WASHINGTON (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama doesn't begin his term for another two weeks, but daughters Sasha and Malia began theirs on Monday.

According to the president-elect's transition office, Michelle Obama accompanied the two daughters to the Sidwell Friends School Monday morning - along with an expansive motorcade of U.S. Secret Service agents.

Sasha, 7, is in second grade and attending the elementary school campus in Bethesda, Maryland while Malia, 10, is in fifth grade and attending the Sidwell Friends middle school campus in Washington, DC.

For those that are still filled with hatred for the Obamas. get over it already you will get used to it at least in the next 4 to 8 yrs. Bush's daughter got wedded and it made the news ...did you guys complain?
Bristol Palin had a baby and it made the news(250k that she collected for the baby pics didnt make the news) did u complain. This shows how divided this country is and the people who are still in the pre-election mindset. The Obamas are here to stay!

This is not news. Stop acting like paparazzi and go find some real news. No matter the identity of their father – they are children and deserve some privacy.

Of course this is news! It's funny how right-wingers don't think this is news because it's a Dem family.

Good luck to them. Being in the spotlight, especially this young has got to be tough!!!

  6. Oh! The Irony

Gotta love the Obama haters. At times I feel so sorry for you and the bitterness you have within you. For those that are begging for "real news" stories, you should check the "news" section. This is a Political Ticker and obviously entries are wideranging within the political field.

Have a great day girls, and good luck on your first day at a new school. Now PE, you have work to do, sell that economic stimulus package to those out of touch Republicans.

I could care less. These are two children that are going to private schools and have all the finest things in life, they will be fine. Our world is coming apart at the seams. I know that there is only one president at a time, but i would like to know Obamas' position on the Gaza strip, He so handily talks a lot of crap on unimportant issues that only one president can do. So what say you Barack Hussien Obama

Of course it's news. Maybe not political ticker news, but news.

Nice choice of schools (my daughter graduated from a Quaker college, so I'm biased). It's another declaration of the Obama's core values.

To: This is NOT CHANGE, Baze and the like:

This IS News because these children are of our soon to be new President. They are important whether you like it or not. You seem to have some difficulties getting over the fact that Obama won the election... Grow up and enjoy the fact that he IS our soon to be President!

Leigh – This is news worthy because they are Barack's children.
Had it been something negative, I bet you would find it news worthy.

If you don't think this is news do what the conservatives would do. Read something else. Oh I forgot, there are no more conservatives, only slaves to the GOP.

Agrees with Ms B. This is way too much info to give out to the crazie’s out there who have not yet gotten use to the idea of the big 'CHANGE'.

Very influential parents these girls have! The Obamas are truly "the American way!" This is news just like it is reported when children all over the country return to school, especially since the country is watching the Obama family! May God be with the entire Obama family!

It doesn't set a good precedent for expecting the media to respect your children's privacy when you invite photographers into your hotel suite to document their first day at school. What is he thinking? This is just as bad as when he impulsively allowed them to be interviewed on Access Hollywood back in July. Bad judgment all around!
