for the fact that there hasnt been such young children in the white house ina long long time. How they adapt and do is stuff some people like to see.
WOW Exciting news story.... NOT. Who cares, Michelle got to DC before obama BIG WHOOP, Obama joined them days later WOW lets party over that one. Do we absolutly need a minute by minute coverage on them? I dont
