WASHINGTON (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama doesn't begin his term for another two weeks, but daughters Sasha and Malia began theirs on Monday.
According to the president-elect's transition office, Michelle Obama accompanied the two daughters to the Sidwell Friends School Monday morning - along with an expansive motorcade of U.S. Secret Service agents.
Sasha, 7, is in second grade and attending the elementary school campus in Bethesda, Maryland while Malia, 10, is in fifth grade and attending the Sidwell Friends middle school campus in Washington, DC.

THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW ! SUCH USEFUL INFO CNN
If you do not care for a news – DO NOT READ IT .... that's why they are links, you click on them if you want and leave it alone if you don't. Thanks for the info CNN.
Hopefully this will be an example to the other black kids that don't go to school. By the way how is this news.
i bat you if i were threr to see them they would be terrible i mean just take a good look at this picture does t look real they ant foolin me maybe nobody else they r people just like us there family ant perfect so they need to stop and live an regural live
Some people obviously do care - CNN is not set up for YOUR personal preferences........if you dont care to know, dont read the article..
Base, a lot of people care. The "snarky" remarks here and elsewhere are just more "sour grapes" from those who voted for the losers in November. Keep it up guys! There are 19 GOP Senate seats up for grabs in 2010 and all the Democrats may need are 3 at most.
Get over it. Obama's the President and most people around the world are itnerested in just what they are doing.
My thoughts exactly Richard Rohde.... Obama wasn't my choice this past fall, but I do wish him and his entire family well as they transition into their new roles in life.
By the way, liberals will never stop hating Sarah Palin. Why? Since Bush and Co. are leaving in a few weeks, liberals now need a new face for all their seething and hatred, and that face is Gov. Palin.
Leigh...loosen up!
What happened to "leave the kids alone"?
Oh, and Richard R, as far as "lefties leaving Palin alone" never happening, look how many people persist in their irrational hatred of the Clintons, and can't miss a chance to say something nasty about them? It cuts both ways.
I would much rather read about these little future leaders going off to their first day of school than about Angelina Jolie's next adoption pick, or Madonna's new boyfriend, or if Jessica Simpson has a real rack.
Going off to Friends may not be a headliner, but it is still news-and great news too. All teh best to the Obama girls on their first day. It is nice to see small children in the White house again.
@richard rohde
I am uncomfortable with YOUR inane posts.
And the news here is..............................
Please don't turn the office of the President of the United States into tabloid material.
The leaders around the world will not understand this constant attention on the Obama family and why so many Americans feel it's important to know every detail of their lives.
Obama is a first for the US.........but lets keep the respect the office of President should have around the world and not put them in the same catagory as Parris Hilton and Madonna!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It will be a difficult move for the girls. I relocated when I was 11 – new state and new school. It was horrible – missed my friends and familar surroundings. I wish the girls the very best in this 'their own transition.'
Have a great first day at school, girls! I know it's hard starting a new school, and especially mid-term, but I hope they'll have a great day and settle in quickly to their new surroundings.
This is nice news to hear about. We have too much doom and gloom every day, all day. While this may not be major for some of the sour critics that have commented already, it is a major step for these little girls. I am sure that if these little girls had white faces, there wouldn't be as many sour comments.
Did I just play the race card? Yes, I sure did!!
Children going to school has not ever been, nor will it ever be news!
I am one citizen who has lived long enough to regret "freedom of the press."
To Nebraskan.....it was "worthy "of all the other presidents, why not for this one?
Should not have gone to Sidwell Friends. SSSAS is more appropriate and much better. Just ask Tipper Gore!
Ok – fine. Now can the "news organizations" lay off of the girls and let them lead somewhat normal lives and actually give us coverage of something newsworthy please?
These young ladies deserve a little privacy and and the news folks don't need to be the first one to scoop all of the others on what they wore to school today or how they had their hair fixed. Give them an opportunity to grow up on their own.
I think that most of us would rather see some reporting on the issues of the day.
Sonya–you are just ignorant. Obama stands for the pledge and recites it. Please check the facts rather than relying on internet rumors before you make those sort of nasty insinuations.
I can truly see why Michelle and Barack are very close and strong with their love for each other. The more other hates you the stronger your love will become. Believe me; I know what I'm saying. Keep your faith strong in Christ and everything will be alright.
May the Lord continue to protect you and your family Mr. President-elect.
I – and many people from the Netherlands- wish both Sasha and Malia all the best and a happy schooltime the coming years.
God bless you and your parents, and be nice to your father and mother... and have lots of fun!
People get a grip and start praying for our new President. While we're bickering amongst ourselves, enemies abroad are seeking our demise.
My son starts back to school tomorrow. Will CNN be at our house in the morning?
