The Obama transition team has released photos of the Obama girls preparing for school Monday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama doesn't begin his term for another two weeks, but daughters Sasha and Malia began theirs on Monday.

According to the president-elect's transition office, Michelle Obama accompanied the two daughters to the Sidwell Friends School Monday morning - along with an expansive motorcade of U.S. Secret Service agents.

Sasha, 7, is in second grade and attending the elementary school campus in Bethesda, Maryland while Malia, 10, is in fifth grade and attending the Sidwell Friends middle school campus in Washington, DC.

After Palin insulted most of us living in "Real America" perhaps we should forget her and her brood. Perhaps after her illegitimate grandchild was born, her family could demand privacy instead of telling us how "hard" parenting is for a pair of 18 year olds.

Excuse me, Mr. Rohde, are you talking about "your" pathological hatred? You're the one spewing it.

Wow! Some of these comments are from some very short-sighted, mean-spirited fools! Of course, this is news. These young girls, daughters of the first African-American president, have been effected by this election as well. Anyone in education knows this can be traumatic, especially with each girl attending school on a different campus. But for people like Leigh, it is not the same as your children attending school or mine. Ask Chelsea Clinton! Remember the Obamas are loving parents who knew how important it was for their daughters to start school even before the inauguration. So they opted to live in a hotel before Blair House and the White House. This first family is one we can all be proud of and we educators can use as a model for others.

I am SICK AND TIRED of all the hatred/racism that's being displayed on these blogs, this country is heading towards a major change and people need to just accept that it's time... let's accept the fact that we have a new President in the White House who just happens to be African American, it's time for change. Obama and his family deserves a chance just as all the former Presidents did, let's give him a chance...he deserves it.
If you don't think it's time for change, just look at where we are now compared to where we were eight years ago, let's move forward people. Stop the hatred/racism we are one country.

Obama should send them to the Crumbling Public schools in DC since the NEA and others teachers unions bought and paid for his election. Hey Obama practice what you preach

When is the news going to stop exploiting the Obama daughters' every move? I thought they were supposed to be having as normal a childhood as possible.

This is great news. This is still history. These are not just regular children going to school. The same way we were bonbarded with the info on the Bush twins her in TX, we would like news about Sasha and Malia. They are American's kids now, like it or not. Can you imagine feeling like you are on top of the world with all those secret service people looking out for you. They are really in fantasy land. Let them enjoy it a little and stop being so critical. They are children liking the high life now. All the hoopla will die down in a bit and you can go back to reading books on hangs and lynching. Baze and Leigh

What folks on the "right" miss in this coverage, beyond the voyeurism, is Obama and his family represent an enormous of example for young black people, especially males, who don't have an immediate male role model. I say cover everything he does with his family in his capacity as a father. I'm a black man with a wife and young son. My son's getting the living, breathing example of manhood that I and many other black people missed for a good portion of our lives. Obama is the public face of my and other men's campaigns to be fathers to our children and positive role models in our community. Obviously, the rights can't fathom such a concept. Rock on and be strong, brother. We're with you.

Leigh, the difference is that all other kids going to school are NOT the children of the president-elect. It's been a while since children were in the White House – that's the news angle.

You must be a Republican. Chill out.

I wonder if these two girls will stand & recite the pledge of allegiance this morning or will they do as their father does? I know my son will say the pledege to our nation this morning as he does every morning, that's newsworthy.

who cares, let them be kids and stop all the bally who about them. Give them there space. Geez why not cover all kids first day at a new school, big deal. this is all you have of importance to report on. This is not news, it is a day in a life of kids attending a new school. Leave them a lone, they cant help there dad is going to be president and not around them much. He will be very busy with many many problems why not cover those major problems.
