WASHINGTON (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama doesn't begin his term for another two weeks, but daughters Sasha and Malia began theirs on Monday.
According to the president-elect's transition office, Michelle Obama accompanied the two daughters to the Sidwell Friends School Monday morning - along with an expansive motorcade of U.S. Secret Service agents.
Sasha, 7, is in second grade and attending the elementary school campus in Bethesda, Maryland while Malia, 10, is in fifth grade and attending the Sidwell Friends middle school campus in Washington, DC.

Who Cares?
I hope they meet friends for life and enjoy themselves.
God Bless our so-to-be President of these United States of America.
Nice family. And honest to.
Thats great that you have chosen a school best fit for your daughters however i think that all the information should not have been let out, its a lot of weido’s and psycho’s out here. Some one tried to get you, it may probably cause some problems for them, even though it might synch out anyway of their attendance of the school. Best wishes for Malia & Sasha and the entire Obama family.
I wish them all well....and hope the girls will find good friends in the DC area....too bad they can't be on the same campus.......
GOOD LUCK TO THE WHOLE FAMILY as they begin this new and very stressful new year!
Leigh,
This is news just like when Chelsea Clinton went to school.
I feel sorry for these girls, for they will forever be in the spotlight.
Cool? Obviously they go to school, just like almost every other child in America. How is this news?
to richard rohde:
The Obama's do not have:
1. A son who had a choice of military service or jail for delinquent behavior
2. A teenage pregnancy that barely missed the statutory rape limits
3. A possible in-law under arrest for drug traffiking
So, please, let's not make any comparisons between the beautiful daughters of PE Obama and the Palin soap opera.
We'd all best work together to ensure the success of PE Obama and the new administration. God bless them all, including these lovely little girls.
Thank you for giving this as much attention as you did the Bush girls pick for college and their drunken binges. It's nice to have refreshing news like this thrown in amongst the ravages of the Gaza bombs and the back peddling for Bush's legacy!
One would think that at this point, every thing that happens in the most historical presidential transition in the history of this country is news worthy.
Richard Rohde – YOU'RE RIGHT ON WITH YOUR POST.
Come on Guys! This is not the news I turn to you for.
There is no way that he would have been able to keep his children’s school top secret people. But believe me when I say that they will be surrounded by secret service. The school will be on lock down as I’m sure it already is. The average person (you and me) can’t just walk up in the school and go peek at them during the day. Those beautiful children will be well protected....
God bless the Obama family!
The people care, that is who cares
I suspect news editors rightly predicted there would be people who are interested and that is why they carried the story. I think they're right. Those of us who are not interested should simply not read it!
cooooooooooooo00000000lllll
They are two sweet girls, and being brought up well. They will do just fine.
My prayers are with all of the Obama family.
Thanks CNN for sharing this info. I adore the Obama girls and
their parents!
My observation is directed to "Leigh's" post.
This is part of our history as a nation. I certainly didn't expect a Secret Service motorcade when my daughters started a new school, then again my husband was not the President-elect.
CNN does a fine job of bringing us the NEWS, Leigh, and such is the case with these darling girls embarking upon their new academic careers.
Lighten up Leigh.
I agree this is not political news, but we finally have children in the White House, and that IS news. I am sure alot of citizens are VERY interested in the first kids, and wonder the same thing as I do..WHERE is the first dog???
I hope they will be comfortable in their new school and make new friends. The press has always covered all the past Presidents children in this manner. Why does the new first family be any different?
Now let them be children and grow up with wonderful memories of living in the White House.
They are precious and starting an incredible new chapter in their lives. As are the rest of us! Hurry up and become President already!
The Obama children have school choice. Regular people do not. Once again, an example of the Left's dumbing down of America.
Come on really, what is the deal. Every child goes to school. maybe the school should roll out the red carpet too.No wonder these girls can't live a normal life !! Why not do a story on the children who have nothing to eat before going to school or who don;t have a warm coat to wear to school of what about parents who could care less if their child even gets to school..
The media gives out to much information. Everyone just need to keep this family in their prayers during this transitional period. May God Bless this Nation.
Who cares?
Apparently, all of you bitter, dysfunctional nuts, who posting negative comments.
It is news. News that finally the White House will have a family living there, worthy of it.
